Made our third trip to Riverhouse Grill in Glen Rose the other day and it was just as good as the last two times! It was the Friday of Spring Break and they were busy. However, we were seated right away on the patio and received our food promptly. Our waitress, (I believe her name was Emma), was the sweetest person and did an amazing job! The food was delicious! We had a good experience here after leaving another restaurant. We walkedin at opening for dinner and were seated right away. Our server was attentive, and we were served right away. The food was good, and they were nice about removing a sauce because of a dietary need. The place was nicely decorated for Christmas. Last time we ate there the food was definitely not the usual. It has been awhile since we were there last. All at the table ordered the bolognese. One was more like the old version. Two were like they were made with Ragu sauce. Perhaps they ran out and had to remake the sauce, but I would have much rather reordered. I will not order the dish again. Our waiter was did not offer us a drink menu, did not return with items we asked for, barely a checked on us. We sat outside, but there were tables inside open. Just a let down after it being one of my favorites in Glen Rose. I hope it was just a bad day. read more

The River House Grill is actually really charming, it's in an older home a very nice two story. The atmosphere is really cute & makes you feel right at home. Just nothing special, had Thanksgiving lunch here, it was $75 for cold completely unseasoned mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes- totally plain, green beans, turkey and some dressing, and a slice of bland pie. I just don't understand why it was $75 for that meal. For sure try somewhere else. The people were very great so I bumped up to 2 stars. read more

I was excited to stop here, but had a horrible experience. it was a very busy place so we chose to sit outside the inside felt to crammed with people. Found that since it was sunday we had to order from the brunch menu which leaves little choices. Our server was friendly but drinks didn't arrive for 30 minutes, she didn't charge for them. all the food was okay but nothing terrific. Comfortable dining in a beautifully converted old house. When I arrived for lunch, the wait staff, just two people as far as I could tell, were very busy but handled it well, greeting me and telling me they would be with me soon. I ordered the Cowboy Burger, which was very good, with good fries alongside. The brioche-type bun is not my favorite, but this one was fresh and tasty, and the burger was perfectly cooked. But the guy at the table next to me order fried catfish, and when they brought out his plate, I had a serious case of entree regret! It looked fabulous. Will I drive three hours back to Glen Rose to get that catfish...? Hmmm. read more

I met a friend for an early lunch today at River House Grill. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the owner she was very nice and attentive. The ambience in this place is so warm and inviting perfect for a great lunch with a friend. We then met her husband, who is the chef there and he went over the specials which sounded wonderful, but we both ended up getting salad which was very good. I look forward to coming back for dinner with my husband and daughter. Hopefully soon !! This restaurant is a very sweet place inGlen Rose. Please try it if you get a chance. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. They gave my food to the wrong door dasher (maybe NEXT TIME you should ask the door dash who the order is for!!!) and then REFUSED to remake my food because they would lose $60. That is NOT my fault. It was not until I became upset that they decided to rectify their mistake! Learn to do your job better!!! Then you have the nerve to call me and leave a voicemail saying it's not your fault? We are from out of town and went for their Mother's Day brunch. We didn't realize that it was a set menu you had to choose from. The menu came and it was $50 per person. Well we thought that's okay, it is Mother's Day. We started drinks, she asked if we wanted bread with our drinks, we said no. Mistakenly thought she would bring them when she served our salad. We started with spring salad which we waited for, for over 35 minutes. It was spring lettuce sprinkled with nuts cranberries and feta cheese. It was served on a hot plate and looked like someone across the room threw it on the plate. Never was asked if we wanted bread when they brought our salad. Next course we had steak and eggs, and French toast with bacon. We have been here for over an hour. During the time we were waiting, they brought dessert over tree different times, we let them know each time we were waiting for our entrees. Everyone around had been served and were eating dessert even though we arrived before them. Entrees arrived, steak was tough, potatoes were warm but looked like they were barely cooked. French toast was good but not $50 good. Final course was dessert. Peach cobbler was on the menu but was substituted with apple cobbler. I ordered bread pudding with cranberries and white chocolate, I asked for mine to go . They brought dessert, well guess what, it wasn't ours! A second time they brought out dessert, this time, both on plates. Third time was a charm, we finally got our desserts. By this time we had been here over 2 hours. We asked for our bill and they took it and ran our card. They added 20% gratuity automatically, 3% credit card fee. My husband's comment was I wanted to treat you to a special Mother's Day, but this food was certainly not special. I not sure if this is typical for this restaurant or not but they certainly need to step up their game if they continue to do a Mother's Day brunch. read more

Steak was undercooked severely. Chicken was good. Staff was nice, and offered to take back, but my husband switched plates with me.

First time at the Riverhouse, generally very disappointed. The waitress came our table, asked us what we wanted without even bringing us a menu. She did not bring water or silverware until we asked. The lemon wedges I asked for to go in my iced tea had already been squeezed and were limp. We ordered chips and salsa for an appetizer, and the "salsa" turned out to be completely bland tomato sauce. On a positive note, we did enjoy the ambience of the old house and the classical music playing softly in the background. Considering what we spent, we do not plan to return. read more

We stopped here for lunch on a Sunday after visiting Fossil Rim. As noted by others, the restaurant is located in an old house which is charming but also means that seating is limited (about 10-12 tables) and there is one small unisex bathroom so there is often a wait. The servers were really busy and working hard when we were there. Not sure if they were shorthanded or what but one person was in charge of reservations, seating, and waiting tables. I saw only one other waitress but maybe I missed something. Anyway, the food and drink: The wife's Bloody Mary was spicy and very flavorful. Really good quality (Absolute vodka). Those could be addictive! No beers on tap for me, only bottles, so I had a Pilsner Urquell. My turkey panini was not huge but it packed a lot of flavor. I really enjoyed it. The wife's chicken salad sandwich was good but she did not care for the white bread. Both our fries were crispy and well salted. We ordered sweet potato fries the little one and she a lot of them which is unusual for her. Overall, it was very pleasant meal and we were pleased. I would return again when I am Glen Rose. read more

So much potential. Cozy place right off of the square. Had a lot of good menu options, me and my husband ordered the VooDoo pasta, salad and shrimp cocktail. The pasta was extremely bland, it was definitely missing the Cajun flavor and whatever other seasoning. I subbed chicken and it was very overcooked. The waiter brought us more sauce but it didn't help. I had maybe 4 bites and left the rest of my dish on the table. My husband felt the same but ate about half his dish because he was hungry and powered through it. The server apparently let the kitchen know the sauce was bland and told us to visit again and we'd have a better experience. What about making this experience better? Our tab was $88 for underwhelming food. There are better options in the area with better flavors and better bang for your buck. Quite frankly, dominos pasta for $6.99 has more flavor than the dish I had tonight--what a bummer. read more

Normally long and arduous on the Interstate, the backroads offer a peaceful and picturesque drive. While on the backroads, particularly highway 67, make sure you stop in a little town called Glen Rose and grab a bite to eat at the Riverhouse Grill. Located in an old historic home, Riverhouse Grill is open for both lunch and dinner. There is also outside seating on the large covered front porch. Riverhouse Grill has a full bar and variety of beer and wine. After settling on a mojito it was time to peruse the menu. Since it was lunch time the menu mainly consisted of fresh salads, sandwiches, burgers, and homemade soups. A panini sounded good and our waitress told us her favorite was the turkey panini with bacon and homemade pesto mayonnaise. Say no more. The panini was flavorful, thick, and delicious. Equally as good were the parmesan asiago fries with a garlic dipping sauce that accompanied the sandwich. They had a menu of delicious desserts but we declined although the bourbon bread pudding came highly recommended from the couple at the next table. Riverhouse Grill is definitely worth the stop. We enjoyed the food, charming atmosphere, and friendly service. There was nothing I could find that needed improvement so therefore it merits 5 stars from me. read more

The perfect wedding reception dinner! Covid craziness completely blew up our wedding plans and resulted in us having a home-town ceremony at our house with just our parents and children. But we still wanted our wedding day to be special. I knew we could count on Riverhouse Grill for delicious dinner with spectacular service and they came through! Kelli reached out to me ahead of time to offer her services to make sure everything went as planned. We were able to bring our cake in earlier in the day so that they could keep it refrigerated for us. We brought centerpieces in early as well and Kelli assured us they would make it special. Boy did they! The tables were set beautifully, the food was perfection, and every service was phenomenal. We were in town in Glen Rose and wanted to check out a local restaurant. Saw all the good reviews and wanted to give Riverhouse a try! Service was so quick and all waiter staff were really friendly! We ordered an appetizer of the Parmesan truffle fries, and the sauce that came with it was amazing. I got the chicken Marsala and it came with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. It was hot and fresh, and the sauce in the chicken was awesome. The rolls they also served were delicious too. If you're in town, I highly recommend checking this place out! They seem to get busy very quickly though, so make a reservation or get there as soon as they open. read more

After hiking all afternoon at the Dinosaur Valley State Park, I earned myself a nice meal and I found a great place to have one. Just a couple blocks off the town square in Glenn Rose, this restaurant is situated in an old restored house. The ambience, the food, and the service were great, even though I wandered in about 40 minutes before closing. It was a pretty straight forward meal (salad, bread, fillet, mashed potatoes, and vegetables) but they were well done and tasty. Only downside for me was the limited beer selection (not even any local craft beers) but perhaps that is the result of this being a dry county and their options consequently are not great. But that's a minor consideration in the grand scheme of things when the meal is that good. I'll be back to this place next time I am in town, and you should find your way here, especially after working up an appetite by hiking. One recommendation to my server, Nick: if you pour a beer with a huge head on it, you probably you should ditch it and have someone pour you another one. read more
