Hi everyone, I loved The Purple Turnip! It's is a small "Mom and Pop" place in Cleburne that has been around forever! They have great food! We had both the Angel hair pasta with meatballs and the Burger. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the meatballs well seasoned. It came with a very tasty roll. The hamburger was thick and very tasty. Nice bacon and great trimmings. The service was excellent and we were made to feel right at home! They are only open for lunch. 11-2 I think. A great restaurant you should stop for a specialty sandwich I tried the chicken fried steak sandwich tasted great I like the barbeque dressing and tomato lettuce on a bun complemented by my choice of cezar salad. It's what ilike to see amoung small sized restaurants beautiful wall art and friendly staff makes me feel comfortable. I got a tea to take with me. I want to go back to try the salmon sandwich made from a salmon cake they make at the restaurant. read more

Food was just ok, not bad but not great. Ceader salad was good. the breaded chicken sandwich is just a pre formed patty tricked up w some cheese It did have a tasty sauce on it. Service was good. Ambiance is homey but this place looked a bit unkempt floors looked dirty etc. we wanted to support and try a local restaurant not a chain. We were disappointed, probably won't go back . read more

This is a laid back restaurant located in Cleburne Tx. Several items on their menu were great for me being on a diet ( tilapia fish ) The sandwiches looked good, sampler plate was looking great but their desserts made my mouth water... couldn't have it, my diet. Staff is very friendly and on their toes with service. There are outdoor tables with nice shading. I do recommend the Purple Turnip, I believe you will too. read more

The vegetable plate at Purple turnip is great. I have tried other dishes there but the vegetable plate has always been a favorite of mine. This is the first place I ever had tiramisu, it is excellent here. I have since had it in other places, ut the purple turnip is one of my favorite places to eat tiramisu. I am going to have to try the caprese salad with all the rave reviews about it now. I do wissh they were pen more hours, but they are an excellent place to eat with good price for what they serve. read more

Great food and good service. The Purple Turnip has been here a number of years and in its secluded location, it delivers good food at a really good price. Come visit in the late afternoon for a hearty meal or a light fair. I love the Angel hair pasta with marinara...you can add meat balls as well. I got gifted a cheesecake from this place for Thanksgiving and I just had to come write about it! It's the pumpkin cheesecake. There's a solid, sweet crust that's generously filled with a light, fluffy, flavorful pumpkin filling and topped with super airy and sweetened cream and a sprinkle of what I believe is pumpkin spice. Every aspect of the dessert is seasoned and whipped to perfection but the pumpkin spice is really strong. I thought it was just the extra garnish but the filling itself has a serious bite to it and is definitely only for pumpkin spice lovers. They didn't stop at just cinnamon and nutmeg. I could definitely taste allspice. I think if the spice was toned down just a smudge it would be a flawless cheesecake but we're still going to eat the whole thing :) read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and I host a foodie radio show and decided to have a date night to do "research" for a show. Walked in to no greeting. After several minutes a waitress told us to sit anywhere. Turns out she was the only waitress. There were 6 occupied tables. I ordered tea, and husband ordered water. The caprese salad was actually visually appealing and quite tasty. The rolls were ok. The tea was good, nice and strong. Hubby ordered the herb topped tilapia. I ordered the filet mignon cooked med well, more on the well side. The dishes came out. Everything looked ok. My plate had 5 baby carrots, a roasted whole potato, asparagus, the steak. The outside of the steak looked great, however, it was raw when I cut into it, and the bacon was raw as well. Hubby's plate had 4 baby carrots asparagus, and mashed potatoes and his fish. The waitress made herself scarce and never came back for me to send the steak back. The tasty tea was never refilled. My hubby never salts his food, had to pour salt on his potatoes to give them flavor. The asparagus was limp and lacking any flavor. Worst dining experience we've ever experienced. We will NOT go back. We did speak of the terrible experience on our show, but out of the kindness in our hearts, we didn't mention the name of the restaurant. read more

Great small place that has a great selection to choose from during lunch hours, the bacon, tomato and mozzarella sandwich are made to perfection as well the cheeseburger, with a side of fresh in-house made Caesar salad and you are set. read more

I love this restaurant for an evening out with my husband. Very quaint but fancy place and you can bring your own bottle of your favorite wine. We normally take two bottles because I like the dark and light sweet and fruity and my husband is very much on the dry side of the wines. Very nice place for an evening out!!! read more

It's a nice change from chains in the area... I went here with my mom and grandma. We each had a sampler, which consisted of a Cup of soup, a piece of quiche, and chicken salad. I had the tomato basil soup rather than the chicken soup and although not bad, I enjoy a creamier, less spicy tomato soup. We each day a piece of the Coconut Cream Pie and I don't think any of us regretted that at all. Best ever. :) I'll be back definitely when I'm in town visiting my grandma. read more

I feel like I need to set the record straight after the last review. The food and service were great as usual. I took a star off because, yes, the owner yelled. He was out of line. But I can't say I would have done anything different if it were me. The restaurant was full (20 tables or so). They have two people cooking, one waitress and a buss boy. This is normal for them. They were unusually busy and couldn't keep up. Things were taking a long time, which is frustrating, but I was at the table next to the seniors. The waitress was bringing their food out to them while they were berating and yelling at her to the point she started crying. She went back to collect herself and we went to the register to pay (giving us a view of both the kitchen and dining room). The owner was cooking and stopped to see the waitress (his daughter) bawling. He went and yelled at the table to leave. He shouldn't have yelled but I absolutely understand him asking them to leave. They shouldn't treat staff that way, especially when non of it was the waitress' fault. read more

Below mediocre. The only reason why I don't give this place 1 star is because the service was actually very nice and the restaurant looked very nice and quaint. If I pay 55 dollars for a meal for two, I expect food that I can finish. I got the Cajun blackened tilapia and it was seasoned to the point of near inedible. My girlfriend ordered the salmon, which was actually not bad. But both dishes came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. You'd think two separate dishes would have different sides that would complement the fish, but no. Steamed carrots and asparagus on both. Plus the food was not appealing whatsoever. We were celebrating a birthday locally with friends at the Purple Turnip. This is usually the "special" place for weekend evening dining in Cleburne. We had waited a little more than an hour and half, but enjoy our visit. Another reservation of 10-12 senior adults had already waited two hours, without being served their dinner. WHAT HAPPENED ALL OF A SUDDEN?? John, the chef, comes out SHOUTING something (?) to SOMEONE (?). We cannot understand exactly what he said, nor do we know to whom he was speaking. Regardless, the table of senior adults felt he was telling them to leave, so they left! How UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE can one be? John, you lost a lot of customers tonight with your frustration and bad behavior. You take reservations for a reason. Don't over commit, then take it out on your customers. There are better ways to handle whatever might have happened. There was no communication from the kitchen with dinner guests as to the delay or any issues. People are generally very accommodating if they are aware of what is going on. We will not be returning to The Purple Turnip because of this experience. read more

I had the seafood plate. Shrimp were cooked perfectly and were ice cold. Smoked salmon with capers was delicious. The remoulade rivals any in Louisiana. Can't wait to get there again. read more

I last ate at the Purple Turnip at lunch two years ago and I vowed to never return. I broke that vow today and I am sorry I did. The food was bland and under seasoned. The fruit that came with our sandwiches was cut days ago, and sadly, our server was horrible. She was short and rude even to the point of letting out a painful sigh when my son changed his order just seconds after he first ordered. She didn't mention any of the specials (and there were quite a few). I really don't know how this place remains open. read more

Food is great but the SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! I had a waitress tell me I couldn't get lemon with water cause she didn't "have time to cut a lemon" Or sat and watched several tables get to go boxes, refills and checks before waitress even came Back to my table. Watched waitress turn her back to me to grab windex and paper towels to clean a table and not even ask if we needed anything. Had to get my own Togo box and walk to front and check out. Front asked where my ticket was and i explained I never got one at the same time the waitress said "have a nice day." Place is going down hill. TIP: get the food to go and enjoy cause if you come in the service will ruin your meal. read more

I have eaten at the Purple Turnip many times, but today I was greatly disappointed in the taste and quality of the food. I had the trio plate with chicken salad, soup, and fruit. The chicken salad was mediocre, at the very least, with way too much mayonnaise and very little else except chicken chunks. The pasta and chicken vegetable soup had tons of stringy chicken, corn, and shell pasta and was not very good at all. My fruit had fresh pineapple in it that had dark spots on it and looked unfit to eat. Our rolls were very hard, barely warm, and served without butter. We asked for butter and were brought a cold pat of butter that was hardly spreadable and were not given any knives to spread the butter with. The service was certainly not attentive as it had been in the past visits. I will not return here, nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone else as I have done in the past. There were not many people there for lunch either. Now I can see why. Is there a new cook on the premises? read more
