The staff was amazing! we did have to wait, but it's a very nice atmosphere, It gave us time to check out the pie cabinet and the specials on the wall! This was my first time to dine in. It seems like it is the most popular restaurant in town. Every table was full, there was a line to cash out and line to get a table. Cashier was doing her best to manage. Welcome to Friday night. Lol. Know one really wanted to take care of me right away. Finally, a young Hispanic gir,l asked if I had been helped. Another girl asked if I would like some rolls while I wait. Lots of friendly conversations around and the Sweet Tea was Popular. I ordered the Fried Jalapenos for 5.99 I expected a few Jalapeno poppers like from Sonic instead it was a plate full. They are so good. Spicy and crispy. This little restaurant is amazing! If I could give service 10 stars I would. They took our drink order as soon as we sat down. Our food came out quick. My Wife and I decided to come here while on the way home from a weekend in Burleson and it was not overly impressive to me. I got the Chicken fried steak and it was probably 60% breading and 40% actual meat. I also got the corn, carrots, and a loaded baked potato. The potato and corn was really good despite the potato being really small. The carrots tasted like carrots that came out of a stew or pot roast but they weren't bad except I was thinking they would be sweet carrots. Overall this might be a place I stop at if around the area again. read more

We were recommended to check this place out while we are visiting Texas. I'm glad we went! R&K brings that rustic, classic country eating that I miss! The interior is old town style and has that Texas charm. Our server was friendly, quick and easy going. Our group of three all had their coffee, which was excellent, and the country fried steak combo. You get PLENTY of food for $12! In the photo was my platter PLUS a side of biscuits and gravy. Now that's the kind of breakfast you can't get just anywhere. Their country fried steak was delicious and breaded perfectly. I got hash browns with my steak and they were seasoned to perfection. Try the gravy! And get extra because it's delicious! As we left, we also bought a slice of pecan pie and that was the perfect touch to our breakfast. Will be back. read more

I ate here 3 nights in a row, not wanting to go too far from the BnB and being tired from showing my dogs all day long. Thursday was a Very Busy night with home town baseball families coming in! I had good service and wonderful food. Friday night was Fantastic! Super service, even the "new" hire girl was good, fabulous ribeye, was a great deal! Now Saturday, I was looking forward to seeing those same girls, well.... All of the previous night girls are off Saturday night, oh darn! I order fried green tomatoes with the "special " sauce, and Calf fries!! I get the Sysco bagged tomatoes and no sauce! I ask for THE sauce and was told that they didn't print the menu so have no idea what the special sauce was!!! Not once was I asked why the tomatoes were not eaten, ( tried half a slice) rest still in the basket. (No plate was given to eat off of, so slicing the tomatoes in the paper lined basket was not appetizing. Pushing the tomatoes away I look forward to calf fries, Was Excited! You don't get those often!! My side was the squash casserole. Calf fries were perfect, casserole cold and very bland. All in all great small town cafe, just Don't expect good service on Saturday night, they were the "C" team. I must add that I saw customers bussing their tables and getting silverware and napkins, mind you they were NOT that busy! Also the Hispanic music pouring out of the kitchen was a bit loud, but keeping the cook happy probably is important , I wasn't amused. I do recommend going by even if it's just for pie!! Run away. The once stable and consistent local cafe is now in a state of turmoil. Crazy guy in tattered shorts running around yelling at customers, disrupting service and causing all kinds of uncomfortable issues. Food looks like hamburger helper and tastes a LOT worse. The salad bar looks like a trough... ill kept, nasty cross contamination, empty containers. Sad thing is the servers are amazing, as is the manager. Kaitlyn took care of us and was helpful, prompt and pleasant. Her service was excellent. We had hamburgers and one of the Thursday special choices (Chicken fried steak). Burgers were large, fresh and not just an average burger. Onion rings are special and you should try them. Good, freshly prepared in the kitchen chicken fried steaks are difficult to find. This one had tender steak and perfectly crisp batter. The setting is old school diner next to a tire store on Main Street. This is worth finding. read more

Vegetable Omelet- Per the menu, this has onions,peppers,mushrooms,tomatoes with optional cheese served with either hash browns, grits, or biscuits and gravy. I ordered the omelet no cheese hold the extras. What I received was a flattened out scrambled egg doubled over with the vegetables spread on top, which in my opinion is not an omelet. Huge disappointment and they wrote the ticket at full charge while holding the cheese and extras and not creating an actual omelet. (Shaking my head)Of course I sent it back and chose nothing to replace it because who knows what might happen in return and I suggested the charge be removed which it was. R & K Cafe makes classic home cooked meals. Today, I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans and a side salad. Warm rolls too! The meal was $16.00 and the wait staff was very friendly and never let the ice-tea go empty. The restaurant is very open with a nice salad bar if your just wanting an endless salad. Just moved to the area with my Husband and recognize the parking lot was full all day long each day. We came for Sunday breakfast and it did not disappoint! We had French toast, eggs, grits, and a breakfast burrito with coffee. First place we've been to in Texas that was affordable with breakfast at $23. Do not miss out! Not on the beaten path but worth finding this hidden gem!! It was recommended on a Facebook camping group, so we decided to give it a try while we were in town . We were seated immediately (for those that have never been you just find an empty table). Our waitress was prompt to take our drink order. The daily specials are listed on the big white boards on either side of the cafe. Menus are also on the tables. Portions were large and almost every table got a to go box. I got the catfish special it came with 3 sides and my husband got the chicken fried steak special. It also came with 3 sides. We both got the trip to the salad bar (for the size of the salad bar they had a lot of items to choose from), and the squash casserole (interesting side dish - cornbread base with squash, zucchini, and onion- not what we expecting but not terrible either). I got green beans ( had good seasoning and bacon flavor and pieces of bacon) hubby got fried okra - yummy. They also serve homemade yeasty warm rolls (butter is on the table). I went to R and K II for my first time. We were there to see a musical play at The Plaza and chose this restaurant because of it's location. We were all impressed. I had the Hamburger Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, and Squash. The steak was cooked over Mesquite Wood which gave it a delicious smoky taste. The sides were great too. I've been here a few times with friends, for breakfast, I've yet to try the lunch/dinner items. If the later is as good as the breakfast, than it's definitely worth the trip to try it. Both times I've had the breakfast, and it's good especially for the price. All of the small cafe smells and tasters from age old cook tops is blended in to the food. I really like that.
