Today we were passing through and decided to have dinner. As we came in there was no hostess....only the very powerful smell of cigarette smoke (like the kind at a bar from the 1980's). There were literally clouds of smoke. It took someone awhile to finally seat us. The food was ok. Just ok. The server was very sweet but customers do like spoons with soup. Before leaving we made a trip to the restroom. The stinch of raw sewage was incredible. It was appalling. I haven't been to an Applebee's in awhile. I sure hope this is not wha they all have come to. I came in 2 hours before closing. The guy told me that the bar was only available and walked off. He didn't even show us to our table, or give us menus or silverware. I actually love Applebee's but this one in Cleburne allows smoking so EVERY time I've tried to go in, had to turn around and leave. Not only that, but there was a young lady server who was pregnant. All the tables/booths were dirty, (the place was about half full), the waitresses were meandering with no sense of purpose or urgency, hardly anyone had food in front of them, and many appeared annoyed and were tapping their fingers on the table. My soul was immediately crushed as well as my nostrils by the INSANE cigarette smoke inside of there. When I walked through the door with my daughter we were met with a damn rock show stage entrance... that's how cloudy that restaurant was with all the cancer filled nastiness. Our hostess had too much cleavage showing, was smoking a cigarette right in front of us, and spit on the ground as she was walking us to our table. The bartender may as well have made his bed on the floor because he wasn't doing jack s*** but on his phone. To make things worse, the burgers were still damn mooing by the time they came out!! This is most certainly one of those times when you wish that Yelp had negative star ratings. This is by far the worse restaurant experience I've dealt with in a LONG time. First, you're overwhelmed by the smell of smoke, there is no escaping it, you may as well be in a smoky bar. Repulsive to say the least. Now let's move on to the food, which was just as bad if not worse. Started with spinach artichoke dip. I have never had more flavorless and unappealing spinach artichoke dip in my life. I was once shocked as a hostess served spinach artichoke dip out of a jar off the shelf, but that dip was better than this concoction. A very unappetizing appetizer! I had brisket tacos that were served with fries. How do you screw something this simple up? Well first you serve it cold!!! Then you put about 3 strings of brisket on each taco and enough of the over salted salsa on top as you can to make me full. Topped with fried onion strings that appear to have been half cooked before being placed on the tacos. Horrible entree, especially for a very hungry, overworked fat guy. Partner had some kind of Mac and cheese thing with fried chicken strips on top. Something he enjoyed because he loves Mac and cheese, but to me it was in line with the previous mention, horrible food, but at least it was served hot! Ate there yesterday with my baby girl. Wasn't necessarily busy at the time we got there (around 1:45 pm) Waitress was training someone. They were friendly enough, but by the time our food got to us, you could tell it had been sitting awhile. So first off it was very smokey finally a waitress come by only because another patron pointed out to his waitress that their were customers that have not been helped. Now we have 3 people serving our table each one came by to take our drink order but nobody brought a drink. When this was pointed out we got one drink per person all served by different people (who apparently can only carry one drink at a time) . There were several flies flying in the restaurant couple of dead ones in the window sill I actually killed one with the drink menu. Food was edible although they were out of several items on the menu. We ordered off the 2 for 20 list told the waitress that was what we wanted before ordering. Needless to say we were charged considerably more than $20 they are getting one star because they did correct the bill. They have great drink prices all day, which is a plus to anyone that enjoys a cocktail with their evening out. The Butcher's Choice sirloin was wonderful, as well as the new Caprese Mozzarella Chicken. We had a great time for a great price! Our first server's shift ended & he left us with Bill. They were both excellent, but Bill was very friendly and helpful! We really appreciated the patience he had with us as we decided what to order.
