One of our favorite places to eat when in Glen Rose. Great section of sandwiches, soups and salads. Have tried most of menu and haven't had a bad meal yet. My personal favorite is the club sandwich. Cant leave out that have to top off every meal with cobbler and ice cream, I like the blackberry, wife likes the peach. Have a lot of books and kids play area inside. Love this neat little nook!!! A bookshop and lovely little restaurant all in one! It's like a dream come true! Such a beautiful environment with a bookshelf wall complete with rolling ladder! And if that wasn't enough, the food is great! Fresh squeezed lemonade! Not too sweet, not too tart. The most perfect lemonade I've had since I was a kid. I had a half Rueben and apple broccoli slaw and I would have it again! And again! The sandwich was loaded up and delicious on grilled marble rye. The corned beef was better than I can get in Dallas. The Apple broccoli slaw so good! AND THEY HAVE HOMEMADE BUTTERMILK PIE!!!! It may the best I've ever tasted. The food here took me back to better times. 04/2025 My wife and I came in for the first time for lunch on a Friday afternoon, around 12 PM, during our visit to Glen Rose. The Cafe was fairly busy, but there was plenty of seating available. The Cafe is spacious and it seems to be good for small and larger parties. The set-up is great, especially if you're a book-lover. The walls are filled with shelves of all types of books and there's a lot of creative, book-related decor throughout. There is a small parking lot, but also know it's a couple of minutes walking from GR's downtown area, an easy and quick stroll if you want to park somewhere there. When we sat down we were greeted promptly and our waitress was very attentive and kind throughout our meal. There's definitely a culture of hospitality here that we felt and loved. To eat, I ordered the Sarah, grilled, which included:Turkey, Bacon, Cheese, and Avocado, on Wheatberry bread. I had "Brewed Peach Tea" to drink. The sandwich was DELICIOUS and I love that it was full and fat. They have a variety of other sandwich options that also sound so appetizing. The sandwich comes with a side of chips of your choice. The iced tea was also great, perfect on a warmer day. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend it. Their hours go into the early afternoon only so be aware of that. The menu is simple all sandwiches and all of them are good. I had the Ham and Cheese with the chips. My uncle had the Rueben with chips, aunt had the club with chips and my mother had the BLT with chips. Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. After we ate 3 of us ordered the peach cobbler with one scoop of vanilla ice cream and the other ordered the black berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. The cobbler was fantastic. The service was good our waitress was very nice and even though they were busy our order came fairly quickly. The Cafe is an old mid to early 1900's repurposed gas station. Once you walk inside the cafe now has book shelves along the walls and register area. You are free to grab a book and read it while you are there. There is also a garden area outside you are free to sit at and eat/read. It being Texas and all you will probably avoid it in the hot months. We ended up here because most of the restaurants were closed. We were there on a Wednesday. I walled into one of the shops and asked were they recommend we grab lunch and was told the Storiebook would be a good choice. I would definitely recommend. read more

Quirky, fun place. Waitress super nice. Food was great but kinda pricey. Then it got VERY annoying. I told her I only wanted half a sandwich and no chips as they looked big and I wasn't super hungry. I was shocked when bill came and I found out they charged me for the whole meal! Waitress never told me that when I ordered. If I had known I would have taken the other half to go. My husband just took bill up and paid so I didn't see that they had charged me until afterwards. I SHOULD have said something in case it was an error or to get credit but it was after the fact and didn't want to make a scene. read more

I've been going to Storiebook cafe with my mom in Glen rose for a while now and their sandwiches are always on point! I still have things I want to try there but the sandwiches I typically get with seasonal fruit always hits the spot. I LOVE the ambiance here. I love the library and book cafe vibes here along with the seasonal decor they have throughout the year. They play oldie 50's music which is so great and I love also. The service is always good here and the ladies are attentive and friendly. I love that me, my mom, and sometimes my grandma can just relax by playing card games or board games, or reading. One of the store owners recommended Storiebook Cafe, and it did not disappoint. We were immediately greeted when we walked in with the sweetest Texas charm. The atmosphere was awesome...having lunch in the middle of a library feel. I got the Greek Salad with Chicken and Hubby a Reuben sandwich. My salad was fresh and full of feta, olives, tomatoes, and a heaping serving of chicken. Hubby's Reuben was equally yummy. The meal was fantastic, but the bread and butter pickles were the best! They've made me feel welcome to Glen Rose in a way that's sincere and real, always greeting me by name the moment I walk in. Early on, they even convinced me to try their Reuben sandwich, even though I thought I wasn't a fan of sauerkraut. It is, indeed, the KING of sandwiches. [Chef's kiss!] And I've come to enjoy the slight tang of the 'kraut cuz it helps to cut the fattiness of the corned beef. Over time, I've worked my way through the menu of this delightful deli cum bookstore. I'm not sure they sell a lot of books anymore but they've certainly found their calling in making sandwiches, wraps, and salads. (Highly recommend the Greek Salad with Chicken.) As good as the food is, the people are what make StorieBook Café unique and special. Owner Storie Sharp makes sure things run smoothly and that both her customers and staff have what they need. Jennifer takes customer orders and moves so fast it's easy to believe she can be in two places at once. "Order in!" Bobbie and Patty make the sandwiches, salads, and sides and never miss a beat, consistently delivering the best tasting, most satisfying lunches I've ever had, while being able to turn on a dime and make whatever substitutions customers have a hankerin' for. Amazing customer service and the ladies in the kitchen can throw together a very mean "Greg"!! Wonderful flavors from the Secret Menu and a MUST STOP if you've got little ones with you. What a charming little place!! We went on a road trip this past weekend and stopped here for lunch. The staff was awesome, the food was fresh and tasty, the pickles were AMAZING, and the ambiance was great. I had a turkey sandwich from the 'not so secret, secret menu' and it was delicious. I was lucky enough to spend some time around Glenn Rose, including time to check out this restaurant. The reviews provided by previous Yelpers who visited this restaurant were encouraging and led me here but I was not prepared for how popular this restaurant is with the locals and with those passing through, even if it is a few blocks off the main square. I got there about noon, and was seated at a table with another traveler as otherwise I would have had a longer wait. The tables were essentially full when I arrived, and people kept coming in for the whole time that I was there. The wait never got too long that people left before they were seated; it was that good that people wanted to wait. And this did not include the number of people who came for take away. The service was great, the people were very nice, and the food was very good. The potato soup was among the best that I have had in quite a while (I have been searching for years for a great potato soup; most I have found are too thin and/or don't have many chunks of potato), and the chicken salad sandwich was tasty (it amazes me the number of restaurants that can't make a decent chicken salad sandwich). Well.... The food was good. Turkey club, BLT pasta for my side, and chicken salad on croissant. The chicken salad was nothing special but it was good. The turkey club also good. The food is 3-4 star...... The service wasn't bad, it was just extremely slow. I believe there was only 2 people working and it showed. It took 1 hour and 17 minutes for our food to come out. (Arrived at 1:00 food came at 2:17, I was looking at my watch, I was starving!) You saw my order right? Two sandwiches and a scoop of pasta. It took entirely too long. But the waitress was nice. She said they only have one toaster in the kitchen. For a sandwich place, that's probably not enough. The table was sticky. There were lots of flies, but they were everywhere in Glen Rose. They did have a kids area... Be aware of this before you go in. If you have kids, it's great, but if you are not wanting to eat in a Sunday school daycare, maybe skip the storybook cafe. The pickles that came with it were sweet, which was unexpected. the sandwich itself is pretty small... I was expecting a "fatter" portion. My hunger was satisfied, but I was not stuffed by any means. It was good, but nothing to go crazy about. Our food took a while to come out. Yes it was busy after we sat down, but when we came it wasn't. They seem understaffed as no one asked how our food was. Needing a break from the beefapalooza weekend we were having, I dragged the 3 men in my life to Storiebook Cafe for lunch last Saturday. The inside is very cute and eclectic, with books everywhere. The menu is somewhat small, but fresh and inviting. I decided on the turkey & avocado wrap on a spinach tortilla-it was fresh, tasty and just what I wanted. Even my boys had to concede that they enjoyed their sandwiches, even though nothing was fried (one still insisted on roast beef).
