Since I don't often get the chance to enjoy breakfast while visiting Granbury, we decided to stop by Cari's--a place I hadn't been to since 2018. From the start, breakfast was solid all the way around. Seating was quick (we seated ourselves), and our waitress came over almost immediately to take drink orders. When she returned, we were ready to order--which is always a minor victory when dining with my youngest grandsons. One of them eats like a champ; the other... not so much. On this visit, hash browns were the sole winner for him. As for me, I went big. I ordered the spinach and mushroom omelet topped with hollandaise sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. The breakfast also came with two large pancakes. The only minor downside was that the pancakes arrived just slightly warm--not hot. I understand they're likely made ahead and held under a heat lamp while the rest of the table's orders are finished, so it wasn't a dealbreaker, and I still enjoyed them. Overall, Cari's is a great spot for breakfast, and hopefully I won't wait another eight years before my next visit! read more

Solid diner experience. Some pluses some minuses. First time here. Entry is extremely nondescript but very friendly welcome and service once inside. Came for brunch / late breakfast. Reasonable prices but substitutions do cost extra even though it seems you had options. Denver omelet was good. Adding salsa, extra. Two pancakes are standard but when asked if I wanted something different - toast, English muffin, biscuit and gravy - figured it wouldn't entail an up charge. Chose a biscuit no gravy. Biscuit (one smallish) was outstanding but an extra charge which seems odd because the price as a side is less than the cost of one pancake as a side, much less two pancakes. Oh well. No big deal. Also ordered a side of grits. Not impressed. Very runny. Wife had a Belgium waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream. It smelled great and sweet but she said strawberries were cold and mushy like they had been frozen. She left three on her plate but did like the actual waffle. Came here on a whim and were so pleasantly surprised. You seat yourself and a server comes to you. All of the servers were very kind and chatty, and the food came to us fast and was hot. The food we got also came in large portions for a good price. They were out of espresso (so no latte) but the regular coffee was just as good. Then we were totally sold on their fresh fried cherry pie (which came among a large variety of other flavors). It has a nice homey diner vibe and didn't feel sticky or gross. The wife and I had breakfast this morning. The wife had her favorite pumpkin pancakes and bacon, I had the eggs Benedict. Food was good, no complaints there. Service was great. Went to pay that's when we had an issue. We asked if they added a surcharge for credit, was told "yes". Then asked if they charged the fee for a debit card and was told yes they did. Used the debit card, sure enough they did apply a surcharge. Be aware; This is "Illegal". Verbiage from Star Telegram: Is it legal to charge a debit card fee in Texas? No. In Texas, businesses are not allowed to add a fee for paying with a debit card. State law specifically prohibits it, and federal rules reinforce that ban. The idea behind these protections is that customers should not be penalized for choosing to pay with money that comes directly from their bank account. Every 6 weeks I go to Granbury to get my hair done by the best hair stylist in NTX! This time Javiers daughter Ximena went with me & we were hungry so I looked up breakfast/brunch near the salon & this place came up. I have to say I hate giving this place this review because the front of the house of this place is amazing. The wait staff, the bus staff, the guys walking around asking if everything is everything ok ,taste ok, need more coffee, gets you seated. Wow they are amazing. Friendliest service I've seen in a long time. Play with the kids & speak to the guest almost like they are family, but the food. The food. This food was almost inedible. Maybe it's me, but i dont know because Ximena was with me & she was just moving stuff around on her plate too. When I asked do you like it & she said it's not very good. It has no flavor. She ordered the pork chop plate w/mashed potatoes & baked beans & a roll. I tasted her pork chop. It had absolutely no seasoning. Her roll tasted like pure flour. I ordered the patty melt. 1st it didn't look like any patty melt I have ever ordered anywhere ever before. It looked like a sad grilled cheese w/extra onions & a McDonald's patty. That's what it tasted like too. I opted for the onion rings which Whataburger onion rings taste better. I asked for a side of ranch & they must use an off brand ranch, it's not homemade nor hidden valley. It was very thick & flavorless. I did order coffee which is very strong & with 4 creams & a lot of sugar it was perfect. Again I'm sorry to write this about the food because every single person that enters that building the customers, employees, everyone was beyond nice & wanted to make your day better. This was just my experience. My hope is that everyone goes out still & try's this business because your taste buds could be different than mine & you may absolutely love it or maybe their extensive breakfast menu may be way better than the lunch. Very sweet breakfast spot with loads of classic diner dishes! We were seated quickly and well taken care of, even had the manager walking around chatting with customers. The portions were large and we all left with full bellies. The food was a bit overcooked and under seasoned, so pretty typical for these types of restaurants, but we got what we expected, so no one was disappointed! Through no fault of Cari's, our Church changed it service time (to an hour later). Now, when we leave Church (at 11am) and want breakfast at Cari's, the line, and wait, is super-long. This in itself, is not a huge problem, but I do not think Cari's handles the wait-list very well. In fact, there was a line, outside, in the bright hot sun, just to get to line inside, that was in line to get on the wait list. After waiting 15 minutes, and still being outside, we opted to go elsewhere. It would have been OK if the outside was covered, as the other side of the building is, but by the entrance it is not. But, the times in the past that we have eaten at Cari's, we do enjoy it. I am particularly found of the (seasonal?) pumpkin pancakes. Yum! I've been coming here for years but with a new manager about a year ago, I feel like I can tell the difference. Coming for breakfast won't be a quit even. This is a busy bustling diner with great hometown atmosphere. The manager is super kind and talks to his employees with a great smile. It's a mix of both old gen and new gen providing great service. We have been here 3 times total and it NEVER FAILS TO AMAZE. They were busy today but the wait to get seated was very short and the service was top notch. This place was recommended to us. Certainly did not disappoint. Right away I knew it was going to be good because locals where waiting in line. We got seated fairly quickly. The service was absolutely great. The waitress came and checked on us often and brought everything out as was ordered and requested. The staff look like they enjoy their job and greet with a friendly face. The eggs Benedict were really good. My nephew ate his entire cheese/egg omelet and pancakes and he is a picky eater. Nice little brunch diner. Lots of options. The pancakes were really good. The benedict was pretty solid. The grilled ham was particularly good on the benedict here. The grits were mediocre but okay. They were more watery, but not bad. The sausage links were okay but tasted like jimmy dean sausage links, again not bad but okay. Completely different experience now, sadly. I don't know if it's because of new management but the server was almost as rude as they come. She also didn't know that the sign said "BREAKFAST SPECIAL $3.99" And after I gave up arguing with her, she said she would check with the "new management," which she didn't say with any affection. When she returned, frustrated and in a hurry, she rattled off what the special was. The whole table heard that the special came with sausage patty or some other meat like bacon or ham I guess but after a while of just eating three small pancakes, I asked her about it. I heard wrong. $3.99 for three small pancakes. You correct me if that's a special. A big meat burrito the other men ordered is the same price. I can see why they call it a special because it makes them more margin for sure. And why would you have to spend any amount of time explaining a special if it was just a choice between pancakes and biscuits or whatever it was? To top it off, she didn't return my $11 plus change. I enjoyed the rest of my conversations and 10-15 minutes later I walked up to the counter only to see that the servers have an area where they eat their own breakfast in between serving plates of food, without gloves. Amazing. Disgusting. And my money just sitting there, hoping to go into the servers pocket I suppose. I hate leaving a bad review for such a beloved place but it's important that you have different expectations than the wonderful atmosphere it was. The decor is gone, which does tell you something. It was really hard to even tip this time - I enjoy giving big tips - but if you're spending $40, you don't expect to hate your experience and never return. I will try again since Pam's Too is closed because of their flooding and I will leave another review. Because all of this matters. Cari's, I hope this review does matter to you and your employees or else you won't survive your new management. Friendly staff and great menu. However, they have absolutely no regard for COVID. Tables are extremely close together, there is no spacing, customers are practically touching elbows on the countertops. The wait staff is wearing masks however half of the kitchen staff making food in the back and doing the dishes aren't wearing gloves and no masks! Would have love to have eaten here however it's a breathing ground for spreading COVID and when we politely let them know we were leaving because of the concerns we had (which we addressed politely and discretely as it's our opinion and no need to make a scene). We received "ok" and "y'all stay healthy" but nothing regarding the need to address the violations or any attempt to do things differently. Under normal conditions this place seems like an amazing place to eat and wish we had gotten the chance- maybe next time we visit Granbury. read more

We come here for their breakfasts a d we usually like the food and service and if it's not up to par, then they correct it. Today, everything was cold and not cooked thoroughly. Told the waitress and I have a feeling that she really didn't care. My scrambled eggs were terrible and seriously, who can screw up scrambled eggs? This place did. Arrived around 11 on Sunday. It was a little busy but we were seated right away on the back patio. Waited maybe 5 minutes for menus, which is fine. They were busy. Ordered & received our drinks in a decent amount of time, then ordered & received our food rather quickly. But now we have not been checked on in 25 minutes & my breakfast sandwich didn't come with American cheese like the menu stated. I am updating my review, in hopes the Owner will address this. We have been coming to Cari's for years. Love the place. Note to all readers -WE WILL STILL GO! However -today's experience caused me to update review. We arrived about 10 am ish - We selected the 3 items from the whiteboard. Suddenly - some grumpy woman came out and sternly informed our waitress within ear shot of us, that one of the items isn't available, till after 11. Wife reordered, baked.. Waitress apologized to us - NO big deal my wife said - I said - "why don't you mark the items on the board that are not available till after 11:00 as such?" - the waitress (who handled things quite well!) said - it was her fault, she should know, blah blah blah. Then the cook came out - and sternly addressed the same situation behind the counter to the waitress... again she's apologetic - I said - toward them - why not mark the board that some items are not available and so on. Immediately after NOW Baked potato isn't' available till after 11 (2 items now). Yet another member of the waitstaff behind the counter sternly told me that 'lunch isn't till 11:00'... I said -really? Why isn't it marked on the menu board? And that I am the customer.. She huffed off. Ok - then to add comedy - waitress came back and said - Oh Baked potato is now ready, would you like it? Yes..please, etc.. All quite funny - till. We both ordered liver and onions. What we received was shoe leather and onions. It was so overcooked, it was barely chew-able. Thus - it makes me wonder, if the cook had stayed in the kitchen to mind our meals on the grill, would our liver be edible? Not eating it they came and cleared plates, not even asking - why we didn't touch. I did mention the entire thing to the nice cashier. In sum. 1) DO NOT sell something that can't be ordered before a specific time. Mark the white board. 2) DO NOT yell at the waitress TWICE in front of the customer - fix your process. 3) DO NOT let another member of the waitstaff denigrate and demean a customer offering a helpful suggestion like NUMBER 1 of this list. 4) DO NOT serve shoe leather. Again, we will return, at this point I'm not sure when, but we will. I am writing this to you because I love your business and do not want mediocrity and the bad entitlement behavior that a fortunate and prosperous business can easily fall into. We stopped in for brunch on palm Sunday 3/24/24. It was full house, with a short wait. Everyone waited in line as there was an employee walking the restaurant ready to clean up a table as soon as it became available. There were 5 to 6 parties in front of us and the wait was relatively short. We had coffee and omelets with pancakes. The food was nice and hot and well worth the wait. The coffee, on the other hand, had lots to be desired. It was thin and tasteless. If you are a coffee snob, this is not the place for you.
