We stopped here on our way through town while on a road trip. We sat outside with our dog. The patio furniture was aging but the outside area was well maintained and charming. It's been several years since our last visit to Glen Rose. We found this little jewel several years ago during a prior visit. I don't remember anything about our first meal here, other than the food was good. Fast-forward to today. We brought our grand-daughter here to do some of the "dinosaur stuff" and decided to have lunch here. Oh my! The burgers were excellent. Big, beefy, half pound burgers, perfectly cooked, medium. The fries are old school and amazing. We shared a piece of coconut cream pie that was made in house this morning and was still warm. Just like my grandmother used to make!! (And that's a very high compliment!) We met the current owner, Jeremy, and he is working really hard to maintain the high quality reputation of this place. My only disappointment was the fact that they are no longer a "beer garden" (as the sign out front advertises), but rather BYOB. I'm a big fan of BYOB. Next time, I'll know better! We had the opportunity to visit the Green Pickle Grill in Glen Rose the other day. We have been wanting to go to go for a while, so we were excited to see what it was like. They were fairly crowded because it was Father's Day. However, we were have seated right away which was nice. It's a cute place with Knick-knack type decor. I didn't have the opportunity to go to the ladies room and check out the cleanliness of those facilities, so cannot comment on the timelines of those. Our waitress was somewhat friendly, but not overly so. She seemed to step up her friendliness when she saw me taking pictures of our food, which I find ironic when the wait staff does that. We ordered an appetizer of fried pickles, which were excellent which is to be expected due to the restaurant's name. My dining companion, and I both had hamburgers. My dining companion had some specialty burger (I can't remember which one). He said it was excellent. I just had a regular cheeseburger. It was good, but not excellent. The fries were okay but not great. The issue that I have with a lot of places these days is that their patties are frozen patties not freshly made patties and I'll tell you why. At the green pickle- an appetizer, "specialty burger," two orders of fries, a regular burger with two fountain drinks with a 20% tip came out to $60. I would expect that type of bill in downtown Fort Worth and/or Dallas, but not Glen Rose, Texas. Especially for a hamburger patty that is frozen. Also, there are two places in Glen Rose, where you can get a freshly made hamburger (with fries) for under $40 and one for under $30 (no fries). So, I think the next time I'll come back I'll just come for the fried pickles. It is a cute place and I think it does have a lot of history in Glen Rose so it might be worth a visit but just for the sake of saying that you went there. (To be completely honest though, once I read through all of the other reviews after I had already written mine several weeks ago but had not posted it yet. I was shocked to read the owner and/or manager's response to reviews on this site. If a proprietor cannot accept constructive feedback to improve his or her business, I often wonder what they are doing in business). Do they want to serve the customers the best possible product or just make money? This is my response to the owner/manager after my review was posted (and I changed my review from 3-stars to a 1 star for the incredibly rude response). Yes, Jeremy. I have been scrutinized in my line of work by people who think they can do my job better me and/or my job "easy" (which it is anything but) for over 30 years. HOWEVER, I have learned 1. Taking the high road is always the best option. 2. Listening to their concerns is the best way to learn about the areas in which you can improve even though it might hurt to hear the criticism at the time. No one is writing these reviews to hurt you personally. We would like you to improve so that we can have better places to eat. We were in Glen Rose for the Art & Wine Festival and were very disappointed in our visit to Green Pickle. We didn't have a wait to be seated but it took an hour and a half for us to get our food! Ridiculous!!! On top of that my BFs burger was well well done, onion rings obviously frozen and my chicken melt was okay, but HEAVY on onions, and my fries were so overcooked they were chewy. I only started a yelp account to warn other people about this place. We made sure we told everyone to avoid this place as we walked out. We waited over an hour because of the reviews we're supposedly good and what a sad disappointment. They want to claim they were busy on a "holiday weekend", it was Saturday at 1pm and there were 6 other couples inside. 6. Not 30, not 15. 6. With two waitresses. we waited over an hour, 30 min outside with no seating available while 8 other tables were open and available, (which we do understand because if you're short staffed you don't fill your tables, so we understood, but I emphasize this to say again, they were not busy) and then waited an hour after being seated. there was no lunch rush, it was not packed, we were the same 6 tables with 2 others who were leaving as we got our table. The food was ...inedible. The chicken strip sandwich was so soggy that the breading ON the chicken was laying BESIDE the chicken in a wet mess so I scrapped it off and attempted to eat the plain chicken by itself without the sandwich or breading because it had sat so long that even the toast was wet & gross to the point that my finger went right thru the bread when I tried to pick it up as a sandwich. I'm not going to comment on the fries other than to say I tried to pick up 1 and got 12 all stuck together, they were frozen fried so they weren't even cooked through. There was no point in asking for it to be fixed because they were already being rude to other tables and we were given our receipt literally before our food arrived so there was no point in adding a dessert or anything else if we had even wanted to. That was crazy to me to be given a receipt prior to food hitting the table. during our meal, we heard a gentleman who was a Vietnam veteran and elderly ask when their food might be ready because they had ordered almost an hour prior, to which the waitress snapped back "if you want food, go in the kitchen and cook it yourself!" HORRIBLE experience. We were traveling from out of town and wanted to give a small business a chance, we will definitely avoid this place and make sure others do as well. They must pay for the "good" reviews because the place is dirty, the back wall seating is a CARPETED bench which just feels nasty when it connects to the same flooring you're standing on, the bathroom trash was overflowing all over the floor and smelled like sewage and the kitchen staff's comments were appalling. As we paid and walked outside, us and another family who was standing outside waiting for a table heard the LOUD kitchen staff (their kitchen door was open) tell a waitress "that burger is done but it can sit there another 10 min since they want to rude anyway" the family standing there looked at us and asked if they heard that correctly and we told them to PLEASE find somewhere else to eat and shared our experience and they thanked us and walked away. I've worked in the food industry so to treat your customers like they're inconveniencing you and to be so rude to them is unacceptable. We steered 3 other families walking toward this place away on our way out and thankfully saved their afternoon. Their replies on other bad reviews shows their business integrity enough to speak for itself. How embarrassing for them. I will be posting on tiktok reviews and Facebook because no person, let alone a veteran should EVER be treated this way because he trusted your open door expecting quality service. You are absolutely allowed to have a bad day, even a bad workday. Close your doors if you can't keep up with 8-10 families in 2-3 hours. Lose money and save your reputation instead of taking your frustration out on paying customers. Do better. I expect a shameful excuse and reply as they posted on someone else's terrible experience who must have been dining near us during the EXACT same day and had the EXACT same experience & shared a review on google. I wouldn't expect anything more from you after experiencing it first hand by you in person. We were respectful and maintained a positive attitude and even left a tip. we had had such a beautiful day in Glen Rose that it wasn't worth our time to be ugly back. We have been coming here on the way down to visit Mama J. now for a couple of years - recently, the ownership has changed hands - and, wow, has the operation changed. Before, this place was an interesting mix of kitschy meets honest small-town Texas sass. Great personalities of the wait staff - this place made me yearn for where I grew up as I was on my drive back home. Now - they give you a menu if you want when you walk in, then ask you to take a seat, review the menu, then go up front to order, pay, and tip all at once. No time to see if the food is good or if the service will be worth your tip. If you are a regular here - PAY ATTENTION TO THE MENU!!!! The prices on several items have skyrocketed!!!! Refer to my menu pics from a short while back and then compare them to the menu pics from July 2021 posted by the owner. I get it if the price of the meat burgers had gone way up, as the price of beef has increased recently - but should a mushroom sandwich price go up by almost $4 in one month? Has the mushroom market exploded by an unnaturally disproportionate ratio of supply and demand that will drive up the price of a mushroom sandwich to epic levels? Not that I know of. Want pickled jalapenos on your burger/sandwich? Those used to be 75 cents but now will run you twice that. Did we eat everything? Yes. The portions were somewhat smaller, so that helped. The fact that we ordered two iced teas, two Vegetarian Portobello Mushroom Sandwiches with onion ring upgrades (one with the endangered pickled jalapenos) that came out to almost $44 - hell, yes, all the food was eaten. Every price here has gone way up without at least any notification from the new ownership here as to why. When we came here a couple of days ago - not a single local to be seen. When once before you were pushing your luck getting here at 11:00 expecting an open table - now you won't have a problem at all. This is Glen Rose - not Ft. Worth. Just because there is a 7/11 in town now is no reason to get Big City on everyone. And this review would not be fair without mentioning that at least the service is attentive. I visited Glen Rose for the first time and stopped in here for lunch. I was seated immediately, and the server brought me a glass of ice water and a menu right away. There's a nice view of the town square, and the place is very clean. I ordered chicken tenders, and they were excellent, but seeing the burgers at the next table made me wish I'd ordered a burger. I love a good burger, and that's what I'll have next time! They were huge! For those reviewers who complained about the prices, I thought they were reasonable for fresh food that was cooked to order. Was very disappointed with The Green Pickle based on some the previous reviews. First, we tried to order the sampler appetizer and they were out of bottle caps. Asked to replace it with something else and were told we don't make substitutions which was clearly written on the menu. Kind of seems like a substitution could have been made since they were out of something. IDK, it's that whole customer service thing. I ordered the BLT...absolutely awful. The toast was so hard I could barely bite into it. The bacon crackled when I tried pushing down the sandwich to be able to bite into it. The bacon was so over cooked that it fell with every bite. There was a small amount of lettuce and no tomato on the sandwich. I asked for a side salad instead of fries. Found out on the receipt there was a $4.99 charge for a measly side salad. The waitress should have said there was an additional charge. Charging a 20% gratuity is a bit much for a party of 6. This was printed on the menu...so okay. Then, there was an admin fee. What the heck? Maybe this is new, there was a higher charge for using a credit card versus paying with cash. Apparently, the burgers are good. The photos of bacon on their Facebook page look nothing like the bacon on the BLT I ordered. read more

Kids chicken tenders were $10, that did not include the $3.49 drink. My husband got a Philly cheesesteak that just looked sad. It had barely any meat, it costs $2 to add jalapeños. I understand inflation but they then charged $13.29 for a large party fee. When it was 2 adults, 2-10 year olds, a 4 year old and an infant. We definitely won't be going back. The one thing I noticed was the price of the burgers along with everything else. The drinks were over $3 and every burger from what I remember was over $12. We had a group of 5 adults and 2 toddlers. When time came to pay the bill we were charged an additional $30 large group fee. Which surprised all of us as I always knew it to be groups 8 or up. And you were always given a heads up as it's part of the tip. In total, our group bill came out to $200. Adorable joint that brings you back to the simple times in this small town! Pickle is the theme of the food and the atmosphere. There were also animal print chairs which makes sense because the restaurant is a great pit stop before a tour at Fossil Rim. Our waitress was sweet and very accommodating. We've had some terrible experiences at restaurants but this place takes the cake. My wife and I show up right around 9:30am on a Saturday and there are only two other tables in the entire establishment. Place is pretty run down, it's hot and kind of smells but we like dive joints so we're willing to forgive it. Fifteen minutes after ordering our server is just milling about the dining room cleaning tables and organizing condiments and we have to catch her and ask her to bring us our drinks. After that, we end up waiting for over an hour total to get our food, and again, there are three tables total in the entire restaurant, who have all gotten their food, eaten and left before we got ours. The server has to come and ask us questions about how we'd like our food two or three times. We are sitting close enough to the kitchen that for the last ten minutes or so we can hear the cooks yelling at people that our food is done. So we finally get our food and the order is all wrong. Had a bunch of sides we didn't order, and as we are eating one of the cooks comes wandering out and gives my wife a single piece of cheese on a plate, saying he is sorry he forgot to put it on the sandwich, but the sandwich we got already had cheese on it? And the piece of cheese was NASTY, it had crumbs and smears of condiments on it and it had CLEARLY been pulled off of some plate and then given to us. When we were leaving, we thought the shit show was over but as we are checking out we can hear someone in the back room yelling and complaining that several boxes of food were spoiled and smelled bad, and was telling people not to use them.
