A few years ago, I lived at The Shops at Legacy and Half Shells was my favorite place to eat and hang out. I went in last week and sat at the bar...asked the bartender if she could make me a Peartini (which I've ordered there many many times), she quickly responded "I don't have the ingredients to make it." I said, "Okay", was about to ask for the drink menu and she walked away. She never offered anything, never smiled, was completely disinterested. She didn't even greet me when I sat down at the bar. I got up, walked across the street to Sambuca and had the total opposite experience... a delicious Peartini served by a delightful bartender. Today, I went into Half Shells for crab legs and silently said a little prayer hoping the same bartender wasn't there...she was. Same disinterest, but she did make me a Peartini this time...food was good, but the service and atmosphere was very uninviting. So disappointed! read more

This place is incredible! Love the atmosphere and the oysters were HUGE. Definitely come back here soon :)

I know I shouldn't like this place so much since i am from Louisiana...but I just can't help myself. The creamed spinach is phenomenal. The gumbo is almost like something I would get back home. The waffle fries are rockin. The crab legs are solid. The fish options are numerous and yummy from what I've experienced. Stick to beer....mixed drinks here are pretty weak. Very nice staff, but be warned, they won't seat you without your full party present if there is a wait list. Nice casual atmosphere. read more

Im visiting from California and the grilled shrimp and cheese grits ranks right up there with some of the best Ive ever had. Excellent food with even better service read more

12-14-19 Our 1st time eating at this restaurant. It will not be our last. We had grilled trout, stuffed flounder, crab bisque and for dessert...the bread pudding. Everything was DELICIOUS. Our food came out quick & pipping hot. Dan, our waiter did a wonderful job & even provided us with samples of a variety of soups, chowder & gumbo & shrimp appetizer. All of the samples were very good. I look forward to eating here again, and again & again! read more

My family was in town from Little Rock and we chose to have lunch here. It was a great choice! Knowing that it was a seafood restaurant, I was expecting to pay lots of money for mediocre food. That was not the case! Everything was good, from the sweet peach tea, to the crab legs. Everyone ordered something different for sampling. I went against the grain and tried the crab cake sandwich. It went well with my crawfish bisque. We also ordered the shrimp salad, crab legs, gumbo, red beans and rice (amazing and perfectly cooked!), crab cakes and shrimp po boy. I will be back soon! read more

So I was invited back to try Half Shells again following an okay visit. We didn't have a chance to try the oyster nachos or gumbo again, but I did reorder the fish tacos. Last time I had subbed the flour tortillas for corn tortillas in an effort to be healthier, and that may have been the culprit to a dry and lame taco. HOWEVER, please order them with flour tortillas. It makes the difference. It was a little weird that half the taco was stone cold (the end with cheese), and the other side was hot (the end with fish). It was quite the odd mouth experience. Nevertheless, they were tasty. The bf ordered Fish and Chips and he thoroughly enjoyed them. They were huge chunks of cod, however the batter seemed to slide off as he ate them. Maybe if they were thinner strips, the batter would have more chance to stay on. They definitely had really good flavor, though. My second visit was definitely better than the first. The followup visit teeters between 3 and 4 stars, but I'll give it 3 because the tap water tasted.... very tappy. :( We had to order drinks instead. read more

Fantastic service A++++ Went in for lunch today with a friend. The waitress was wonderful. Very attentive and always asked how things were. Wendy you are a gem! We ordered the crab and shrimp boil for one and it was delicious!!! Usually I'm not big on the corn and other things they put in the pot but the sausage and corn that comes along with it were amazing! The crab and shrimp were cooked perfectly and even had a but of flavor from the sausage. Also loved my side salad. Not the typical lettuce and boring dressing. The side salad had blue cheese, candied pecans, and house vinaigrette on mixed greens. Coming back soon to try the fresh fish and oyster nachos! I hear they are wonderful! Truly a gem mixed among the shops at Legacy! read more

First, service was good - no issues there. Have gone to Half Shells before and it's been decent (at least 3-4 stars). This time, went for lunch and ordered the fried fish sandwich and waffle fries. First, fish was so bland that I think they forgot to salt the flour and coupled with the bun was just a miss. Second, my waffle fries tasted of seafood and not potatoes - AT ALL. That tells me it's old oil that needs changing. Thinking they need to consider changing the oil a bit more often. read more

What's not to like about this place? It;s a pretty good location and although parking is sometimes hard, there's complimentary valet! Who doesnt like complimentary valet? (Not an excuse not to tip... (who does that?) but complimentary nonetheless) I got the grilled tilapia. It was good. The oyster nachos were good. Everything here was good! I'll be back. I heard they also own Fish City Grill which I have been meaning to try, but haven't yet got the opportunity. I had the opportunity of eating here for lunch one day, and I was impressed. Not everyone can season a tilapia, and not everyone can pair french fries alongside mashed potatoes for fear of carb overload and still enjoy their meal guilt free. Not everyone however, is me, and my food was thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed to say the least! read more

Oyster nachos, oyster nachos, oyster nachos. They are the niche item to get when you come here and they come with a money back guarantee so there's no reason not to try them. You'll get your standard seafood fair here, along with their specialties of the day. If you're hankering for seafood but don't want something cheap like Long John Silvers or pay the Oceanaire's prices, this is the place to hit up. read more

Just down the a block from the wonderful Jasper Grill is this 1/2 shells seafood. I am sucker for shell fish, oyster, shrimp, clams, guess no kosher for me ... This place is neon light, retro feel and bar and fast food settings. Kind of nice to catch you farvorite sports during happy hours. Probably not an exotic full service dinner look out. The sign Oyster nachos seems an out-of-box concept. I ordered, it was as crazy as it advertised. Overall you get your shell fish, fresh and no sick. But not the most tasty one available. read more

We've been here a bunch over the years and we've never been disappointed in the food or service. My husband usually gets the oyster nachos and I've had them a couple times and think they're great, and I'm not an oyster fan at all. We like to sit at a table near the windows at the front so we can people watch while we chug 20oz beers. We'll definitely go back. read more

Excellent food and excellent service. Don't understand why the reviews I read were 2 to 6 years old. I was kind of concerned but so glad I came on down. I've been here before and it was great, but this time my fish tacos were smaller (narrow pieces) and two of the 4 pieces were chewy. I also ordered the seafood platter and the shrimp had a weird flavor to them. The catfish and oysters were good. read more

I LOVE HALF SHELLS! Seriously, I think this is my favorite of all the chains of Big Fish Grill, Fish City Grill, etc. The cream of jalapeno soup is outstanding, the crab is phenomenal. The service is great, the food is great, the drinks are great - you just can't go wrong here. Fish tacos are bomb! read more

Food is great but service was sporadic and lacking. The food got 4 stars but the service got 1.

Seafood is my favorite type of food, it's healthy, light but filling, and delicious. So I generally am 100% for it when co-workers mention something like this for lunch. Every day there are specials on the board, for a while I got the 6.99 tilapia, but I get sick of that pretty quickly considering I make it at home all the time and have gotten pretty good at it. Beyond that, your going to spend a good chunk of change to get some nice fish, or your going to have to get a pasta type bowl or fish tacos, which kind of defeat the whole healthy fish lunch you had planned on to begin with. I will say this, the fish tacos and the shrimp tacos are really good, and after all not everyone cares about how healthy they are. I recently went and had the shrimp and grits which was also great. The food is good, but I am limited to a very specific portion of the menu unless I want to spend $15/$20 at lunch, which I don't. read more

Great location. Fantastic top shelf cocktails. $6 oyster nacho special. The street is great for shopping and this spot is perfect for a happy hour break. Grab a spot at the window and people watch. Good location for adult conversation/socializing. Went with another couple and had a fantastic time. Oyster nachos are amazing. Even if they aren't a special they are well worth the price. read more

This time of year is perfect for good seafood and Half Shells definitely did not disappoint, I love the casual feel of the restaurant and the festive decor. I also appreciate the fact that the specials on on a blackboard so you can read over them rather than listen to the waiter rattle them off. The boiled craw fish were well seasoned and definitely fresh. I had the crab stuffed flounder and the flavors were excellent. The cream sauce made the dish. The steamed veggies were definitely from fresh and had a great lemon flavor. Coronas were ice cold and extremely well priced. read more

This was our second time here - first time was in 2016 and we hadn't returned since and didn't remember why. I had high hopes going in as I love seafood and we hoped this would be a good alternative to driving down to Dallas to dine at Lovers Seafood and Market (formerly Rex's). The service was average, slow, not very attentive. We tried the Blue point oysters but they were flavorless and unfortunately so unappetizing we only ate two then stopped. We did appreciate them backing them off the check. My daughter had fish stick strips off the kids menu and they were very rubbery with no flavor. Husband had fried catfish and fried oysters - both disappointing and plain. Peel and eat shrimp were fine but not much flavor. The crab bisque was fine - very rich and cheesy, no chunks of crab or anything. I can't imagine going back. So disappointing, I really wanted to love it! read more

Great food and customer service. Bartender Brie was very attentive and with a smile. Manger Fernando was friendly and making sure everything was good. I just liked it. If you want great service and food this is the place to go. read more

Not quite New Orleans, but not quite bad. Atmosphere is a bar up front and a cramped Bennigan's feel in the back without the booths...and a few Mardi Gras items strewn about like a crappy Mardi Gras party decorating kit gone worse. But the food: Better than average dark roux gumbo, although they only have chicken/shrimp/sausage gumbo. Average bread pudding, but kudos for no raisins. Blackened Tilapia and Fried Shrimp had excellent waffle fries. On special were numerous New Orleans fish dishes, ex. blackened drum, tilapia, red fish etc... Good place for kids at The Shops at Legacy because it is very busy and loud, and no one seemed to notice when our 2-year old dinner guest made a few loud outbursts. Service is hit or miss. For example, our waitress was very on top of the table, but alternated that with breaks of sitting at her boyfriend's table. Also, we never got a full round of ice water...it is freaking 107 degrees outside serve ice water to everyone please. I assumed they were twisting my arm into having another Fat Tire from the tap...so I did. read more

This place is pretty solid. Oysters were fresh, I really liked the grilled fish but the shrimp and grits were a let down. It came heavily recommended by my family and why I liked it... I didn't love it. There was something wanting about the sauce and I thought the grits weren't creamy enough. It seems like a cool place to get a relaxed meal and have some good beers. Worth a stop by if you're in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

I was working late when my co-worker asked me what are we having for dinner. I said something healthy since I am trying to get sexy for my favorite holiday of the year...HALLOWEEN!! So she suggested Half Shells. Looked over their to-go menu...and they had a salmon salad with little crunchys and some dressing. I said that sounds good. So one of my other co--workers went to get it for us....so I didnt get to judge their service. My salad looked very yummy....and it was. I had to put lemon on my salmon and put that sauce they gave all over the green stuff. It had a different taste...almost like a creamy vinegarette. It was tasty...and the salmon was good too. I will have to try their fish tacos the next time....those looked delicious!! Satisfied my hunger....yes...but I dont think the salad was worth 15 bucks. read more

If you like Fish City you'll love this place. Hmmmm.... I wonder why! It's located in the Shops At Legacy and its a seafood restaurant at a reasonable price. The mahi mahi is great with sautéed spinach. The crawfish are ok. The crab legs are great. The gumbo and red beans are edible but nothing to write home about. The place is small and you might have a bit of a wait.... but it's worth making a visit. Again, compared to other places in that area (that cost $$$$$$), it's sexy on your wallet! read more

We visit Shops at Legacy often for our evening dining. Love the atmosphere & service at Half Shells. The crab bisque is my favorite.

One of my favorites at the Shops at Legacy! The food is delicious but not too pricey. The service is always friendly yet not over the top. And even on a Sat. night the wait isn't too bad. The atmosphere is laid back and my order has always been accurate (which rarely happens in my case). read more

Excellent, attentive service. Had fried pickles and crab legs galore, huge portions, perfectly steamed so I could crack it by hand without utensils, like a savage! It's small, the tables are too close together, a little loud - but the food's so good, you won't care. read more

The best crawfish I have ever had. All the food was very good, small restaurant with a fun vibe inside, drinks and desserts were great. I deducted 2 stars because the food was not delivered together. Half of the table got their entree and could not wait for the remaining plates as they were fish. It took a while before the other 4 entrees finally arrived and one dish while still very good was incorrect. Still worth a future revisit. read more

I NEVER order Oysters. I happened to taste their Chargrilled oysters at a promotional holiday event and it left me wanting more! So we came back here one Friday night for date night. I ordered the plate of 6 Chargrilled Oysters- which were delicious and flavorful- great for those who don't like raw oysters. My husband ordered the Fish and Chips which came with hush puppies and was so so. Do not order the bread pudding, which at 6 bucks a pop was terrible. Undercooked in the center and floating in syrup that looked like dishwater - we barely ate the edges off it. Come here for the Oysters and full bar. Especially $2 Oysters at happy hour. Skip the dessert. read more

An old friend of mine and I were having a beer in The Shops at Legacy and walked around looking for a place to eat, last night. We wanted some seafood, so we decided to head into Half Shells. Even though I have been to the Shops a million times, I had never eaten at Half Shells. Boy, have I been missing out! We walked in and were seated, immediately. We were greeted right away by a very friendly server who asked us if this was our first time there. We told her it was and then she went to grab our drinks. Within a couple of minutes, the manager was at our table with some sample oyster nachos and some soup samples. The soups were amazing. Especially, the crab bisque. In fact, I had to get a full cup of that after trying it. Amazing. So were the oyster nachos. Light and packed with flavor. The meals and apps were outstanding. I absolutely loved the crab-stuffed flounder and the cheese grits were sinful and fantastic. Everything we had was great. Overall, great experience. I will be back... read more

I ordered the crab bisque, which had pretty good flavor but would have been even better with bigger pieces of crab. I tried some of the gumbo and it was also good with a little kick of heat. So I was really excited for my entree. I ordered fried catfish and blackened shrimp with rice and cheese grits. The catfish was fried hard the way I like it, but lacked in any flavor. Same with the shimp, cooked perfectly but no flavor. The rice and grits didn't stand out. Our server and greeter at the door were very friendly. I also liked the cajun seafood camp decor. Overall the food was just OK, but a good experience overall. read more
