Food is just not good. Service wasn't bad, wasn't great either. Kinda disappointed was really excited to try it.

Halfshells where they charge what ever they would like each time you come in. I order tiplia with two sides was $11.99 a few weeks ago then $12.99 Now $14.99 for tiplia I get market price but for tiplia that a lot. Service has always been great no issue there but with the fluctuating prices I dont come for price I come for food thats ridiculous. Plea we e have steady prices. read more

Excellent service and excellent food. The seafood platter was on point. Daniel was a great server and he was very responsive to our requests and very patient. You can tell Brian (Mgr) runs a tight ship because the restaurant is spotless. When management is not afraid to bus tables and wipe down surfaces you know they lead by example. The staff is constantly moving with a purpose and playing multiple roles. We don't come here often enough but we will. Their old fashioned and thyme gimlet was also very very good. read more

This was a first time experience thanks to Yelp. It was a great experience. I went here with my sweetie after church on Sunday. The food options are good. The atmosphere is laid back. I appreciated the soup tasting and the sample of the signature fried oyster on a corn chip topped with peco de gallo. I had the crabs with no veggies. It did quench my crab craving. I was not disappointed. My sweeties food was gone in two point two so we both enjoyed it. The key lime pie was pretty good as well. I would highly recommend. We plan to visit again soon. read more

I'm not a big seafood person but overall, had a pretty good experience here. The crabs are good here. I am reviewing this more on the gumbo. I got the bowl size, which is like "regular." Personally, I would prefer a more seafood type of gumbo. This one had chicken, shrimp, and sausage. I was hoping they had like mussels and clams but I settled anyways. Oysters are average here. Not the best but not the worst. Still enjoyable. I think we end up getting the Gulf Coast ones. Warning - it can get VERY busy on a Friday or Saturday night. Reserve ahead! read more

Half Shells Seafood Grill - Dozen Gulf Coast Oysters! - Seafood Near Me - Plano, Texas

Mid-week for dinner, not too busy. We were seated near the kitchen, but traffic in and out was not intrusive. Our server was quick to go over the menu and specials for these first-timers. Noise levels were relatively quiet for the number of guests. I had jalapeño bacon redfish tacos (3) and enjoyed every bite. Oysters are a big part of the options. We had some fried oyster tacos as a starter. Very tasty. Overall an excellent rxpe read more

Okay this is the second time writing this review cuz me being the genius I am......I accidentally deleted everything I typed on my phone. Because of that reason this review is going to go fast so hang on......this is gonna be a quick ride cuz I'm sitting on my podnuh's patio enjoying a good cigar and a fine libation as I rewrite this review. This joint was great and we were seated fairly quickly even though they were very busy with a large Friday night crowd. I had the seafood platter which consists of fried shrimp, oysters, and I think that was tilapia cuz it didn't look like catfish. Everything was fried to a beautiful golden brown and tasted as good as it looked! Nice crisp crunch on the outside with a nice moist center. Yes'n deed! My memory is fading fast as I sip on this libation and this cigar is multiplying the affects. I can't recall what everyone else had but I do remember everyone was in a festive mood and said they enjoyed their food. The star of the night was a new oyster appetizer the restaurant was allowing patrons to sample. That ish was delicious! We asked if they could send more to our table and they obliged our request! Kudos to the staff for they were great and salvaged our evening relative to dining. This is an excellent place to dine!!! Man this cigar is good!!! read more

Super friendly environment - staff really seemed to care and were very personable. The crowd of people there were very chill, and the ambience was lively but not too loud. It definitely had a small town feel, which is hard to find around Legacy. The Serafin tacos were amazing and very flavorful and filling! The herb crusted cod was good but the mashed potatoes and asparagus were kind of cold and it definitely could have used more sauce. The service was great though, and our waitress was very sweet and helpful. read more

I mentioned that this was my first time and they brought me the Welcome Wagon! It was a sample of all their soups and a fried oyster on a chip with pico de Gallo. It was amazing and I must say that all of their soups are delicious!!! I chose the gumbo before trying them all and it was amazing. The crab bisque is really rich but would be good topped on French bread bowl. For my entree I had the crawfish etoufee and it was very filling and it was tasty! I will definitely come back and have more! Great place to have a drink and dinner for sure! The music is jazz and a little loud but really yummy! Bri and kathryn are great bartenders! read more

We had excellent food and service in a great setting Will be going back. Crab Bisque

I came In to get a to go order, ordered 1 bowl of gumbo, 1 bowl of New England clam chowder and a grilled chicken meal with veggies. The New England clam chowder was really good, but the one at capital grille is still my favorite. My husband said everything else was good! Nothing to complain about, I will definitely be back to try more. Good prices too. read more

Good price for crawfish and the amount of potatoes and corn were good as well but seasoning was subpar. Wasn't nearly as spicy as other crawfish places. read more

A nice neighborhood restaurant for our family. The food and service are always great! I always get the same exact thing... blackened shrimp with rice and veggies. The people are friendly, quick service and the food is really good. They also have daily specials on the chalkboard. read more

Chargrilled oysters and prickly pear margarita is a must!! Great food & service. Will return!

I had Oysters (East coast - 6 raw and 6 char grilled), Clam Chowder cup and grilled Sword Fish with Asparagus and Garlic wilted Spinach ( the dish comes with mashed potato, but you can replace any of the sides with your choice) ( Sword fish is not on the menu, its from today's special listed on the blackboards). The raw oysters were really good, I had the Canadian ones, as Akina, the bar tender suggested, but the char-grilled oysters blew my mind out.. It had perfect grilled flavour with cheesy and buttery taste yet the oyster meat was juicy and not hardened by the heat. The clam chowder was creamy, and there were a lot of clam meat in it instead of lot of potatoes which generally the other places have. The Swordfish was okay, but it tasted particularly good with garlic wilted spinach.. but for that the credit goes to me. With the bland taste of that fish I'm not sure how it would go with mashed potatoes. The small ginger slices along with peaches made the dish interesting, but I'll not call it great. Overall nice experience, and it didn't burn a hole in my pockets. Definitely I'll visit them next time. read more

I have been here plenty of times, the food varies from good to bad. They are pretty inconsistent in their quality of food. I was craving seafood, so though of revisiting this place, ordered their 32.99$ pan seared sea bass piccata, it was the most expensive item on the menu. The server recommended it to me, and based on what she said i was ready to be blown over. The food that came out is definitely not worth the money, had exactly two shrimps, some spinach not wilted completely, very underwhelming risotto. Not worth the money, so please beware. The only reason i came back was because this place is literally steps away from where i stay and because i love seafood. Time to look for another place.. read more

We walked into this place on a sunny afternoon. Got seated rightaway.  Ordered the blackened rainbow trout with veggies and rice. Did not like the rice at all and the fish had no flavor. My hubby ordered the selection of the day - red fish with butter sauce. He told me he it was ok. Bread pudding is not worth at all, it was a bowl of hot lumpy bread in a soupy sugary mess. Overall this place is ordinary, nothing special. read more

Food was great, we had the gumbo, red beans and rice, crab bisque and oyster nachos. Everything was great and very fresh tasting. When my grandmother says 'add this one to our returning rotation' you know it's great, she's a hard lady to please. Also, the service was wonderful!! Our waiter let us try the jalapeño soup (great by the way) and after we finished the manager stopped by and my grandmother told him we'd be back and she had to try the shrimp tacos, but since they're a special he insisted we try one and glad we did, exceptional! My grandmother said 'I'll be back before these go off the menu!!!'. Can't wait to go back. read more

Came here because the first 5 reviews are all raving about this place, I regret that I didn't look down further. Man, what an underwhelming experience, and a total let down to my Friday night outing. Gumbo, super salty, and tastes like they just put a whole bunch of liquid smoke into this. Perhaps they burnt the roux and just kept it moving. Pass. Calimari, was piping hot and fresh on the top. Probably the best dish we've ordered, but there's nothing under the calimari, so as soon as you're done with the nice top pieces, the ones on the bottom are just in a pool of oil. Gross. Fish and chips, meh, it was whatever. Fish tacos, meh, it had a nice sauce but other than that, tasted no different than a Fuzzy's fish taco. Service was pretty lacking for this price point. Can't believe I just dropped $70 in this spot for what I ate. I can only say it's this poppin' because it's at the Shops at Legacy. read more

Went here with a couple friends while on a business trip. We stayed at the Cambria, and tried several restaurants at the Legacy. We really enjoyed our dining experience here. Service was great! If I could give half-stars, I would have given it 3.5 stars. The food was decent and service was good. I went at lunch and was going to work with my laptop, eat and have a drink in the bar area but was disappointed they didn't have wifi. I hashed the waitress and she said the owner doesn't believe in having wifi in the restaurant and wants people to talk to each other. As I look around, I see everyone on their phones anyway. Oh well, decent place but lots of good places around. read more

I went to this restaurant. I was a little nervous because the previous reviews were mixed. But, I had an awesome experience from the second I walked in. The manager seated us and asked if we have ever been there before. When we told him no, he brought us samples of 5 different soups and the famous oyster nachos. There is nothing spectacular about this place, however the service was great and the food was pretty good too. Everything was pretty inexpensive especially for the area. I would definitely go back. The manager was awesome!!! read more

My boyfriend took me here for some seafood last night and it really surpassed expectations! First of all, we were asked if we were first timers and after answering yes, the waiter brought out samples for us to try. They gave us small little sample cups of all the different soups and a sample of their oyster nachos. 3 out of the 5 soups did not impress much but the crab bisque and clam chowder WOW. Can't say I've had much crab bisque before, but this one was super creamy and had this taste that hit you at the end of every spoonful. I've had my fair share of clam chowder soups that were good, but this one was super creamy and just super delicious. I keep thinking about it even now and craving it! So we ended up getting a bowl of crab bisque soup and a bowl of clam chowder soup. Definitely satisfied. We also got the crispy calamari appetizer. The dipping sauce was good but it honestly tasted like any other fried calamari and we wished there was more for the price that we paid. Also, I had never tried fresh oysters before so my boyfriend decided to order some for me to try. So I can't compare it to other places since I've never had it, but it tasted really good here! The taste was fresh and they gave us sauce and horse raddish to put on top. Overall, well made quality food for the most part and good service as well. I would definitely come back again, especially to have more of their soup! read more

Chargrilled oysters are amazing. Service was excellent. Food came out quickly. Everything was great. And drinks were good

One of my favorite weekly lunch time spots. Just about everything on the menu is good. My personal favorites....... Serafins fish tacos Pecan crusted shrimp spinach salad Salmon salad Blackened tilapia The service is great and here's a tip, if you're there solo and in a rush don't hesitate to sit at the bar. I also like the fact they keep a copy of the Dallas Morning News there to occupy your time while eating. The prices are good too with most items around $10 or so. read more

My wife and I went here with some friends. The place was pretty busy but the service was excellent. The fried pickles weren't that great. The batter wasn't very good and the pickles were a bit soggy. Maybe they didn't fry them long enough. I had the grilled tilapia and my wife had the crab stuffed shrimp. Both meals were excellent, plus the prices are really reasonable. We've found a new place to get our seafood fix. read more

I feel quite lucky to select this Half Shells for our closing night in Plano, Texas. After a week of team dinners in quite a "tight" and "posh" restaurants, this restaurant felt much more genuine to the atmosphere in our team, and to our great team mood. When new friends were joining during the dinner (even one friend with the whole family), it was not at all a problem for our welcoming waiters. And the food was amazing! We selected almost all Starters from the menu and shared them as a group. Oyster Nachos (bruscetta-style), Crab Cakes and Fried Dill Picles still dwindle in my taste memory, yay! I have continued with a Roasted Jalapeno Soup (wish I had asked for a recipe, how that was good). And my Wild Salmon with Mashed Potatos was fantastic as well. I have to admit that to Margie and Piot, the Cheesy Grits with the Fish were coming as a not-so-welcomed surprise. But on a positive note, they serve a NZ Sauvignon Blanc there, my favorite white wine :) So give it a try. Enjoy! I will definitely be back again :) read more

I came here specifically for boiled crawfish yesterday. When the waitress told me they ran out I was heart broken. So, to make me feel better, I decided to order a hot bowl of gumbo as an appetizer. It was good, but I like my gumbo's texture to be a bit lighter. I then ordered the pecan crusted trout with mixed veggies and rice. The trout was seasoned very well. The rice was really good but the veggies could have been cooked a little more for softness. I had some of the baja crusted mahi mahi and it was bland to say the least. This dish came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were excellent. For two entrees and an appetizer our bill came out to $50 with a tip. Overall, the food was good, but I've experienced better. read more

Driving back from the Frisco/Little Elm/Prosper area on a house hunt, we stopped by the Shops at Legacy for some grub. I was in the mood for oysters, and something familiar, so Half Shells fit the bill. Saturday night dinner, Half Shells was packed, like every restaurant in the Shops at this time of night. We luckily got pub seats in the bar section and didn't have to wait in their tiny (i.e. non-existing) waiting area by the door. If you've ever been to Fish City Grill, then you can expect the same menu at Half Shells. Oyster nachos? Yep, they're here too and addicting as usual. Instead of trying out the blackboard specials, I went with a combo of blackened catfish and fried oysters this time. My man went with the shrimp and andouille mac and cheese, hyped plenty by our server Victor. The blackened catfish was executed well, and some of that seasoning made for tasty waffle fries. The fried oysters were TINY (same footprint as those on the nachos), and left me wanting for more. Cole slaw was unexpectedly tasty and fresh; just the right balance between cider vinegar and sweetness. My man loved his mac and cheese despite that I thought the cheese sauce wasn't as thick as I liked. He did critique the lack of cheesiness, but suggested the spice from the sausage made up for it. I thought the shrimp tasted like frozen old shrimp, but again, my man had no complaints. We finished dinner with an order of bread pudding and a house special chocolate mousse cake. We both agreed the mousse cake was unexpectedly gooey, moist and very tasty. I was again underwhelmed by the bread pudding--it seems the I can't learn my lesson with this chain. While composed of the right texture and softness, the flavors were just overall too bland to be worth the memories or calories. Despite a very busy Saturday night and some lapses in refills, Victor stayed charming and cheerful when he waited on us. Overall, a good stop for dinner. read more

Half Shells Seafood Grill - 1 dozen gulf coast for $17.99 (Non happy hour) - Seafood Near Me - Plano, Texas

This is a place that I forget about a lot - the interior is pretty lack-luster (they are trying to go for a New Orleans theme and kind of failing). The bar staff isn't very quick or with it either. Otherwise, most of the seafood dishes and boils are reminiscent of a Joe's Crab Shack. Not that it isn't pretty good, but its not mindblowing. And kind of expensive for the experience you get. However, if you do find yourself stopping in here for a bite - let it be the Oyster Nachos. Totally amazing. Make sure you put cholula on them. read more

My wife and I went in around 4pm today. Greeted courteously by hostess - we asked to sit at the bar & it went downhill from there..... My wife said Bartender shot hostess a look = not digging us sitting at the bar. (don't know why but maybe what follows explains...) Bartender NOT friendly....not mean just....blah. Took our order and that was last we heard from her...she was busy reviewing receipts and other bar maintenance stuff. Maybe explains the "don't seat them here!" - look. Another employee stepped in after our food was served & per our request - hustled us some Tartar Sauce (btw...their Tartar Sauce Sucks). She was slightly more attentive than the complete ignore we were getting previously...but never asked if we needed a drink refill ...we had to ask for small plates (we were sharing a dish)...didn't ask if our food was okay (I'm guessing cause she already knew the answer = NO!) We ordered the "Pick 2 Combo" - Shrimp and Oysters. This is how it came out = 3 overcooked and dry Butterfly Shrimp - each wing the size of a pinky finger. 3 overcooked Oysters - each about an inch but less than 2 inches with more breading than Oyster. A cup of Slaw, some half warm Waffle Fries & a few burned Hush Puppies. My wife said the dish should be titled = "Waffle Fries with a side of Seafood Popcorn a cup of Slaw & some burned Shoes." This place sucks. Not going Back. read more

Stopped in on early Wednesday night with another couple & expected to find it empty - WRONG! it was almost full and there is a reason - It is GREAT PLACE with excellent service - very unhurried even though the place filled completely up! When we asked our server about the specials & the chowders/bisques our server immediately offered to bring out samples! Wow! We were sole on the Oyster Nachos, Lobster Bisque & Clam chowders - cups ordered all around! I had the Stuffed Sole (stuffed with shrimp/crap) and it really was tasty & fresh! Others had the seared salmon dish and also raved about that! Watch out for the desserts as the size of the very tasty bread pudding was HUGE! We will definitely be back as this place is a WINNER! read more

A few years ago, I lived at The Shops at Legacy and Half Shells was my favorite place to eat and hang out. I went in last week and sat at the bar...asked the bartender if she could make me a Peartini (which I've ordered there many many times), she quickly responded "I don't have the ingredients to make it." I said, "Okay", was about to ask for the drink menu and she walked away. She never offered anything, never smiled, was completely disinterested. She didn't even greet me when I sat down at the bar. I got up, walked across the street to Sambuca and had the total opposite experience... a delicious Peartini served by a delightful bartender. Today, I went into Half Shells for crab legs and silently said a little prayer hoping the same bartender wasn't there...she was. Same disinterest, but she did make me a Peartini this time...food was good, but the service and atmosphere was very uninviting. So disappointed! read more
