We only stopped here for the tableside s'mores as we really enjoy doing that back home. They simply set out a lil' fire with some packaged hersheys and graham crackers, but we're spoiled with a lil' better atmosphere back home where they plate in-house made crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. Overall: Terrible, inattentive service + old food. I have no idea how this place has such good reviews. I walked in this morning around 9:30, saw the sign that said "have a seat at the bar and we'll take your order" took a menu and sat at the end of an almost empty, but coffee cup covered bar. Four staff members stood at the other end of the bar chatting and drinking coffee. I sat there for nearly 15 minutes without anyone so much as glancing at me before finally walking over and asking if it would be possible to order. I was informed that the smoothie machine was broken, but I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and lox. Two of the staff members disappeared and the other two actually began to pay attention to the other customers in the shop. I was brought my bill and a cup of water, and then a little while later my bagel- which came with all the toppings on the side- and a fork, but no knife for the cream cheese. I made my bagel after getting up and requesting a knife. Disappointingly but unsurprisingly, the bagel was stale and the lox had dried out on the edges and was much saltier than usual. I don't live in Austin, but if I did it would be safe to say I would never visit again. read more

This place is really good for desserts and just the overall atmosphere. It's downtown and open late which are both positives, and it really is the cutest place ever! The most popular option here is the s'mores and they really set it up well. I tried the Nutella crepe which while nothing amazing, didn't disappoint. WIPE THE TABLES.. that's all you have to do to earn at least another 2 stars. This is generally a very good coffee bar, but a serious gripe here... I tip generously, but in the case of Halcyon it's not a tip - it's charity - they do the absolute minimum to get my order from the bar to the table (if even that far). The food is decent but they already charge plenty enough for it... the service on the other hand - pathetic, non-existant, a real insult to the amount of pride that gossips behind the bar. So for the staff at Halcyon, here's my biggest tip.. if the extra line reads "WFT" - it means you lost a few bucks because you didn't Wipe the Freaking Tables! read more

Halcyon is my go-to place to get work done during the afternoon. I can always find a place to sit down and spread out a bit. It's not exactly "quiet" but I'm the kind of person that craves a bit of background noise to focus. They have great lattes and the noms are yummy too (greek hummus wrap, holla). The staff isn't exactly that excitable but they are all decent and generally helpful human beings. What I also like about Halcyon is that I can come here for cocktails in the early evening for a chill atmosphere to relax before going out (or going home). It's an all-in-one place so if you have friends that smoke, lead them here for a great cigarette selection. read more

Just a very weird clientele and some more... Went this morning paid 17 dlls for 2 coffees one granola and one sandwich.. Food= meh, american coffees= 3x meh... Atmosphere= wtf!!! One musician with rock jacket and hat, drinking @8am and acting funny, a lot of interesting people using the bathroom and not ordering anything, other sitting without ordering and acting "weird"...I dont mind if you are whatever, just the behavior it was so sketchy.. This isn't my favorite new place to study downtown but its not bad either. It has a very unique crowd, more Cali than Texas. And its kind of cool that you can either grab a coffee, latte or booze on the rocks if you choose. I guess the only thing that is tough is how crowded this place gets at times. We stopped in, since my husband loves cigar bars. We spent hours on the patio people watching. I was drinking Real Ale Fireman's #4, while he enjoyed Crown Royal on the rocks and a smoke. We had a killer lightning storm to keep us entertained too. Service was a bit slow, but they were open late, even on Thursday. So, that was great. read more

Came for some Sunday s'mores and coffee. I got the Guatemala pour over which was strong, and delicious. Nice seating areas. There were lots of younger couples/students here. Not a problem, just an observation. The s'mores were a fun experience. Definitely worth bringing a friend here if they are visiting to have a cup of coffee and a catch up chat before going about your day. 4 stars though because other chocolate options would have been appreciated. One of the best coffee shops to spend an afternoon. Feel free to bring your laptop, as they offer free Wi-Fi as is standard these days. The coffee is par - what is really worthwhile are the sandwiches. The egg sandwich is huge and cheesy, capable of satisfying any level of hunger. read more

I really enjoyed the attentive and friendly morning crew. I don't usually make it past noon (got to go back to work) but the staff in the morning always has a smile on their faces. This gets my day off to a great start. So thanks a bunch ya'll for being so positive. However, no amount of friendly service can make up for the sub-standard coffee they are held hostage to serve. The staff here are very well trained and do their best, but I think what is making the taste an issue is the quality of the materials they have to work with. Get a different supplier or fix the machines...DO SOMETHING. I can't complain about the service, but no one can make lemonade from god-aweful lemons no matter how much sugar you add! The atmosphere is very inviting and the music is just right (not too loud) in the mornings. Its usually classical or something soothing. This changes at noon or thereabouts. read more

This place has honest-to-God s'mores. Absolutely awesome. Very chill place, easy to hang out in, very tasty. I don't remember it being too expensive, I was pretty happy I think. Probably one of the best hang-out type spots I've ever been to, Halcyon is one of of those places with a bit of something for everyone - great bar, great coffee, nice selection of snacks. Their excellent selection of premium liquors is quite impressive, and the staff is just great - relaxed, but helpful and fun.
