I liked The Halal Corner better than Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet. The cashier said she thinks the owners are Jordanian Muslims. There were framed pictures of Petra decorating the wall. The beef shawarma was different than what I've had in Israel, but still delicious. The mint tea wasn't what I've had in Morocco. They used a tea bag instead of loose gunpowder tea leaves and didn't add sugar. At least they added fresh mint leaves, just like they do in Morocco. They had forgotten my buddy's order who ordered before us, and had to expedite his order after my husband and I had received our food. Yalla, yalla! read more

Terrible customer service, took way too long to get our food when we were the only table there on a Monday night. Employees seem like they do whatever they want. Yum! I had about 30 mins to kill so I decided to try here. First off, I smelled it from across the street, and it smelled delicious! I ordered the Creamy Jalapeño Beef Shawarma, which came with a salad and rice. Everything was flavored beautifully, meat was moist and we were happy customers. This is my second time coming here. The food is pretty good. We brought some picky kids whose tastes are accustomed to mcdonalds and other trash food but they loved the fried cauliflower with ketchup. My complaint is that there is a strong smell of floor cleaner every time I've come in. I hate restaurants that smell like this. Not only do I have to inhale toxic chemicals, I want to smell delicious food, but the chemical smell is do strong. :( Please add more water to your mop bucket. read more

3.5/5 I'm a big fan of halal food and I'm always looking forward to eating at Halal Bros. I decided to try Halal Corner awhile ago to see how other halal restaurants compared to my go to. I was not disappointed and enjoyed this place a decent amount! I got the P2 with the combination meat. I feel like they do their meat a little differently texture-wise compared to Halal Bros, but it was still good. Although I liked their food, I feel like the portion size must be a lot smaller even though their container size is bigger. Usually when I get Halal Bros, it's a struggle to finish the whole thing and if I'm not that hungry, I could probably split it into three meals. But I basically finished the whole plate at Halal Corner! Overall, in terms of quality and flavor, I don't think Halal Corner will become my new go to. I also don't know if it's as worth it if the portion size is so much smaller but at a similar price to other places. I wouldn't mind coming here in the future though if I happened to be nearby! read more

The food here won't disappoint you. If you like Halal Guys or Halal Bro's, you'll like The Halal Corner. I tried P1 and P2, both of which give you a lot of meat, a lot of rice, enough veggies, and definitely enough sauce. Everything is definitely fresh here, and I was very happy to see that the pricing was pretty cheap compared to other Halal places. My only complaint is that the quantity of food is less than pictures show. It's not a big problem because you'll probably be full, but considering the large circular container, I felt slightly tricked by the amount of food I received. For comparison, I can barely fit 3/4th of a Halal Bro's bowl in my stomach, but I could finish the entire bowl at The Halal Corner, despite the larger container size. Other than that, I enjoyed my tasty meal in a very clean and open restaurant. The pricing is cheaper than others Halal locations, so despite the smaller portions in comparison to other Halal restaurants, you'll be very satisfied with your experience! read more

Food is great, take out service is terrible. We placed a large order with sauce on the side because the drive home with traffic is 30 minutes and we didn't want the food to get soggy. When we got home, we realized they didn't give us any sauce on our dishes or on the side. I'm eating a dish called creamy jalapeño plate without the creamy jalapeño. When we called to complain they said we could come back for the sauce (no thanks) or the next time we come in they would give us something for free (there may not be a next time). I visit Halal Corner for lunch about once a month, since I work close by. I always order the P1 or P2 plate, which includes meat or veggie of choice over rice with salad and sauce drizzled on top. I always take my order to go, so I don't see the food until I return to my office. I've given great reviews in the past (5 stars), as the food has always been delicious and reasonable priced. This time, my food was drenched in sauce. It was covered to the point where you almost couldn't see anything underneath. I had to take paper towels and try to blot some of it off just so I could salvage some of the meal, because otherwise it was inedible. I don't know if they have a new cook, they were rushing and weren't paying attention, or what. But this is an issue they really need to address if other customers experience the same and it happens consistently. Next time, I'll ask for the sauce on the side. read more

Duuuuude. One of my favorite places to get middle eastern food here. Second only to Halal Bros (or Guys... I can never remember their name) on campus, or Kebabalicious. And it's closer to home, in the Mueller shopping center. I order the P1 with chicken shawarma. I love that creamy jalapeño sauce and their red sauce is spicy as hell. Mihir gets the P2 (the yogurt sauce) with falafel. The rice is out of this world. I am really not a rice fan at ALL and i could eat mountains of this stuff. It's like the perfect meal - moist, spiced meat, delicious spiced rice, and a fresh, crisp salad. All covered in a creamy sauce. The hummus is great, too. We always get a side of that with pita. Halal Bros (or Guys?) still has the best hummus i've had so far, but this stuff is decent and i don't know if anything beats that P1 with chicken! I came here a couple of weeks a go and I must say my food experience was sub par. I didn't even finish it as well as a other person in my group. I decided to try a new place after deviating from usual spot if the same cuisine, Halal Bros. My meat was dry, the white sauce wasn't anything special, the hot sauce was very spicy as previous reviews has said. I was really disappointed that half of my container consistent of salad. On this case it wouldn't have matter, because more food wouldn't have made it taste better, but compared to Halal Bros where for about $8 the food tastes better and you get more rice and meat so this was disappointing. I hate to give low reviews, because I understand how hard it is to have a business, but for me this wasn't good experience. I actually got a headache and felt nauseous soon after. Great new restaurant in Mueller market district! Owned and operated by same owners as Kismet Cafe (Guadalupe and 24th), which has existed for over 20 years. Atmosphere is very chill and casual and the manager/employees are friendly. Their outdoor seating is a great place to eat and enjoy the nice weather. Very well priced for the amount of food you get. Everything I saw on the menu is under $10! Plates come with a side of sesame hummus, cucumber and tomato salad, and a pita bread. I got the combination beef/lamb gyro & chicken over rice. The rice is well spiced and the meat has exactly the flavor I love. The sesame hummus is some of the best homemade hummus I have had. The spicy sauce is made in-house, and in addition to the great flavor, it would make even the most hardened spicy-food-enthusiast's eyes water! Get the Basbousa (sweet cake) for a delicious dessert. It has a buttery taste, sweetened with honey and flavored with coconut and vanilla. Overall, I give this place 5 stars because of the good food and the good people making it. Of course, the question regarding halal in Austin is usually--is it as good as or better than Halal Bros? And yes, I think so. Not by much, I dare say, but definitely good. So good that I'm currently craving it right now just writing this review. There are a couple of things about Halal Corner that makes it just slightly better than Halal Bros. For one, when I replace my veggies with rice, the dish is freakishly big and over filling. Halal always fills me up, but maybe it's just psychology playing with my head--I really feel like the circular platters give you more food. For two, they give you the option of Jalapeño Cream sauce or White Sauce. I would say to opt for the first option because it's a little nuttier and spicier, and has an all around slightly different taste you can't get at Halal Bros. For three, the red sauce is so much better and spicier. HB's red sauce just tastes like Asian Chili Garlic sauce, which is good but kind of whatever at the same time. HC's red sauce is where it's at (ask for extra if spiciness is your thing.) Last but not least, HB has this strange spice/nut/seed that always manages to ruin the dish for me the moment I bite into it. I never once came across that taste in HC. That's a winner in my book. Obviously, the choice is yours, but I do highly encourage you to give Halal Corner a chance if you're ever in the area. Great place, will be back. (And if you ask why not five stars? Well, it was good but not blow your mind away amazing. Gotta save your stars and pride for those instead.) read more

This is some fantastic Mediterranean food at a very reasonable price. Don't be turned off by its somewhat drab location sharing a parking lot with a mattress store and Home Depot. The service was very friendly and was helpful in suggesting some fan favorites. We were pleased with the portion size, great value! They have a wide variety of other things as well, like wraps and meat plates and I've been trying to will myself to try them, but I'm hooked on their rice entree's for now... What I really like is their generous portion of veggie mix. It wasn't my first time getting halal but it was for my girlfriend and they offered her a rather generous sample. I've had halal from NYC and The Halal Corner definitely beats it. Cheap! Fast! Tasty! I can only speak to the vegetarian options, but the falafel was excellent and the cauliflower was to DIE for. Can I just get a giant bowl of the cauliflower? Next time I'm going to ask. I've been on a cauliflower kick lately, and I thought nothing could beat the roasted cauliflower with parmesan I make at home, but this stuff is like crack. The Halal Corner is conveniently located right across Home Depot at Mueller. There was tons of parking, so you don't have to worry about that. The place is set up to where you'd order at the counter and pick up when your number is called. Although my encounter with the cashier was brief, she seemed generally happy to be working there, which is a good sign. I got the beef shwarma wrap here and I'd give it a 4. Although the pita wrap was a little hard and not as soft as I'd like, I gobbled up the whole wrap in 10 minutes. Maybe it was because I took a trip here after the gym? Who knows, but I thought the flavors were on point. It wasn't too salty or bland. It brought back memories of eating at Kismet Cafe on West Campus at 11PM when I would be starving and nothing was open. Flavors are similar and tasty.
