    Loaded Gyro
    Brianna W.

Needed something for a quick dinner. I got the loaded gyro and it wasn't all that big, it said it came with fries but I only identified 3 fries and didn't have as many toppings as I've had at other places. It was very fast service and prices are okay. It's just very mediocre, nothing made it stand out. The hot sauce was also very hot and I have a medium to low spice tolerance

Great tasting food for good price. Located in the Barbara Jordan shopping plaza, I came here on a rainy night when I didn't feel like cooking. I opted for the platter with beef shawarma that came with a delicious white sauce, rice, salad, and pita. The portion was large enough for probably 2 meals and the meat was delicious and paired wonderfully with the white sauce. Ordered ahead on line so the food was read immediately when I came but the location is a bit hidden in a corner and their lights for their sign were off so it was a bit hard to find, but nonetheless a great meal!

This place defines the phrase "some of the best food you find is in hole in the wall places". This one of mine and my coworkers favorite places to eat. Our food is always consistently good and the service is quick.I usually get the P21 crazy plate and vary the toppings I choose. The beef, chicken and fried cauliflower are always great on this rice a d salad plate. The sauces are scrumptious. Today I also tried the creamy jalapeño salad with chicken added. It was delicious! Don't let the looks of the place scare you away. If you do you'll miss out. (Oh and hilariously, they have clip on bidet attached to their toilets!)

First visit, they don't warm their pitas unlike most other places, so when you order a wrap the pita cracks and the fillings all come falling out. Disappointing, will likely not go back.

    Uber receipt. No falafel delivered.

I normally order from Kismet Cafe in Hancock Center since it does a fantastic job for the price. I had a $20 off Uber Eats coupon and this one was the only place with that. Next time I will forgo the discount and pay more. Since the service and quality were not even 2 stars. I gave an additional star for the Uber Driver, who was fast and efficient, albeit missing items from the order. In the photo of the receipt you can see pretty decent deals for all the food. Unfortunately, what you don't see in the photo is the falafel. That is because it was missing. I'm not a big falafel fan, but my wife is and we always order 3 or 4 orders so we get a ton of falafel. So, you can imagine her disappointment, when no falafel. How does that even happen, especially when it states 4 orders? How do you miss that? Anyways, the other dishes were less than impressive. The kafta over rice was cold, lacked spices, and they skimped on the meat. The salad was nothing like the photo in their online menu. No onions, no tomatoes, just lettuce. The fried eggplant was not fried, but seemed like just mixed with oil. The shawarma wraps were Ok, but half the size and fillings of my go to Kismet Cafe. Don't know if they do this when delivering an order with almost 40% off, but this was just unacceptable.

My pic doesn't do this food justice! The crazy plate is amazing!! So much food and so much flavor! I always have leftovers because the portions are so large. The gyro meat is flavorful and plentiful. The sauces are all to die for. I get garlic sauce on the side sometimes and it's awesome. Green sauce is perfect, red sauce is spicy so be careful if you get extra. Food comes out super quick (took 3-5 min for our two meals). My only complaint is they are so skimpy with the red onions! I had one tiny piece in my meal. Would love the veggies to be balanced out

The wraps aren't that good. I had the gyro and chicken wrap. The meat wasn't seasoned, but the services was quick.

Came here on a late night whim and just wanted an appetizer of fried cauliflower and an order of loaded fries- no olives. Welp, I was not disappointed and my taste buds were pleasantly surprised. So surprised I returned to try the chicken shawarma and loaded fries (again). Do yourself the favor of hitting this place up!!!

An absolute gem. This family run business is consistent in taste and friendly service. We always order the P1. A pro tip, ask for 2 meats! You can get half chicken, gyro, or steak or kafta, etc. You won't be disappointed! For the flavor, portion size and price - this place is all time!

Updating my review after giving Aba a second chance about nine months later…read more I'm honestly really glad I came back. This time we went in knowing exactly what we liked from our first visit and focused on sharing appetizers, which ended up being the move. We ordered several dishes for the table and left completely full and happy. The whipped feta is still a must-order and every bit as good as I remembered. The Greek village salad was fresh and delicious, and the hummus was also great. The biggest surprise for me was the falafel. As an Arab, I'm usually pretty skeptical when restaurants outside of Middle Eastern spots serve falafel because it rarely lives up to expectations. Aba absolutely nailed it. It was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and one of my favorite dishes of the meal. We sat outside this time, which made for a really nice atmosphere. The service was also a huge improvement from my first experience. Even though the restaurant was busy, our waitress was incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the meal. I'm happy to say my opinion has completely changed since my first visit. Giving Aba another chance was definitely worth it, and it has officially earned a spot on my Austin rotation whenever I'm in town.

The beef tenderloin kebab and steak frites were both excellent, and the whipped feta was easily our favorite dish--definitely a must-order. My only complaint is that some of the portions felt small for the price. The Greek Village Salad wasn't worth it in my opinion; for about $20, it was mostly large chunks of tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and feta. Parking on South Congress can also be a bit of a hassle. Overall, the food and ambiance were great. I'd come back, but I wouldn't be rushing to do so.

The kebabs are the true highlight...juicy, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. The portions are quite large as the hubs and I shared a wrap. We were sufficiently full after eating the chicken tikka wrap. Interestingly, the wrap came in a Shawarma King packaging with their contact phone number. So, I assume that Usta staff are sub-contracting from Shawarma King. Usta also has freshly baked bread and classic sides like hummus and rice paired with the main dishes. The restaurant has a homey, lived in feel. It has a few middle eastern artifacts sprinkled throughout the restaurant. The menu offers a wide variety of options, from Iraqi and Adana kebabs to shawarma and traditional Middle Eastern plates, so there are food items for both first timers and regulars who want to explore beyond the basics. They also serve flatbreads where you can have two different toppings. The food focus is on bold, traditional flavors rather than modern takes on middle eastern foods. On the desserts front, they have an assortment of desserts and several sections of ice cream. I had the baklava, which was surprisingly delicious...it was not eye-squinting sweet like a standard baklava. It was crunchy, flavorful, and had nuts that were substantial. Layla, my server, was so super sweet and welcoming. She pointed out that Usta provides its customers free tea. How cool is that? I cannot remember last time I received a free drink.

Loro is an Asian smokehouse and bar featuring grilled and smoked meats with Southeast Asian and Japanese-inspired sauces, sides, and a bar that boasts craft beer, boozy slushees, and batch cocktails. Parking at this location is a bit of a challenge. They have overflow parking in the back but the spots are really small. We sat at the bar area and worked our way through cocktails, apps, and dessert. We opened a tab and the bar staff takes your order which is convenient, versus how you normally have to order by waiting in line at the bar. The bar staff was extremely busy because they have to make all the cocktails and take the line orders at the bar. They are a master of multitasking. It was $3 martini night on Tuesday, so was excited to sample the four different drink options. lychee martini, Mexican martini, and Lucky Cat cosmo martini. Lychee martini is made with new amsterdam vodka, sake, elderflower, Mexican martini with espolon blanco, olive, yuzu, lime and cosmo with vodka, blood orange, naranja, lime. The lychee was hands down my favorite of the three. We started with the Dip Sampler that included a trifecta of smoked shishito queso, smoked salmon dip and Thai green salsa with the Siete blue corn tortilla chips. We went through the chips quickly and got a second round of wonton chips which I preferred to the Siete chips. Tried the Mango Chamoy frozen Slushee with Siete Chamoy Botana Sauce & Siete Chile Lime Seasoning Rim, passionfruit, Aperol, Sake and Sparkling Wine which was refreshing. All their boozy slushies are $5 during happy hour. Ordered the oak grilled edamame from the happy hour menu and it was a flavor explosion with a dusting of serracha powder, lemon zest and white sesame. For dinner, I ordered my go-to rice bowl with coconut-scented rice, seasonal pickles, thai herbs and steak as the protein. They normally served this with Bavette, but the steak was a bit tough and chewy this time. Finished everything off with cheesecake with five spice crumble, yuzu marmalade for dessert. The vibe at the bar was relaxed and lively without feeling overwhelming, and the collab menu felt creative without trying too hard. The ingredients are very thoughtful for a fully developed flavor profile. Just what I would expect from the culinary minds of Tyson Cole and Aaron Franklin. Definitely one of the regulars in my list when craving good cocktails with a casual but elevated food menu.

Chicken karaage was what you would expect, similar to what you get at Japanese places. Portions are big. The sesame rice noodles were highly reviewed but kinda underwhelming. Sauce was surprisingly spicy and the sesame flavor wasn't super obvious. We also tried the rendang beans and rice, which was a creative spin.
