    Beef Arabi
    Brooke D.

Me and my boyfriend grabbed lunch from here this weekend and really enjoyed the food! The chicken and beef Arabi were both so so good! I think we both preferred the chicken though surprisingly. Both arabis had great flavor and the ingredients tasted very fresh. I loved their garlic sauce and orange sauce. Only complaint about the food was that our fries were not warm but I could tell they would be good when fresh. The service was a little chaotic and slow but the workers were so nice so I won't be docking any points there since I know they just opened recently and are probably still figuring some things out. Once they get their groove I think this will be one of the better Mediterranean trucks in Austin!

My partner is from Lebanon, and we have been on the search for quality Middle Eastern food. This was the best Middle Eastern food we have found in Austin yet. We ordered the Chicken Schwarma wrap, as well as the Beef Awarmi meal, and Turkish salad. The salad was surprisingly fresh with the most delicious flavoring from the many herbs. The Beef Awarmi meal was tasty with pickled turips, and a coleslaw that was so very unique (not your typical Americna coleslaw). Also the FRIES. I do not know what they sprinkle on for spices or how they prepare, but woa!! Highly recommend!

Food was filling, chicken was soft! Came with cream. Staff is very nice and friendly! Food was ready in five minutes. There was plenty seating and it was a calm environment, many students around and other food trucks neighborhing it.

(9/10 overall) Caution: Long, detailed review (and my life story) ahead! TLDR; the food is DELISH. So, one of my 2025 goals has been to find the best chicken shawarma in the Austin area. I know, SAD. But, I needed a focus so I didn't go completely insane. IYKYK. Plus, I got to visit with my awesome son, who delivered all these meals to me (for a handsome "tip", of course). Since I was "strongly encouraged" into early retirement (in the name of efficiency), I decided to spend a little of that sweet DRP money on something truly important: chicken shawarma research. Thanks, Space-boy! After trying many spots (maybe 20), I can officially say Al Shami is my favorite so far. I even ordered three different times just to be sure Note: The photos I'm sharing were taken at home (hence the fine china, AKA paper plates). I live about 30-45 minutes outside Austin, so I always order tons of extra food for the week. So just FYI, a few items got a quick air fryer refresh before their photo shoot. **See: "big back" videos on TikTok if you want to know what plays in my head while ordering $100 worth of chicken shawarma just for myself Chicken Shawarma Wrap - 9/10 Saj bread, about a foot long, crispy outside, tender, thin, spit-shaved chicken inside with pickles & garlic sauce. Simple and delicious. Pro tip: Get extra garlic and pomegranate sauce for generous dippsies. *I added extra shawarma this last time for $2 & it was huge! Chicken Shawarma Plate - 9/10 Came with bread (saj with a thin pita buffer inside), rice, pickles, and sauces. I used this meal to make a monster wrap the next day. Not sure if the bread automatically comes with this meal, but I requested it in the comment box. **The rice was the one thing here I wasn't too fond of. The consistency was good, but the flavor was odd. Maybe it's just me. Sauces - 10/10 All fantastic. * House sauce: Creamy mayo/BBQ vibe, amazing with the fries. * Garlic sauce: More like authentic toum - super garlicky and flavorful (take a Tums first because the garlic is garlicin'!). *This is not ranch-y or yogurt-y sauce. Those can both be tasty, but I prefer the one here. * Pomegranate molasses: To die for! One of the few Austin spots I've tried that has it. It's just 40¢, so grab a few - you'll thank me later. Chicken Tawook Wrap - 10/10 To my surprise, I liked this even more than the shawarma. I don't know what kind of sorcery is going on here, but these are tender, smoky, perfectly seasoned chunks of chicken breast, wrapped in soft, thin bread & dipped in a magical red sauce. I crisped mine up a little in the air fryer, but it's best eaten fresh b/c it's very juicy! Comes with finely chopped tomato and onion (kinda like pico), though I omitted that this last time for the sake of anti-sogginess. Plus, I can't have all those vegetables messing up my meal Chicken Tawook Plate - 10/10 Generous portion of tawook pieces (described above) with rice, charred onion & tomato, pickled veggies, coleslaw, sauces, and triangles of that red-dipped bread. I made mini wraps out of it the next day. Perfection! Can you tell I REALLY like wraps?? lol Fries - 8/10 First two visits were the thin "McDonald's-style" fries; the third had thicker ones. Both good! Pair with the house sauce. PS to Al Shami - I like the thin ones better. Thank you for your attention to this matter. (And yes, the ones in my photo look burnt -- that's on me, my air fryer, and ADHD). Chicken Halabi - 9/10 Chicken shawarma over fries with sauces, saj bread, pickled veggies, and slaw. Pretty much the shawarma plate with fries instead of rice. Location, ordering, etc: Downtown traffic and parking are a little "meh," but since my son picks it up for me, I don't personally have to deal with that. I'd still brave it myself if I had to though. They say they have curbside pickup, but we haven't utilized it. If you do, I recommend calling to make sure it's ready before showing up. Ordering is fast & easy on their website, but if you order right when they open (at 11am), give them some extra time to prepare your food, especially if you have a large order. Oh, and join the rewards program. I got $14 off my last order! I'll include a pic of my receipt showing the discounts. **Forgot to add that all 3 of my orders have been correct & complete. Final Verdict: 9/10 overall (or 5 stars for Yelp purposes) Delicious, consistent, and worth the drive. Whether you're team Shawarma or team Tawook, their food is Yum yum in your tum tum!

My first experience here and I have mixed reviews. While the chicken shawarma wrap looks fire , it lacks in flavor. I thought it would have onions, tomatoes and salad in it as it said while I was ordering. Secondly no option to pick your spice or heat level. I would have enjoyed it with some jalapeños or some authentic spicy sauce or something. But nothing. Good seems very bland. Also chicken seemed to be on the tough side but still edible. I eat Mediterranean foods all the time from all sorts of restaurants and food trucks and would like the option to pick my spice levels. Other than that people seemed super nice that were working at the truck. Will comeback agin to try it and hopefully it will be better next time. Good luck

I absolutely love the vibe of this place--it's definitely a high-end Mediterranean restaurant, perfect for special occasions. What really stood out was how beautifully everyone was dressed; it added to the upscale, elegant atmosphere of the entire space. The restaurant offers both indoor seating and a beautiful outdoor seating area, which really elevates the overall experience. The outdoor space, in particular, adds to the charm and makes it a great spot for a relaxed yet upscale evening. Since reservations weren't available, we decided to arrive early, expecting a long wait. Luckily, being a Sunday evening, it wasn't too crowded, and we were seated within about 20 minutes. For drinks, I ordered a Tender Robot Hazy IPA, while my husband went with the Verdant Mai Tai. I was a bit disappointed to learn they only serve canned beer and don't offer draft options, as I personally prefer draft beer and am not a big fan of cocktails, which tend to be too sweet for my taste. For the main course, I had the Heirloom Chicken Thighs, and my husband ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. Both dishes were cooked to perfection--flavorful, well-seasoned, and the meat was incredibly tender. That said, the portion sizes felt a bit small considering the price point. We ended the meal with the Sticky Date Cake, and it was hands down the best I've ever had--rich, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. Overall, we had a great experience. Between the beautiful ambiance, flavorful food, and exceptional service, it's a place I'd definitely return to. I'm giving it 4 stars mainly because of the lack of draft beer and the smaller portion sizes for the price, but it's still a fantastic spot worth visiting.

The kebabs are the true highlight...juicy, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. The portions are quite large as the hubs and I shared a wrap. We were sufficiently full after eating the chicken tikka wrap. Interestingly, the wrap came in a Shawarma King packaging with their contact phone number. So, I assume that Usta staff are sub-contracting from Shawarma King. Usta also has freshly baked bread and classic sides like hummus and rice paired with the main dishes. The restaurant has a homey, lived in feel. It has a few middle eastern artifacts sprinkled throughout the restaurant. The menu offers a wide variety of options, from Iraqi and Adana kebabs to shawarma and traditional Middle Eastern plates, so there are food items for both first timers and regulars who want to explore beyond the basics. They also serve flatbreads where you can have two different toppings. The food focus is on bold, traditional flavors rather than modern takes on middle eastern foods. On the desserts front, they have an assortment of desserts and several sections of ice cream. I had the baklava, which was surprisingly delicious...it was not eye-squinting sweet like a standard baklava. It was crunchy, flavorful, and had nuts that were substantial. Layla, my server, was so super sweet and welcoming. She pointed out that Usta provides its customers free tea. How cool is that? I cannot remember last time I received a free drink.

A couple of things to note: they charge a 10% online order service charge and a 3% credit card surcharge. When I got to the pickup window they asked if I wanted the food to go or dine in, and we chose to dine in so we could eat it fresh. They had to go containers available at the truck if you needed them. The portions looked small but were actually pretty filling. 1/2 lb Pomegranate and Za'atar Glazed Pork Ribs ($17): Came with 2 ribs that were okay. They were a little dry and lacking flavor on their own but tasted much better dipped in the pomegranate barbecue sauce. Combo Rice Bowl ($20): Came with mediterranean yellow rice, baladi salad, sauce, protein, cinnamon candied nuts, and pomegranate seeds. For the combo, you get to choose 2 proteins. I went with brisket and kofta (ground beef and lamb). Both were really good but a tad salty so the baladi salad helped balance that out. Egyptian Cowboy ($15): I chose lamb for this and it was the star of the show. The pulled lamb shoulder was incredibly tender and flavorful. The smoked mac and cheese was really good too but the rich bechamel was a bit much for us. The sumac pickled onions helped balance out the heaviness of both the mac and cheese and the lamb shoulder. Cardamom Pistachio Rice Pudding ($9.50): Pricey for rice pudding but I wanted to try the unique flavor. It was light but the cardamom flavor was strong. Interesting to try once but I wouldn't order it again.

As a recipient of the prestigious Texas Monthly Top 100 BBQ Award, the expectations were high--and for the most part, they were met. The venue itself provides a fantastic, relaxed vibe, complete with plenty of TVs and a music stage, making it the perfect spot for chilling out on a lazy afternoon or settling in for an evening hang. The Main Event: Pitmaster Excellence The true test of a Texas BBQ joint is the holy trinity, and here, they nailed the fundamentals: * Brisket: This was Texas BBQ as it should be. The brisket was super juicy, delivered a profound, deep flavor, and possessed a flawless, great bark that spoke to hours of skillful smoking * Spare Ribs: A study in contrast and texture. The ribs offered a satisfying "good pull"--firm enough to bite but still falling cleanly off the bone. The thick, peppery bark was beautifully balanced by a slight sweetness from a pepper jelly glaze, adding a layer of sophisticated flavor you don't always find. * Pork Belly Burnt Ends: These were pure decadence. Each bite provided a delicious, melt-in-your-mouth experience with a distinct and welcome hint of Fierce Whiskers bourbon woven into the smoky, fatty flavor. They are so rich and irresistible, you know you shouldn't eat too many, but good luck stopping. * Jalapeño and Cheese Sausage: This locally sourced link brought the heat with a good level of spice. The flavor was excellent, though the texture leaned slightly toward the processed side, which was the only minor drawback among the meats. The Supporting Cast: Sides A great plate of BBQ requires sides that stand up to the meat, and while two of these were stars, one needs a little work. * Mac & Cheese: An absolute winner. It was cheesy, creamy, and featured an excellent smoked flavor that permeated the dish. The slightly charred edges added a delightful textural counterpoint. * Hash Brown Casserole: This was a surprisingly strong contender, offering a nice assembly of savory flavors. The secret weapon was the corn flake topping, providing an unexpected but welcome crunch, complemented by a satisfying hint of bacon. * Creamed Corn: Unfortunately, this side was the weakest link. It tasted primarily bland, despite a slight peppery note. It desperately needs some fresh jalapeños mixed in to cut through the creaminess and add the essential Texas kick. Final Verdict The meat selection here is truly Top 100 worthy, excelling in technique, flavor, and execution (especially the Brisket and Burnt Ends). The atmosphere is perfect for a relaxed gathering. While the Creamed Corn missed the mark, the stellar Hash Brown Casserole and Smoked Mac & Cheese prove that their side game is usually strong. Come for the high-quality, authentic Texas barbecue, stay for the great outdoor patio.
