I absolutely love shopping at the HEB on 71 bee caves. This has quickly become one of my favorite stores. While I do shop at the Lakeway location from time to time, this one truly stands out to me. First of all, the staff here is consistently friendly and welcoming. It makes such a difference when you walk into a store and feel genuinely appreciated as a customer. I also really enjoy the samples -- they always seem to be cooking something delicious, and it's a fun way to try new items. The wine selection is excellent as well, and I love that they often have wines available to sample. It adds a special touch to the shopping experience. What I appreciate most, though, is the incredible variety. This store carries such a wide range of products, and it feels thoughtfully curated. I can always find what I'm looking for -- and usually discover something new and exciting, too. The overall layout and selection just feel better suited to my tastes. I used to be a huge fan of HEB. This particular store is really badly run though or maybe HEB just isn't what it used to be. They are always short of basic essentials. Do not restock. The staff are rude, and unhelpful. They look miserable and just don't care. Constantly wrongly ringing items up or forgetting to give you your bags. I've even asked them not to pack for me because I just don't get all my stuff. Really disappointing. read more

I love HEB. But not this one. I consistently have to check the register to make sure that I'm not getting overcharged. Sale prices are often not reflected at the register (nor the scales in the produce department). When this happened AGAIN to me today, when I noted that the scales didn't reflect the appropriate prices, I notified an associate in the produce department. I was told they couldn't do anything to change it and to tell a cashier. So I did, after I was overcharged at the register and informed the cashier, a manager came to change my price. But didn't seem to care about updating the system to reflect those prices, just mind. Seems like they are depending on customers to make sure they don't get overcharged. This, plus the whole "you have to log into our app to get the coupon code" leads me to think that HEB is changing. Not caring about the customer experience as much as before. The produce section is awful. I went there Monday morning about 9:30 am About half of the scales do not work. Good luck finding the clear produce bags. There were pallets of produce in boxes absolutely everywhere. Plus there were no fresh cauliflower, broccoli, or zucchini squash, basic items. read more

Beware: we quickly joined the HEB cult. Their selection and quality can't be beat. If you're a lover of green or cotton candy grapes, grab a bag as soon as you walk in. Their produce is so much better than the competitors options. If you're short on time for dinner, they have oven and microwave ready family or single meals and they're better than any of the weekly meal delivery services. Don't sleep on their nectarine juice either. Their prices are comparable or better than the other local options. From what I understand, Texans love HEB because they put their money where their mouth is and show up for the communities in which they serve. Their service is better than the others. They also offer pickup and delivery service provided by their own employees, which I prefer over other grocery delivery options. read more

I started using this HEB because it was on the way home from work when I used to have to commute. I always thought it was fine but also didn't know a whole lot differently because the only one I had to compare it to was the huge one in Pearland. When I first started frequenting there, I found myself bagging my own groceries which wasn't ideal. This was way before pandemic times. I made a complaint and it actually got better after that. The way the lanes are set up quite frankly sucks. I do like their floral department and pharmacy so I still go there for those 2 things. But when it comes to shopping for food, I prefer Lakeway because they have more things that we like to buy. read more

Forget about shopping here on weekends or game day. Why? Tons of people! One secret is to check out their beer area for beers you cannot find anywhere else. Is it worth checking out? Yes. However, I kept asking about things and the employees didn't have a clue and I had to find it on my own. My guess it is the time of the year that extra temps are hired, as I had not run into this before at this location. I must say that the high point of the store is the beer and wine. They seem to have more knowledge than many liquor stores. Don't see something, asked. They may still have some in stock that has not been put out yet and are happy to look in stockage and even hard to find spots. Oh, and don't forget to try the sample areas. Yum! Can be REALLY crowded at times, so don't go on Sunday - even during football season - if you're not in the mood for a swarm of people...particularly after an especially fun Saturday night. ;) It is necessary to leave your cart at the end of an isle at times because there simply is no room. Crowds or not, weekends are the best. If there's any way to make the task of grocery shopping fun, HEB manages to pull it of on Saturdays and Sundays. LOVE to sample all the food and wine and watch cooking demonstrations! They go from about noon until 5ish. As a bonus, you can forego buying lunch for the day after gobbling up all the little treats. From tacos to chili to ice cream - app, entrée, & dessert! All for freeeeeee! And I did mention the wine samples right? Oh, yup, I did. And the BOGO coupons all over the store are quite the bargain most times - meaning IF you need the item(s) and aren't just buying because "it's on sale." Definitely one of the nicer HEBs in Austin. There are a few items I like that the store doesn't carry, so I have to make an extra trip to Whole Foods and/or Randalls. I also wish they had a more extensive "prepared foods" area. After shopping at the locale for about a year, I've come to the conclusion they deserve a solid 5 stars. It would be unrealistic to expect one market to carry every single little item I need/want. :) Overall, tons of stuff (including a plethora of Central Market branded items - yay! I had an appointment for COVID booster and flu shot. Got there 20 min early. Waited 40 more minutes and was finally told I was supposed to check in. There are no signs that say that and there were no instructions in my appointment email. The line to be serviced for prescriptions is 8 people deep currently and one employee just had to leave. Overall, one of the nicer HEB stores in Austin, somewhat a cross in layout between the Brodie Lane and Westlake locations. This location has the definite advantage of a saner parking lot layout than the Brodie store, and a wider selection of items than the Westlake store. They get three automatic stars for being out of the bag-free zone of Austin. If you already follow my reviews, you know "bag-free" is a pet peeve of mine, and it's almost worth the extra distance for that perk alone. Add to that another star for a location that has gas at good prices, and this store can be seen as an oasis if you're low on fuel and money. Their wine selection is also well-stocked, and while I'm definitely not a wine snob, they manage to keep me happy with their selection. As the commercials say, HEB is the largest wine seller in Texas, and this store showcases that claim nicely. Another star. Only downside to this location is what I will charitably refer to as the "lake people" phenomenon. If you don't know what "lake people" are, they're somewhat akin to People of WalMart, or that cousin of yours from Arkansas that never quite fits in with any crowd. You know, the one that drives the '77 Impala held together by rust--where the rust is actually considered a selling point. It can sometimes be a challenge shopping with them and their baskets loaded with Frio beer and pork rinds, but, if you can manage to hit the store when they're offering wine samples rather than when I do early on Sunday mornings, I'm sure the experience is a lot more pleasant. The store itself is ok, just like the other stores. My problem is with the pharmacy. I used to go to CVS. Great service there, always texted me when my prescriptions are ready. Unfortunately my current insurance does not have a contract with CVS, so I have to change to HEB. Here at HEB, no calls, no texted. I have to call them all the time. When my refills are out, CVS would call my doctor. HEB does not do that. You have to call them before they call you doctor. read more

This HEB location has really gone downhill as of late. They often do not have the shelves stocked with items that are considered staples that most people buy weekly. The produce department rarely has items needed. The scales in produce often don't work or are missing printing tape. It's difficult to find produce bags as well. They often do not have shopping carts available for the people who do their own shopping. The shoppers that are hired to shop for others will often leave their gigantic carts in the way so that you can't get through the isles. Their customer service is awful. Most of the time the workers can be seen talking amongst themselves instead of helping customers. If you approach them to ask a question they usually don't know the answer and don't fell that it's necessary to find out the answer. I have grown up with this HEB. I used to love this HEB, but they have let me down. I am extremely disappointed with the haphazard renovation that RUINED my beloved HEB. Where is the CHEESE?! Where is the MILK?! The quality of selection has gone down the toilet in favor of overpriced tasteless premise meals for spoiled college students who don't have the wherewithal to learn how to cook. The recent renovation of this HEB has been tough to find a flow for, but we've figured it out. As you may see for any of my other reviews of HEBs, I find HEB to be metaphysical perfection in grocery/sundry shopping. I don't have to go to Costco or anywhere else. I rented a steam cleaner and was told I was supposed to have cleaned the bottom of it out before returning it but was never told this when renting it. I was told I could pay a $20 cleaning fee or go into the bathrooms to get wet paper towels and clean it myself. So my wife waited in the car with our crying newborn while I cleaned the bottom of HEB's steam cleaner. Cleaning machinery is oftentimes a task associated with renting equipment, most companies build that expense into their base cost. If you really do want to assign that task to your customers, with an option to pay for HEB to perform it, it would be better for your customer retention if you let your patrons know that at the beginning of the rental. read more

I'm so tired of lazy kids that suck at their job. I just walked out of the HEB that I have been coming to for almost 20 years fuming that I had to unbag and re-bag half of my stuff. I bring 4 freezer bags and politely ask them to put the frozen together. Not only did they intermingle everything, but they smashed my chips and tomatoes. These bitches are so self absorbed that they've practically run over my children with their shopping carts. I'm not strolling the aisles by any means but these bitches are on a mission. Yes another 5 star review of this HEB! I used to shop here a lot when I lived in Lakeway particularly on the way to Hamilton Pool to stock up on Pit Nic (yes I speak Pittie:) foods including some of the best sandwiches to be found in the area in their deli! They now have a Central Market Cafe on The Run with a seating area with a microwave and a salad buffet at 5.99 LB. Great find for a cheap lunch in Bee Caves! This HEB is by far one of the nicest and cleanest I've been to in Austin. Since expanding, they have a nice variety of Central Market items, including a "Cafe-on-the-Run." Plus, who wouldn't love a grocery store that has free wine tasting? My tip: if you don't like crowds don't come here on Sundays like everyone else. I am now living on HWY 71 past the Y in Oak Hill and well the HEB at the Y seemed a little weird so I decided to go to the one out in Bee Caves, well that one is a little too nice for me. I felt like I was walking into a Whole Foods. All the soccer moms and nice employees made me feel like Alice in Wonderland. The produce selection was nicely laid out and easy to find. I'm a pharmacy technician, and this is where I fill my prescriptions. The staff is efficient, their prices are lower than the Walgreen's across the street, and they have the space and budget to have a diverse inventory. The pharmacy where I work is super tiny, so when a customer can't wait for us to order a specialty medication, we can usually find the med at HEB. Symbiosis makes the world go 'round, and the HEB pharmacy is a great chain pharmacy. They may not have the ability to cater to their customers the way a smaller pharmacy like Live Oak or Liberty can, but for those who don't need a ton of guidance or special consideration, the HEB pharmacy is decently priced and very fast. read more

This HEB is my favorite HEB ever--I love it even more than the Escarpment one. The employees here walk around smiling naturally and the ones I've encountered are very friendly to customers, getting to know them more closely like what you picture happening in a traditional small market. I eat at the "Cafe on the Run" for lunch pretty much every day and even look forward to lunch as a result. There are usually many rotating samples of dishes for customers to try. They always seem to have two or three delicious dips like Hummus, Spinach Bacon, Love, Red Pepper Hummus out as samples. Their prepared food prices range around restaurant prices, but the pannini sandwiches are a good deal at $5-6 each. They also have a salad bar with a nice variety of fresh things (even dolmas) at $6.99/lb. The only poor experiences I've had here are with the mochas. Their mochas are far less tasty than the ones at independent coffeeshops. There's also a Starbucks in a separate building in that same huge shopping center. The size of the supermarket is also very big and the parking lot is well-packed (but not impossibly dense) during the weekday lunch hour. I can picture this supermarket as a hub for local Bee Cavers to shop at. The best thing about this supermarket would be the friendly employees. It makes me carry the awful stereotype that Bee Cave residents are friendly. read more

Wow! The size of this grocery would tend to lead me to believe that it wouldn't be nearly as nice as it is, but it is! I had no idea what HEB even was a couple years ago, though I was working in Marketing and had passed some HEB gift cards through our Legal Department... I just read disclosures and never gave much more thought about it until my brother moved to Dripping Springs... I remember being a little excited, actually, when we first came here just because I really wanted to see what the HEB was. I was expecting nothing more than a Ralph's or a Safeway or something, but this place was really nice, big, and open. I love the meat section here, as we've gotten some fantastic cuts here for CHEAP! Everybody here seems friendly and even when it seems busy, the check-outs seem endless and move quick! Great random samples here, too, though my cousin really likes to sample the olive bar, which I never feel as comfortable doing, haha... Parking for days... maybe weeks. This is the best 'standard' grocery store I've ever been in. By standard, I mean a general purpose grocery store that's not selling itself as super fancy *Cough* *Whole Foods* *Cough*. I'm from California, and to me the prices seem very good (probably 10 - 15% below what I used to pay, maybe more). The large jars of Pace Salsa, which I purchase large quantities of, was about $4 in California; it's $3.08 standard price here. The place is clean, seems to have about 500 employees working at any given time, and seems to have quite good produce, deli, cheese, and bakery stuff. Very good beer and wine selection, from what I can tell. Drug store selection is better than most drug stores. Lots of sundries and cooking tool stuff. Much of the store brand stuff is good (not all, mind you - do not buy the store brand chicken breasts in the refrigerated section - yuck), and there is a store-brand item for just about every type of thing they sell. Very satisfactory. The "Texas Dippers" corn chips are outstanding. My only complaint is that the prices in the floral department seem unreasonably high. I don't have enough experience here to know if that's just what flowers cost, or if it's unique to HEB, but it makes it more challenging to bring home a little bouquet every now and then for the Mrs. when they're so expensive (I feel guilty for enjoying the view of the many attractive soccer moms that inhabit the place). Still, as this is the best standard grocery store I've ever been in, it gets 5 stars. read more

I've shopped this store since it opened. Fortunately, I shop there primarily after 9 pm, as weekends earlier are crazy with lines of people and kids running everywhere. Bumper cars. With the new Lakeway HEB store coming soon, that should soon be alleveated. The associates are nice and helpful when you can find one. My issue is recently with their coarse ground beef for chili had lots of gristle and fat chunks. Yuck. Kept having to spit stuff out. Ready made foods are poor, especially the tough as sticks green beans and asparagus. Why can't they achieve at least a Luby's level of ready-to-eat carryout food? I shop Randall's Lakeway when I want a nice soup or a tasty ready-made meal. Randall's pastries are better and cheaper especially on Friday's. This HEB needs to pick up their game a bit. read more

They didn't have any out, but two employees behind the baker counter found a fresh one and boxed it for me while I shopped. They really went the extra mile for me when they could have blown me off. I mean MAINstream stores it has every kind of packaged food you could imagine, but we stop in there from time to time for berries, organic whipped cream and wine, you know, the essentials.
