I love this place. I can get my prescriptions compounded, pick up a Bulletproof coffee and some healthy Twinkie's. Who am I kidding. I also get the flourless chocolate cake and some chocolate covered strawberries. Peoples is an Austin staple. You go in and think you're gonna get your bioidentical hormones and you leave with a salad for your lunch and some hair vitamins. It's basically a snack fest up in there, but they're semi-healthy so you have no eaters' remorse. Everyone that works there is super nice and seems happy to be there. Located by the Westlake High School this is a gem hidden and not only is it a pharmacy it is a smoothie bar dessert bar and grocery deli store all combined. I was truly impressed was the fact that the pharmacist explained how my canine meds was to be used and demonstrated the the refrigerated type of meds my dog had to use by a strange type of syringe thank goodness she showed me what to do. The smoothie I ordered was a detox and full of delicious flavor, I loved it and will come just to have another smoothie. This is more of a whole foods type of environment everything here is nutritious and organic I also bought organic meat by the lb by a farmer in town that sells meat at People's yes, it's true .......truly impressive. I lived in Westlake since 1991 and grown by leaps and bounds son attended Westlake High and seen peoples come a long way. It's tops at go an you top rated service. This is much much more than a pharmacy it has a deli counter as well as a comprehensive selection of vitamins herbs and other homeopathic solutions. I usually hit Peoples' for lunch when I'm on business travel as it is the only walkable lunch spot but it is also a treat. They offer many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Many selections are farm to table and organically grown. They use grass fed, organic meats - their is a concern for health and natural ingredients and products. Most recently I tried the chicken soup and a brownie. The soup was flavorful with large chunks of chicken and yummy veggies. It was seasoned to perfection -- no overbearing saltiness. The brownie was homemade and delicious. If you need a quick bite or homeopathic solution and you are near Westlake give Peoples a try. read more

I recently sought out Dr. Strickler of People's Pharmacy as recommended by my sister's naturopath. She has been wonderful and eye-opening when it comes to my health concerns and treating them holistically. For anyone frustrated with Western medicine, the tendency to treat the symptoms not the underlying cause and the get you in and out in under fifteen minutes so as to maximize profit attitude, I suggest trying a naturopath and especially Dr. Strickland. I get my prescription medicines here. The customer service at the pharmacy desk is better than most places. They always greet me right away. I don't have to stand there awkwardly for 5 minutes until someone notices me. And if one customer is being helped and another is in line, the pharmacists actually come out from behind the counter to ask the person who's waiting for help. Wow! Plus the pharmacists check on possible drug interactions and counsel you about this. At other places, I'm used to having to wait for the pharmacist after I've already paid, and then they just read the label to me as if I couldn't read or myself. Not here! They are very knowledgeable about the medicines they dispense. read more

~This Peoples Pharmacy often blows my GD mind. I figure there are just a couple ways to win a war. You can be smarter or you can be stronger, right? Hopefully, you can be both. Ever have rainbows and unicorns coming out of your butt every 20 minutes for 6 days? I hope not. I would not wish this on my worst enema. Recently, with a raging war going on in my tummy, I really didn't care HOW the war stopped, I just wanted to throw all of the troops at it and win. After 4 days of sickness, I visited the good people at Whole Foods and purchased their probiotics (50 million live) and activated charcoal pills on the rec of a helpful guy in their nutrition area. This made a difference for about 4 hours - meaning, i did not get sick for 4 hours. Next stop, Peoples where I learn that 1,800,000,000,000 is a lot more than 50,000,000. Yes, I was not able to keep food down for SIX days in a row! I probably should have run to the hospital (there is a joke in there somewhere but I am not in the mood.) Instead, I decided to visit my friends at Peoples Pharmacy. Within 7 minutes of entry, I had told my tale of physical woe to one pharmacist, one nutritionist, and a vitamin specialist; all Peoples employees and all showing the requisite amount of empathy for my condition while also acting appropriately like it was no big deal. I purchased 10 packets of freeze-dried VSL probiotic (with 450,000,000 live) and was told to take 3-4 packets a day to win this war. The idea is that the 1.8 trillion living organisms overwhelm and eat the enemy and leave me healthy. I also bought a probiotic for maintenance and a homeopathic under-the-tongue solution for stress and another for constant diarrhea (imagine!) I am a regular devotee of several Peoples locations in Austin and this is my favorite. I was completely better within 24 hours. Other reasons to visit: 1. New chapter daily vitamins 2. Homeopathic solutions to allergy issues 3. Coffee, smoothie and healthy lunch to go 4. Energy/mood enhancing help when I am slow/down. The Peoples have spoken and I have won! read more

I love that I can walk into People's Pharmacy and get intelligent, well-informed advice about my nutritional/supplemental needs without any added costs! The staff here is excellent and always most eager to help and share their knowledge. Having trouble sleeping? Feeling a little sluggish throughout the day? Got a little brain fog? People's can help you with any of this and more. It's also nice to have the small grocery items that would otherwise have me driving all the way to Whole Foods, not always convenient to do. (In particular, the big selection of Gluten Free products...especially the frozen pizza crusts!) I keep rediscovering this place and I did it again today. I have been going in there for the supplements and agree wholeheartedly that the staff there is really, really helpful. Today, I got a wrap and was blown away by how good they were. Not only that, but they only use the healthiest ingredients like organic vegetables and meat. I heard they offer grass-fed beef (Betsy Ross) here which was my main motivation for visiting. Along with that, Yelpers have been pretty positive about Peeps Rx in general so it was on my list... I waited to post this review because I was shocked/disapointed at the price of teh meat: $21 for 1.6 pounds of sirloin. I mean sure, that's a giant slab of beef, but that's like $13 pound = Not Cheap. (I know GF isn't going to be "cheap," but my understanding is Whole Food carries it for $5.99/lb). nyways, I thought it only fair to at least taste it before bitching about it. Damn. This is some tasty meat. It was tender and flavorful (I didn't marinate it, or put anything on it, and it was rich and buttery, and overall just yummy). As expected, this meat is fattier than your regular grocery store meat, but not in a bad way. Tastes amazing, but also good for you! I did a new equation determining that five 4.5 oz servings (plenty for me, given its richness) would cost me $4.20 a pop. Damn. Still expensive. Sad to say, the belief that I'm dong good for teh local farming community and good for my body, doesn't "reduce" the price in my head. However, the taste does. ..a little bit. I'm not going to start buying this stuff every few days. But I will stop by and treat myself. The fridge/freezer section is quite small here, yet this is what I came for therefore its hogging my review. However, this place is 80%-90% pharmacy (go figure) and it appears to be a great one. I needed some Vitamin D3 and the lady behind the counter gave me a great recommendation. It comes in liquid - cool! Also picked up some electrolyte mix at a good price. I liked the staff here. Helpful and friendly. The cashier even told me about a special on sirloin at HEB (after he rank up my hunk-o-meat and did a double take on the price). I reserved the final star for the "deli" (fresh food.drink) which I will def come back and try. read more

I cannot rave enough about People's Pharmacy. About a year ago I got really really sick, and decided to go the au-natural route and work with nutritionists to start feeling normal again. The miracle man was named Ray Salano. I call him Dr Ray. He worked with me and neurotransmitters ( really ya'll neurotransmitters are a life saver...ask me for more info.) At one point he told me to call him any time and if he was in a meeting or whatever he would get out to talk to me. I mean really- what kind of doctor has that kind of dedication! This People' s is similar to the one on N Lamar. The same superior staff, high levels of knowledge, natural products. This one is located next to Lakeline Mall. My experience with Peoples Rx was picking up two specialty compounded medications for my cat who was suffering from hyperthyroidism. She was impossible to pill, so the vet had Peoples Rx compound the medication into a cream that could be rubbed into the inner ear and absorbed through the skin. The pharmacist who helped me did a great job of explaining exactly how to administer the medication. I had another compounding pharmacy make the same medication prior to Peoples Rx, but they gave me zero instructions on how to use it. Peoples Rx took the time to make sure I understood exactly how to apply the medication, which I needed and appreciated. The topical cream was ineffective, so the vet switched the Rx to a compounded liquid version. Peoples Rx made it "Triple Fish" flavor, which she seemed to enjoy pretty well. Unfortunately she didn't make it long enough to know if that medication would have been effective. The special details like adding in fish flavor for cat medications and the detailed explanations from the pharmacists about the medicine made me feel like Peoples Rx really cared, which was refreshing and welcome in a time of medical crisis. read more

I honestly have only used the pharmacy once in the many times I have visited. They have so many delicious healthy options....... smoothies, wraps, salads, sandwiches, pasta salads, soups, chili, baked goods and so much more! Most items are natural and organic and you can also find gluten free, dairy free, vegan and raw items. Mmmmm, mmmmmm..... I'm getting hungry just talking about it. The staff is amazing and very knowledgeable at both the food counter and pharmacy. They will help you with anything you need and answer any questions you may have. This is at the Westlake location. I am not sure if any of the other People's has a deli/food counter..... if not Westlake is definitely worth the extra drive to visit. read more

Such a bad experience this morning. I should have driven to my usual People's store on N. Lamar. Literally walking around hunting for product for 10 min, shopping bag on shoulder, and not an employee approached me. Didn't have products they gave at Lamar so now I have to make a second trip yo Lamar. When I got to a register, an employee was in his phone and completely uninterested in ringing my products up. Went to another register and was not greeted, no warmth. Only nice welcoming person here is Katherine and age was too little, too late. Why am I paying these prices to be treated so poorly and wasting my time looking for products that aren't here anyway. Geez, People's: you've been around too long for this poor/nonexistent service. This place has some amazing food. I cannot comment about the 'Drug Store' part because I have never had to purchase anything from the 'back' of the store. A sort walk from where I work, this is a favorite if I do not bring my lunch from home. All ingredients in the cold pressed juices and nut mylks, tortillas and coffee are organic. Many ingredients are local and could be organically grown just not certified. I purchased a Cashew Cacao Mylk from the Grab & Go section and ordered the Reveler Breakfast Taco in a bowl. The Mylk which was smooth and creamy in a portion size that is larger than most, was chugged within minutes. Actually grabbed another chocolaty delight before I left town, so good! The Taco was delish and I was sorry I didn't order the larger size. The warm medley of Scrambled Eggs, Potato Cubes, Cheese, and Bacon Bits as an add-on was a big hit. Melted and gooey cheese, with dense Bacon Bits, warm Potatoes, scrambled eggs, all perfectly flavored with a nice medley of herbs and spices. Although the menu is not totally clean, I'm thankful that People's Rx Deli clearly identifies their menu ingredients for all to see. 3.5 stars. 3 for the sandwich and .5 for the friendly people in the pharmacy part. Stopped to get a quick bite to eat on my way to Enchanted Rock and had the Italian sandwich. I would have expected with extra healthy type meats and bread, etc it would taste better. This was decent but not good. More like a Subway sandwich and less like a specialty Italian sub I was expecting. Jersey Mikes is easily better and even Thundercloud. It will work in a pinch but not something you search out. That said, the people here seem very friendly and they did have some unique items while I was perusing the store while waiting for my sandwich (chocolate beeswax lip balm anyone?). read more

I cannot say enough good things about People's Pharmacy Westlake and specifically health and wellness practitioner Kaya Depuis. Little did I know 12 months ago when I went in to buy a vitamin that Kaya would be the primary lead in helping our family unravel the mystery of chronic ear infections and health issues for our 5 year old son.
