Ok so apparently there are two pages for this location. This one which is from when the old store was still in existence and a new one someone created after the renovation. Apparently, not realizing this page already existed. Anyway, covering all my bases and doing a review here as well. Note: I've also suggested an edit for the duplicate businesses. Ok now that is out of the way. Review time: I really love this location so much. The store is huge with wide aisles making it easy to navigate compared to the smaller stores. Even if it's crazy busy on a Sunday afternoon you can still get to the items you need with ease. The store is still very clean and of course modern since the rebuild. Employees are friendly. The shelves are stocked fully 99.999% of the time. I live extremely close to the East 7th Street store (5 min away) and opt for this location time and time again. read more

This is probably one of the best HEB's that I have been to to. I love that they have a parking garage so if it's pouring down with rain, one doesn't get drenched trying to get one's vehicle with a basket load of groceries. On the ground floor, there is True Texas BBQ with ample seating. One can take the elevator or escalater up to the second floor to the supermarket. On the escalater, there is one side for you and the other side for your trolly of groceries. I have abandoned my neighborhood HEB and now patronize this one at 2400 S. Congress Ave. read more

Finally got to visit the brand new HEB I have been waiting for to open!!! We visited on a Sunday at 11 AM, which we all know Sunday is probably the worst day to go grocery shopping and parking was surprisingly very easy to find right away. Got a parking spot on the first row as your drive in. So nice that regardless of weather you can park and walk out to your car comfortably. Loved the murals as well. As you enter from the parking garage you can take the elevators or escalators. Well ya know I just HAD to try the conveyor that takes your shopping cart up ha they have attendants that help you place the cart on the conveyor going down and up. Such a cool little experience. Once we got to the second level it was indeed quite packed as expected, but nice and shiny brand new. We were greeted into produce by a wine tasting and then sausage sampling with a live cooking demo. Lots of sampling going on. I enjoyed the new store and can't wait to go back when it's not as busy. On the way out I stopped to check the BBQ restaurant menu. I'm coming back for the Dino Rib!!! read more

The new HEB on Oltorf and South First is just wow! Go park on the rooftop for some gray views of Austin, then enjoy the catwalk overlooking the entire store to the elevator. Speaking of elevator, practice patience it's not the fastest by all means. Perhaps they need to dedicate one just between the 2nd and 3rd level. Great selection of a variety of international foods, more so than other HEB's in the area. read more

I finally got the chance to check out the new SoCo H-E-B. I was impressed by this location. There is a parking garage with ample parking and there are lights above each spot to help you identify available parking spaces. The shopping is on the second floor upstairs and there is a shopping cart escalator and an employee to help you navigate this. I noticed they had a True Texas BBQ restaurant on the first floor. The store upstairs is clean and easy to navigate. The layout of the store when you first walk in, you are greeted by all the colorful fruit and veggies of the produce section. The registers are in the front, the store was fully stocked and has unique items that are not always available at other locations. I was excited to find the banana milk in the dairy section. It was easy to check out and the cashiers were very helpful and friendly. H-E-B also has a great app and cost savings with all the coupons and meal deals that they offer. Another reason the H-E-B is my favorite grocery store. read more

Two Story HEB! When you're shopping on the second floor, prices always look lower from up here. This store has a hella good produce section, an amazing bakery, an oversized beer and wine section, a big ol' pre-made area. This store is new. They had a smaller store caddy cornered across the intersection here, but they moved over and took over a whole block. This place is amazing. It feels like the cheese section is larger than the whole previous HEB. The first floor is all parking. There's a cool system of lights that lets you know where to park. Check out the neat artistic murals in the parking garage. Get your carts on the second floor. There's an escalator (descalator?) that helps you and your cart down to the first floor for parking. An attendant will help you with that. Be sure to check out the app. They're currently giving away groceries for a year, to a lucky customer, every day for 120 days. One day for each year this grocery has been around. I found that if you have an oversized vehicle, like my monster truck that can't fit in garages, they have parking in the back of the building. read more

Lots of stuff. Feels like a warehouse, not a grocery store. . So much plastic wrapped food. So much "fresh" meat of impossible colors. So much bulk. So much stuff and so little of what I want. You can't even buy a single bagel. Passed by the cakes, where the frosting colors were running. The price labels on shelves are not always there, AND they are nearly impossible to read without squatting unless the shelf is at or higher than your eyeline. If you have to use a ride service to get there and to leave, you will need to provide explicit directions to direct them to a place to pick you up. It is clean, i will give it that. read more

I switched pharmacies from Walgreens to HEB. I called the pharmacy today to ask if my account was set up and if they received my new prescription. I spoke to Edward and he was so extremely helpful and super kind to me. He answered all my questions and made sure I was completely satisfied before he hung up. I made this change because I am tired of supporting big box stores. HEB is homegrown for us Texans, where I was born and raised and still live. Thank you, Edward, and thank you HEB! Love your BBQ too! Update: I ran into another issue this morning and had to call the pharmacy for assistance again. I spoke to Jeanette and she was so extremely helpful and kind! She walked me through the solution clearly, simply, and quickly, assuring that I understood everything. After years of frustration at Walgreens, it's a breath of fresh air to be dealing with staff members who know how to treat their customers. i patronize several HEB stores regularly and i notice something very troubling about the congress location. on the east side, i shop at HEB on riverside and HEB on 7th street, and at both those locations i note that there are asians, caucasians, and afro-americans represented equally in the workforce- but at the congesss location-THERE ARE SOLELY AND ONLY HISPANICS!!! currently in the state of texas hispanics are the majority and all others are MINORITIES, yet at the congress HEB- there are no minorities hired at all! For weeks, I sat quietly at the BBQ patio with my dog Nova--my only companion--who rested under the table in the shade. We never bothered anyone. It was peaceful. Then the manager came back from a break. He waited until I went upstairs to load my card, then called two cops to trespass me. No warning. No conversation. I love HEBs so it sucks to leave a negative review. This HEB felt cramped, the layout didn't make sense, and the employees were less than helpful. I asked for help finding the HEB guacamole (probably one of their most popular items) and it took THREE employees to help. Two of those I had to interrupt different side conversations and they just pointed me to someone else. They had it on the bottom of a side wall, while most HEBs have it at the front display. I was approached for money in all isolated isle by an unhoused person who got in my personal space. At the 25 item or less check-out the clerk's family was in front of me and they had an entire 5 min conversation while they checked out well over 25 items. Going to HEB usually puts me in a good mood, so my latest trip was a bummer. However each time Ive experienced something like this at this location. Going to avoid this one moving forward. read more

Have always loved HEB, no problems, great people every week at Westlake location. But shopping at this location was problematic this time. No carts, so almost all the bags I brought for family shopping were not used. I commented to the checkout person that because of this problem I couldn't do the shopping I had wanted on this trip. She said they always keep the carts downstairs. So she had no interest in the customer feedback, only dismissal and a lie, as I have shopped there before when carts were available, and an employee was bringing them up in groups. If I don't want to deal with the method for finding and shepherding carts up some special escalator or elevator, I would at least want my feedback to be accepted with some professionalism. read more

Nightmare entry/ exit and parking situation. Ridiculous shopping cart escalators. Store is much too large with too much non-grocery space. Essential groceries are way at the back of the store, requiring a very long walk just to get a carton of milk. Bad idea to have a BBQ restaurant in the grocery, who would want to eat there? This weekend I did my usual grocery shopping at the new H-E-B on South Congress. I know I'll be back! It has everything I've come to like and expect from an H-E-B, including a big "Healthy Living" section, a hot soup station, and samples from their "Cooking Connection" stand. It just makes sense for one of the most centrally-located stores to offer a nice, big, thorough selection of foods and features. I'd been to the new Lake Austin H-E-B a few times, and this new store felt a lot like that, with the parking garage, cart escalators, BBQ restaurant, and shiny exciting newness. It was pretty busy, which is to be expected of a new, centrally-located store. Even though their "grand opening" happened a few weeks ago, they were still somewhat in "grand opening" mode with some extra freebies and workers on high alert to make sure everything was clean and running smoothly. Some people might miss the small charm of the old H-E-B in this location, but for most of us, having a large selection in a this part of town is a major benefit! read more

I went to HEB to purchase some Cough Syrup, Orange Juice, soup and things as I am a bit under the weather. The woman at the Pharmacy counter accused me of cutting the line. I stated I did not cut and she was like, "Well I don't know if you cut or not." I stated that I did not cut, asking the people behind me if I cut them, they said no. I told the Woman "I am not a Liar and would not cut line or lie about such a thing." I then said, "Perhaps to you I look like a liar" to which she said, it's not how you look, which was a lie. Upon check out, I was being profiled by the cashiers and people at the registers. They opened a line as soon as I was about to check out, with a guy starring at me as if He wanted to skin, salt, hang and burn me. They asked how many bags do I want to which I responded, however many it takes. She checked two bags which Obviously I needed 3. The grocery bagger took my chicken and placed it in the basket without a bag to which I stated, I need another bag... She quickly cancelled my transaction and gave me another bag which my chicken, which had been placed in the push basket by the bagger was placed in the bag. Today, seemed as if EVERYONE at the store had a bad attitude which additionally the armed guard came to where I was, looking as if He was going to through me out of my local HEB and the Checker took a picture of me as He thought I wasn't paying attention. I do not know what is in the air today but I am sick from a summer cold and did not need to be accused of cutting line then Profiled as I was by the checkers which the guy Mike placed my chicken directly in the shopping cart. HEB on Congress, please stop profiling people and causing scenes as you have just humiliated me on a day in which I am feeling terrible anyway from having a summertime cold. read more

Still poorly managed. I've tried the store a couple times now and every time the coupons they provided me didn't work with the excuse they are expired. Aisles literally blocked for no good reason, you don't need to block an entire aisle to put stock away. Why isn't anybody called to removed the expired coupons once the cashier in away of the problem? Why isn't there follow up to make sure they are taken down to begin with? I could go on but nothing will ever change so why bother. Inept management making go elsewhere. read more

I would rate the new store with five stars, but the parking garage a zero. It's a nightmare--they did not build a big enough garage for the amount of people who shop there. I've been there twice, and both times have been the same--absolute gridlock in the parking lot. I would never go there for just a few items, and I may never return even for a big shopping trip. Once you actually find a parking spot, the actual store is very nice and well stocked, but really not worth the stress caused by the horrid parking garage. read more

New Store is real nice but the parking is a disaster. Only one lane coming and going from the parking garage . This causes issues with someone always waiting for a customer to load their bags for a more ideal spot. Also the garage design should have had a walkway in front of the parked cars for customers to wheel their shopping carts instead of having to go into the traffic lanes to get to their cars. I don't see myself using this HEB location for this reason. read more

If you want to know what it feels like to visit a grocery store during a zombie apocalypse, visit this H-E-B before it closes up shop to demolish and rebuild a more modern version. It's eerie and thrilling all at the same time. The aisles are sparse, the lighting is terrible, and the people are shells of themselves. BUT, they do have some good deals since ALL MUST GO! Not sure of the actual date when they are doneso (it might have been today, Feb., 1), but there is a temporary H-E-B open at the Twin Oaks Shopping Center across the street if you happen to head to this one and it's not open. read more

So this HEB is all the rave in Austin we are staying at a room so we can only purchase a little at a time so we decided to check out there latest HEB that I keep hearing about. -They support local businesses on the back of there receipts -They have big and small baskets -a coupon comes out almost after every transaction -there is a restaurant True Texas -there is many coupon deals to choose from -they have DJ's boudain which is my mom's favorite but there 2.99 I miss the 2for $4 special...,,, -clean -friendly staff Cons None You have to pay for bags or bring your own or be without in an effort to go green. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm not in love with this HEB location. They don't have a gift card rack, and they seem to not have what I'm looking for when I go here. It is a convenient location when I'm running errands which is why I keep coming here. But I much prefer the 41st street location. The beer & wine selection here is pretty good, though. read more

Checking out at HEB proved to be a horrible experience. The Cash was rude and as I was wondering why he was making a face I told him my dog didn't bite. He said he didn't like dogs. Ok all have opinions but I didn't ask for his. He began talking and changed his like to hate. He said he always hated dogs. Then he said I should euthanize mine. What!?! It was horrible to hear. They actually have a decent election of stuff you would find at a Walgreens type place (shampoo, conditioner, soaps, first aid, etc.) as well as full grocery store.... The aisles are a bit sparse as they don't seem to restock regularly. However, the prices are good and there is general selection of most types of food. If you are staying in South Congress, this is likely going to be the best choice for basic grocery shopping... read more

A veritable cornucopia of the cross section of South Austin demographics. Get fresh produce for great prices and friendly service. It's definitely one fo the older HEBs, so it's got some wear to it - but I guess we can call that character. They do have curbside pick up if you're inclined to do that. Downside is they're no longer 24 hours a day (I guess a near fatal stabbing will do that) and parking is abysmal during the peak hours. Here's a tip - the city is repaving and working on S. Congress. This means turning to/from the north bound lane of S. Congress is now limited to the entrance closest to the laundromat. read more

The vegetables are SO FRESH. Really impressed with that. This HEB is pretty small overall. Unfortunately that results in a cramped checkout area and an annoying parking situation. I also don't really understand the product layout. You go through the fresh produce section, walk through the meats, then have to pass aisles and aisles of not-food until you can buy your bread, canned goods etc. Why? Although I don't live in Austin, I sure enjoy shopping at the South Congress H-E-B whenever I'm in town. A great selection of food, fresh and organic produce, wine and health products. The prices are very good. Where H-E-B really shines is their great check-out clerks who work hard to get you through the line as fast as possible. All around a great supermarket. read more

This review is for Instacart that delivers for HEB. First, my rating is not about HEB itself. I always found HEB to be friendly with excellent customer service and enjoyable shopping experiences. I have no problems only praise for HEB. This review is about my problems with Instacart that delivers for HEB. Some background. I have difficulty walking sometimes in bed unable to get up. My experiences recently have been very less than satisfactory with Instacart. My most recent happened 3/21/22 when I placed an order for 3/22/22 at 10:00am. I am not an unreasonable person and I expect adjustments to estimated delivery times. However, my order scheduled for 10:00am slipped to 11:00am, Noon, 1:15pm, 1:45pm, 2:215pm, 2:45pm. 3:45pm, then 4:15pm on 3/22! I called Instacart Support to find out what was going on and told they have a shortage of shoppers. My question is if they have significant backlogs why accept orders? I was promised delivery at 1:15pm, called again and promised delivery at 3:45pm. After 4:15pm I cancelled my order. I need groceries and placed a new order the morning of 3/22 selecting 10:00am. When I finalized my order it gave the delivery time as 3:00pm. Ok. My delivery time again slipped to 5:00pm then 6:15pm now 6:45pm (the time I am writing this). I once again called Instacart and told their shoppers are independent, they do not schedule specific times their shoppers work - they work when they want. The support person I talked to talked over me but I apologized for the miscommunication and again was over talked. Ok My question is, again, if they have backlogs why do they accept new orders - a question any reasonable person would ask. Based upon the explanation I was given shopping is dependent on available shoppers so an order could a day, two days, three days (as my recent case) even longer. Thankfully over the two years I used Instacart including the height of CoVid19 my orders never took longer than two day. However, I find their performance is degrading and when I called the support staff again today it was suggested to me that I drive and shop at HEB myself. I hope I have not left out anything in providing this information. My warning to you monitor your Instacart delivery times, call up and speak to Instacart support staff when delivery times start slipping (more than two adjustments) and judge for yourself if you want to stay at home waiting for a delivery that may not take place. read more

During peak hours, this place is a clusterf**k of epic proportions. expect to be nearly run over in the parking lot. once inside, it's kind of like the land time forgot. although i do appreciate the organic, central-market-product containing section. By night - late, late night - is when this HEB really shines. All of the south austin weirdos come out to play. You think the People of Walmart blog is good? There should be a People of the South Congress HEB blog. So if you have nothing better to do one night, or really do need some groceries, come on out and let your freak flag fly. Big minus = every grackle in Austin congregates in the parking light during the twilight hours. You have to dash into the store or risk a fly-by pooping. Big plus = HEB sushi. We actually freakin' love this ghetto HEB. Takes us back to a time when everyone ~ every class of every type of person goes to the same market (despite not ever really experiencing this, until now). Shop with mega millionaires and the homeless all at the same time? Now that's a market! People watching at its finest and pick up milk in the most sour smelling cooler ever! Parking lot hassles? check. Long lines? check. Rude employees? check. Naked babies? check. Smelly homeless? check. Axe wearing frat boys? check. Limo drop offs? check. Oh... and food. I was in Oltorf HEB yesterday, where there were 2 teenagers, with an older man, without masks in the aisle. I asked them where their masks were. They just laughed. I said, "It's not funny. What are you laughing about?" I talked to an employee, who looked for h the manager. The manager was on the phone. When I was self checking out, I saw the threesome in a line. I told the girl in self checkout and she said the mask rule was recommended and they didn't have to wear them. I told the employee, it was "recommended" by the state, but in HEB it was "mandatory"!! A store policy! I called the manager later and told her, her employees should be trained on policy. These people were allowed to check out while not distancing 6 ft without masks! That shouldn't have happened. read more

I like that this is very close to where I live but the parking lot and mass amounts of birds is why I'm giving it 3 stars. It's really hard to find parking any day of the week. Don't get your car washed before coming here because the birds will destroy it. This heb is pretty easy to navigate through. All the cashiers are friendly too! They always have fresh food and a great selection of flowers/plants. Heb is a great grocery store in general so I will always shop here! This made it so much easier for me to spot out all the local items that I could only find while in Texas/Austin! The supermarket itself is pretty standard. Pretty typical experience for this HEB, just tired of it. Went through Diana's line today and got a nice greeting, but then our business transaction proceeded like I wasn't even there. Brandon, the bagger, is so over his last year of high school because he never learns anything. Luckily he has a group Snapchat that allows him to cheat on tests and quizzes. Surprisingly, Brandon doesn't think he'll be going to college because it is useless. Diana agrees. He thinks he may try the military. He's been lifting and getting ripped so that combined with his work ethic, he should fly through Basic. At this point I was just trying to make sure he was packing my groceries correctly and stopped listening to the conversation that continued on. He did manage to place my eggs at the top of the bag; good looking out, Brandon. You and Diana are the best. When I called the store to discuss my disappointing experience, I got to speak with a mumbling manager named Barry, or was it James? Mumbling manager Barry-James acted very concerned and disappointed, and then proceeded to regurgitate a very inaccurate version of my story. After I replayed the event for him, he assured me that this is not typical of their staff and that he would take care of it. Something tells me mumbling manager Barry-James is in the same cheat group Snapchat as Brandon and nothing will be done. In short, if you love excellent customer service, Diana, Brandon, and mumbling manager Barry-James would love to invite you on down to the HEB on Oltorf and S. Congress. read more

H.E.B. is one of only two good things about Texas that have made some 20 years of living here somewhat tolerable. I've been going to this store since I moved here, and it has gone through some significant changes over the years. One thing that hasn't changed though is the diverse and colorful collage of clientele. This stands to reason given it buttresses the uppity elitist Travis Heights neighborhood and the increasingly gentrified, trendy "SoCo", with what remains of the immigrant Latinos in the area, while serving as a way-point for public transit travelers on the major CapMetro #1 lines. Leslie would often be hanging out here when I came to shop. If you prefer that your social environment and interactions are sterile and monochromatic, then I reckon that this H.E.B. isn't for you. Yes, it can be insanely crowded, particularly on Sundays, where in the store it becomes dodge 'em carts and in the parking lot it becomes dodge 'em cars. But since the population density of the area has increased over the years it's just one of those things one comes to expect in Austin these days. And yes, the cashiers aren't the most friendly and gregarious. But here again, I long ago abandoned the expectation of good customer service. [Sidebar: the H.E.B. on Parmer and 35 is one exception. The employees there greet you, thank you, and treat you like a customer. I thought I had slipped into a rift in the space-time continuum.] Are these reasons to avoid this H.E.B.? Well obviously that's a decision that you have to make on your own. But then again, I'm one of those people who finds it outright insulting to drop half a "G" on half a cart of groceries, and thus I rather prefer shopping at H.E.B. Others don't mind that, so it's whatever. However since this location serves Travis Heights, it has a decent selection of "organic" produce and products if that is your thing. I always liked that they had a great selection of Latin American products, and a fair selection of Asian as well.
