Right next to Asti & across the street from Quack's is the cutest, local grocery store in Hyde Park aka my hood. I seriously came in here only looking for some decent priced wine for the night (the kind that doesn't leave you a headache the next morning). They have spectacular priced wine! I may be a wino but I do possess tastebuds and can be kind of a snob at times. I found a cab for $5.99 & a Malbec that turned out to be $7.99 when I was expecting it to be $9.99. After being impressed by the wine selection for such a tiny place, I proceeded to explore the rest of the store. Even though I love my Central Market and HEB, they can get a bit crowded at the times when I want to go. This is not the case for this place. They have a pretty big parking lot, and when I've gone they only have one checker (no need for more). I seriously walked up and down every aisle because they have so many interesting things that I was not expecting. I think my favorite part was the fact that they had ready made random things packaged by the deli. There are a lot of products that are gluten free and the more healthy option. Organic dairy products and eggs from local farms! For example they had waffles in the freezer section that were whole wheat and gluten free. Didn't expect that. Lots of household products and pretty much anything you might need to make a dinner some evening and don't feel like messing with the mad rush of the larger grocery stores nearby. I was also very shocked that they sold packaged chicken breasts and other meats for very good prices. They even offered this brand called Alba that I buy from HEB/Central Market. They cram a lot of options in this tiny awesome store. Such as, "green" cleaning products. Lovely! I am not a huge grocery shopper, I don't buy weeks worth of food at a time. More like one or 2 meals at a time, so this place suits me. Why? Well I don't have to wander all over a huge store looking for one single thing (if I don't know where to find it), its not crowded ever, AND I can walk there which is a huge plus for me because I actually like to walk anywhere and everywhere I can. So go local, and go here if you're in the area!

Fresh Plus in Hyde Park has turned into a reliable friend. Ridiculously cheap, digestible wine, a decent selection of dog food for a store so small, a funky hip employee pool, and you can't beat picking up your essentials with the Sex Pistols playing in the background. Prices aren't bad vs convenient marts, and the laid back flavor of both the staff and feel make it worth the little extra you'll dish out for the convenience of its location. They have Dr. Brommer's peppermint soap everyone likes (as well as a full selection of body stuff I don't even know what for), good ready-made pasta bolongese to go, a decent beer selection, fresh ground beef for emergency meatballs - even bundles of wood for those of us lucky enough to have a working fireplace. I go here more than I probably should, but what the hell, life is short, as is the time it takes to get here.

Austin's hometown grocery. Been shopping here since I was a little kid. I like the mix of products. Love it.

There is 2 hour validated parking under the building so you can shop without worry. I consistently come here for the TJ brand of Greek yogurt with fat and honey flavor, and for their canned sparkling wines which I just personally find fun. Well, this is probably the best TJ's in the Austin area due its size and variety of healthy, eco-friendly products, so if you've not yet had the pleasure to visit, here's why you should: 1. Yes, it's in downtown at Seaholm but you get 1 hour of free, validated, protected garage parking right outside the basement doors. When you come in the garage, go forward and loop around to the left side to reach the marked TJ spaces. In 2025, you validate by entering your license plate number in the Metropolis kiosk - it's a breeze. 2. Bring an insulated bag for frozen items. TJ's has an impressive selection of high quality frozen seafood and prepared meals, appetizers, sides, and desserts that you won't find anywhere else at these prices. Lately my favorites are the assorted dumplings and other dim sum fare. Oh, and get ready for some fun on the freezer aisle, where you'll be tempted by all manner of sweet treats stored at eye level above the freezers. 3. Seasonal, limited edition items. Early summer was lemon season with lemon pasta, lemon pesto, lemon body care, lemon candles, and so on. My most recent visit, it was strawberry everything: tiny pies, mochi, dry cereal, etc. At Christmas time, my friends go wild for the kringle pastry selection. There's always something that will only be around for a few days, so you feel like you've struck gold when you get there before it's all gone. 4. Seasonings and sauces. TJ's has some of the best spice blends and prepared sauces that will punch up your home cooked meals. I am obsessed with the crunchy chili onion oil and dry crunchy chili onion sprinkle shaker, living in anxiety that they will be retired. 5. The nicest people! Everyone working seems to have a PhD in customer service. I always leave with a smile on my face after dealing with the friendly checkout counter staff person. There's even more to love - fresh flowers! awesome skincare dupes! great produce & cheese! excellent low cost wines! - but you'll need to come in & experience it for yourself. Bring your reusable bags!

Got a parking spot on the first row as your drive in. So nice that regardless of weather you can park and walk out to your car comfortably. Loved the murals as well. As you enter from the parking garage you can take the elevators or escalators. Well ya know I just HAD to try the conveyor that takes your shopping cart up ha they have attendants that help you place the cart on the conveyor going down and up. Such a cool little experience. Once we got to the second level it was indeed quite packed as expected, but nice and shiny brand new. We were greeted into produce by a wine tasting and then sausage sampling with a live cooking demo. Lots of sampling going on. I enjoyed the new store and can't wait to go back when it's not as busy. On the way out I stopped to check the BBQ restaurant menu. I'm coming back for the Dino Rib!!!

Contrary to another review, they usually have fresh fruit on hand; bananas in a basket and prepared fruit cups. They have a fair selection of beer, wine, soft drinks and coffees. They have sandwiches and other prepared food (e.g. giant $4 burritos) in the cooler. One time I had to ask for toilet paper and the guy brought it out from the back room. I suppose it took up too much space on the shelf. This is the alternative to Royal Blue, which has even higher prices, although Royal Blue makes some food in-house. On the whole, I prefer Second Street because Royal Blue has a weird vibe and some weird brands and this place is a regular store.

Honestly unremarkable. An independent convenience store that knows it can charge more because of where it is. The staff were friendly enough, but the stock was kind of limited. That might be due to so many people being in town that week but they seemed to run out of drinks fairly quickly. It's also no fault of the store but it's worth mentioning right in front of their doors seems to be a popular hangout for Austin's homeless. I don't think we managed a single visit here without being asked for change. If you need a quick snack they are in a great location, just don't expect an overly pleasant visit.

I got red and green salsa and it appears that the red salsa is a tad bit creamy, which is not something I've had many times before. It was unique and extremely tasty. As for the green salsa, I have yet to try, but I am sure it won't disappoint. I do want to give this place praise because I have passed it up before, but it is not a place to be looked over.
