This location has been there for a few years now and it's nice to have since I work downtown so if I need to pick up something on the way home, it's right there! There is 2 hour validated parking under the building so you can shop without worry. I consistently come here for the TJ brand of Greek yogurt with fat and honey flavor, and for their canned sparkling wines which I just personally find fun. Well, this is probably the best TJ's in the Austin area due its size and variety of healthy, eco-friendly products, so if you've not yet had the pleasure to visit, here's why you should: 1. Yes, it's in downtown at Seaholm but you get 1 hour of free, validated, protected garage parking right outside the basement doors. When you come in the garage, go forward and loop around to the left side to reach the marked TJ spaces. In 2025, you validate by entering your license plate number in the Metropolis kiosk - it's a breeze. 2. Bring an insulated bag for frozen items. TJ's has an impressive selection of high quality frozen seafood and prepared meals, appetizers, sides, and desserts that you won't find anywhere else at these prices. Lately my favorites are the assorted dumplings and other dim sum fare. Oh, and get ready for some fun on the freezer aisle, where you'll be tempted by all manner of sweet treats stored at eye level above the freezers. 3. Seasonal, limited edition items. Early summer was lemon season with lemon pasta, lemon pesto, lemon body care, lemon candles, and so on. My most recent visit, it was strawberry everything: tiny pies, mochi, dry cereal, etc. At Christmas time, my friends go wild for the kringle pastry selection. There's always something that will only be around for a few days, so you feel like you've struck gold when you get there before it's all gone. 4. Seasonings and sauces. TJ's has some of the best spice blends and prepared sauces that will punch up your home cooked meals. I am obsessed with the crunchy chili onion oil and dry crunchy chili onion sprinkle shaker, living in anxiety that they will be retired. 5. The nicest people! Everyone working seems to have a PhD in customer service. I always leave with a smile on my face after dealing with the friendly checkout counter staff person. My happy place! This location near a power plant took a bit of maneuvering to access the underground parking lot, which uses an app for payment. TJ is the place to find everything you need and stuff you don't. I stocked up on some vegan items for the week including a kale, basil cashew pesto (for a dinner party -- everyone loved it!, teriyaki baked tofu, lentil and quinoa bowl, spicy almond chipotle dip and quinoa and black bean chips. Also picked up my favorite coconut body butter and some treats. No lines at 10ish in the morning and friendly cashiers made for a great experience. read more

I love TJs - all TJs, any TJs - but I really love this Seaholm store. It's super close to my work, so I can pop in before my shift to grab dinner or quick groceries. I love the food, the salads, the cookies, the BOX OF TISSUES (I buy no other), the toothpastes, the hair oils, and body butters. Frozen dinners? Of course. Icelandic skyrr, the thick high-protein, low-sugar yogurt? OMG yes. And I can't stop buying the peanut butter granola. At this Seaholm store I've also scored the viral mini-tote bag with ease, and even the new super cute lil insulated bag. No crazy crowds, no pushing, no shoving! Easy as pie. I decided to visit Trader Joe's. I was honestly expecting something a bit different or better from the usual supermarkets like H-E-B or Walmart -- but this location really didn't live up to the hype. First off, the store is tiny. There's barely any variety, especially in the bakery and chip sections. I was hoping for a better selection of fresh breads, pastries, and unique snacks, but there wasn't much to choose from. The store layout itself feels cramped; if you have anxiety, I would not recommend it, with maybe three/four main aisles in the entire store and a couple of small corner sections for produce and bakery . It almost feels like a mini convenience store more than a full grocery experience. I went in the afternoon, and one of the biggest turn-offs was the smell. Multiple areas of the store smelled like gym sweat -- it was like walking into a locker room. I'm guessing a lot of people stop by right after the gym without showering, but either way, it was really unpleasant. And keep in mind, it wasn't just one person it was SEVERAL.No hate to my gym girlies or men but that's just gross. A store should never smell like that ever. They definitely need to improve the ventilation or at least run fans or air fresheners because the odor made it hard to even want to browse. I also expected Trader Joe's to carry more genuinely healthy or organic options and cleaner ingredients, but most of what I saw was just regular food repackaged with the Trader Joe's label. Honestly, it felt like the same kind of stuff you'd find at Walmart or H-E-B in the central market section or brand -- same ingredients, just branded differently and priced slightly higher if not higher. I think the "healthy" reputation mostly comes from the brand's image and the social media trend rather than what's actually on the shelves. I will say, they do have a few good items -- for example, their milk section was really good, and poultry section and a few of their frozen. But overall, the experience didn't match the hype at all. The parking lot is another headache -- confusing to navigate, which just adds to the frustration,you also have to register your vehicle/validate it to get free parking by adding your license plate number, etc. Like, who exactly wants to do that before they start shopping? Trader Joe's seems to attract a younger crowd, mostly teens and young adults following the trend/hype. And that's fine, but it feels more like a "social media store" than a practical grocery destination. If you're actually looking for a better organic selection, cleaner layout, and a more enjoyable shopping experience, I'd definitely recommend Sprouts instead. It's in the same price range, if not higher, but check your ingredients -- they will not lie. Or even H-E-B Organics or the Central Market brand in H-E-B. Maybe a larger Trader Joe's location would offer more variety and a better experience, but as for this particular store -- it's a definite miss for me. We came here over the weekend and enjoyed it. The store is in a great location. And it's always stocked with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, which is nice. They were passing out samples of a chicken and rice dish, which was delicious and we ended up getting a package of it that. That was pretty cool. I love this Trader Joe's location! First and foremost, the parking. Parking is free for 2 hrs in the indoor parking garage, which is shared between TJs and a few other businesses. There's always plenty of spots, and it feels really safe and secure! Second, this Trader Joe's is organized in such a great way. It's a bit on the small side, but it has everything you need, and then some. Frozen section is a long aisle, fruits and veggies are always looking fresh, meat and fish are plentiful. There are even fresh flowers and plants to choose from! (I always take a look at these) Just like at any TJs location, the employees are all very friendly and happy to help you with anything you need. I'm always a big fan of Trader Joe's. Whether in California, Arizona, New York, or Texas. I will say, I recently visited the new, or not so new for current Austinites, and was pleasantly surprised, other than the parking. We all know TJ are not fond of providing extra parking in new locations other than California. This was true with the Down Town Austin Seaholm location. I battled with other drivers at 7pm on a Wednesday evening, and found a spot right out front of the store in the street. I though, "YES" Of course, until I read the parking sign, and realized that I parked in a spot that said, "Not for free after 7pm Wednesday to midnight through Sunday. No big deal, I thought, and paid the $3 to park for an hour. Needless to say I found out later that they have a parking garage underneath, but with a lot of complex validation. I'll figure it out next time. Either way, we managed to make it in, and will say it was a decently impressive TG. I immediately visited the beer and wine selection. It was nice to see an extensive wine collection and not so extensive beer. I am used to the Trader Joe's in Albany, where they can only serve beer, due to NY state liquor laws, and they do a great job of it. I could not find the Trader Joe's Belgium Ale, which they have in Albany, NY, but did find the alternative La Fin DeMonde at a great price. Everything else was great, other than the parking. There's a nice green space (courtyard) for adults, kids and dogs in the square. Fun to pick up a few snacks from TJs (or surrounding vendors) and spend time relaxing before your next stop. 2. Look up when inside the store. TJs always makes an effort to add local art in every store and the Walter Seaholm location has some great murals that you don't want to miss. 3. Golden Afternoon is a responsive public art installation inspired by the wildflowers of Texas, mimicking a hanging garden that has overgrown from the flower beds on the ground level, down the open stairwell, and making its way into the parking garage. I can always count on Trader Joe's to have the cutest and most beautiful plants. I went in specifically to find a plant to give to our Thanksgiving host. The parking situation has changed here. Somehow the building recognized me and sent me a text that I had entered and had my payment information already. When I exited it received a text right away with receipt. You should be able to get up to 2 hours free parking. Found this plant arrangement quickly for $16.99. So beautiful and vibrant. Also picked up some Orzo 99 cents and Gnocchi $1.99. I love Trader Joe's. My boyfriend and I always talk about what a great idea Trader Joe's is as a business because there are so many people who are die-hard TJ's fans, and I never understood it until I started shopping here. First of all, they have very....real food. I'm not sure if that is the best way to describe it, but almost everything is TJ's branded. Some of my favorite foods that I've found here can only be bought here, which is really smart. When I think of corn chowder, I think of Trader Joe's. When I think of spinach dip, I think of Trader Joe's. When I think of brioche bread, I think of Trader Joe's. A lot of my staple favorites are incredible here. I recently bought flowers for only $5, so it makes me want to get flowers every time I come. They're doing a really good job of handling COVID as well. Only a limited number of customers can enter at a time, and they sanitize every cart. Hand sanitizer is offered at the entrance and at every checkout, and employees help you bag everything, which provides for a very efficient process. read more

If you watch Videos of Trader Joe's shopping hauls your likely to find the same products here. Also I have an excuse to go to the seaholm area of downtown. Parking isn't much of a problem. There's an underground parking garage and it's validated by shopping here. It's also not that bad to get to as it's off Cesar Chavez. I have always loved Trader Joe's but there is something extremely special about this Trader Joe's. The staff are so happy and incredible attentive!!! This Trader Joe's has gone above and beyond for me on more than one occasion. One I would like to point out is when my 2 year old was having a hard day and had a total melt down at the grocery store. One of the staff members heard him and came back with a bunch of stickers and a brown paper wine bag for my son to stick the stickers on. Trader Joes itself is fine, however the parking situation and its "ease of use" feature is a scam, including their appeals process. I am planning to report them to the better business bureau and investigate if there are any open class action lawsuits that can join in on. Similar to some of the other posts below I received an absolutely ridiculous fine from "McKinley Payments" for $73.25 ($3 to park and a $70.25 fine). Please be careful! All in, my family's total time I was there for less than 10 minutes -- there was never a notice, no warning period, offering the ability to pay a lesser fare, just a gigantic fine w/ no recourse. I decided to leave my cart in the store and carry my grocery bags into the parking garage. As I picked up my reusable bag, it tore and all of my groceries fell and rolled on the floor, including a dozen eggs. Super embarrassing... They not only helped me re-bag my groceries, but they gave me a new TJ's reusable bag for free and ran to the back of the store to get me a new carton of eggs. While checking out the Seaholm District I had to check out this store location. I walked inside seeing a security guard standing in front. Not sure why where this area is basically high end unless there is something I don't know about. The size of this location is much larger than the one I shop at. I believe the parking is a garage underneath it and perhaps has another guard down there. I walked around and noticed the same products but perhaps some different ones. Drove to this Trader Joe's on our way out of Austin as there's no locations in our part of Texas. It was a nice location with parking available in an indoor parking lot. I thought we would have to pay but our parking ticket was validated. However, if you spend more than one hour in the parking lot I think you may have to pay. There was a small line to enter Trader Joe's but nothing like the line at another Trader Joe's we left that had a line about a block long. So we were happy we found this one about 8mins away. The store is super clean and adheres to COVID shopping restrictions as they limited the amount of people able to enter the store. They had a station that offered hand sanitizers and things to sanitize the shopping karts. The shoppers in Trader Joe's are not like other stores where people seem to be grumpy and invade your space. Everyone was respectful and shopping with a smile on their face. The staff was also friendly, and were excited to answer any questions my wife had. The cashiers had my daughter who was beginning to get fussy smiling and laughing. They were so friendly and engaging it was a good way to exit the store with a good experience. read more

Someone near and dear to us who lives in Htown craved some jingle jangle from Trader Joe's....and this was the only one in Houston or Austin that had any.....we picked some up for her and we enjoyed seeing a part of town new to us. A developer took an old power plant and turned it into an upscale development, apartments, shops, a Trader Joe's, a coffee shop....they took a boiler and turned it into art by cutting away parts of it.....this place reminds me of Pearl in San Antonio. read more

Trader Joe's - a Hawaii resident's FAVORITE place to go while on the mainland! It was no different when I was in town for a conference. A few colleagues and I visited TJ to grab a few snacks and gifts since it was close to our hotel. Just like the others I've visited, I was not disappointed. They had my truffle brownie mix (THE BEST EVER), plantain chips, trail mix, and more! I love the brownie mix so much that I often stock up on them. For the first time, I also tried their chocolate chip brioche bread (kinda in the shape of bread sticks) and their five layer dip. Both tasted great and were much more affordable than the snacks available through the hotel! The staff was friendly and super helpful. I only wish the TSA agent was the same way as he scanned through my carry-on bag filled with TJ goodies. If I'm ever in the area again, I would be sure to return! read more

I've loved TJ's since 2010; I've never had any problems with their locations. From California to Washington, DC to Houston to Austin, they have all been amazing. Love the fresh produce; the clean stores; the amazing selections. The staff are always super friendly and helpful. Parking has always been great, as well. We love their wine selections. I am a big TJ's fan and this location is slightly larger than most locations. They will validate parking for 1 hour while you shop. Just make sure to take your ticket inside and validate on the way out. Just note, it can be a pain to get in and out of the garage during peak times. Apparently, it is hard to back out parking spots for some people. Moving on, every TJ's that I have been to always has some of the best employees around. They actually seem to enjoy their job which is a rarity nowadays or maybe it just me? Anyway, some of my favorite things to buy at TJ's is the following: trail mix packets (great for on the go), greeting cards, almond butter, Medjool dates, corn tortillas, seaweed snack, mixed fancy nuts, and fresh veggies/fruits. When I came here last year, the cashier forgot to put my receipt in my bag and I had to pay $15 for parking. I complained to the store and got a response saying that they wanted to make it better but then nothing ever came of it. I went once after they implemented the QR code system and didn't have an issue except for the fact that it's in a garage with no cell service. I usually opted to drive to the Rollingwood location because the parking lot and larger store selection were worth my time and gas. I was considering coming back today when I was in that part of town (I've since moved and the Arboretum TJ's is my local one now), but now I'm seeing that people are still being charged $3 to park if they DON'T have an issue, it's not worth it. If you can walk here or don't mind paying to buy groceries, it's a cute and friendly store, although the produce can look a little worse for wear, like most TJ's. read more

Like many of the commenters on this TJ's location, I was also fined over $80 when I parked in the garage and left without realizing there was a payment system. There is no clear signage. There are no operators to guide you. And you have apparently do everything on your phone in a garage that has very bad cell service. Then to dispute the fine, you're completely dismissed by McKinley Payments with no recourse. It's absolutely ridiculous. I'll be avoiding this TJ's and any other business in this area. Like many people on here I also received a 70$ parking violation from the new garage manager. Need to scan a qr code to pay for parking but I don't have a data plan on my phone. Free (1 hr) validated parking! Cheap prices! Nice, friendly, helpful staff! Clever marketing! A free nibble halfway through at the sample station! (I get hangry, y'all!) What else is there not to love? I used to live walking distance to a TJs in Atlanta and went through major withdrawals when I moved to Austin. My husband and I DROVE all the way to the San Antonio location, stocked up, and drove back before they built the one in Rollingwood. Then my life was MADE when they finally built the Seaholm location. Not quite as close as the Atlanta one was, but I still have a fun time taking my bike down the trail from Rainey St to downtown or walking over with my reusable bags. I have encountered a few times where the inventory was embarrassingly low. Like, the other day, they were legitimately out of ALL tortillas - corn, wheat, flour, enchilada size, burrito size, etc. except for ONE bag. but that was like, one time, and I forgive too easily. Regardless, I opt to shop at TJs prior to any other grocery store. I don't necessarily make this my go to joint when I need toilet paper or paper towels, as that selection is a little lacking, but I'm there nearly once a week stocking up on great, cheap wine, tasty cheeses, happy flowers and discovering new variations on my favorites.
