There's a lot of Yelpers complaining about the high prices at this convenience store, but that's to be expected considering the high rent area of their location. This place does quite a bit of morning business with coffee and breakfast items and they have numerous seating options sitting directly outside their door. They consider themselves the best grab and go place around. They do have a limited craft beer selection along with a decent wine selection that sits and 10% to 20% higher retail than your average H-E-B. They also offer catering, but they do NOT have a public bathroom in case you're wondering. If you live downtown, this is a place you'll probably visit. I like to call this my cute, colorful grocery store with the friendly staff, but it's everyone's favorite place, and it lives up to its name with the colors of royal blue accents throughout the store. If you work downtown, this is most definitely one of your lunch spots, or if you have had a night out on the town, I'm sure you have stopped by Royal Blue Grocery, even if it is to stop in to chat with the staff or grab a cup of coffee. We know the staff is great company, and the coffee is good, so why not? I also favored their old-fashioned sandwiches. I have had most of them and like them, but I really like the Reuben with the old-fashioned white bread with all the trimmings on the inside. Their cookies are a big deal, too. Royal Blue Grocery in downtown Austin was super convenient since it was close to the convention center and my hotel. The employees were really friendly and even gave helpful suggestions for places to visit and things to do in the area, which I appreciated. That said, the store is definitely on the pricey side. It's one of the only spots nearby that resembles a traditional store where you can pick up necessities like water and other essentials you'd usually find at a gas station. While it worked in a pinch, the cost might make you think twice if you have other options nearby. read more

Extremely friendly staff and quick service. Only complaint was the meat was extremely chewy. I'm an Italian sandwhich connoisseur having all the types of meats from across the board but this was teeth pulling apart with my hands chewy. The bread was the best part and so was the sauce. Visiting Austin...would love a nice glass of wine and thought it was nice to patronize something other than Whole Foods. Yeah they have wine, trying to be unique and esoteric...but it is instead overpriced and crappy. This all to say that it is my fault for not going elsewhere. What really made my wine experience terrible was that when I went to pay they had the audacity to ask for a tip...I guess staring at me while I purchased the wine deserved it. Why am I surprised? It's consistent with overpriced and crappy,. It's in really poor taste. I stopped by Royal Blue every morning of my stay in Austin. I was in town for AfroTech and needed something close, gf, and delicious. They have a wide range of grab-n-go eats (both hot and cold bar), a cafe AND a very stocked grocery store with just about everything you can think of. Seriously, there's something for everyone. I specifically stopped by for the breakfast tacos each morning. They provide both options on regular tortillas and gf options, and they did not disappoint!! (Might I add, the diff salsas were great!) Thank you for thinking of us gf folks while keeping it delicious and hearty. I also tried some local kombucha by "Kosmic" and it was *chef kiss* How can I bring "Royal Blue" to Atlanta?! So I've never written a review for a grocery store before. This place is fantastic. Even though it's relatively small, they manage to carry a decent selection of all the necessities. I stopped in on 2 consecutive days for sunscreen and something for breakfast. I loved the fresh chocolate croissant and the small breakfast burritos were outstanding. My cafe mocha put Starbucks to shame. The young man who prepared it, was explaining to me the process of learning to use the machine. Everyone of the employees was incredibly kind and friendly. There's a decent selection of drinks, snacks, salads, and even hot sandwiches, which make for a great lunch or even late meal if you arrive after 10 pm when many spots are closed. My wife and I were staying in the hotel across from RBG and I didn't think that it was going to be all that. I usually buy a jug of drinking water when we travel anywhere but it seems that Austin's water is okay to drink. I also wanted to get some adult beverages and they do have wine, beer and canned mixed seltzer. What really surprised me was the sandwiches. We were doing a lot of activities one day and totally skipped dinner. By 9PM I was hungry but didn't want to order from the hotel. I took a chance and tried the cuban sandwich at RBG and it was pretty good. It was prep'd cold in the display case, but they grilled it there and cut it in half so the wife could take a few bites too. They also have chips, candy, and other snacks. Prices were good! Convenient: right across the hotel and they close at midnight. Parking: none that I could see but we were at the hotel. Staff: Friendly. Not overly friendly, and not snobby. Perfect to not make you uncomfortable but welcomed. Bottom Line: I will go back next time I'm in the area. read more

*Covid/Curbside Review* I ordered curbside during Covid and it was effortless. Called, told them what I wanted, paid over the phone and when I arrived within 5-6 minutes, they met me at the door with my food. The hot Italian sandwich was really good. The panini bread was still warm and crispy by the time I got up to my apartment. The fruit salad is a good mix - cantaloupe, pineapple, grapes and berries. First of all, they serve STUMPTOWN! Whenever I'm at a conference, I'm always on the hunt for good coffee because that's what we survive on - caffeine and lots of food. Otherwise, I would never be able to make it through the 7:30am - 10:00pm days. They also have a bunch of lunch sandwiches as well as breakfast burritos, which makes it a great spot to stop in for a quick bite. Service was nice and always efficient.
