I purchased colored peppers - red, yellow, orange and red + yellow variegated. I also picked up some celery and cucumbers to be eaten in concert with hummus. Randomly, I picked up some oranges only because they looked great. One of my favorite cheeses is sold Central Market - three cream cheese brie. I saw their oranges were on sale. Was thinking about juicing them for breakfast. Or maybe have them at work as a snack. I got a box of Purely Elizabeth cereal. Every so often I have cereal, not often, but I like to have it on stand by. I got tamarinds. They look like brown hard poop, but the insides are sweet sticky and tart. They don't have a small pit inside. Kind of like rating a cherry, you eat around the pit and spit it out. I got this chai concentrate drink because I had this brand at a coffee shop I recently went to. And loved the chai so much, I wanted to have it at home. Wish me luck I can recreate the drink. I want to give Sheana a shout out. I wasn't able to find the chai I was looking for. So I asked. She had never heard of it, she suggested the tea area, but I didn't see it. Then she showed me on her cave trail Market map where exactly it's located. I didn't even know they had a map. I just go up and down all the isles looking for what I'm in need of. But the map was great. I found it exactly where she said. So thankful for Sheana for going above and beyond to locate an item I was looking for. I had an email from Central Market with a coupon. It was spend $40.00 and get $5.00 off. Which is a nice little savings. My total was $55.00 dropped it down to $50.00 and it was things I needed and was going to buy regardless of a coupon. My cashier was nice. Greeted me when I walked up to her. I did have Kim bag my groceries for me. And she was nice as well. For some reason, maybe the coupon, maybe it's because the new sale ad came out, but Thursday in the afternoon was packed. The parking lot, which is large, was full. I circled around a few lanes just to find a parking spot. So they were busy on Thursday. read more

Central Market never disappoints. Fresh fruits and vegetables, beverages, fresh breads, pastries, and soo much more. This time found a whole arrey of cold pressed juices and green teas. They have options in mixed fruit, antioxidant version, single fruit, apple cider variations etc. Got the Orange Carrot Ginger. Opened it right there in the store, it was very refreshing, half was over even before I paid for it. Since it is fresh juice, the shelf life advised is 4 days. Next, went searching for green tea. The aisle is very well organized and decorated with huge posters on top explaining the various kinds of teas and their effectiveness. The posters did their job, I spent a lot of time wondering if I need more sleep to get energy, or drink the energy tea for direct impact instead... (wink) . Finally settled on the caffine free hibiscus tea. Looked like a good option. Must visit again (and again). read more

THE BIG: Located in North Central Austin inside the Central Park shopping center. Grocery store + Gelateria + bar. Plenty of parking in the private lot. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I come to Central Market when I want some fancy fruit or to look at their expansive wine selection. There was a time during Oktoberfest that the employees dressed in traditional German outfits and the store was dressed to the nines. If you're looking for gelato, you dont have to go far since there's a small ice cream shop near the self checkout area. Also a friendly neighborhood bar to kick back and get some affordable drinks. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, I really enjoy shopping at Central Market. Tons of different and exotic options that you won't find at your local HEB. read more

All right folks, I see that I need to spend a little bit more time in central market on another day outside of Tuesday where I come to get roses. I was out of some of my juicing supply, so I decided to grab some veggies and take a tour of the store a little bit further. Honestly, it's a happy place and it gives me a form of peace that have some good music in my ears and walk around the store to see all the neat and yummy choices. I got some food from the grocery section! I tried the arugula salad that had cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and this yummy pesto sauce. I also got K tonic kombucha, which was a coconut pineapple flavor. I really like this layout of Central Market. They have a bunch of seating on the first floor and also the second floor, both inside and outdoor available. As always, the bathrooms and areas are very clean. read more

This might very well be the best supermarket I have ever visited. The variety of produce and broad selection offered at the butcher's counter and seafood section are unrivaled. They even grow their own mushrooms. Fantastic wine selection, large bakery section, and lots of options at the deli for either sliced cold cuts or a quick lunch to grab and go. Build your own bouquet for relatively cheap as well. The cafe is consistently good and cheap, the gelato is excellent, and the coffee is solid. Never a long line for anything--check out is a breeze, I am always served gelato instantly, and cafe line is consistently short. The Central Market on Lamar sells old meat. I have had steaks and hamburgers that are brown inside and smell several times recently. Look at the meat in their counter CAREFULLY. You will consistently see brown hamburger and other meat with brown spots. The packaged Waygu burgers have had old meat in them three times I have bought them. I question their food safety practices as their meat is visibly brown inside the case many times I go there. I will no longer eat at the cafe or purchase prepared meals from them. Very soured on the entire store after my fourth purchase of spoiled meat in the past two months. read more

It's taken me a while to visit this place and we were pleasantly surprised. The playground is huge with lots of open space and there were plenty of kids there. You order at the counter inside and we got the pizza, Cesar salad, turkey club and burger. Then some hot chai teas because it was a little chilly. The food was pretty good. We were there for about 2 hours and there is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. When we left, we grabbed some gelato and were on our way. Highly recommend if you have kids. read more

Central Market is the elevated older sister of HEB. She's just as cost efficient, offers a ton more organic options, always has the freshest produce and celebrates in fun, unique &/or seasonal events. The seafood, meat, pastries, and fresh breads are impressive -- far more abundant than what you'll find at a typical H-E-B. The way they display their items is fun and satisfying. I love it here. We love a Central Market shopping trip! My fiance and I enjoy roaming grocery stores and finding fun and unique food items to try - this place has it all. The produce section is always filled with fresh items, and you can find some unique fruits and veggies to try! My fiance loves the butcher section, they have some specialty things like rabbit and octopus, but they also carry the staples as well - we love coming here for fresh clams and mussels. The pantry aisles also carry the generic central market brand and some things you can find at HEB too, so it's a good mix of high end and budget friendly items. Plenty of parking and the hot foods section has so much variety - definitely rivals Whole Foods, but better in my opinion. read more

I went to the Central Market cooking school for a cooking class. The class started at 6:30pm and check in started at around 6:05pm. I arrived right around 6:25pm. I was seared at a table of four. We all had name tags which took the initial awkwardness of meeting new people away. Executive chef Sid welcomed us, explained what we were cooking, some history about the chef author and the food we were cooking for the class. We were instructed to wash our hands and wear our aprons. We were served a white wine while waiting for everyone to settle in. We started with the dessert portion of the cooking because that had the longest cooking time. We then cooked the appetizer portion of our class, and sat down to eat while the cooking school staff cleaned up the kitchen. I love cooking but hate washing dishes so this was an awesome part of the class. We then washed our hands and learned how to make the other two dishes. We then plated and ate our creations. We were served a red wine with our meal. I recommend this for a date night or a special friends' night out. The wine pours were nice and heavy. Parking was very friendly. Who doesn't love cooking adventures without the cleaning part? I do! And I bet you do too! I recommend 5/5 read more

Central Market is an exceptional grocery store experience. Not only can you find every food item of your dream, you also can sample almost anything from their meat and cheese deli areas. I was so impressed by the set up of their produce section and how thoughtfully everything was placed throughout the store. Considering the quality, things were reasonably priced and it made me consider moving to Austin! I overindulged in their pecans and smoked chipotle turkey meat. I wish I had brought a checked in luggage because they had an impressive selection of chocolate nut spreads. To end my grocery trip, I got 2 scoops of their delicious gelato- perfect way to end your Central Market excursion! read more

Of course I love HEB! It would be completely in America to not. Central is a different level the prepared food is really delicious! The Tarragon salad is out of this world, the seafood section was incredible and the bakery was WOW!!! it was my first time at central and I enjoyed shopping there. One of my favorite grocery stores in America! I love their premade bakeries and gelato section. The tiramisu and blackberry gelato are amazing. Produce is wonderfully diverse and fresh - the mushrooms, apples, tomatoes, potatoes, etc. I have never seen so many kinds before and all so fresh. I appreciate that they only sell good quality produce because with HEB sometimes you have overripe avocadoes or old apples. Throughout June, there is live music from 5:30-8pm and huge patio seating with a nearby playground for kids. Lovely area and supermarket. read more

I always find everything I need, lines move fast, there's live music on the weekends and random evenings, a cafe where you can either order meals or heat up pre-made cold meals from the store to eat there and there's always parking. Best of all, the produce section is banging, soups hit the spot, the bakery has all the goods and staff are always eager to help. I love it there so very much! Central Market is just a ridiculously awesome grocery store that just turns the dial up to 11. You don't need to be a foodie to appreciate this store, but it helps. CM is an old Austin gem, and every visit is more like a fun culinary adventure than a normal trip to the grocery. The stuff that is awesome: the insane produce, meat/fish butcher alley, great beer and wine selection, the cheese, the bakery, the deli and house made gourmet products, the sandwiches, the desserts, the restaurant. CM also features an insane, family friendly patio and outdoor play area. My son is a teenager now, and he spent countless days raising heck on the playground as a little guy. Bottom line, this place is an absolute institution and a gem. Don't let the crowded parking or the crowds scare you off. This place is legit. read more

What can I say about "The CM" as we call it at my house? It's the best. The one on South Lamar and others I've been to in Houston have such a confusing layout. This one is amazing. Efficient. It flows. The produce is incredible. The items are always so unique and the staff is always so helpful. Parking can be an issue sometimes, but you just need to go not on a Friday night or Sunday. We recently stopped by Central Market (N Lamar) with out-of-town guests to pick up a few things. And, we wanted to show our guests around the store. We live farther away from CM than in times past, so it's not often that we're in that part of town. CM market is an amazing place full of just about anything you could want. Almost every section of the store is over-flowing with the "the best of" whatever you're looking for... produce, meats, seafood, beer, wine, gelato, bakery, soup and salad bar, etc. You name it. We didn't have time to sit down at the CM cafe, but this is a place to get consistently good grub. I really enjoyed shopping at Central Market while I was visiting Austin. It was massive and had tons of speciality and non-specialty items and foods. I also really enjoyed seeing local offerings interwoven on the shelves and showcased. I purchased a variety of items, ranging from produce, to locally roasted coffee, to bakery, and everything was super impressive and of high quality. This is for the cheese shop specifically. I was looking for a specific type of cheese called Oma. I had it in California a few weeks ago and it was absolutely delicious. I found it online and asked the cheese guy if they had it and showed him a picture of it and described it. He literally just said "no." Then looked away and went back to wrapping cheese. I then said "I guess I'll just look around myself," to which there was no reply. I'm in my 60s and I feel like I'm just getting ignored. I came for the cake! My friend has purchased some amazing and delicious cakes here so I came here for a tres leches cake. Be sure to call in advance as they do get busy with orders and you want to be sure they have your cake there when you need it! The ordering process was smooth and easy. I arrived and was able to get my cake. I just wanted a tres leches cake with the fruit on top (how they have it on display). I thought the cake was delicious and honestly I am not big fan of tres leches since it's spongy. So that should tell you this cake was good. Fruits on top were fresh and good. Yum! My band was hired to play there in mid-August for a 2.5 hr show and have yet to get paid. This is the 2nd time we've had issues getting paid by HEB/Central Market. Normally, a band is paid at the end of a gig, but we agreed to allow them to send us a deposit the day after the show. Apparently they've moved their corporate offices recently to Dallas from San Antonio and the office staff who are supposed to handle the issue keep giving us the run around - we've submitted the same paperwork to them now 7 times and they're still asking for it. We submitted it via email as well as through their portal, and have made several phone calls to a very nasty staff who speak to us like we're idiots. Although, dealing with the local staff at our prior gig wasn't really any better. Since we've played for HEB in the past and they already had our information, we didn't think we'd have issues again, but were informed AFTER THE FACT that they kick you out of their system now after 90 days of inactivity (this is where treating musicians like a food vendor is just plain stupid). We were actually asked by a non-profit to play for their event that night (not our first time playing for them) and Central Market was in charge of paying us. Sadly, we probably won't help out the non-profit if they do their event at Central Market again unless they agree to pay us and have Central Market reimburse them.
