Blas the young cashier had a twinkle in his eye and a smile that made a hectic shopping trip go good. Store was clean and I truly enjoy having to check out with someone respectful tactful and sincerely helpful. Thank you Blas R. read more

This Heb has changed so much, I have shopped here for 13yrs, it concerns itself with the tourist, not the community, its mangers pretend like they are concerned with ur issues as a customer, b never see a change all be. They still charge for bags even though the courts has spoken that its not supposed too. Walmart doesn't charge, Dollar Tree doesn't charge. read more

While it's cheap and generally has everything you'll need, I find it can be dirty and disorganized. The main advice i'll give you: check your receipt at the register before you leave with your bags! 7 out of the last 7 times I've been there and left with groceries, I've had to go back because the clerk didn't scan my coupons, or they didn't give me the deal on the flyer/posted in the aisle, or they scanned more items than I had put on the belt. The HEB app doesn't sync with most of their registers, so those coupons don't go through either, but I've written that off as a lost cause... read more

UH! In a rental car at the moment and dont have my reusable bags at the moment. Stopped for a couple of items and went through the self checkout. The dispenser is out of plastic bags. The attendant takes the HEB basket i was using so I ask him to refill the plastic bag dispenser. He says, "We don't use plastic in the self checkout. We sell the twenty-five cent bags." I ask him, "Can't I just use the basket?" "Nope, we don't let them leave the store." Great, I just spent thirty bucks and now they are screwing me for just one....more......quarter!!!! They have plastic bags at the regular checker registers....right? Why not just give me a crappy little bag!!! I guess I'm a little petty but that's pretty much it for the HEB. Too bad, they had OK sushi. Guess I'm stuck with Wal-Mart. It's a lot closer that trekking to the HEB but still... Wal-Mart, ugh. If some one at HEB sees this, WTH. read more

Hey, it's HEB. It's an older one, but gets the job done. Stop in real quick to pick up some things on the way to Barton Springs pool.

They usually have everything u need and are very friendly. Best time to go is early in the morning. Worst time is after work! The workers are very friendly. The only thing I can say I didn't like is that I bought some sausage biscuits on sale and when I went to eat them they were moldy. Just check your on sale items. Other than that homemade tortillas are delicious! read more

Such an awesome store! Don't worry that it's old because it's supposed to be old!!! (BTW people call old "Ghetto" now..) It's one of the ORIGINAL stores (hence the big mural on the side). parking sounds crazy but it's really not that bad compared to riverside... just park a little further away and don't cry that you, God forbid, have to walk. Everyone who works there is always so damn nice and chill! read more

Well, it sounds like people don't like the pharmacy. I hope to avoid pharmacies. At least I try. Nutrition is important. That's why I like this particular HEB. It has healthier options than most. They have a good selection of organic produce and they're cheaper than Whole Foods or Central Market. Aisle 8 has healthy bulk items, kamboucha, Dr. Bronner's--all the good hippie stuff. They also have a decent beer and wine selection. The only thing I don't like about this location is that it is always crowded, but I guess that can't be helped. read more

This pharmacy is the worst. Customer service is 0. Cashiers are slow and don't care and allows people to cut when they like them.

Servicing as a bridge between the have and the have nots HEB does what most stores cannot. It adapts to the market at hand. This HEB has a bulk bin and a natural foods section of its store, along with okay sushi and fresh tortillas, this store has all of you one stop shopping needs. The produce is more regional and some of the "asian" items are somewhat overpriced, the mexican stuff is not too bad. The checkout clerks are pretty too! read more

I had heard rumors about some of the reviews this HEB location had received on Yelp but had never really checked it out. My husband and I have been using this location as our primary grocery store since moving to Austin and we've never had much of a problem with it. I'm glad that we went before checking the reviews, because the way some people describe this place you'd think you were going to a grocery store on the wrong side of the tracks in Kabul. The people who call this location ghetto have clearly never lived in a truly ghetto neighborhood. Or a small town. Or anywhere that isn't located immediately adjacent to a Central Market or Whole Foods. As far as I can tell, this is a fairly classic HEB. The one complaint I have about this place is that it is always packed to capacity and, as someone who gets claustrophobic in huge crowds of people, sometimes I have to flee to the usually empty votive candle/greeting card aisle to take a breather. It carries all your basic items as well as some luxury amenities such as a more expansive produce department with a well stocked organic section, a wide variety of green cleaning products, an impressive selection of beer and wine, bulk food section, and health food/supplement aisle. No, you will not find a huge selection of artisanal bread, free range meat at the butcher, or eco chic cosmetics, but you will find pretty much everything else. The cashiers and baggers are always professionally polite if not outright friendly. In short, we shop here every week for our groceries and have yet to encounter anything that would make us hesitate to return. read more

Just when you thought your complaint about past due or expired meats were taken seriously, they we not. Wife bought some sausages. We opened the package this evening and they were slippery. It is a good idea to check dates but once again : expired and sold expired. Wake up !!! HEB you are going to get all of South Austin sick. read more

Worst company on the planet. The HEB netspend card is a true horror story along with their financial service. The oranges there are green and yellow as the Hancock store oranges are bright orange for the same price. Parking sucks! read more

I love the singing that Jason does! Please don't let a few people that don't like it keep him from having fun and generating some fun south Austin quirkiness. Jason has a great voice and is very friendly. All of the other employees are positive and friendly as well. Let Jason SING! read more

This place is great for people watching. So many varieties! Crappy selection and showing it's age on the inside, the only reason people shop here is out of necessity. It is geared more for the alternative food crowd and not necessarily something for the "traditional" types. read more

Understaffed, overworked. I got fed up after waiting in line behind six customers, and one pharmacy tech working one of three windows. 8 - 10 minute waits are common. the only reason I stayed with HEB so long is I buy my groceries there. But I can finish my grocery shopping and drive to CVS on S. Lamar and Oltof, twelve blocks and get my prescriptions filled faster than I can get it at HEB. Basically, it's customer abuse. read more

As a native Texan, I have been going to HEB my entire life. I love HEB and Central Market and appreciate all they do for the communities in our state. That said, I am so disappointed in the HEB near my home. It's so difficult to find a parking spot and such a hassle to maneuver the parking lot that my husband and I have a routine of him dropping me off to shop while he drives around. The store is dirty, and the produce is not high quality. I wish this place would get an upgrade because it is in a convenient location for several south/central Austin neighborhoods. read more

As far as HEB's go, this isn't one of the better ones. It gets really crowded most of the time. The store itself isn't half as nice as other ones I've been to. The selection is also a lot less than the other stores I've been to. Other than that, it's a decent grocery store. They have most of what you need, just not everything. read more

I've lived in Austin all my life so I may just be used to all the weirdness but if I may just put one thing out there; reading these yelp reviews actually seeing that people are complaining about parking is a joke what do you expect H-E-B to do about that, you can't change asshole drivers that think it's okay to speed through a parking lot. And another thing just for the record, the security guard may carry a gun but it is only for protection of the customers... Duhh I mean it's not like he'd shot just any one for no reason, even if your trying to run off with merchandise (which believe me because were in the downtown area probably happens a lot) it's meant for if a fucking psycho comes inside and tries to rob the place THEN his gun would probably be useful. Don't you think. On a positive note the employees are so friendly and I love to feel engaged in like I'm important when I go to my usual H-E-B which is on William cannon and South first the cashiers literally have conversations with each other while they're checking me out I feel like I'm not important and what they're talking about is usually bullshit or exchanging sexual comment. I have to say this H-E-B always has a lot of Coupons throughout the store and the website carries just as much. Before it started shopping at H-E-B I mostly shop at Walmart the one reason I can say I love H-E-B is because when I was working for tips and only made $20 cause it was a slow night I know that I could go to H-E-B and buy enough food for my family for a week I wish there was someway I could shake the hand of the person who started H-E-B in the person who is currently running because it wouldn't be hard Jack up all these items to retail prices but with good deals, competitive prices and amazing staff staff why would I shop anywhere else DONT LISTEN TO ALL THE SCARY AND RIDICULOUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HEB.. It's definitely the best place to shop read more

I used to despise this grotty grocery store, which unfortunately is the closest one to my house, but as long as I manage to hit one of those brief windows where it's not distressingly jammed, the people watching (including the clerks and baggers) almost makes up for the general inadequacy of the store itself. I also enjoy the weird variety of music on the PA. Sometimes it's fairly obscure R&B classics, or the B-52s, and the next time it's bad soft rock. Besides being small, it's so poorly arranged -- they have a ton of unnecessary junk in the front, making it extra cramped, and it's esp. difficult to maneuver out with your cart after 9 p.m., when they lock the doors by the produce dept. and the main exit becomes the only entrance. . read more

If you're just going here to get some groceries (and not then eat them off of the floor of the place, and judge the character of everyone goes in there, as some other yelpers seem to do?) you can't go wrong. Go in, get your groceries, go out, don't be mean to people, and you've had a great little experience. read more

This HEB's parking lot is dangerous at times. There are too many cars and people when it's really busy which is the majority if the time. Even with the lack of parking they have a snow cone stand right in the middle of the parking area. HEB is the only store in town which does not provide paper bags and it should for customers that want them. Randall's, Whole Foods, and it's own Central Market provide reusable paper bags. Just bring some in from CM or charge 10 cents for one if the customer needs one like Home Depot does. HEB is not the best deal in town like many think and their customer service is almost non-existent. read more

I keep on going there because the cashiers are always smiling, cheering and some try to make your day better! Easy to find everything! I shop there all the time! Some managers are on top of things and are always willing to help! Even if it's old, I love the vibe and the customers' diversity! Ps: .. and yes, the parking lot gets a little packed when the kids get out of school and at 5pm. I would recommend you shop later during the day! read more

known in my set of friends as the "HEB of Broken Dreams" this place is a dirty chaotic mess. The worst HEB in town. Poor selection, can never help if you need it. They are constantly remodeliing and moving stuff around. read more

Not the best HEB ever, in need of some much needed TLC. Needs major renovation that's for sure. The parking is always full but I seem to always find a spot. Just not a lot of selection when it comes to produce or store brand stuff or prepared stuff. The one near campus is much better with regards to selection but take note that one is a mad house. read more

Maybe after spending too much time away from the normal shiny HEB's I've forgotten how great they are...but I don't think this HEB is as bad as I used to. If you haven't been in this location in the past few years it's now significantly different. They carry more quality products and have been redoing the interior so it's cleaner and easier to get around. Yes, it's crowded and sometimes there is a dirty hobo walking around talking to himself because it's raining outside and the HEB is dry...but most of us are used to that by now. The only thing I don't like about all of the new things going on is that they took away the olive bar. The olive bar at Whole Foods ends up being way too expensive and now it's the only option. read more

This review is actually for the products I received when ordering from this store through Instacart. This was my first experience with HEB - I mostly shop at Randall's since I am familiar with Safeway through Los Angeles (Vons) and Chicago (Dominick's - now closed). I must say the prices weren't too bad (of course, they are no doubt marked up by the delivery service) and the products of high quality. I look forward to actually shopping in the store at some point. read more

I just started shopping at HEB because I'm on a budget and need some good food. This supermarket looks like it's been around for a while, but has everything I need in stock. I've been coming during off hours so I can't speak for crowds. I like to buy my meats and vegetables here because everything is really cheap. I also like that they have precut and prepared green beans and broccoli so it makes my cooking much easier. The meat is also very cheap and I don't have to break the bank. read more

This is a small and crowded HEB. Of course it is the only HEB in downtown area, so if there is no other HEB on your way home, expect to be in the check out line for awhile. read more

My search for "cheapest tampons" returned this H-E-B as #1 result. Without thinking twice I immediately jumped in my car, started imitating my best police siren and sped to this location, running all stop signs and red lights. Once inside the store I swiftly grabbed two carts like the boss I am and raced to the treasured aisle where I found a plethora of tampons, wall-to-wall, at incredibly low prices. With such merriment I filled two carts to the brim and knowing there would be money left in my wallet. Now my girlfriend is overjoyed with a lifetime supply and I happy with cash left to treat myself to a six-pack of Miller High Life. Life is good! read more

There are several things wrong with this store. It is disgusting to even go there. I am from the Florida where we have this amazing grocery store called Publix. It is nicer, cleaner and cheaper than HEB. I miss that place. They always has dozens of things as buy one get one free. But, with the HEB on South Congress, that is another story. Here is what's wrong with it: -Dirty! It is just filthy. I'm talking bugs and dirt on the floor. I wonder if they ever actually clean the floors. -The employees more the most part look like lifeless drones. -They block off several parts of the store at night to restock and dont give a damn if the sole reason you are at the store is blocked off. -I feel like I need to check the expiration date on everything to make sure it is still good (and I do) -I got into the store, find something I like, come back the next week and it isn't in stock. Such instances happen to me all the time. Why can they not find a way to keep their products stocked? I mean if it was once in a while when it's on sale, sure, but this is a constant problem. MAINTAIN YOUR INVENTORY! It seems so simple. -The layout of the store is so illogical. Who decided the placement of everything? The milk, cream cheese, cheese, and other dairy products are all together, but where is the yogurt? Down some other isle. I could use some flatbread. Where do I check? The bread isle, of course. But nope, not there. It's clear on the other side of the store next to deli meats and produce. -The parking lot. It is a fairly large store, but the parking lot is ALWAYS full. The lot should be significantly larger for how large the store is. -Checking out. Who decided that at 5pm only 3 registers should be open? They are slow and I always seem to find myself bagging my own groceries. How about you get some of the dozen people just standing around talking in front of some registers and the rest bagging? As far as I know there are only two reasons it is still open: 1) Location. It is close to where a lot of people live despite all the negatives, sometimes it's not worth driving 5 extra minutes for two things that they should have. 2) Some people just can't afford to buy everything at a Whole Foods or Central Market. There is nothing in the middle between the trash that is HEB and the expensive Whole Foods. And when money is an issue, we just have to end up going to HEB for most of our food by default, not by choice. Some people have complained about the clientele that HEB attracts, personally I don't care. The bottom line is HEB is dirty and a poor grocery store. read more

Got my nieces cake yesterday from the bakery and everyone loved it! I live in Round Rock but always order cakes from this HEB location...two thumbs up read more

The parking here is awful!! But even worse is the pharmecy. The lines are always long and never enough cashiers. Rx are NEVER ready when promised. So you fight traffic, try to park, wait in line and are told it's not ready. Do you wait another 15-20minutes. Awful!!! Worstpharmecy in austin. Will change ASAP read more

About what you'd expect from a lower end grocery store. Bread was shit. Produce and chicken were fine. Reasonably cheap.

I love H.E.B., but this one is just a little sketchy. The good news is that you can buy Topo Chico there by the case, and the H.E.B. Brand Peanut Butter has become a favorite--it has minimal ingredients and I know what each of them are! The parking is always dreadful, and it seems like there is always a long wait. This store does seem to be improving, though it is known among my friends as a place to get leered at (very uncomfortable)! read more

I'm definitely a fan of this HEB but mainly because I'm not a fan of driving 13 miles to the better HEB in Westlake. I've been shopping at this HEB for 10 years. There is room for improvement, but in the grand scheme of Austin grocery stores, this HEB is good. The produce selection at this store is good with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, including organics, all at reasonalbe prices. Too often I find "food" in some state in inedibility-- moldy, mushy, rotten, or infested with fruit flies. It's not hard to throw out the avocados that are liquid inside. Still, compare this HEB to the Riverside or East 7th locations and then tell me where you want to buy your lettuce. The meat selection is great. I don't understand the one-star whiners complaining about trying to by fish out of season. What do you expect? Whole Foods? Then go shop there. There is a good selection of canned, frozen, and boxed foods, as well as eggs, cheese, and dairy. They also have a good selection of "specialty" foods like Asian foods. And they have a bulk section, another plus over the Riverside and East 7th HEBs. The line for the pharmacy is a great place to get TB so I avoid it at all costs. If you don't like shopping when there are a lot of kids around, I suggest you go in off-hours like Monday - Friday before 2 pm or after 10 pm. It's a 24 hour store. The staff here is nice and helpful, and the store is clean. I really don't understand the 1 and 2 star ratings. Compared to other HEBs, this one is very good. read more

I really HATE this HEB. It is so ghetto and the only time I need to go to HEB is if I need ground beef or those delicious HEB pizzas in the deli. I really don't like going to HEB in general and maybe that's because all the ones around are ghetto and just trashed out. I went to the HEB on Bee Caves and that one was REALLY nice and they even have self check outs. I like checking my own groceries out. I live on Congress and the only HEB's around are this location, the one on Bluff Springs and 35 frontage road, and the one on S.1st. read more

Customer service is great. Staff is wonderful. When lines get long it nice to see the crew working to minimize the lines and wait time. Down side here is that most of customers who shop here have no common courtesy for one and other. They walk around like zombies and don't people know how to say "excuse me." Plain rude people and the parking lot is kaoss! read more

This HEB is huge and carries a variety of products. The only complaint I have is that it's difficult to find things in the store. Where they place some items doesn't make sense to me. I was looking for nail polish remover & it wasn't where the nail polish was. It was in the next aisle where they store tampons. I also wanted to buy a body pillow but they didn't have the price listed. It would be nice if they had a price checker or properly listed their prices. read more
