I had a problematic insurance situation, and both the pharmacist and the technicians really went out of their way to get the mess figured out. This was a situation that stretched over several days, and required the pharmacy to make multiple phone calls to the insurance call center, then ultimately get creative with how they filled the prescription so that it fit within the insurance company's requirement (they didn't do anything wrong, there was just a glitch in the system that prevented the prescription from being filled even after it was approved, and they managed to outsmart the system). Best of all, I didn't have to go to the pharmacy and deal with all of this in person. They answered my phone calls, worked it themselves, then called me back with updates and the ultimate resolution. When I went back for a flu shot several weeks later, the pharmacist remembered me. Oh, and I love that they text you when your prescription is ready for pick up. Great. I noticed that another review commented that no one greeted them as they came and went. Perhaps after seeing that review, the store manager corrected the problem, because now the person working the register by the door ALWAYS says hello. The first few times it happened, I was caught off guard because it so wasn't expected. I wasn't sure he was even talking to me, so I ignored him, but then it happened again and again. So, good on CVS for responding to this feedback. Like others, I don't normally review chains, but I thought this was an example of excellent customer service that should be noted.

My first one star review and boy do they ever deserve it! This has been my "go to" grocery store. I overlooked the crowds, no parking, dirty floors and poor selections. It is on my way home from work so I deal with the issues. Tonight however, I can no longer overlook their problems and attitude. On my way into the store, I noticed the security guy, (professionally dressed ;-), cap on backwards, bright green vest and large badge), instructing people to stop smoking next to their car. He moved them to the the designated area in front of the store so everyone can enjoy their habit. I personally don't care if they smoke next to their car. It's better than in front of the door. I stopped about 11PM to pick up 10-15 small items....shampoo, toothpaste, etc and forgot my reusable bag. So I used one of the handheld plastic HEB baskets. After checking out, I walked to my car in the far corner of the parking lot (at 11:30PM) - with the HEB basket. Not knowing I could not take the basket out of the store, suddenly a man comes running up to me yelling something about the basket. At first I did not recognize it was the security guy for he came rushing up behind me. Totally freaked me out! I thought I had been attacked - sadly. I wasn't expecting to be rushed by the security slug. So, I ran to my car, hopped in - STEALING THE BASKET - and sped off. A few blocks away, heart racing, the realization set in.......I stole the HEB handheld basket. OMG. My intention was to empty the contents into my car and return it to the store. (until psycho comes running up to me and yelling) I mean, who the hell steals the basket? Who would want it and what would you use it for? Maybe carry it into Whole Foods, proudly displaying your loyalty to HEB? Did "cap on backwards" security guy get my license plate number? Will I be reported for stealing the basket I planned to return? How do I sneak it back into the store without someone knowing I jacked it? Anyway - I'm done. Here I come Randalls and Whole Foods. I HATE HEB. these extremely rude cashiers will NOT take 'no' for an answer: I go to the checkout and the cashier asks me 'do you want a bag?' I said 'No, Thank You'. next she YELLS at me: SIR, DO YOU NEED A BAG?' again, I repeat 'No, Thank You'. what is with the YELLING?!?!?! Next week, a different cashier: i have 5 items to check out, the cashier asks me 'do i want a bag?', I reply with a firm 'NO'. next thing i know, i have paid and she has charged me for a bag! I explained that I did NOT want a bag, and she said it was 'hard to hear because she is wearing a mask'. excuse me, but do you hear with your mouth? or is it your nose you are hearing with? and because of the yelling last week, i made sure i spoke my initial one syllabic response loud and clear- it was a firm NO. i cannot see how anyone can mistake the word NO, for the word 'yes'. apparently, they do not take 'no' for an answer! first off, i use my own washable cloth bag because PLASTIC BAGS ARE BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. wake up, HEB, you are still in the 20th century. and further- when i go to fiesta, they give you free bags. so HEB = bad, fiesta = good. read more

Ugh what is wrong with this HEB? Bad: -The parking lot is a complete cluster fuck in the afternoon hours (especially after work.) -I don't like seeing a cop on the premise. It can't be a good thing. What is wrong with you people stealing and causing problems in a grocery store? -The aisles, oh the aisles. What is wrong here? They need to update the names above the aisle. I spent 10 minutes looking for toothpaste. That's not the first time. I always, always have a problem finding anything! Come on people. -The cashiers look very sad. Maybe even depressed. I never get a smile, just this expressions of "help me, I'm in hell." -The people who shop here (it's not HEB's fault, but damn there are some scary ass people shopping in this store on a daily basis.) Good: -They do have a small organic section which sells Central Market products. And that's it. It's on my way home so I shop here occasionally and I hate myself for doing it within 5 minutes in. I wish a bomb would go off in this store so the good folks at HEB can start over again. read more

This H-E-B is marginally better than the one on Riverside, which is clearly the 7th circle of hell. When living in South Austin, we referred to this location as "the hipster H-E-B," due to its exceptionally douchey clientele and overpriced prices. Screaming children here typically come with full sleeve tattoos, handlebar mustaches, and Che hoodies. Extra bonus celebrity sighting: J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. On the plus side, this store carries Beanitos as well as my favorite jarred salsa, Texas Texas. Fish section smells like Calcutta. My husband previous worked at Central Market, also owned by H-E-B, which makes all the "organic" store brand sauces. They're all made in the same place, so that ought to tell you who's a sucker for paying more for these items. It's you! Besides, do you really wanna buy anything from a dude named HARRY BUTTS? This H-E-B needs some serious remodeling, especially for being the South Congress location, where lots of tourists are gonna end up. The building and its murals appear very faded and outdated. The murals could be really cool if they were freshly painted, and could probably make it a stand out location. This is also one of the few locations that has no self checkout option, so you're forced to wait in large lines even if you're buying just one item. And lastly, the floor tiles look very worn out, with lots of brown and black splotches everywhere. While I do love H-E-B, this particular one could use some attention on the appearance. read more

Nope, 'fraid not. This location at S. Congress and Oltorf is lost and getting more lost every day. And if HEB corporate thinks it will solve the problem by building a new million dollar (plus) unit with underground parking not one block away from that blood-sucking church across the street, they are sadly mistaken. One thing I appreciate right away: they're open until 11PM every night. So if you suddenly need milk, sugar, or something random late at night, you don't have to knock on your neighbor's door in pajamas and make things weird. But what I've really gotten into is what I call "clearance shopping." Randalls has a surprising number of items marked 50% off, usually because they're close to expiration, seasonal, or being discontinued. I've found great deals on sandwich meats, cheeses, chicken breasts & thighs, beef, hamburger, pork, bacon, yogurt, frozen meals, ice cream, and more. I don't have kids, so I'm only shopping for myself, and I've managed to fill my freezer to capacity. Their meat deals can be especially good. They often run buy-one-get-two-free promotions, and if you check the price per pound, they are very reasonable and competitive. In regards to 50% off examples I've scored large marinated chicken breast for under $3, enough 85/15 ground beef for a couple of patties for around $4 or less, and single marinated salmon fillets for about $3 - you easily pay $15+ at the local restaurants here. At those prices, even a vegetarian might briefly reconsider. They also have a solid wine selection with plenty of markdowns and digital coupon deals. I did some research and some markdowns are better than Costco offerings. Downloading the Randalls app is a must because you can clip coupons that come off automatically at checkout. The app also tracks your purchases and gives you occasional rewards, which adds up if you shop there regularly. Unfortunately I find the recent updates version is not as intuitive to navigate and find the digital coupons but the staff is aware of this and are always willing to help you. Now, I did recently read one of those articles saying we should avoid processed meats, donuts, frozen dinners, and fried foods. Unfortunately, Randalls keeps putting many of those things in the 50% off section, and my willpower is apparently also 50% off. Any leftover donuts and pastries are discounted to $1-$2 for a 6 or 10 pack. I mean come on now. Homer Simpson would go nuts and it's hard to restrain myself. I find this location, along with the Mesa store offers the best donut and pastry deals I've seen. The Ben White location recently changed their butchered meat discount from 50% to 30% so I do not buy meat there anymore. The staff here are all very nice, helpful, and professional. I've become a familiar face at this point, especially because clearance items usually need an associate to approve the discount at self-checkout. If you have a lot of marked-down items, it can take a little extra time, but they've always been patient and polite about it. If you go through the cashier it is much quicker. But make sure to keep an eye on the register because system mistakes do happen more frequently than not but the staff are very good about correcting it. Overall, I really like this Randalls as it's a great spot for late-night grocery runs, solid app deals, and surprisingly great clearance finds - which is catching fire as the other day I overheard a dad and his son calling it a treasure hunt. So if you like hunting for bargains, bring freezer space and self-control. Preferably more of the first than the second.

Usually I get annoyed when people try and talk to me while I'm shopping but this polite kid was friendly, not pushy, and moved on his merry way when I told him that I wasn't interested.

The gas tank is usually out of receipt paper, so I have to go inside. One positive is that the cashier is present, not on the phone or in the back. You know that red tape on the gas pump that indicates that no one has tampered with the credit card slot? One time I reported that the tape was broken, and the cashier gave me a completely blank stare like he had not been trained to even consider this topic. Today I used their ATM, which also did not have receipt paper. I will be back, but I expect to be annoyed again.

Parking is a bit of a nightmare since they just have a couple spots in front of this shared strip center that is on the road bend in an awkward spot. They have fresh meat, seafood, produce, prepared salads, local salsa, wine, etc. Pretty much everything you would stop for at a corner store but, a bit nicer than a convenience store. Check out was quick and the stuff I bought was of great quality.

Later that day Brodie mart bagged off the 93 octane and it was out for about a week, I must have last of the gas , I assume the ice may have melted and went into their tank.
