I love this place. It makes you want to shop here when entering. They've got some good clothing, items on promotion, very clean store, and nice layout. Please note their return and exchange policy has recently changed. I received a gift and wanted to exchange it (it was still full price, exchanging for a same price item). They would not do it without receipt. I went back with a pic of the receipt, they said no problem, but then said it was past the 30 days. On the receipt it says, and I quote " after 30 days with receipt, you are eligible for an exchange only at the current selling price. Items exchanged must be at equal or greater value". Both items were the exact same price and neither marked down or on sale. No. I called corporate and they said the policy changed 4/28/25 and up to manager's discretion. So only purchase if you know you won't be returning/exchanging or know you only have 30 days. They are RIGID on this. I won't be back. read more

I have found great deals on sale and I had a hard time with size only because I'm learning that wherever they're buying these clothes a size 8 to 12 can mean so many different things and feel so many different ways. Managed to get some nice jeans and a couple of sweaters. I just think for the quality you're getting I rather wait for everything half price. read more

The street sign that read "H&M Home" caught my attention to enter the store as I had never been inside an HM Home store in US!! The store is very well organized and despite the major after holiday sale, it was in great order!! I parsed through the men's section and there was quite a bit of great inventory on sale and regular prices. Made it to the ladies section which at the end of the day was in a bit of disarray as expected but still there was a good selection of women's clothing available. The Home section was by far the best, they have unique decor, china, blankets,... on hand and it was such a joy walking through the section. Unfortunately I could not take too many pieces on my flight with me but still was able to purchase a few pieces; candles, pillow covers and a beautiful cup. Cute location for an H&M. I'm an avid H&M fan and always do my best to check them out whenever I'm traveling. This location is two stories and they carry all of the usual departments. Divided, ladies, men, kids, basics, and they even had the home department here as welll. Racks were organized and not too clumped. Employees weren't friendly but they were around cleaning available for questions. Found a ton of cute items on sale and walked out with a bag of cute stuff. read more

I love the recycling program! Recycle your old clothes in any condition and get a 15% off total purchase coupon to use toward new clothes. You do need to watch them with sale items! Do the math in your head or on your phone before you check out. Not much to set this H&M apart from any other. Like every H&M, I can't decide what's worse, the terrible organization or the blinding white lights. But there's a time when most of us has to walk into an H&M for that piece of clothing we don't have nor want to spend tons of money on. At this one, my girlfriend and I were fortunate enough to find what we were looking for right away. We also appreciated the lack of sales tax, coming from the golden state. Having been both to this location and the one in downtown crossing, I'd say this one is mildly better mostly because of its proximity to other worthy shopping. read more

While I continue to depend on this place to purchase socially accepted clothes which I have no clue of, I often run out of patient once I see the long ass queue formed out of the fitting room. But it maybe because I always made multiple trips to the fitting room. Had to go back to return an item and witnessed some of the worst customer service take place I've seen in my life. Another woman in line wanted to return an unworn set of socks and the staff would not let her return them. This is understandable and I think probably the policy of the store BUT then the woman asked if they could just take them (no refund) and the employee still refused. The woman asked if they had a garbage by the checkout that she could throw the socks away in them and again the employee refused to even let the woman throw away the socks which she had already purchased. Between the 2 H&Ms within walking distance from each other (possibly more stores that I don't know of yet), this is most definitely my preferred store. There are quite a few key differences between the 2 stores. Here are my reasons for liking this one more than the other: + The entrance to the men's section is from the Boylston St side and although the 2 sections are in the same store, the men's section is less hounded by the collective cacophony because of the less business street side entrance. + This is a smaller of the 2 stores and hence the collections are limited but more focused. In essence, the men's section has the same variety of products but very well arranged. + The crowd: There is a big difference in the kind of clientele this store gets as compared to the one in Downtown X-ing. And hence the shopping experience is far more superior - in my opinion. + Staff and management: The staff here is much more well equipped (or efficient) to handle the crowd during peak weekend hours. Lines are never longer than a reasonable amount of wait with no chaos. Happy Shopping!! read more

H&M is IKEA for clothes. They're a cheap Swedish chain, and I think it's also Britain's biggest clothing retailer these days. And now it's here too, and soon to follow will be the other great fashion budget stores Tara (Spain) and Uniqlo (Japan) - I can't wait. Gap probably can. Anyway, like most Brits under a certain 'knows-better' age I get A LOT of my clothes from H&M. A lot. I actually have to carefully pick what I wear before I go to H&M as it can get embarrassing to walk in head-to-toe in their gear. The reason I go is because it's so cheap (especially for London) and it's got a good selection of fashion and timeless basics. And the stuff fits me - unlike American clothes. Spotting H&M in Boston was definitely one of the deal-breakers when I was choosing to move here. The key to H&M shopping is to go once a season and get 5 or 6 new items. That gives you enough for a whole up-to-date wardrobe that will last you the season and maybe the next few. Don't expect much more from H&M clothes - they're designed to be disposable and in some cases are cheaper to replace than dry-clean. And don't treat H&M as somewhere to just pop-in, take lightly and leave with a nice item. It's not that easy - shopping in the stores can get ugly on a busy day, so take it seriously. Thankfully this Newbury branch is usually quite civilized. It actually makes the Oxford Circus store in London now seem like a retail Fallujah. H&M is the place to go when you need to pick up a basic sweater, shirt, whatever. Who else has 10 different styles of black sweaters or white button down shirts? If you are looking for a bit more funk, rest assured, H&M's Euro-style fashion sensability has got plenty of hip & trendy (if disposable) pieces. The stock rotates frequently, so it feels somewhat fresh. Also great for cheap accessories that you can work into your hi-low mix with some finesse. Having said all that, I must add, H&M is way better in the suburbs--or at least in a decent mall. There are two locations in Boston (Downtown Crossing & Newbury St.), and they both suck because they are out on the street. We are talking mob-like crowds here, with mile-long lines for both fitting rooms and cashiers. It's enough to make a girl turn right around and walk back out. read more

I typically never find anything I like in H&Ms but this one was great. I was shocked at the size of it, two floors with an escalator in the middle of the store. For 11am on a Tuesday morning this place was hopping with people. I ended up trying a lot of outfits on and purchased a dress and a tshirt. Upstairs was all women's, and the men's selection downstairs was more than I have seen at any other H&M in the area. The only downside to the store was that I waited a good 10 minutes in line to check out. Hint to the ladies: if you're upstairs and you want to try something on in the fitting room and the lines are long, I found a fitting room I thought was just for men in the back of the men's section of the store. I really love H&M, and I used to get almost my entire wardrobe from the store in Cardiff, UK. I went here shopping one afternoon with a couple yelpers, and I was pretty disappointed. I found a pair of earrings and some "girly necessities" and that was it. None of us found anything that was wow, and the only sizes they seemed to carry was 0-6. However, the associates upstairs in the dressing rooms were very nice and helpful. Also, they had a great deal on those "girly necessities"...5 for $20. Not bad! H&M is really hit or miss for me. Occasionally, I might find a really interesting top or dress, but usually its just fun to browse and watch all the hipsters go nuts over the plastic jewelry. Some of the jewelry and hair things are cute and really cheap --- but most of it would only look good on you if you are under 25. And that's just the thing about H&M...most of their styles are really out there, too juvenile looking, or only look right on people sporting that long bowl cut that every college girl seems to have these days . At my advanced age of 31 (yes, I'm being sarcastic), I look like an idiot in most of their outfits. Yeah, I guess that there are some people in my age range that look cool in fuschia off-the-shoulder sweatshirts with glitter skulls splayed on the front, but that's a rare woman indeed. Once in a while though, you'll find that gem...that skirt or top that is still cool and unique and looks good on you. Just make sure that you buy the gem when it is on sale because most of the stuff that I've bought there didn't live to see its third washing. read more

I have been a fan of H&M for years, ever since they opened one in my hometown in NY. (I think it was one of the first ones!) The quality isn't there (the sweaters are practically guaranteed to be itchy) but the trendiness factor is there and the price is nice. Its a great place to stop in if you need a new up to the moment outfit that you don't expect to get much wear out of. Don't get me wrong, sometimes you can luck out and a garment from H&M will last you a good amount of time, but in 6 years I have found that is the exception. Most of the time I can go right in and find a ton of things I like, sometimes its more miss than hit. I prefer the Newbury location over the Downtown Crossing location. Newbury carries more lines and is much more fashion forward. I went to DC a few weeks ago to find a cool party dress to wear out and found nothing at the DC store.....it all struck me as either 1. really basic items 2. items for work or 3. trends that are a season to a season and a half over. So I hoofed it all the way to the Newbury store where I had to choose between 5 awesome casual dresses that were nowhere to be found in the DC store. I don't think I'm even going to bother going all the way downtown anymore. The two stores here in Boston are very good in comparison to other stores in the company- in some locations in places like Philly there is only a small limited women's section. Two final thoughts- this store gets crazy busy. You have to go first thing in the morning, do your business, and get the heck out of there. Also, they usually have great unique accessories for insanely cheap....I know I can count on them for that. read more

After living in London on the pound, and having to survive as a fashionable girl on a small budget, I learned to LOVE H&M and their uber stylish clothing at SUPER affordable prices! This location is by far the trendiest, but because of that, they often run out of SUPER COOL items much quicker than the Downtown crossing and Cambridgeside ones! GUYS: Its a toss-up over which one is better for YOU! I think THIS location has much trendier items, but sometimes that front section of the Downtown Crossing one can look pretty good! Spend time window shopping on the rest of Newbury to pick out the trends you like and then head to H&M to get them for a great deal! read more

H&M is kind of cool, until you notice the dress your girlfriend is wearing on someone else, or that shirt you bought thinking it was a beautiful unique snowflake is on some other people. Now with something like American Apparel which is designed to actually BE as generic as possible, H&M is cusping on both fashion and genericness, which is a little uneasy. I prefer a little more unique and special things for my own stuff, so it's a little harder to swallow for me. Which leads to the dilemma: H&M is a chain. A great chain. But is it going to be a victim of its own success? For what you're getting, the price also seems a bit high. Me? I use it for a source of better fitting dress shirts and occasionally some ties, although I find their tie quality to be a mixed bag. I have a few tops from here and they have a pretty low quality feel, but eh, whatever. I personally like uniqlo better, but we don't have one of those here yet. read more

Let me first start by saying I'm giving this H&M 3 stars as I absolutely can not stomach going into the H&M at Downtown Crossing. I tend to only go into this H&M if its during the week before 5, or very early on a weekend day. It may be too soon to leave a review as the experience of going into H&M this afternoon is still fresh in my mind. And just encase you haven't picked up on that, it was an absolute madhouse. This location isn't exactly big, as it does take up 2 floors, the floors themselves are very narrow and hard to navigate through with a lot of people around. Especially since the clothing racks are packed in there as well. There new system of having the dressing room line upstairs wrap around into the intimate section? Absolutely ridiculous. People leave discarded clothes hanging on wracks with bras and underwear. How am I to get to my padded bra everybody if you keep putting your camel toe causing romper in my way? I've figured out the general location of most of the items that I look for which makes it easier. I still have a system worked out for when I want to go shopping here. I make one trip to look around and not buy anything. A second trip to try some things on and potentially buy one or two things. And my third trip to really get what I want and have been looking after. That may be a bit excessive, but I hate shopping and I work close by so its an easy trip for me. My general level of tolerance in this store is less than 30 minutes. After that, I start going a little crazy from listening to all the gossip happening around me. Like what outfit is going to make someone look the skankiest in, or the woman that's insisting on picking out every single shirt for her boyfriend. Throw up on my shoes, please. The staff? Angsty young people working retail jobs they hate. Can you blame them for giving you attitude when handing you that "7" tag and directing you to the last dressing room? Why do I go here? Its cheap compared to a lot of places and the clothes won't fall apart as easily as say Forever 21. read more

I truly believe that H&M should really stand for "Hodgepodge & Mismatch". I think I continue to return to H&M stores in general because I suffer from a combination of being a glutton for punishment and extreme naivete. I always think that the next time I visit, that will be the one where it will be organized, I'll find things that are actually sized properly, and that it won't be overrun with crazed people looking for the next big bargain. This particular H&M differs only slightly from other H&M's I've been to, which I think tallies around 5 or 6. The bi-levels are a plus, but I'm still not sure who came up with the men's/women's layouts. Most women's fashions are located upstairs, but some also are hiding downstairs next to the men's clothing. And unfortunately, whomever decides on sizes for H&M is either on a lot of drugs or has one hell of a measuring device, because the sizes are never, ever accurate (I can fit into a size 2 pair of pants, and on the next rack, the 6 is the only one that will even zipper up), that means you absolutely have to try things on - which is a nightmare. You'll be waiting in line longer than a half hour usually. The lines for the registers are long as well, but they have a good thing going and usually it's a pretty speedy exit, which is a fabulous thing - because by the time you are waiting for a register, all you want to do is forget you spent your time there. read more

One of the things I love about H&M is how totally different clothes stand out in each store. When I go here, I find things I never would have glanced at downtown, even though they have the exact same merchandise. The dressing room wait here can get incredibly long, so fill your hands/ bag/ hands of your shopping partners with items to try on before you get in line. I know, I know - this just makes the wait longer for everyone else, but it's how you survive the game that IS H&M. read more

It is true that you hardly see any staff in this particular shop. And the layout is so poor that the cashier desk looks miles away squeezed in the back room. The men's selections are really basic, that means utterly boring. I was told in Washington st shop manager that their selection is boring because of Boston men's conservative taste. *sigh* When will we men grow some confidence in style? The best H&M experience was in Oxford Circus, London then any shop in Manhattan, Amsterdam, but compared to these I mentioned, this is almost like their outlet. read more

One thing I will never understand about H&M is how they have these awesome outfits on the mannequins that are absolutely nowhere to be found in the store. Whenever I've asked a sales associate for help finding said elusive outfit, they've stared at me in terror before either running away or admitting that they too have no idea. I like that they do the one off designer things every year (save for the Madonna line, which was ridiculous, she's a pop singer, not a fashion icon), and I like to buy summer dresses there because I won't care if they get sun bleached or otherwise damaged since all of the clothing falls apart after 5 months anyway. The cuts on everything are awkward, but every once in a while you will find a real gem there...it's just whether you can tolerate sifting through piles of horrendous crap to get to it and then waiting on life for 30 minutes before getting to try it on, before waiting on line another 30 minutes to purchase it. read more

The store is in my building so I go there more frequently than I really want to. I think I am addicted to it - I go there over and over but don't really like it, but can't stop. On the plus side, the Back Bay store caters to professional women, so it has some work-appropriate pieces and less of the studded and sequined items of other branches - I actually prefer the DTC location for its drugged hipster vibe, but it's out of the way for me and also DTC itself gives me the heebies. If you're over 22 you need to be careful what you buy here unless you want to look like you're trying way too hard. And if you tend toward shopping addiction and actually work near here you will find that you buy things because there are just so many of them and there is always something new - and then you will realize it is cheap looking and you will return it and then you will do the same thing again. If you go at lunch or on the weekend you might want to be in a patient mood, because there are frequently 30 people in line for the dressing rooms - use the men's. read more
