Very poor consignment system in my opnion which declined over the years. Literally felt like I was being scolded the last few times I went. "You didnt follow policy" after being told to do things one way by an associate. "Your bag is semi reusable, you broke a rule if this happens again, you wont be allowed to sell here." Then, when a high priced $100 item got damaged on their hold and I politely asked if they covered this they told me no and banned me from consigning there for asking. Very controling aspect and thank you for letting me stop accepting that treatment. I found other consignment stores or buy back places in the area that have been 100% positive and collaborative. Loved my experience here! I'm a regular at Buffalo Exchange, and I think Raspberry Beret has some higher quality items as well as more vintage finds -- all at great prices! I remember the store being closer to Porter, and now at its new location down Mass Ave closer to Arlington, it's easily accessible by bus and a short walk from Davis. There are two floors, and the clothing & jewelry pieces seem well-curated. The space isn't as overwhelming as other secondhand/consignment stores like the Garment District. It's a manageable, enjoyable shopping experience, and the employee working that day was friendly and helpful. When she saw me with some items in hand, she asked if I'd like to start a fitting room and took them from me. More mobility means more shopping! I lucked out because on the day I discovered them, they were having a sale! All items were 30% off, with winter coats and hats/scarves more heavily discounted. Considering that items are generally priced 1/3 lower than their original price, these discounts made them even more affordable. Which meant I could buy more! I definitely plan to be back, as new items are constantly added and after a month, items are discounted. This is a great place to find cool items to add to your wardrobe while still being sustainable and cost-conscious... as well as shopping local! read more

Pretty well curated, fashionable item at this place! I'm usually not a consignment shop visitor..or even a regular shopper of clothes by any means. I was in Raspberry Beret because I got a local business gift certificate and was surprised at how well curated the items at this shop is! When I think of consignment shops, I typically think of well-used items, but not at raspberry beret! Lots of items look nice...and are of fashionable brand..and as attractive as new items, I thought! I was able to get a nice looking sweater that fit my gift card allowance even! Definitely a good shop to check out. Such a cute place! The consignment items were quality, and I found that - though the prices were a bit high - they were running some decent sales. When I researched, I discovered the sweater I purchased retails much, much higher than what I got it for, so I can't complain too much. The vintage pieces in the basement is really quite impressive, and I don't think I've seen anything in comparison where I'm from in Philly (maybe the store, Retrospect, is the closest). I could have spent considerable hours and coins shopping here, and would have happily spent an hour or so just combing through their vintage alone. Only reserving one star because my friends were not impressed with the customer service here. They stated that they felt like we were being watched when an employee appeared in the basement while we were there and started stocking items. I'd like to give the staff the benefit of the doubt, as they were very pleasant and friendly when I went to check out my items. That aside, an initial greeting and an offer to help with anything would have really made my friends and I feel welcomed. read more

This review is from consignor point of view. I visited this store and felt it was a good match of the items that I recently culled from my closet. The store is nicely laid out and neat and had adequate staffing. However, the consignment policy is unfair and basically amounts to stealing IMHO. Website states "Unsold items after 60 days will be donated to local non-profit, Mass Appeal International ... Items priced by Raspberry Beret at $50 or more are eligible for return by request." The sheet that they provide in-store states "All unsold items at the end of the consignment period are SOLD AS STORE PROPERTY OR donate to charity." (I added capitalization for emphasis.) When you bring items in for consignment, the staff can't tell you what the list price will be (because they "do a lot of research" to set prices), so you have no idea if an item will be over $50 or not. That said, most basic items are less than $50. While I understand it may be a challenge for staff to retrieve unsold items, I don't see why they can't allow consignors to retrieve their unsold items themselves and simply check out with the desk staff? All the other consignment shops I've contacted give the option to retrieve unsold items. Going to see if Covet, Revolve, or other will take my clothes before I go here - even though I think Raspberry Beret fits my style better ... read more

One of the cutest curations I've seen in a consignment store! My friend and Iooked through hundreds of pieces and found some real gems. The employees at the counter were happy to hold the clothes we accumulated on our arms to put on the rack so we could continue browsing and try them on later. You can find some quality designer pieces and currently on-trend items. Although prices are a bit high, the curation is great and the quality of some of the clothes remains spectacular. Although I didn't leave with what I was looking for, I ended up buying other items that I fell in love with. I will definitely visit again when new items go into rotation. read more

A few months ago, I made an appointment for consigning some of my clothes. When I showed up, someone looked through all my items and about ten minutes later, she told me what they would take to try to sell, and what they were returning to me and why. I was set up with an online portal where I could monitor whether things got sold, and at the end of the consignment period, I was paid 40% of the selling price and everything that wasn't sold was donated. I wouldn't recommend consigning anything that you're not okay with the possibility of having it donated, but for cheaper items it's not a bad option. In total I made over $50 for a bag of clothes I was honestly going to donate anyway, and they seemed to have greater success selling my items than I did on Poshmark on Mercari. I was very happy with the selling experience. read more

When I lived in DC, I used to frequent a now-defunct store that featured wares from indie designers. Raspberry Beret reminded me of a girly-er version of that. A girly-er version with reasonable prices! The store graciously hosted a Girls Day Out event for 6 friends and I on a Saturday afternoon. Highlights of our experience: * Adorable selection of hand-sewn bags. My friend and I were ready to fight over a tiny clutch with a hand-sewn heart on it. Tres funny! * $5 bin of brand-new flip-flops with hearts, skulls, and other cutesy designs. * My friend scored a fantastic, vintage kimono. (Oh, the envy!) * Unique necklace and earring set for $15 in my signature color--hot, screamin' pink! The jewelry selection was great. The pieces ranged from tiny/sparkly/delicate things to mammoth, wooden beaded necklaces. * Reminiscing over the vintage rack. Yes; they have 80s dresses! -squeeee!- * Pawing the racks of designer garments with tags still on them! * The staff was fun, chatty, and helpful as we browsed. * The musical selection -- we heard several tracks by Bjork, which further enhanced our girl-tastic experience. :-) Yay! read more

Do not consign here! They really rip you off. I consigned a gorgeous black coat with embroidery with the stipulation that it not be sold for under $50.00. They agreed and then put in on sale within a few days. It sold immediately. I earned $14. Frankly I would have felt better about donating it to Good Will. Consigning with them will leave a bad taste in your mouth! read more

Forget thrift stores, this is my new favorite second hand store! I bought a Michael Kors tank, new WITH tags, for $5! I went during their last chance sale (the last weekend of every month). I purchased two beautiful silk dresses, two wool/silk blend sweaters, and one denim blazer for $5 each as well. It was a great day for my wardrobe. The atmosphere was spot on for me; I would get the same vibe from a favorite small town bakery, one which started the cupcake craze. Merchandise sneaking in the right places, this store is full of fun treasures. The clothes were mostly quality pieces with a few trendy things tossed in between. Lots of vintage fun lying around (Disclaimer: I'm not a vintage connoisseur). Reasonably priced and full of sales ($18-$30 reg. for sweaters (some cashmere), $5-10 sales, 50% off winter coats, etc). Except for shoes. The shoes seemed overpriced for how worn the soles were for some (they were designer/high quality). They had boat loads of cute accessories strewn everywhere ($10-15, necklaces, hats, scarves, etc.). Nothing in here screamed H&M; nothing in here screamed frump either. There was the usual Ann Taylor, J Crew, Banana Republic, GAP stuff, but they had a rack full of higher end, real designer items in the front. I was too busy making off with their $5 stuff (guess there's something to this instant gratification) to rummage through stuff that I would have to save up for. There's always next time... read more

This a comment to the comment left by the staff member from the store. While I understand that consignment and resale shops are limited regarding what items they accept there was simply no reason for me to be spoken to in the manner I was. Tall and petite women also do not face discrimination and institutional oppression based on the size of their bodies so comparing the disrespectful manner in I was spoken to on the phone and the lack of all "specialty" sizes is sizest and ignorant of said oppression. I've had luck with Found and Second Time Around. While they don't have a great deal in stock they do accept and sale plus sizes and are very friendly. A Yelp reader contacted me after reading my review of the Raspberry Beret-she actually created an account simply to contact me-because of the rude staff she experienced while shopping there. She suggested the Evolving Closet in Waltham. There you have it, my lovely fellow voluptuous, zaftig hotties and allies. Three more stores to shop at that value and respect larger women. read more

Today marks the beginning of Raspberry Beret's official welcoming into my vintage/consignment/thrift store shopping rotation. Though I've browsed on many visits, I'd failed at finding an item to complement my current wardrobe and thus take it home to mingle amongst my many articles of clothing. Several times, I'd dillydallied on making a purchase only to be filled with remorse for not nabbing up the item when I had the chance! Delightful is the collection of accessories--from hats, scarves and jewelry to purses, gloves and belts, the tables and cases and racks overflow with gently used goodies. Draping chain necklaces, every type, length and style of earring you could imagine, printed silk scarves, leather belts, stretchy belts and nylon belts perfect for holding up those Nantucket red trousers! Less thrilling is the selection of shoes, which is populated with uncool cast-offs and slim pickings in the size department. As the store lives on in the land of Mass Ave between Harvard and Porter, I look forward to seeing the collection improve, with even more unque vintage pieces and less Ann Taylor garments. Like many consignments stores, Raspberry Beret is a treasure hunt--you don't walk out with a winner, but taking the time to peruse the ranks produces a prize every now and then! read more

And although I didn't expect tough love, it's exactly what I needed to understand. Hardcore business dealings = better quality stuff to sell. + They don't want your favorite embroidered smock shirt (with stains...I get it... what was I thinking?) + They don't want your single-use shorts that you wore on your greasy bike + And, no, I'm not in the business, THEY are the business and they don't need to take my business if they don't feel like it. + Next time, make an appointment + Come prepared with CLEAN, presentable, adorable-wear + It ain't a thrift store and they don't want your donations Check in after 90 days to see if you've earned $20 check; if no, they donate the unwanteds. I love this type of store. All sorts of fun stuff jumbled into a small space. For those who are into that kind of thing, they seem to have a nice selection of vintage-y clothing. Personally I prefer the jewelry, accessories and handbags since I have more clothes than brains. My first ever visit was the most fun but only because they were having a great end of season sale. Prices run the gamut from low to whoa. I will guarantee that you'll find something to oogle even if you don't end up buying. read more

It is always a pleasure when Frannie Z. surprises me with the a visit to the area. Since she is the queen of all things thrift, antique and secondhand, we took a trip to this store on our way to Harvard Square. First, the store is not huge, so it is really manageable to pick through. Second, it does not have that smell ... you know what I mean, that moth ball and sweat smell. Last, the stuff is real quality stuff so picking through is really not hard to do. I immediately found a real wool cable knit sweater from Ireland for under $25. You really get a sense of how good a bargain that is when you walk across the street to the Irish Imports store with all their beautiful imports. I wore it today for the first time and I got about 10 compliments on it already. They were also having a 50% winter scarf sale, so I picked a unique knitted one. The had a great section that was divided into decades and it was just fantastic to see the eras and the quality. There is another section for higher end products and designer labels. I live 5 minutes away from here and have walked by countless times, always dismissing it as another store full of cute clothes I couldn't afford. Then today, I had a meeting nearby that I was a bit early for, and I picked up a price tag on a dress, fully expecting to be outraged at the ridiculous price of clothing. It said $16.00. My brain said, wait...that decimal point goes there? REALLY? This store is great. It's like shopping at the Garment District after a friend has already gone through and picked out a few pretty pieces for your perusal. The girl behind the counter was really friendly and helpful (and cute!) and told us that the store has new inventory every day. They have shoes, bags, hats, jewelry, and all types of clothing. As consignment shops go, Raspberry Beret is the bee's knees. (or is it bees' knees? the knees belonging to plural bees? hmmm. And now cue Gob: "beeeEEES?!??!") Anyway, this boutique is great; I've not consigned here (though I've considered it; their process seems straight-forward and simple and fair), thus I review here only as a shopper... for now. Every visit here yields multiple fantastic finds, which range from jeans to jewelry to shoes to leggings to infinity and beyond. The shoes I scored are particularly amazing: a pair of suuuuper comfortable Clark's running shoes (in which I do NOT run, btw, unless the cops are chasing me) which were in perfect shape, looked totally unworn, and though they would retail for $90, RB's price? Just $27! The staff are always friendly, happy to answer questions, and in one instance, I witnessed a fun exchange: a couple of dudes stopped in because they needed gear to wear to a "Bollywood party" they were attending that night; the 2 ladystaffers were eager to help and really got into brainstorming, had fun offering several suggestions, and when the guys didn't find all they needed, the ladies directed them to The Garment District--very much their competition--which really showed how much they value the satisfaction of the customer. This place is fantastic! A lot like Second Time Around on Newbury Street (and in Portsmouth, NH), but less frequented, so has a better inventory. May be slightly cheaper too, depending on what you are looking for. I got a pair of new Banana Republic paints, a shirt, a sweater, and two pairs of earrings for around $50. I spoke with the owner (who works there most of the time), and her original store is in Wakefield -- she says Cambridge is a much better market for her wears, and she isn't wrong! read more

I was cold, really cold on the tuesday afternoon when I finally arrived in the Raspberry Beret store. But it totally worthed the travel. I bought a an amazing cashemere cross-over Loft pull over for 28 dollars and a Gap white wool top for 10 dollars. The store is welcoming, the clothes smell good and are well organized and the employees are helpful without being overwhelming. A must see and shop in Cambridge ! read more

Yes Prince is ringing in my head right now...and I love it. I will never pass up a good consignment opportunity! I first wandered in here after having lunch in the area and was impressed with the selection and the over all atmosphere. The woman at the counter was really knowledgeable. Her selection of new local designs is also good, not overwhelming but quietly hung in the front for you to discover. I found a pair of Dansko clogs (no fashion statement there, I wear them to work) for a great price in great condition. My friend came out of the experience with a couple really cute shirts. The selection of vintage top designers is also pretty great for the size of the shop. I also loved her selection of vintage hats and accessories, so fun! Like any 2nd's shop you have to dig a little, but finding the gold is worth it. read more

Let's start at the end of the story, and work towards the beginning. After receiving my check for a consigned coat, I immediately spent that plus more on a cute necklace (the work of a local designer!), and a great pair of vintage earrings. I'm very happy with my purchases, and have a hard time keeping myself away from Raspberry Beret on the jewelry basis alone. The staff was extremely helpful while I was making my purchase, and it was truly nice chatting with the two ladies behind the counter. So... the original reason I was in RB in the first place was to consign a coat. I have to say, in our fast paced world, it seems like the consignment process takes FOREVER. But I completely understand having rules, time periods and set dates for consigners to do their business - or else the place would be a zoo. All in all, I'll certainly be back, and I'll try to relax a bit about the time it takes (my neurosis, my curse). read more

Best consignment store I've ever shopped in. Matt, the man running the store when I stopped in yesterday, helped me pick out all the coolest styles for my frame and read me like a book. At checkout, he even went over how to best care for each garment (lay the beaded cocktail dress flat, don't hang it; this fabric will pill so try to avoid layering things over it too much). I'm not sure how the staff at Raspberry Beret do it, but wow!!! For a variety of reasons, I've done nearly all of my clothes shopping at secondhand/consignment shops over the years, and never have I been as impressed by the selection of quality, unique pieces as I have here. I tend to create my own style as I go, so I really enjoy coming across items that let me express myself while staying just a little out of the mainstream. Yes, as others have noted, prices here do tend to be a bit higher than other used-clothing stores in the area, but keep in mind-- you're paying for the luxury of access to pre-screened items displayed in an organized fashion. Rare for me to visit Raspberry Beret without buying several things but the last two times I've visited, today and a few weeks ago, I've been distracted by the lack of safety measures and the many people allowed into the shop. They don't ask you to use hand sanitiser when you come in, they don't restrict the number of people who enter, they don't seem to care about the 6 foot rule, and they use two adjacent dressing rooms rather than leave the middle one empty. So that the staff are wearing masks and gloves doesn't feel like enough to reassure me..... read more
