(Last night we were starving and decided to hunt down some gyros. We walked past Gyro Uno, and I remembered eating there ages ago, so I went in and grabbed some gyros. The service was amazing! They really made us feel welcome. The place was comfy, with tons of seats. We also got fries; they were crispy and awesome! I totally recommend checking it out. They have a huge menu, and you can eat there or take it to go. Their pizza looked great too. read more

Their service is top tier and their pizza even better! We came here today to pick up a slice and they did not disappoint. When you ask for extra cheese and pepperoni, you mean EXTRA cheese and pepperoni. And extra crispy ... the ratio of cheese and sauce was perfection. This place has definitely become my new go to for pizza when I'm on Steinway street and for $13 for everything even more. read more

I'm stunned this dump is still open. I used to go here in 1999 to 2001. It's super outdated. It's Greek food but super basic. Considering how much the neighborhood has gentrified I'm stunned this place is still open. Wow. read more

Been coming here my entire life and Gyro Uno had been top notch along with Romano's (closed down) and old school Pamela's pizza on Steinway. Unfortunately, the last 3 times we ordered, the gyro just wasn't the same. Not sure if the company they buy from changed it or if they decided to go with a cheaper option. It's still edible but definitely not the same as it was. read more

What to say about gyro uno so this gyro place was pretty much the same situation as Centro pizza I always passed by it and never went in. Gyro uno still to this day has the best gyro in Astoria. I've been coming here since a kid and they still got it with the gyro's. They offer breakfast platter for breakfast and pizza as well. Their pizza is pretty decent and not bad at all if you order a fresh pie, but there gyros is were its at. I wouldn't come here for nothing less. Located on the corner of Steinway and 28ave gyro uno has been going strong for 30+ years and is a staple in the neighborhood for greek food. I highly recommend this place. I cant say enough good things about this place. Great food, reasonable prices, great staff, and awesome food. Great food. Great prices. A must in you are in the area. read more

TERRIBLE! I really wish I could give them none. The so called manager has no customer service at all! I came back in after I got my order to grab two cups for our drinks. He told me he was busy and to get out of his face. I couldn't believe it. He then moved on to help other customers with a smile. Doesn't seem right. I just moved to the neighborhood and wanted to try this place because of the reviews. Food was terrible and the service is disgusting! read more

When I went in last night for a gyro (mediocre - meat was chewy and too salty) the guys behind the counter were looking me up and down, and not so subtly, making jokes at my expense- disgusting inappropriate behavior - don't go here Astoria. read more

Went in for quick lamb gyro sandwich takeout. It's a standard gyro with sauce, bit of onions and tomatoes and layers of sliced and grilled gyro wrapped in pita. For $9 and the Yelp reputation, thought that it would do little be more than what I experienced. In an area full of greek and Mediterranean spots, this is one of many. Location is in an area where other non Greeks places are moving in. Parking is, as it always is on Astoria Ave, difficult and intractable as the Greek national debt crisis. read more

Often times, I wonder what my life would be without gyros. Then, I just can't go farther than that because it would be impossible. No matter how many fancy Greek dishes you'll make me stuff, nothing can replace the soft spot I have in my heart for gyros, or as they say, pita. I ordered a pork souvlaki to go. God I love those chunks! After 15 minutes of waiting (or more), I almost didn't want my souvlaki anymore. Everyone else was getting theirs and I just wondered if the guy was playing games. I mean, I don't think it'd take that long to prepare a sandwich. The meat has long been cooked and is just spinning around, ready to be stripped. ...and I was even more disappointed when I got home. The meat was WAY overdone, it was almost as good as toast and there were excessive amounts of onion slices. Very little meat - and that took 15 minutes to prepare. I really wanted to like this place but it was overall a disappointing experience. Maybe I'll come back soon. Or maybe not. read more

Only 4 stars because the resturant rating is a B. I honestly don't care about the rating. I love this place. Their gyros are delicious and thats all I ever purchased from them. I normally get the gyro platter because I get the yummy greak salad. I could never get enough of feta cheese. But please do have a pack of gum on you so your not smelling like cheese the whole night that is not cute. ::::BATHROOM ALERT::: WATCH YOUR STEP!!!!! If your new to this place you will fall into the tiny bathroom stall. There is a tiny step right before you go in. They keep a dirty mop in there but other then that the toilet is clean as well as the sink. I am not sure how they are on the toilet paper but I used the last square, thankfully it was a number 1. But the bathroom was not gross except for that darn mop. It's a good place to go if you want cheap eats and a lot of food. You will not wait that long to be served either. If your so eager why they have a B rating on the storefront I recommend going to the rating website to find out. I personally am too scared to look because I love this place and have been going there for years. read more

I love the food, but for delivery it stinks, I had experience from very good restaurants but they fail deliveries and its. very frustrating when you want something. They don't have fountain soda for a year now they told me and I was dying for it, well now any restaraunt that does not have fountain soda cannot serve me. So let this be a lesson and also. why onions in my food ????? Why can't you Greeks stop putting onion automatically. Even I as a Greek cannot accept raw onion in the food. its to throw away. Even picking them out , still leaves the taste and smell. Put them on the side instead!!!!!! and remember people forget to say it and others allergic to them. Very rare but it's true but still have respect " WE DON'T WANT ONIONS IN OUR FOOD!!!!!!!!! read more

Astoria is known for gyros and the best in Astoria is here. Excellent taste and a good size portion make up these gyros. The guys behind the counter are friendly and fast. They only take cash if that turns you off. The only turn off to me is parking but that is life in New York. Well worth cruising for a spot to get a gyro here. read more

Yup the secret is out. This is my secret spot for a quick gyro fix! It is certainty not the best gyro I ever had, but it is great if you are looking for a quick meal that is fresh and affordable. I visit this area every so often and it has not disappoint. Food: The chicken and lamb gyro are my go to. Both freshly sliced off the rack and served. This time around, the chicken was a big overcooked and we had to pick out a bunch of overly cooked chicken -- but it wasn't worth complaining. It is served with salad, lemon potatoes and pita bread. and of course the tzatziki sauce (extra sauce will cost you $1). Service: Despite the negative reviews here, Ive always experience excellent service. People have to remember that this is your neighborhood mom and pop shop and yes sometimes service is slower (and that is because they are hopefully multi-tasking). If you really are in a rush... order it to go! Overall, you can't go wrong here. I only had the gyros so cannot comment on the pizzas. read more

Are they racist! I just bought a gyro plate there, had a coupon and they refused to honor it. last Friday my husband bought a gyro plate there and they gladly honored the coupon from him. Today I was told that coupon expired on 01/03/2022. last Friday was 01/21/22. Is it because I'm a person of color I got treated that way?! My husband is Caucasian, did he get the discount because of that?! I think so, I'm going to encourage my friends and family of color to not give them their business anymore. read more

I love Gyro Uno. I've been coming here since I was three years old and arrived to Astoria from Argentina. What a dream come true. Their chicken souvlaki gyro's, spinach strombolli's, and spinach pie's continue to be the best I've ever had. Please note, this is one of the few places that continue to be cash only. Nothing is glam about this place, but if you want good, homey, greek food at a great price, this is the place to go to. Every time I go back to my parents house, I pass by and I get the same nostalgic homey feeling. Even after going through different owners, they are still consistent, which is a hard find now a days. read more

It's not the best pizza but it's not the worse. It's NY pizza and it hits a special spot. It's not fancy or hipster, but when you need it, it delivers. Keep it simple, get a cheese pie. Get some salt and pepper and love it. Make the pizza yours, and enjoy every bite. Remember better times from your youth, as you ate pizza and dreamed. Now keep yourself there because 9/10 I can bet you didn't become an astronaut like you wanted, but you know what you do have? Pizza. And life with some NY pizza is great. Enjoy. Love it. read more

Uninspired, bland, flavorless. Burger had no sauce, 2 halves of a tomato, 2 pieces of lettuce and a slice of semi melted yellow cheese haphazardly stuck to the bun in an off center position so I had to peel it off to reposition it. Typical NYC western food corner restaurant- the only thing going for them is "hey we're an old school joint!" Just like most similar places in Astoria, don't expect any flavor or execution or wow factor because you will be surely disappointed. Creative culinary energy has flatlined in this town. read more

The gyro was great. They really pack on the meat. The soulvaki (shishkabob in a gyro) was terrible. It was all tough and nervy meat. The place is called Gyro Uno for a reason. Stick to that and you'll be happy. They only take cash which is also annoying. read more

I don't understand how anyone can eat here more than once. It must be what I have already stated, people will eat anything, just like dogs. Gyro combination. The salad was two halves of one tomato slice, a piece of lettuce, slivers of onion, an olive, a piece of cheese. The pita was a yellowish and rock hard, you can literally f**k someone up if you hit them with it. The chicken looked prepackage, the gyro was also a funky color. Everytyhing was horrible. I will never go there again. read more

Wish I could give it no stars. I've been a customer of Gyro Uno for YEARS (practically my whole life) and ever since it switched management recently, it has taken a nose dive. The new owner is HORRIBLE. No customer service and YELLS at you if there's any miscommunication between you and the staff (which there are many because no one listens/speaks good English). He gaslights you and screams at you if you try to resolve any issue. I bet that they will be out of business in a year if he continues on this way. He really does not know how to run a business and speak like a decent human being to other people. He is a nasty person. No respect for loyal customers and people in general. So disappointed. read more

Uno what I really love about NYC? Gyros! NYC becomes a real Gyro destination when uno all the Gyro spots that I do. If uno what's good for you, you should get to NYC asap just to try all the great Gyros. They will change everything uno about Gyros. Uno nothing. Yet. The more uno... What to get: um... maybe a Gyro? What else: ask for easy on the sauce, or the sauce on the side. This is one of the most delicious Gyros in Queens. BZ Grill makes authentic Athens Gyros with Pork, as well as these Chicago kind, so they are the winners. But other than that, you have to go to the Bronx to find a Chicago style Gyro better than the ones served up here at Uno. My favourites in town are at Gyro World on Fordham, and Greek Express a little NW of there. Both absolutely amazing. But other than that, Gyro Uno is one of my favourites. I just urge you to get the sauce on the side, because I'm not sure how crazy I am about their sauce, and they really do smother, cover, drench the Gyro in their sauce. I would have preferred less, so in future I'll ask for that. If you're into Gyros, I highly recommend trying this one. Yelp did not steer me wrong in this case. Cheap, huge, hearty, juicy, enormous, delicious. Just like me. But then if you are on my friends list, it's statistically very likely that Uno all that already. I know Uno what I'm talking about. And Uno I know Uno. Uno? Now, I'll let Bonnie Tyler close out the review. I need a Gyro! I'm holding out for a Gyro in the Astoria night! It's gotta be hot and it's gotta be big and you've gotta give me the first bite... I need a Gyro! read more

Even with all the diff choices I have living smack dab in the middle of Little Egypt/largest Greek population outside of Greece, I still find myself constantly going to this establishment when I am yearning for that complete gyro. This is a simple, no frills gyro shop that also does pizza, burgers, et al. However, I'm here for one thing and one thing only - the meatiest gyro sandwich ever sold for five measly bucks. Watch as they slice the gyro meat from the rotating pit and see just how much falls down onto your pita. Also, the amigos here will give you extra white/hot sauce on the side, free of charge, as long as you ask. Best bang for your gyro buck, hands down! read more

Enjoyed the food at this spot, compared to other Greek restaurants I'd def say it's an average 3 stars. The location can be described as a Greek pizza parlor. It's not a formal restaurant, more diner vibes and lots of people coming in to grab and go. If you expect a restaurant, restaurant you'll be disappointed so go in with clear expectations. I ordered a gyro hot plate. The meat was awesome and I constructed my gyro in the sliced up pita bread by layering up the meat, salad, and tzatziki sauce. I ordered fries to play it safe, but my brother who frequents the restaurant ordered the lemon potatoes. Those were so good and I ended up stealing a couple off his plate! I'd definitely recommend for a quick bite. read more

Food: holy moly so good! Absolutely delicious dynamite gyro/gyro meat, taziki sauce is to die for Atmosphere/space: when you walk in it's like a pizzeria where you order and sit, small space and when you enter and you order to stay they have a waitress serve you, but it's not really needed. Price: reasonable for the amount of food give. You can get extra meat if you want but it's so not needed! Service: very friendly and fast Highly recommend if in the area! read more

While walking through Astoria I wanted to find an authentic Greek restaurant. Gyro Uno, with Greek writing on their sign, seemed authentic enough. Inside, Gyro Uno felt like a small coney island restaurant commonly found in Detroit, minus the chili dogs. Gyro Uno had a pretty typical menu with plenty of Greek and American options. I ordered the souvlaki and with in a few minutes I was eating a piping hot pita topped with tomatoes, onions, souvlaki meat, and tzatziki for only $5. The souvlaki meat was a chewy but the tzatziki was absolutely delicious. It was so much better than the "white sauce" street vendors throw on gyros in Manhattan. Plus, the service was great and the waitress was Greek. If you happen to be in Astoria and you're looking for a quick, cheap bite of authentic Greek food, try Gyro Uno. read more

Food was good and cheap, which was exactly what I was looking for to satisfy my cravings.

Wow I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I have no idea how this place passed its health inspection. I watched the owner scrape spilled sugar from the counter back into a container with a dirty piece of cardboard. And when I went to sit down to wait for my order, I noticed a fly swatter just laying on a table, with several dead flies stuck to it. At this point I really didn't even want my food anymore but it was almost prepared. If these are things that happen out in the open, I don't even want to know what happens behind closed doors. My friend and I did take out and ordered a beef patty and two souvaski gyros. The beef patty was very average but considering this place is known for gyros I wasn't expecting much. They only ended up making one gyro, which was fine because the meat was extremely chewy and fatty. The pita bread was completely soggy from all the sauce that was slathered on. Before I left, we asked for two cups of tap water. Again only got one and no straw, but the owner was giving us a dirty look so we didn't bother to ask for the other one. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid, back in the 80's. I remember liking it then and fast forward 25 years, it's still as good as I remember. I've been staying at an airbnb in my childhood neighborhood of Astoria the last month, and I've eaten here 3 times already. I've ordered both the chicken and beef Souvlaki platter, because Souvlaki was always one of my favorite dishes as a kid and I could never, ever find it in Florida. They are well worth it for about $12, since it includes a nice Greek salad, Tzatziki sauce, fries (or lemon potatoes or rice), pita bread and a Dolmade. Most of the people here are long time locals and seem to know each other. I overheard a few nice conversations. The waitress has been the same one each time I came and she's quiet, but friendly and attentive. I preferred the beef Souvlaki well over the chicken, which lacked some taste. I also loved the lemon potatoes, and will prefer those over the fries (I haven't tried the rice yet). This place only takes cash...so make sure you have enough for the meal and tip. read more
