The Gypsy Kitchen is awesome. The atmosphere is great but the food is really the bomb. I started with the crispy cauliflower which could almost be a meal on its own. Crispy fried cauliflower is to die for. For my entree I had the half rotisserie chicken it was also so so good I couldn't quit eating. read more

We ordered takeaway from this place during COVID times, a few days after it opened. The cocktails here are very unique, thoughtfully put together, and well-executed. Would definitely re-order. I tried an Achilles Leg Day, which was tangy, creamy, and refreshing, and an Isla de Moda, which was nicely spicy and strong. As for the food, though -- I would say that it is fairly solid, but really quite overpriced for the portion size. You can see from the attached pictures that the $14 kibbeh appetizer comes with only 3 pieces, and the $28(!) lamb moussaka is only about the size of half a soda can. They were rich, so you'll probably still walk away feeling full, but I wouldn't say they were any better really than the more normally-priced kibbeh or moussaka you can get elsewhere in DC. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in DC. The vibe is very trendy with lots of plants. The cocktails and food are also great. The Canela y Sol cocktail was so good that when my husband tried mine he ordered his own as well. For food the Hummus bil Lahme was probably our favorite dish. Service was definitely on the slow side. We had a reservation but still waited at least 15-20 minutes for our table. Ordering and waiting for drinks to come out was also longer than usual but honestly everything tasted so good it made up for it. read more

we love the restaurant's decorations and food. I am from Istanbul where is the most heart in Mediterranean food place. This place makes me feel home. read more

What a cute place, and such tasty food! Julio was the best! Literally psychic in anticipating our needs, and just such a lovely man :) Could not have had a better experience! Drinks were amazing and super great food all around -- if you love sharing lots of small tapas plates, but then they also have great options for large plates if you like to order on your own too! read more

Just had brunch there on the gorgeous rooftop deck. I made a noon rez with a friend - got there at 11:30am (roof is 1st come, 1st serve) - and was first in line. No one really showed up until about 11:45am. Gorgeous natural wood, iron, creams, green plants all over. Truly beautiful/chic. The food is quite like tapas - small plates perfect for sharing. We got crispy cauliflower- which was tasty & super creative. Super light batter & flash fried with a creamy lemon tahini base on which the veg was placed - with some caramelized dates & raisins & cilantro flower w/ a sprinkling of Calabrian chiles. Excellent combination of flavors. Mushroom toast quite tasty with a nice combo of wild mushrooms. Toast was super light. And our 3rd dish was more like a main dish but we split it --- a super-spiced lamb burger on an airy brioche bun with caramelized onions & arugula. Very very good. Only thing that was really not very good - I'd even go so far as to say was quite strange - was the dessert: chocolate pavlova. The waiter described it was a mousse-like chocolate pudding in an airy pastry thats flash-fried. No & No. It's more like a small bit of chocolate cake w/ a slight streak of custard inside a big meringue w/ some candied-like cherries on the side which they call "pickled." Really not very good at all. But the rest of the meal - and coffee - were fantastic, and the service (terrible dessert description aside) was quite good. You never want for anything, and the dishes positively fly out of the kitchen. Definitely will be back read more

great food and service, you all have old menu which dose not exist in the restaurant menu in my apinion it's better you guys change your menu because some of us we just go to yelp and see what's available in the restaurant but when you go to the restaurant ! no its just don't have it anymore what humm! for that reason i'll say 4 read more

Finally a reason to review something during the pandemic! Gypsy Kitchen saved our souls with their great food and atmosphere. We aren't dining in much these days, and miss the rooftop in these cold months, but spring is coming! This spot is worth getting your vaccination for! I cannot say enough good things about this place. It was truly superb. The creativity with such simple ingredients was really great. I took one bite of the Labneh and Flatbread, and immediately ordered a second one. THAT IS HOW GOOD the first dish was. Can't wait to go back. Don't miss this place. read more

This is my second time coming to Gypsy Kitchen and it was just as wonderful as the first time. The food is amazing and the service is great as well! The first time I came we sat at the bar, and this time we made a reservation. Our server Julio was fantastic. He provided us with recommendations and consistently checked on us when we looked like we needed something. He was careful not to interrupt any of our conversations, but engaging as well! 5/5 star experience. Can't wait to come back again :) read more

Nice spot, rude staff. Tapas here are pricey but always very tasty. Staff turned on house lights the second the restaurant closed even though there were more than a few tables still eating. Waiter accused us of stealing a pen and followed us out screaming at us about returning the pen. So inappropriate! Not what you would expect when spending 150+ on just apps. read more

I really liked the vibe of Gypsy Kitchen- it was very casual, comforting, and hip. It's not too loud or quiet. A great place for brunch or dinner with friends, or a date. There was low staff today but my server still did amazing and was so kind. I would definitely come back here. read more

Good date spot, good tasting food. A little pricey but not out of the ordinary for the area

I loved the decor and vibe at gypsy kitchen. The drinks were also so good; however, I was expecting more from the food. It was pretty expensive but the quality and taste of the food left more to be desired. read more

I took my family here for a Mother's Day dinner. They have lots of choices for everyone. We are vegan so they do have items available for vegans. They will also prepare your meal without dairy products if you so desire. The staff was excellent and the meals were delivered promptly. Our waitress was wonderful and was always around to ask us how we were doing with our meals, etc. I highly recommend this place. Nice setup and great staff read more

Been here a few times now. The food and service is great! I strongly recommend getting the hummus bread. It's pretty fulfilling and delicious. The previous times I went I did a walk-in and sat at the bar. This place is also vegan friendly! read more

The best hummus I have ever had. Amazing service and great food! It's a little pricy for the amount of food you get in my opinion but definitely worth it. The lighting and decor is nice too.. got some cute insta pics :) read more

We've eaten here twice and have loved everything on both visits. We had dinner inside once and brunch outside the 2nd time. Highly recommending the cauliflower dish (yes, they have vegetarian and pescetarian options) and their "Espresso Martini-ish"! read more

walked in through a last minute reservation and sat on the top floor patio,, very nice vibes! seating was a little unique because we were sitting on the same bench, but it was cozy. crispy cauliflower was my personal favorite-- decided to share a variety of small plates to get a taste of everything. hummus was loaded and hearty. chicken briouat was ooookay but nothing special! curried couscous in the grilled flat iron was better than expected. wish the portion sizes were bigger, but they were some good quality dishes. read more

Gypsy Kitchen DC - hummus & flatbread, crispy cauliflower, crispy chicken briouat, grilled flat iron - Tapas/Small Plates Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

The food was great. The pitas were warm and fresh. Service was attentive. Ambiance was perfect for celebrating a birthday!

Found this place on Yelp while attending another function in DC and was happy we did! We walked in and got a table right away. Atmosohere was nice, we had a great table in the window and service was good. We received recommendations from our waiter, tried some new dishes and they were all delish...favorites included the village salad and the steak w Lebanese cous cous. Drinks were refreshing and fresh tasting. Banana ice cream dessert was also delish for banana lovers...the walnut and dates took it over the top. Will definitely visit again! read more

Delicious food, exceptional service, tasty and inventive drinks, and awesome atmosphere. Highly recommend this place, especially for an intimate group that's willing to share plates. The cauliflower dish was so good, as was the hummus and naan, and the lamb chops were a delicious main dish. The server found out we were celebrating my friend's engagement and brought us free champagne! Def will go back. read more

Flatbread and hummus was really good Poor service but the decor and ambiance was cute but not cute enough to make up for the service Took forever to get our food and tables who were sat well after we ordered, got similar dishes before us When asked where the rest of our food was (the 2nd time) the server said they wait to bring other dishes when space becomes available on our table which was total BS & even if that were true.. Not once did she even ask if she could take anything from our table to make room Will also note we arrived well before the post work crowd so there was no reason why our food took so long Not sure if it was a server or kitchen issue but considering other tables got stuff before us I think the server forgot to place in part of our order and didn't seem to have any real care that we were waiting an hour for the rest of our order What we ordered Flat bread and hummus-10/10 Crispy cauliflower- 0/10 I don't think the cauliflower was seasoned prior to frying it and the cauliflower texture was weird idk what that was Chicken kapama- 6/10 Beef kabob-6.5/10 Salted potatoes-0/10 literally no salt, tasted like microwaved potatoes with no seasoning read more

We were in the neighborhood and walked by this place and decided to try it without knowing anything about it. I am very glad that we did! The food was unique and layered with flavor. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and three small plates which was a good amount for a light dinner. I appreciated that they had a non alcoholic cocktail - which was delicious. My favorite dish was the flat iron with couscous - I wanted to lick the plate! I highly recommend trying this place if you are in the neighborhood. It was a very welcome surprise! read more

Great atmosphere, delicious food and drinks. The pita and hummus was excellent. Would definitely recommend!

Solid spot although the portions are small for the price but fine if sharing with one other. The drinks were solid (had a cocktail and sparkling rose). The rooftop is nice but they need more shade covering for the early afternoon in order to maximize outdoor seating during that time. read more
