Joined a friend for cocktail hour. The hummus and pita were perfection but the inventive cocktails were the prize! Fun spritzers, perfect for Spring, were all we needed to raise a glass and enjoy a couple of hours catching up at the bar. The bartender was helpful, friendly and kept our glasses full. This restaurant is in the former Masa 14 space. The downstairs is warm, the upstairs has a more lively bar scene with an open roof deck (in warm weather). We went last night and ordered way too much food. We started with the medium meat/cheese board, with jamón serrano, chorizo, salchichón, tetilla, manchego, and barrel-aged feta. All three of those cheeses were amazing; the meats were good but I'm more of a cheese person. My husband had a generously-poured glass of Pinot Noir and I had the canelita "mocktail". My drink had a hint of cinnamon, which surprised me and made my drink pretty exceptional. Next we ordered a bunch of small plates -- labneh and flatbread (generous and savory), gambas, falafel, tirokroketes (creamy cheesy crispy balls in a tomato sauce), and crispy cauliflower (wasn't as crisp as I imagined but still good). We ordered too much but really wanted to try all of these. They were all delicious but honestly my stomach was so full after the meat and cheese board that I wasn't fully tasting everything. (My husband cleaned up the table; he was very impressed with the dishes.) What an overall delightful dining experience. Will come back again and recommend to others. read more

I'm going to jump right in and rate the food. As a food critic I review and rate restaurants based on taste, quality, plating and ingredients. This restaurant got a 2 star rating for their food, simply because the taste was lacking and not there. The plating and quality was semi-decent. However taste is the biggest component of my judgment and it was absent. Chefs/owners: my review is in no way meant to bring your restaurant down, but a way for you to improve and assess your items so that you can become better and better. I want you to shine! Please take notes: 1.) Spring vegetable dish - This dish was very bland. The veggies chosen in this dish had no seasoning, no salt - nothing. The feta cheese added good texture and it was salty and added the missing salt flavor, but the dish itself was bland. It needs sauce or dressing of some sort to dress it up and soak it in. Does it even have dressing on it? If so, ours did not get any that night or was super duper light that we could not taste anything. Thank God for the feta, otherwise this dish had no flavor. 2. Crispy cauliflower - again no salt, the tahini was lightly spread on the plate and was not enough for the portion of cauliflower. My suggestion is to put the Tahini in a small bowl or cup on the side of the cauliflower. The tahini was spread messy and too little for the amount of cauliflower. The tahini had no garlic, no lemon, again flavorless. You could not dip the cauliflower in the tahini because the tahini laid way too flat on the plate to be "dippable".The dried fruit relish was tasty however, and was probably the best part of the dish. Cauliflower needs to be seasoned or have seasoning in the batter of the crispy part. This is a fried dish just FYI. Or at least it tasted fried. 3. Labneh flatbread - the labneh is pretty basic. It was not anything spectacular. Labneh is Labneh wherever you go. It was not wow. It was just average. The bread was soaked in oil - very oily. It wasn't really a flatbread. It was more a side of labneh in a plate with bread of the side. When you say flatbread we envision a flatbread with labneh ontop of the flatbread. My suggestion is to spread the labneh ontop of the flatbread put olives, tomatoes and mint on it and drop zaatar ontop of the labneh and toppings and a small drizzle of olive oil. That's a flatbread. The word flatbread was a bit misleading. Don't say flatbread about this dish. Say Labneh with a side of bread. 4. Beet Kibbeh - this dish tasted good in my mouth. The dish was sweet and had good flavors and good seasoning. My husband said it was tasteless as he did the other dishes, but it was edible to me. 5. Foraged Mushroom toast - the way the mushrooms were piled onto the toast was sloppy. There is a more aesthetic way of doing this. Mushrooms were super chewy. This dish got sent back. Seems like they sautéed the mushrooms with no seasoning, no salt, no onion, no garlic - nothing. Flavorless and bland. 6. Crispy chicken briouat- this was basically like a mini ground chicken koobideh/kafta wrapped in phyllo pastry. The tomato confit jam was delicious. I felt like the chicken though, was kind of oily inside. I would say this was the best out of all that we tasted. Overall this restaurant needs to improve its ingredients and taste of the offerings. Whenever salt is missing from food, the food is rendered naked and tasteless. Salt is the most important component and so are seasoning. Not sure what background the owners are, but if they're middle eastern then yall' got some work to do to improve the taste, because we Middle Eastern people are Gods of spices and seasoning. I would love to return if the food is improved. read more

I picked this place on a whim, and it did not disappoint. The menu is tapas still, but the small selection of items on the menu was pleasurably larger than your typical tapas plating. I ordered the honey-roasted carrots and lamb chops. The carrots are nicely made but the whipped ricotta and chermoula dressing didn't have the flavorful effect I was hoping for. Now the lamb chops. The lamb chops. I'll hold from saying it a third time even though it's well deserved because they were exquisitely impressive and, at this point in my taste-bud life, the best lamb chops I've ever had. I can't wait to return during the day to try more items on the menu and enjoy the luscious earthy decor that makes this spot a standout restaurant on 14th Street. read more

My new favorite spot in DC! I've been wanting to check out this restaurant for while and finally got the opportunity to check it out this week for drinks and appetizers with a few co-workers. We were able to get a seat in the rooftop patio since we were one of the first to arrive around 5 pm. We got a few cocktails (get the Shimmy Shimmy!) to get started and also shared a few small plates. My favorite was the flatbread with hummus and the crispy cauliflower. Our waiter was super attentive and the food came out quick. As of August 2021, masks are required but there is no social distancing in effect. The opened up the roof mid way and it was such a nice vibe. Will definitely have to come back for weekend brunch! read more

Overall food here was good and tasty. We were a group of six college friends getting together after way too long to reunite. Lots of good food and drink options. We liked being able to try a lot of overall service was good and the wine suggestions were on point. Everything fell apart when it was time to pay. It should have been exactly $100 a person. Easy right? No. They wouldn't just split it for us. Instead, the waiter handed us a QR code and we had to kind of choose dishes adding up to approximately the pre tip total. It was annoying and infuriating. There was no Option just to divide it by the number we wanted. Some people paid more, some of us pay less. For a restaurant that places a huge emphasis on sharing they do not make it easy to share the bill. A very infuriating end to an otherwise nice evening. Do it like they do in Europe or other restaurants around town. Give the server one of those machines where he can just take the payments. So much easier than this monstrosity at the end. read more

Amazing waitstaff and open kitchen made everything entertaining. Disappointed: crispy cauliflower. Batter fried cauliflower (very UN-Mediterranean) could have been much better. I came here with my friend for restaurant week, and I can't really say anything bad about it! I think I might've liked it more outside of restaurant week since there would've been more variety to choose from, but everything we had was delicious nonetheless! First course was the Hummus & Flatbread and Labneh & Flatbread. I have to say, the labneh blew away the hummus, it was so good! Next up, we tried the Apple Salad, Tirokroketes, and Lamb Kefta. My favorite out of these three was the lamb kefta, the sauce was phenomenal! Although the tirokroketes were also incredible (and my friends second favorite dish of the entire meal). The apple salad wasn't anything special, but it was good and you could tell it was fresh. Next, we got the Grilled BBQ Salmon, which came with couscous. I really enjoyed the salmon, although I wish there was a bit more flavor in the couscous. Finally, for dessert I got the Chocolate Stout Cake and my friend got the Trio of Sorbetto. This is a five star place, but one of the hostesses almost made us regret coming out. We had reservations for our date night, we were a little late and asked about the rooftop, which we know is first come first serve. One hostess said, without checking, there's no seating. Thank god there were two hostesses, the other checked and said well it is full I'm sorry but your table will be ready in five. Which we were fine with, the hostess that checked the seating took us to our table which was on the rooftop. Which was so nice of her, we were expecting a table.
