We came here for happy hour. There is a bar downstairs and upstairs where they have it. The place interior is beautiful. There's an upstairs patio as well. The staff was great and fast. We ordered pretty much all of the drinks and food items. Everything was good. Our total bill was $295 which is a lot for $8 cocktails and $13 and under appetizers. They participate in the InKind app which means with a referral code you get $25 off. The app allows to split the bill. Great value, great atmosphere and amazing food and drinks.

We came here on a Friday night prior to a concert at the Black Cat. I regret not being dressed nicer as this is definitely a higher-end restaurant. That said, we didn't feel unwelcome. They have a happy hour available at the upstairs bar, but their draft taps were broken so we opted to get a seat in the main room upstairs. The waitress was friendly and helped us decide what to order. They are a tapas-style eatery, and the menu has a lot of options for the omnivore and vegetarian alike (not many vegan items). We ordered 5 plates for the two of us and finished everything without feeling gross. The best of the meal was definitely the falafel which was hot and crispy. We also loved the cauliflower. There was so much labneh that I regret not asking for more bread. Would eat here again. Great date night spot.

What a vibey little place! We stopped in here for a later night catch up, and loved the food and atmosphere. The servers checked up on us often, and kept our water refilled without being bothersome. Taking away one star because the prices of the cocktails are a bit astronomical at $18 each for what they offer. I thought the menu selection was fairly good with the typical tapas selection and fair food prices for what we got.

Gypsy Kitchen delivers a strong culinary experience with a few operational gaps that are hard to ignore. The food was genuinely impressive. We ordered several tapas, including the pork belly, beef, broccolini, and a charcuterie board. The standout of the evening was the beef. It was tender, deeply flavorful, and complemented by a sauce that was rich and beautifully balanced. That dish alone makes a compelling case to return. The broccolini was another highlight, served with a yogurt based sauce that added brightness and balance. The pork belly, while enjoyable, was slightly overcooked and could have benefited from a touch more seasoning. It was good, just not exceptional compared to the other dishes. We ended the meal with the peach tart, which was delicately constructed with an ultra thin puff pastry base that was crisp and flaky. Paired with vanilla gelato, it was light, refined, and a lovely finish. The bar program deserves recognition. I started with the El Circo mocktail, citrus forward and refreshing. We also had the Gig N Fashion Old Fashioned, which was well executed and balanced, and the Gypsy Dragon cocktail, a smaller 3 oz pour that was flavorful and thoughtfully crafted. Every drink we tried was solid. Service was efficient and attentive in terms of timing. Dishes arrived promptly, and the staff was proactive about clearing the table. The only service misstep was that our waiter seemed slightly eager to turn the table. After only three tapas dishes, he asked if we wanted dessert rather than asking whether we would like to continue ordering. Tapas dining is meant to unfold gradually, so it felt mildly rushed. We did end up ordering more, but the pacing was noticeable. The most significant concern, however, was restroom cleanliness. Throughout the evening, the bathrooms were consistently messy. Soap on the floor, overflowing trash, paper towels scattered, and at one point an unflushed toilet. I mentioned it to the manager, who stated someone had cleaned it shortly before. However, I was there from 7 PM until closing and visited multiple restrooms several times, and the condition did not improve. For a restaurant with such strong food, drinks, and ambiance, restroom maintenance should reflect the same level of care. Cleanliness is part of the overall dining experience. With that volume of business, restrooms should likely be checked every 15 to 30 minutes. Something as simple as higher capacity trash receptacles or better soap management would make a meaningful difference. Overall, Gypsy Kitchen excels in flavor, presentation, and cocktail execution. I would absolutely return for the food and drinks. I simply hope that the attention to detail extends to the restrooms, as that final impression matters just as much as the first.

OMG!!! I'm already thinking about the next time I'm coming here. The restaurant is really beautifully decorated, clean and esthetically pleasing. The service that we received from Minyae was phenomenal! She took wonderful care of us and offered great recommendations. She also paid very special attention to my nut allergy and made sure I was safe with our food choices. Now, I think I'll be dreaming about this food until next time. It was so delicious! The mussels and the broccolini were the stars of the show, but everything was so delicious. I'm not sure what seasoning that is they put on the pita bread...10/10!!! Also, the Gypsy Dragon cocktail was very tasty. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be back soon.

Such a great ambiance. The drink and multiple small plates were fantastic. Best overall dining experience i have had in a while.

Great spot for late night eats. I went on a weekend with no reservation and was only about a 10 min wait. The restaurant was definitely busy that night, but noise levels were still at a very comfortable conversation level. Our server was awesome and made some great recommendations and everything came out perfect in my opinion. This definitely is a spot I would recommend to friends and come back to visit myself.

Went to the HH between 4-7pm, got Tegroni's as drinks and couldn't complain about any of the food or drinks here! Would highly recommend coming, HH is at the bar seating both floors, upstairs was more crowded smaller bar seating availability but cute ambiance. Will be back!

Gypsy kitchen This place is quite good. I really love the charcuterie board and the cauliflower was amazing. This was the first time I've been impressed by charcuterie from a restaurant. The Spanish cheese (Mahón) along with the crackers and mustard sauce was superb. All the meats had their own characteristics and unique flavors but the jamón stood out to us the most. It even went well with the sauce that came for our cauliflower dish. It was fun piecing the components together to make unique tasty bites. I would come back just for the charcuterie alone. The drinks we got were Angelli's Ferrari along with the espresso martini-ish. My favorite was definitely the Ferrari one, but the espresso martini was super mild and had a slight coffee flavor. Good for people who like very light coffee. The Ferrari one was very bright and had lots of fruity notes to hide the alcohol. For entrées, we had the shakshouka, crispy, cauliflower, and brunch pork belly. Out of all these the cauliflower was definitely my favorite; super light with good earthy flavors and nuttiness and acidity from the lemon. The brunch pork belly was good too. The meat was perfectly cooked, but I found the beans to be a little bit overwhelming. I'm not a fan of baked beans personally so that might've been my fault for picking the dish, but I still did enjoy it and the pork that was well cooked made up for it; definitely for someone who likes beans. Shakshouka was very hearty with a lot of tomatoes and red vegetables in general. If you like lasagna or any sort of tomato spaghetti dish, you will like this one. I found this to be a bit much though. I was slightly tired of the flavor at the end. Just be aware it is a bit spicy. We had a pear tart for dessert. Honestly, it reminded me of an apple pie and it was good, but I think that some of the other desserts would've been a bit better. Had a lot of sweet cinnamon notes along some crispy flaky dough from the outside. It was an interesting take but it was still good. The atmosphere is great here; we had seating on the second floor, so it was different from the busy first floor. Very relaxed and there's a lot of natural light coming around which made everything feel very welcoming. Our server was also super friendly. I will definitely be back at this place

Hands down Gypsy kitchen is some of the best middle eastern food I've had in DC. Their take on any classic middle eastern dish is next level. They have somehow mastered the art of blending traditional flavors with additional ingredients in a way that I've tasted no where else. Also, their servers are very friendly and know the menu like the back of their hands. This is a must eat spot in DC!

I went on a double date on Valentine's eve. The restaurant was packed. We were seated upstairs. It was chilly inside. The servicer was attentive. We ordered a variety of different dishes. All were tasty. I only remembered to take a pic of my dish when the desserts came out. I enjoyed the dishes but they are pricey.

The food was very good. The small plates were enough to fill two tummies! The service was on point. He was checking with us at every turn of service. It is a great place to gather for visitors and home town people alike. The bar set up was pretty cool.

Are reservations required? would someone looking to come on a wednesday at 4 need to reserve a table or can we walk in?

I'll be in DC April 22-25th for a quick Spring break trip with 17 year old daughter + friend. It looks amazing for me but will a 17 year old appreciate the menu? If you think so, how can I book the rooftop for an ultimate experience?…

Depends on your daughter. If she likes Mediterranean food she should like it.

What's the price for one persons standard meal?

The average price per person, depending on drinks, is between $35-$45.

Is this a nut-free restaurant?

No, we are not. However, we do offer nut free menu options, and we can modify certain dish to be nut free.

Can you accommodate large parties with separate checks?

The short answer is Yes! We have an app, Sunday, where you can divide up your bill among your guest however you see fit. Nothing to download or signup for, just the ability to create as many separate checks as you need.

Can I order a tasting menu to experience a variety of dishes?

Verlaine: Although we do not have a specific tasting menu, we can create a special menu to meet your request. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss options.… Read more

Is there a parking garage?

Street parking but no garage

Do they have bottomless mimosas?

No, I didn't see anything of the shirt in their menu when I went.

How do u go to the rooftop? Stairs or elevator?

There are stairs leading to the second floor and then the rooftop. You'll see the upon entry into the restaurant.

Are they checking vax cards?

Yes!

Is there covered outdoor seating and can you reserve outdoor seating?

Yes there is a covered patio I sat in on the second floor. I didn't reserve but the hostess asked if I wanted to sit outside.

Do they serve gluten-free options?

Yes, plenty! Lots of veggie and meats, and the restaurant will try to accommodate as best as they can.

Are pets allowed on the patio?

No pets allowed

Do they allow dogs?

I don't believe so

Is it halal?

I wouldn't think so, given that they serve pork.

I see some saying they went with family- would you say this place is kid friendly?

Its really according to what the kids eat. The food is a little rich. I haven't seen that many children anytime I've been.

Is dining available since its pandemic?

Indoor dining is available with limited capacity.

The dark warm mood lighting, the corrugated wall, the intimate seating, and of course the small share plates makes for the sexy experience tapas is suppose to be! It is typical of Spanish flavors, heavily relying on high-end cured meats and cheeses, and classics such as croquetas. There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. At some point, since the menu heavily leans towards rich and decadent, its better to plan around that. Our waitress was amazing, she explained the questions we had on the ingredients and was on it with the refills.

Atxondo really strikes me as an underrated gem. It's only about a mile walk from the Petworth Metro, is right on several bus lines and for us, coming from silver spring, the drive was a very easy ~15 minutes. Intrigued to hear how often people in the neighborhood come here. It's mostly a tapas style, so everything but the paella is smaller plates. Everything is wonderfully tasty. The mini chorizo, with the accompanying chips absorbing the chorizo liquid were awesome and our group also loved the cremini mushrooms. I love a good paella and Atxondo's is a standout. really wonderfull flavored and plenty for our group of 5. They say it's enough for 2-4, but unless its your only meal of the day, I fully think a group of 2 would have leftovers. It's definitely on our list to return

Very yummy 4/5 White sangria - a little bit sharper alcohol flavor and less well balanced but still good 3/5 Embutido Combo - Jamon Serrano, Salchichon de Vic, Chorizo Iberico - I'm not sure which is which so going by the picture left to right. A little spicy, overall good quality but I do think they put a bit too much oil which made it have an extra oil taste 2.5/5 Middle - like prosciutto this is the best one! Not dry at all in any area and not too salty 3.75/5 Right - least favorite but it is still good overall. Taste a little less yummy than the one on the right even though the one on the right is too oily 2/5 Queso Mahon - rich and cheesy. Not too sticky and very soft. I like the little fruit it comes with too 3/5 Seared scallop - usually squid in rice I feel like is just color but this one was super savory and delicious with a unique taste too that I'm thinking must be from the ink! It's made super well and the crispy sear on the scallop adds so much flavor but also the scallop was not overcooked at all, super bouncy and tender. 4.5/5 Spanish risotto - very moist and yummy! Even though it's just vegetables it's made well 3.75/5 Crispy pork belly - falls apart and very tender. Not dry at all! Unfortunately too salty though. Also very heavy. Meat too salty but veggies it came with like potato that soaks up the flavor was like inedible too salty 2/5 Seafood paella - I think it came out a bit faster than 40 minutes but I didn't keep track. Large serving size! Wish there was more seafood but lots of rice! Very moist and flavorful rice, seafood flavor comes through too! Wish they cooked it longer though since bottom is not crispy at all. Shrimp is overcooked unfortunately but individually seasoned. All the squids and octopus don't have much flavor but cooked well and not chewy at all. Mussels were good too but had some weird webbing on some pieces that made me not want to eat it and size is a bit small. Needs more seafood to balance the rice amount 4.25/5 Crimini mushroom - weird with the poached egg especially since there's a bunch of mushroom liquid below that I think would mix weirdly together. But ignoring that, the mushrooms themselves were very flavorful and actually taste really great with paella! 3.75/5 Basque cheesecake - very heavy and dense. Jam is not too sweet which is nice 1.5/5 Churros - very airy and light inside! The fried part is more than double the inside though so wish that was a little less thick so it can be a little less oily but still overall light. Came very warm and the dipping sauces were very liquidy. Chocolate is on the darker side which is a nice match 3/5

Our server was really knowledgeable and friendly. As for the food , unfortunately, i didn't have anything that blew me away. My mini hamburger/Ibérico de bellota mini hamburguesa was actually my favorite item. Very juicy and flavorful. Though $13.00 for one slider was a bit much. My least favorite was the rabbit confit with apricot puree/Conejo en salmorejo con puré de albaricoques. I was excited about this because I can't recall the last time I've ever had rabbit but I think it was the texture of the puree that took away from the dish. Coming in at the middle was the seafood paella. I know it's one of the restaurants headlining menu items but I found the seasoning inconsistent. The rice seemed a bit salty and the shrimp was pretty bland. Combining it to balance it out didn't yield the flavor I was hoping for. Weirdly enough, if I went back and the table ordered it again, I definitely wouldn't mind but probably wouldn't get it myself unless my companions were interested. All in all, I'm not opposed to trying other items on the menu should I know anyone who would like to visit though I can't say it hooked me enough for me to go on my own accord

Our company division recently hosted a team offsite in the DMV area, and to encourage us to meet…read morenew colleagues, we were placed into small groups of 10-12 people where a local colleague selected a restaurant for the group. I chose Ambar for my group, and I'm very pleased with our selection. Food Most of our group had dietary restrictions. Several of us were gluten free, and one person was both nut and seafood free. Ambar did an excellent job curating a menu that worked for everyone without making anyone feel like an afterthought. We opted for the Chef's Table experience, which included a spread tasting with veggie sticks and a variety of dishes that were clearly labeled and thoughtfully prepared: * Bean hummus - GF / DF / NF * Ajvar - GF / DF / NF * Balkan salad - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without feta cheese) * Baby carrots - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without tofu sauce) * Roasted peppers - GF / DF / NF * Cauliflower - GF / DF / NF * Baked beans - GF / DF / NF * Roasted lamb - GF / DF / NF * Stuffed pork belly "Sarma" - GF / DF / NF * Brussels sprouts - GF / DF / NF (one prepared without yogurt and bacon) * Seafood platter Everything was flavorful, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The meal was so delicious that I didn't even manage to get photos of everything, which rarely happens for me. Just know we dined very well and left completely satisfied. Service The staff was wonderful from start to finish. From the event team member who served as our account manager, to the chef, to the servers and wait staff, everyone was attentive and accommodating. They handled our dietary needs with care and professionalism and made sure our group felt taken care of throughout the evening. Pricing We paid a set fee that we were able to negotiate, and the final rate wasn't too bad for a group experience like this. Just keep in mind that there is an admin fee, a 20% gratuity, and taxes added on top, so be sure to factor that into your planning if you're booking a group event. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend Ambar for group dining, especially if you have guests with dietary restrictions. They made coordination easy, delivered great food, and created a memorable dining experience for our team.

The food was overall tasty, especially the dips -- we all really enjoyed the beet dip, and I liked the fresh citrus balance in some of the spreads. The medium rare steak was also cooked well. Some other dishes like the shrimp and grits, sliders, and mac & cheese were more underwhelming and a little lacking in flavor. But overall a solid spot for to come with a group and a good way to try a variety of Balkan-inspired dishes.

One of my favorite places when I feel like I have the budget to spend. I came here on a weeknight…read moreand it was very quiet, which made for a relaxed experience. I started with Ben Frank's Milk Punch and it was really good. I couldn't taste much alcohol, but I think that's intentional compared to versions I've had at other places. The onion soup was interesting. I seemed to misread the "cappuccino" element. It definitely tasted like onion soup, but it wasn't very hot. The presentation also threw me off -- drinking it made my mind expect a dessert rather than a savory dish. The Cotton Candy Foie Gras was exactly why I came. It's a fun appetizer and I loved the balance between the cotton candy, foie gras, and corn nuts. You're supposed to shove it all into your mouth and eat it in one bite, which adds to the experience. The Tortilla de Patatas "New Way" was also delicious. I liked the contrast between the crispness and the creaminess of the sauce. It also came out super hot, which is how I prefer it. I didn't get to order more since it was meant to be drinks and apps, but based on what I tried, I wouldn't be surprised if the other items were just as delicious. Service was ok, they checked in with me but not enough for refill. Ambiance was luxurious which was a nice experience.

Writing a review for Bazaar by Jose Andres is like writing "A Tale of Two Cities." It was the best…read moreof times, it was the worst of times. This restaurant has a dining room that is as beautiful and impressive as any in DC. The architecture of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel (the Old Post Office Pavilion) is stunning. The crystal chandeliers shimmer, the furnishings are top notch, fancy even. The atmosphere could not be better. Likewise the food shines. Each dish outshone the one before. We started with the oxtail croquettes and they set the standard very high. The meat was luscious, luxurious even; the crust was perfectly crispy and crunchy. Then on to the she-crab soup. OMG it was to die for. The flavor was intense, like a crab bomb exploded in our mouths. We scraped the sides of the little bowls to get every drop. Our main dish was the beef tenderloin Rossini and this was easily among the best steaks I have ever had. Cutting the steak was easy because it was so tender. And the seared foie gras on top made it heavenly. So, to keep with my opening concept, the atmosphere of the dining room and the quality of the food were "the best of times." What was "the worst of times?" The service. It is hard to imagine food this good coming from a staff that is so unprofessional, uninspired, uninterested, unfocused. The staff - all of them - seemingly had no interest in providing top notch service. We waited to be approached. We waited for our drinks. We waited for our food; indeed, one of our courses never arrived. Never have I had such great food and such bad service all at the same time. Ronny was our waiter and, to be honest, he was not good. But everyone who we interacted with was bad so, I can only conclude, that this terrible service is what Jose Andres intended. And all of this at a meal that is VERY expensive. My spouse and I talked about the pricing. When you dine out, are you paying for the food only, or for the food and the service? The answer, of course, is that you are paying for both. So, while I do NOT mind paying a lot for a meal, I do want and expect that the food and the service will be somewhat equivalent to the price I have paid. At Bazaar Meat, that did not happen. Maybe the service lacked polish and professionalism because of the 20% tip that was automatically added onto the bill. They did not have to work hard for a tip since it was automatic. Sure, you could decrease the tip - it even said that at the bottom of the credit card slip. But would you ever do that? Not likely. So, that is my "A Tale of Two Cities" review of Bazaar Meat. Food and atmosphere, GREAT! Service, TERRIBLE! Do I recommend Bazaar Meat? No. Will I return? No.

Was able to do a walk-in on a recent Thursday evening…read more I had been many times before, but it had been a while, so it was great to dine at Agora again. Everyone in my group loved the assortment of small plates that we had. We considered getting the lamb chops, but it only comes with 2, and there were three of us, so we opted against it. The dishes we got instead (an assortment of vegetables, meat, and seafood) were all delicious, and we would all be happy to get them again.

The serving size of the dishes I ordered were medium to small. The service was far less satisfactory than food. I tried the following dishes: 1. Complimentary pita: ~40g per piece. Not salty and paired well with the other dishes. Definitely get some! 2. Lahmacun: The lamb+beef mixture was tasty. It came with 4 pieces. 3. Branzino: ~6oz. The fish was grilled to perfection; juciy tender, and the skin was nicely charred. It was served with freh parsley and seasoned grilled tomato (salt+oregano I think). 4. Imam Bayildi: Half of an eggplant topped with sauteed onions and tomatoes. While itself was pretty normal, it went so well with the Ottoman rice. 5. Ottoman Rice: The true highlight of all the dishes I tried! It was basically Basimati rice cooked with dried apricots, raisins, almonds & pine nuts mix, and seasoned with black currant. Overall it was warm, earthy and lightly smoky. The apricot slices added some delightful sweetness and juiciness to the dish. Should pair well with Labneh, chicken and seafood. But to be honest, I can simply eat this stuff along for a whole meal! 6. Tabbouleh: They went against the traditional recipe by substituting the bulgur with quinoa and added some pomegranate arils. I liked the special texture of quinoa. The sweetness of pomegrante arils also enriched the flavors. However, I had to constantly spit the seeds when enjoying the salad. 7. Kofte: Adana style ground beef patties. Just like what I make at home haha! I ordered it as an add-on to my salad at lunchtime. It came with only 2 pieces which weighed no more than 3oz in total... Despite the delicious food, service was disappointing. The first time, the dinner, was Okay. While my food came out slowly, at least my server was aware of it and asked me how I liked the dishes. The second time, the lunch, was horrible. Even before I was seated, my server made me feel that he was reluctant to serve me, and emphasized that I had to order asap. "Luckily", I had already decided what to order. After I got my dishes, no one in the restaurant asked me if the food was Okay. And at the check, my bill was thrown onto my table. In comparison, the two ladies dining next to me came even after I started eating, but were greeted warmly and were given lots of time to decide what to order; not to mention that the staff gave them lots of suggestions, asked about their dining experience, and even chatted with them about sightseeing in DC, etc. Such discrimitory treatment is really unacceptable.
