This was a difficult review. I got a soup/salad lunch combo. Chicken tortilla soup and a garden salad. The soup tasted like watered down tomato sauce. The salad was wilted. Guru's Cafe, adjoined to Enliten Cafe, is an absolutely charming little restaurant/coffee shop. I've been here a handful of times and tried a few different things now, ranging from coffee to desserts to entrées. My first visit here, just a few months ago, was for a lunch date with coworkers after work. You can order all menu items from either Enliten or Guru's, so if there is a long(ish) line on one side, feel free to head over to the other. The girl on the Enliten side when I visited 7/22/16 invited us to order over there while we were in line, which was much appreciated given that I'm currently rocking post-op booties on both tootsies. We were able to sit down much sooner than expected, and our meals came out quickly, despite how busy the place was getting. Yesterday night in particular, it was more pleasant to sit on Enliten's side because there were less people. So far, here's everything I've tried on various visits: -sweet potato fries -grilled shrimp tacos -S'mores iced latte -iced Americano -cookies and cream pudding -double chocolate chip cookie -spinach mushroom pizza -turkey bacon avocado sandwich -chocolate cake There's not been a single bad experience with any of these options, and there are still so many more things I want to try. My dinner buddy last night was also enchanted by this place, and I'm sure if she's ever out this far again south, she'll want to stop here. read more

Well, today I was disappointed in the results of my meal I got for breakfast. This is a favorite place to go with family and friends, for breakfast, lunch and even dinner. The food is always good, as well as the bakery items. I've eaten here for many many years. I got my meal today, the cowboy benny. It's is so delicious and tasty. It's a biscuits and gravy that is awesome. But I got it to go. I don't think they even filed my cup with 1/3 of the gravy. So very disappointing to get home and realize this. I've ordered so many lunches and breakfasts to go and they've been so consistent. I don't know what happened. I'm hoping that the problem was just new people not yet trained, knowing they job yet. But who knows. I'm really hoping this is a one off and I can adjust this accordingly. Be careful on your orders. This really should be a 5 star review. read more

Guru's is a Provo landmark! I have been here a million and one times! People love to come here for just about anything! It is a pretty good place to have a large group dinner because it has a lot of seating and the menu has something for everyone. I like that they have the kids meals that they let adults have for dinner or lunch! Very good price if you just want something small. Also the sweet potato fries and the sweet sauce are amazing! Blueberry pancakes at brunch are great too! Some things are little bland, and parking is hard to find, though. read more

Have I ever scarfed down a better restaurant-prepared entree salad anywhere? Probably not. Guru's has the inside track on salads. Each and every one - and I've tried them all - is delectable. From the combinations of extraordinarily fresh ingredients to the included dressings (which you can mix and match if you so desire), a Guru's salad is one to be respected, and ordered often. Also, the half-size salad is more than enough for one person's lunch. I've tried the rice bowls and wraps here, too, and never been disappointed. It's just that I'm such a sucker for a great salad. I should mention that I never fail to get a half-order of their sweet potato fries, because they're some of the best anywhere, and served with a chipotle dipping sauce that so nicely complements them. Although they're good enough to eat without dipping, I'm a dipper, myself, by nature. See the pics. All of my orders here are now to-go. I don't eat-in here primarily because I'm typically in a hurry. But, I've also had some less-than-stellar service here in the past. But then I realize, once again, that I could spend $2 less and get a limp, colorless, flavorless, drive-through salad from Wendy's that will make my will to live a little less robust. Guru's is my favorite breakfast joint. The location is attractive and comfortable with indoor and outside seating. The decorations are eye catching and create loss of fun conversations with the kids. My 5 year old son always says "oh! I love the sun place..." whenever we go. We love the Cowboy Benny and the Philly Phrench Toast. And their 100% fruit smoothies are amazing! The Cowboy Benny is a delicious Southwestern take on the classic biscuits and gravy. With the addition of smoked bacon and over easy eggs it makes it a complete breakfast that is just amazing. The green chilies and Southwestern spices added to the gravy give it a kick and a unique flavor. The Philly Phrench Toast make French toast new and exciting by adding cream cheese, a delicious egg wash, and a cornflake crust all skillet cooked together. Top that with their hundred percent pure maple syrup, and I'm in love. We certainly love lunches and dinners here as well, but breakfast is our favorite. No doubt I'll share my thoughts on lunch and dinner another time. However, if you're looking for a good breakfast to get you going in the morning. Guru's is absolutely my favorite. read more

Stopped here on the way back home to LA from Sundance. The decor is amazing, the chef greeted us and everyone's food was super fast, very tasty and delicious. I recommend the tortellini with veggies, and the cilantro-lime quesadilla. I'm sure everything else is stellar. Will stop by here next year again on our way to the festival. read more

i LOVE Gurus Cafe!! I've been going here consistently for a while now, and trying as many menu items as are recommended to me. The food is *always* reliably prepared, coming out hot(or cold if you ordered it that way), and every bite as delicious as the last. It's a very diverse menu! So always a great selection for picky families like my own:) Pizzas, wraps and sandwiches, pasta and protein bowls, salads and Mexican-style dishes, and each item is going to taste great! It also comes out surprisingly quick every time, and even if it's busy it comes at a very reasonable speed. But the pìece de résistance is the staff. Some of the friendliest and engaging staff I've found in Provo, they have a wonderful work ethic and bright attitude towards helping. They are what take a four star cafe and turn it into a five star experience, the reason that I drag my friends with me when I'm hungry, and the reason I've started to find my friends there when I show up some days. I want to start with the positives that this place has a nice atmosphere and the students working here are great. However, the food is very subpar. All of the meat was dry and bland, the salsa was more water than salsa, and it seemed every dish we ordered had feta involved, even down to the queso dip. Vegan in Provo Guru's Cafe, Provo, UT Here it is again. Low expectations get blown out of the water. I mean Provo, Utah? Vegan. Just another 2 words that don't seem to go together until I sat down and ate at Guru's Cafe. It was a short walk from the hotel and there seem to be a plethora of restaurants on this street. I had actually seen it driving in and remembered it from my Happy Cow search. As we passed the one or two tables in each of the restaurants on Center St. I was getting depressed at how dead this city was. Even the tables and umbrellas outside Guru's were pretty much empty but then the light shone in: Guru's had live music and maybe that was the draw. Well, the place had more filled tables than empty and that was a good sign, no 2 drink minimum, (no alcohol at all ... (sigh), but these people weren't only here for the music because there was food on almost every table. The live music was 3 folk singers and acoustic guitars. I was digging that as anyone who knows me knows. This place has like a hippy/bohemian/folksy/upscale modern kind of college-y/working class/professional kind of vibe. Hard to pinpoint but very likable. It is not a strictly veg place as there are animals on the menu. I saw vegan, I saw vegetarian. I didn't put the two together and ordered a half bowl of the Curry and a Veggie Burrito. They had little "v"s next to them. Yup, you know it, I did the ASSUME thing again. Only read half the description. I ordered on the line, took my plastic number for the table so the server could find me and sat down. For some reason this feeling of dread came over me, I grabbed my buddies menu, saw Monterey Jack and bolted back to the register. I apologized and said I didn't see that the burrito wasn't vegan and could we make it without the cheese and veganize it. Some minutes had passed since my order went in and I saw food coming out of the kitchen pretty quickly so was resigning myself to paying for another one. The guy behind the register asked if the cheese and ranch dressing were an issue, in a nice way though, a way that didn't put the thought, "duh" in my head. He asked the chef who was working in the open kitchen right behind the register. The chef pointed to the salamander, (broiler), and there was a burrito. I sort of deflated. But ... but ... and this is a big but ... the chef and the guy, (again I am bad at asking for names sometimes), just said no problem, they'd make me another. I apologized again, said it was my fault for not reading the fine print, and once again, they said, "NO PROBLEM." Attitudes like that should be bottled and sold. Spicy Curry BowlThe food was tasty and fresh. The edamame had a cooked just right crunch/mush. The corn kernels popped, the peppers, green beans, snow peas and veggies had the right cooked/crunch to them and the tofu squares were a good size to, well, not really taste like tofu having been coated with cornstarch and a seasoning mix before being deep fried. The sauce had a nice spice, more of a subtle background heat than hot and a really nice coconutty and nutty flavor. SPICY CURRY BOWL Zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, green beans, snow peas, edamame, bean sprouts, cashews, and tofu in a spicy coconut curry sauce over rice. Vegan item. half 5.99 full 8.99 Veggie Burrito GURU'SVEGGIE BURRITO Zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, green beans, edamame, mushrooms, corn, peanuts, tofu, brown rice, Ched. & Mont. Jack cheeses, and cilantro-lime ranch rolled in a spinach tortilla topped with Pico De Gallo and guacamole. Served with chips and salsa fresca. 7.99 You can see why I ran to omit the cheese and ranch dressing. It's interesting that the veggies in both dishes are so similar and yet so different tasting when the spices change. This was a great burrito and aside from the lettuce on the place which I wasn't sure what to do with, (yes, eat it thank you), the burrito was tops. The veggies had a bit more steamed to them being all bundled up in the burrito but still retained their snap. The guac was garlicy without being overpowering and the hot sauce on the salsa fresco added another dimension of flavor. I could only eat half of each and with two bucks thrown in the tip jar at the register the whole meal was $17.06. I can see why this place had the clientele it did. French dip is a warm sandwich and a bit off putting when the dip and the sandwich arrives cold. The fries, good as usual but also arrived less than hot. No issues with staffing or being busy. All looked to be running normal. Not sure what happened. I'll give them 4 or 5 months to figure out what is going on before I make the trip again. read more

Guru's is yummy! I love the ambiance of it too. I have only eaten lunch here and it has been a great experience each time. Customer service has been helpful and friendly too. They have a variety of menu options - lots of wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, pizza, tacos, burritos, pasta, rice bowls, etc. I like their chicken tortilla soup, taos tortilla salad, salmon salad, turkey avocado blt sandwich, and the cilantro lime pesto pasta. Provo is so hungry for anything that seems remotely fresh, that somehow this place has become a magnet for people who are trying to be healthy. However, the food was so gross that almost none of us (8 people) did not eat our food. People picked at it because they were hungry, but we all left with a bad taste in our mouth. It's dirty, the fry bins smell rancid and you can smell them all the way out to seating area and our cups and silverware had food on them. The "pastry" shop next door was also filthy and the glass case holding the food looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. Guys!! You have a steady stream of business in and out of this restaurant!!! Needs to be cleaner and take things off the menu that you don't prepare often instead of making something that's gross. This place has so much potential but also there was no air conditioning and our whole party agrees had it not been so hot in the restaurant we might have been able to enjoy things a little more. read more
