It took me a while to discover this place and I'm glad I did! They have so many good gluten free options. The cauliflower is delicious. Get your bowl spicy! I never knew I liked teriyaki until discovering grill bird. They are always packed tho so put your order in early. Good food for a decent price. Simple but delicious. I usually don't eat the weird iceberg salad with sweet dressing from any teriyaki joint, but Grillbird's basic cabbage slaw is actually good with a mustardy sesame dressing. DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE. This place does not marinate their meat at all.I asked for my chicken to be grilled a little longer so that it was extra crispy and black on the edges, and I was patted on the head and ignored, and served chicken that was cold and likely cooked before and set to the side for a fast service. I would say that i had some trouble communicating with the staff but my spanish is no better, and All of us are forced to wear ridiculous masks. And I have respect for all workers, under these conditions. There is a cheapness here. The staff were trained to wipe teriyaki sauce on the chicken with a brush out of a bucket, so as to preserve and not waste even a drop. Although the staff did give me extras when I asked for them. The sides were not bad but nothing special. All in all, slightly overpriced and somewhat trendy/overrated outfit that could learn from many traditional japanese american teriyaki outfits around town. Today I was buying my co-worker/friend lunch & she really liked what she got last time ordered from here and today was her pick; so I tried it. I really liked that "curbside pickup" was an available option when ordering. She got Chicken Teriyaki made spicy with white rice and cabbage only. Of course she loved it. I got the Steak Teriyaki - sauce on the side & extra sauce with white rice, mac salad and cabbage. The teriyaki sauce is pretty damn good. I liked the dressing for cabbage being it's not runny & doesn't have too much vinegar. It's very flavorful & the I like how the cabbage is shredded. I don't care for the mac salad... no flavor to set them aside; elbow mac with shredded carrots in a mayo & vinegar mix. Very much lacking luster and I won't get it again. As for the steak it tasted good and was tender while not being dry - kudos there especially for 6oz. I now know to include in the instructions to make more medium-rare than medium. But for $15... it didn't look like 6oz at all - more like 4oz. Don't know what they did for the photo but maybe have this item go out looking more like that to seem worth the $15 that is charged for it. Spring Rolls were really doughy and not much filling. There were 1 large cups of sauce and both were horrible... never again for these either thank goodness I didn't pay for these. My biggest issue with my experience was the time for my order. I ordered online at 11:35am and it said ready at 12:05pm. I got there & called at 12:02pm and wasn't surprised to be told it would be just a couple minutes... okay fine no worries as that puts it right at the pick up time. Then at 12:08pm I was told it had to be re-made because spicy sauce was put on my steak by accident; that person was very nice and I was given free spring rolls for the wait. The thing is I do not work from home. I work in an office in Georgetown ... with the West Seattle Bridge closed and all the traffic being detoured it takes longer to get from Georgetown to West Seattle and back. I was on my 1hr lunch break... When everything was ready to go at 12:15pm I got back to work in time for me to not be able to eat my lunch & go back to work (at the front desk - so I can't eat at my desk). I had to sneak a couple of the spring rolls & a couple of bites of my meal because I am hypoglycemic and wanted to make sure I had something in my stomach. Will I order again?? Yea but ONLY on the weekend or a day off - never on my lunch break again to risky. I will go to another place in West Seattle that I know will have my order correctly and timely. read more

Grillbird serves up fresh, delicious food that is high quality and reasonably priced, with helpful customization options, such as subbing extra rice for the mac salad.The meat has the perfect char and is juicy and not too sweet, and the sesame ginger dressing for the cabbage is fantastic. We also always order a side of the garlicky greens, which are addictive. You can tell that Matt has successful restaurant biz experience in his past, he and his team run a tight ship, but this place also clearly has a lot of heart. Wow .... we ordered online last night for pick up. The Website was super easy to order and the menu had so many options! We ordered the steak combo with greens on the side and half teriyaki chicken and half chicken katsu. The chicken was so tender and full of flavor by far the best I've had with out a doubt. I'm not a huge fan of Mac salad mostly due to it being over sweet , not their Mac salad it was full of flavor and not over saturated with dressing and could of ordered a bowl of just the salad ! The cabbage is shredded so fine like angel pasta and the dressing was delicious! The greens were packed full of flavor but were a little too crunchy for my liking but would give them another try and see if they are cooked more next time ! The sauces were not your typical teriyaki sauce they were thick and flavorful ! This was the best mistake we have ever had. We ordered the beef meal and two appetizers. They made a mistake and gave us the pineapple pork and the chicken with tofu with the cauliflower appetizer and bok choy(?) appetizer. Wow! Attempted to stop by when they first opened, but it was chaos. Now that things have been sorted out, finally had an opportunity to try. Ordered the Chicken & Greens (Spicy) with extra cabbage salad. In short, it was fantastic. All the flavors went together, and the extra spice sauce on the side was great. Teri Chicken: Moist, cooked, with a charred outside. Teriyaki was solid especially with the added spice. Greens: Spinach was not too oily, but absorbed more of the spice flavor (which is good). Rice: Good and not mushy/overcooked. Cabbage Salad: Thin sliced cabbage with a sesame dressing (I think) that blends well on the plate with all the other flavors. Nice and crispy. Mac Salad: I'm going to assume that it's a homemade as there is a good flavor of Apple Cider Vinegar in the dressing. Not too sweet and it's not just pasta in mayo. Overall, this was a great to-go order with wonderful flavor, good portions. During the 2020 COVID they are doing takeout only and everything is easy to work with. Will be visiting again. read more

Finally got around to trying this last night, and it was great. I'm a huge teriyaki snob, and can name my top 5 places around Seattle, so my bar is pretty high. Got chicken, tofu, and katsu, all of which were perfect. Cabbage dressing and sauces were great, lots of sesame and ginger flavor. Had a nice chat with the owner who was running the register, he clearly knows and cares about food. My only criticism was the rice in my order. More than half of it was gummy and compact. I'm sure this was just the bottom of the rice cooker and just bad luck, but it was disappointing because the sauce was so good I was looking forward to eating all of it. Small sitting area so all food is served to go which is nice because you usually have leftovers anyways even if you do get to sit. The owner took our orders and was very friendly/welcoming. I had the pork with mac salad and both were very fresh and tasty. No greasy, over sauced teriyaki here. Definitely not like all the other places around. Absolutely amazing chicken teriyaki! The macaroni salad and cabbage salad that come as sides are so so good it's made me reconsider Nikko's as being my favorite teriyaki spot. I'd recommend ordering online ahead of time because it's fairly busy around lunchtime. It's about time that this corner of West Seattle got some great restaurants! Great new spot. Service was good and staff was friendly. I ordered the chicken katsu combo and it was really satisfying and flavorful. My friend had the steak teriyaki and she loved it. Everything is gluten free which is a plus especially when so many have gluten issues as my work friend does...always makes it easier to know that won't be an issue.
