See my two small squares of fish. Can you see them?
Jodie C.

I came back today with my family. I had a good time but lunch missed the mark. The Artichoke dip was shocking when it came out. It was a cup of artichokes with some type of goo and sour cream, and red onions. I wasn't a fan. I dont understand this whole Pita chip fascination in Culpeper either. I dont like it. I ordered fish taco with pepper jack cheese, guacamole and coleslaw. I didnt know that the pepper jack would come pre-melted, onto my corn tortilla and the Guacamole and coleslaw also on the taco.. Thought guacamole and coleslaw would be side separate on the plate. Including the two small peices of mushy fish, everything was one note. No texture at all. This time around the French fries were good. My Kids dad got boneless wings. They look like they came off the kids menu. Staff was still as nice as last time.

Bacon cheeseburger with no bacon and a sad order of brava potatoes.

Here's a huge pet peeve of mine. When I order food for take out and I'm in the building doing it. I truly expect the establishment to check that my order is correct. Especially if there are hardly any customers. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger but there was no bacon. And wanted the brava potatoes but seriously look at the small amount, I mean come on they're potatoes. The chicken wings my partner ordered also tasted weird definitely not good and that for $30. It's disappointing!

Ruben, Cesar truffle wrap, sweet potato fries!

Sandwiches and wraps were delicious! Sweet potato fries with sweet dipping sauce on the side were the star of the show!

After visiting the cider lab in summer duck, we needed to grab a late lunch somewhere. We never visit the cute town of Culpepper and ultimately decided to visit Grill 309 based off of recent reviews. We were immediately greeted and told to sit wherever we like. We chose our seat, we were brought waters, but waited a little bit longer than we would have liked for someone to come and take our order. We were starving as we had not eaten breakfast yet. We decided on the Spinach and Artichoke dip for an appetizer, the Steak Wrap, and Build your own Burger. The spinach and artichoke dip tasted decent but wasn't as creamy and flavorful as I would have hoped it would be. However, I did love the fried pita chips they served it with. To be honest... I would eat those just by themselves. My boyfriend thought the steak wrap was delicious. There was a favorable about of steak, had great flavor, and the crunch of the green veggies they put in the wrap was a nice addition. My burger was tasty. I did have to send back my bun due to something being stuck to it but they immediately addressed the issue and compensated me by taking off the one IPA I ordered. The house made French fries stole the show! They are cut and made in house and were amazing. Overall we enjoyed the local environment and appreciated the highlights of the meal.

Pierogies, OK, but a little bit dry

During a recent business sojourn, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at this establishment, where we embarked on a culinary exploration of their diverse offerings. Before I go any farther, order the apple crumb cake right now and enjoy it! So dang good! The bruschetta, while conceptually sound, arrived somewhat compromised--the bread having surrendered its structural integrity to moisture. A pity, truly. The onion rings, however, were nothing short of magnificent--golden, crisp, and executed with a precision that would make any Southern kitchen proud. The pierogies presented an interesting dichotomy: admirable in flavor yet notably parched, wanting for the velvety embrace of sour cream or a delicate butter sauce - the beer cheese was not the right combination. My grilled cheese cheeseburger delivered an intriguing marriage of comfort food classics. The flavors harmonized beautifully, though I must note the bread-to-meat ratio was rather heavy-handed--an architectural imbalance that somewhat diminished an otherwise inspired creation. My dear wife's Italian sub featured quality ingredients, though the cured meats carried a salinity that, shall we say, announced its presence with rather too much enthusiasm. I daresay the apple crumb cake transcended mere dessert to become something of a revelatory experience. A perfect 10, without question. The delicate interplay of warm spices, cinnamon and buttery crumb achieved that rare balance of sophistication and comfort that defines the finest Southern baking traditions. My compliments to the pastry chef--this creation alone would merit a return visit. To those about to nosh, I salute you!!

The food was very fresh and was served out quickly. We sat outside on the patio, it was shaded with an umbrella and trees - very cool ambiance. They were busy for a Saturday lunch, lost track of an order - took it off our bill & made it fresh to go.

Visited Grill 309 for breakfast on a cool, rainy Saturday morning. As one walks up to the front of Grill 309 - the business looks dark - for a moment I thought the business was closed. Upon entering, I was advised to sit where ever I wanted. I took a table and was immediately presented with a menu. After looking over the breakfast options, I ordered their Sausage Gravy & Biscuits, plus two eggs over easy and a side of bacon, plus coffee and water. The food came out pretty quickly, I requested ketchup and hot sauce - I was brought two soufflé cups - one with ketchup - and one with hot sauce. The hot sauce looked and tasted like some variation of a Frank's style cayenne pepper hot sauce. Very thin consistency-wise, and no real heat. The Sausage Gravy and Biscuits were really good! Nice flavor - it actually tasted like a hint of sausage in the gravy - unlike many other places - where you can see the sausage bits in the gravy - but it tastes like nothing. I added some black pepper, salt, and hot sauce to the gravy - as per my Sausage Gravy Protocol. The eggs were overcooked. The breakfast potatoes looked and tasted like they had seen better days. And the bacon was also overcooked. Service was good. Paid with Apple Pay. #Grill309

Onion rings

Grill 309 feels like a neighborhood spot where the locals go for their regular. The food was good pub grub - just what we were in the mood for. Service was average. My shrimp Po Boy was very good and the French fries were excellent. I was disappointed in the onion rings. I am a huge fan of onion rings and thought ones battered and lightly fried to perfection served with your choice of dipping sauce were hard to refuse - but I wish I had. The onion rings did not meet my expectations. They were doughy and tasted more like beer than onion ring.

We were on a…read moreweekend trip in Shenandoah for our anniversary and craving a cozy local spot for a pizza and a beer. Far Gohn hit it out of the park. Definitely a local tavern...they reminded me more of the pubs you find in a small European town or the UK. Warm, cozy, and inviting. We immediately felt at home. Now to the people who complain here that they were "ignored" by the bartenders or that service took forever...read: local spot. If you're from out of town and you're expecting rushed service and the immediacy of the big city, this might not be the place for you. But if you're looking for something truly special, slide up to the bar. Be patient...the bartender will be there as soon as they're done listening to Old Bill tell his story. Order a beer and a pizza and take a seat at one of their small tables. Enjoy and unhurried drink. And right about the time you're feeling like ordering a second beer, your hot, delicious, perfectly cooked pizza will be dropping out of the ceiling on a dumb waiter (yes, from the ceiling...you read that right). Smother it in locally made hot sauce (an unexpected plus), grab your second beer and enjoy that delicious pizza with someone you love, or the new friend you made at the table next to you. But for God's sake, be patient, be kind, be respectful. Cause you're likely visiting, and Far Gohn is all about the local vibe!!

That being said, there's some issues with it that are hard to overlook. I'll start by saying that the staff are mostly really kind and professional. There have been one or two who looked like they hated their jobs, but everyone else has been attentive. There's not a whole lot of seating space available at this location. So, if you're trying to visit during peak hours, it might be a bit difficult. There's some outside seating available, but if it's raining or anything, it's not recommended. The chief problem I've had is with the pizza. Nevermind the fact a German style brewery is making pizzas - the pizzas themselves are an absolute hit or miss, with most of the time being misses. The pizzas are overpriced for how inconsistent the quality is. They're either just right or super crunchy and inedible. If you're ordering to-go, add 10-20 minutes to the wait time they give you and that's how long it'll actually take. If you're here for a decent brew, it's a decent brewery with a bit of a following in Culpeper and it's worth checking out. I'd steer clear of the pizzas.

Upon entering we were hit with what smelled like marijuana and we learned when leaving that there is a hookah lounge beneath this restaurant (extremely unfortunate!) The place has been renovated since the Thai restaurant was here and it was nice and bright and clean looking. There was only another party of 4 there when we entered and then another couple came in after us but it was very empty. We were greeted by a gentleman who brought waters for us and then took our orders. I ordered the Voldemort sandwich and my husband ordered the Potter wrap as well as the BlackBerry lemonade. Both sandwiches came with fries. The sandwiches were good but my husbands wrap was very small and mine was light on meat. The fries were nice and crispy and the blackberry lemonade was delicious. There was light rock music playing softly, ambiance was nice. All in all a good experience aside from the smell which was giving my husband a headache. I would probably return for dinner one night. I was trying to decide between giving this place 3 and 4 stars and opted on 4 because it's new (they have food trucks but the brick and mortar is new) and they're still getting things right and the fact that we came for lunch instead of dinner so the menu was very limited and I felt like maybe I wasn't getting the full experience.

They brought us amuse bouche of beet hummus and pita bread (on the house), and we then had the "beef sashimi" as an appetizer. I'm not usually into super rare beef, but this was outstanding. The beef melted in my mouth and the sauce and greens complimented it well. For the main course, I got the pork ribs, which may be the best I've had in my life. They came with a tangy barbecue sauce on the side, which was delicious but not really necessary given the flavor of the pork. Plenty of food, high quality, and good service! If they just tweaked the lighting and added some homey touches, they would have a line out the door. As it was, we were the only guests on a Friday evening. A shame since Culpeper has very few excellent restaurants, and the ones that exist are generally overpriced. We will definitely be coming back again!
