I had a long drive down to Culpepper yesterday, almost an hour and a half, to pick up a trailer at the Tractor Supply. When I got into town, for my first ever visit, I looked for a place to get lunch. There were several familiar chain options, but Steak N' Cheese Please caught my eye, seeing as how I am originally from the South Jersey area and could eat (good) cheesesteaks every day. I checked the bathroom, and it was immaculate. A good sign. I checked the menu. They offer a lunch special. $9.99 for a cheesesteak sub, fries and a soft drink? I thought, "How does McDonald's stay in business with competition like that?" So, I ordered the special, and was told by the staff that it was a family-owned restaurant, another good sign. The first thing I noticed was the roll. You cannot have a good cheesesteak without steak and cheese - everyone knows that. But what most people outside of the Philadelphia area seem to forget is that it is a sandwich, and as such, the quality and type of bread or roll plays a major role (pun intended) in the dining experience. The roll was fresh, and flavorful. I was told that it came from a bakery multiple times a week to ensure quality and freshness. The meat, cheese and peppers were generous, and expertly prepared. It was delicious. However, just as good as the sandwich were the fries. They were perfectly cut, seasoned, and fried. Not greasy, not dry. Perfect. I could make a meal out of the fries alone! And of course, no matter the meal, if the hosts are not amiable, and helpful, the experience will be disappointing. The owner, staff and even my fellow diners were to a soul extremely friendly. On Monday my husband ordered two subs, his was fine mine was a disaster. I ordered an "all in" minus mushrooms, I absolutely can't eat those. What I received was an all in with mushrooms and missing the lettuce and tomatoes and was drowning in mayo. A sloppy mess and the mushrooms forced me to throw it away. Wasted $12. read more

Was very disappointed tonight at The Steak and Cheese please Culpeper location. I have eaten here before and thought it was very good. Today it went from bad to worse! I ordered a chicken Philly toasted and received a steak and cheese. When I told them they got my order wrong they were nice and said they would remake it. When it was remade it was not toasted and by the time I got my sub my husband had finished his dinner. The eight fountain drinks that are offered three were out of order. When I chose Sprite it did not have any carbonation. When they came to the table to give us our food I told them that the Sprite had no carbonation and they said they would fix it, but did not. Before leaving I asked to speak to a manager, and older guy said he was not the manager, but could help me.... I think he was the owner. I told him everything that went wrong in his restaurant this evening and he said oh we'll try to do better next time. I replied there will be no next time. Will not be back. Okay - in honor of "National Sandwich Day" on Sunday, Nov. 4th, we decided to give this place another try. Ordered takeout online, duplicating our last order plus a couple of extra sides. "Regular Italian Sub" for me ($9.25) & "Buffalo Chicken & Ghost Cheese" for husband ($9.75). Sides were one "Seasoned Fries", one "Seasoned Tater Tots", & one "Seasoned Whiskey Onion Rings" - all $4 each. Husband's sub was rated "okay", & at least it wasn't the unbelievable MESS it was the last time. My sub was spectacular except for the same darn problem - whoever this place hires either can't read, is lazy & simply doesn't read, or is just plain lazy/sloppy. Because once again, even though I checked off & double-checked what I wanted on my sub, this time they left off the tomatoes & the hot relish!!! I honestly do not know how/why a sub place bothers to offer topping additions & then simply can't comply with the selections. And certainly not twice in a row!! So the sub itself was very good & overstuffed with the appropriate cold cuts - it was just annoying to have things left off AGAIN. I guess the only thing to do is not to order online anymore, go in person, & stand there & WATCH them make your sandwich like supervising children. Bottom Line: Ambivalent about this place for the $37.60 we dropped for two sandwiches & three sides. Sides were on the small side for $4 each & were nothing special. I had been looking forward to trying the "Whiskey" onion rings, but honestly they just tasted like regular old onion rings to us. It WAS good enough for us to want to return, but next time I think we'll stick to cold subs, which seem to be their forte', & again - hope to God someone is paying attention to our selections!! read more

Food was good and service was great! For a restaurant where most of the employees are in high school, they do their jobs, get the food out fast, and are very friendly. Everything was clean. Only complaint would be, there is not really enough seating. read more

What? I haven't reviewed here yet?! Well then. Didn't have a clue when we saw it being installed near the lil Caesar's. Mrs. found mention of it in her FB feed. Maybe three weeks after opening (wait for the bugs to work out), showed up. Meatball for me, cheesesteak for her (loaded on both). Discovered Mrs. just wants a traditional CS. I was happy with price/size. FF to recently, got her a proper CS, she was more receptive, I got the Reuben . Don't know what I'll try next, maybe an Italian (and I rarely get that). Just weaning myself away from the generic corporate chains, going back to mom & pop places. Like Pete's! read more

Very courteous and friendly! The steak and cheese is best when bread is toasted! The fries are REALLY good too! I highly recommend !

We ordered three steak and cheese with provolone one with onions one with banana peppers and one plain along with one kids, grilled cheese meal. Everything was correct on the order and still warm. We got home with the exception of the juice box for the kids meal. They forgot no big deal. The bread was nice and soft and fluffy however the meat was terrible. Very greasy flavorless and full of hard gristle. The meat did not taste bad like it was spoiled, but it did taste like a low-grade beef, and was more of a coarse ground meat versus a sliced meat like you would normally fine on a steak and cheese. I have eaten here previously one time and got the club which was very good so I will have to try something else again besides the steak and cheese. read more

The service is very friendly and fast. The role was mediocre at best. There was very little meat inside the sandwich and it was $10 for a 6 inch sandwich. Very bad value! I do have to say for Virginia they mix the cheese well I just wish there was a lot more meat read more

We love this place!! Cheese steaks made to order and stuffed with steak. We always eat in because good cheese steaks should be eaten on the spot. Best fries in Culpeper.
