As a commuter through the state of Virginia, I easily could have stopped at one of innumerable NOVA…read morerestaurants, or in Charlottesville, but I determined that this place in relatively rural Culpepper was worth a shot. The owners have a separate Thai restaurant downtown; this noodle-focused pan-Asian place is newer. I tried to manage expectations, but was impressed in every respect. The brick corner building has received an interesting buildout and Bose speakers trumpet mood music. The menu is broad and includes some vegan options. I ordered some dumplings, which I wouldn't have done if I'd known how huge the entree would be, but the dumplings were excellently presented with vegetable garnish and I ate them quickly. They offer a series of tropical fruit drinks, and I got one with longan, which is a little like lychee; the beverage came in its own bottle and had several whole longan fruits in it and was sweet and strongly flavored. Despite the strong start, I still expected less from my ramen that what I ultimately got. Even a good premium ramen bowl rarely has the beautiful array of vegetable toppings I got here, including pickled ginger, kimchi, mushrooms, corn, and bok choy. Ample tofu was provided for protein and the noodles were of a green kale-infused variety. I was offered dried pepper for seasoning and a spice tray if I needed it, but the thought barely occurred to me. It was an enormous bowl and I ended up taking some of it to go. I was easily going to give them the five stars even before they offered me a complimentary dessert that was a little bit like a sticky mochi. The one thing I'd ask is that they label the menu a bit more clearly as I got the sense that a lot of the general Thai dishes could be vegan but it wasn't as clear as I would have liked it to be. But the quality and variety of flavors was as good as I could possibly ask for.

We really enjoyed starting our dinner with happy hour, which offers a nice selection of drinks and appetizers. The real highlight here, though, is the fresh seafood! The steamed blue crabs were absolutely the star of the meal. They were seasonal male crabs, incredibly fresh, and full of solid meat. The large crabs were quite impressive in size, too! It is hard to find restaurants in Northern Virginia that serve fresh blue crabs this delicious, so this was a real treat. We also ordered the spiced shrimp, which was very fresh and flavorful. The Alaskan king crab legs were pretty good as well, with several clusters included in the order, making it a generous portion. The margaritas were really good, and we ended the meal with the peanut butter pie for dessert. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect way to finish our dinner! Overall, if you are looking for fresh seafood, especially seasonal steamed blue crabs in Northern Virginia, this restaurant is definitely worth checking out. We really enjoyed our meal and would come back for the crabs and that delicious peanut butter pie!

It came with a hot marinara sauce. It was delicious. My mother ordered broiled flounder with baked potatoes and salad. I ordered make my own 3 items which included fried Soft shell crab, fired scallops and crab cake with sides of baked potatoes and onion rings. All dishes came with hush puppies. My sister had fried oysters. They said the broiled flounder had no taste. I liked all my dishes though the crab cake was saltier for me than I normally like. They give you all sorts of sauce and special butter for the baked sweet potatoes. The waitress was really nice and came back and refilled my soda a lot. It's an old restaurant and the ambience is lots of people come here for seafood. Considering it's not close to any sea, it's pretty good. I forgot to take photos to share. When we left around 6:30 the parking lot was full and people were waiting for tables.

Just look at the photos- you can see the perfection. Family owned- there were three (maybe four) generations behind the counter and we watched them bread and fry the shrimp and cook everything on demand. Nothing is frozen or pre made. The guys were friendly and fun to chat with; felt like you're at home. This is by far the best soul food seafood restaurant I've ever been to, and besides one other place in Front Royal that offers very different fare it's the best place to get a meal. Please visit this establishment so they stay in business forever. This is the food we all deserve.

It was a great choice, especially since I was in the mood for some soul food! I ordered the catfish platter, which came with two sides (mac n cheese and collard greens), and a couple hush puppies. It was a hefty amount for $20! It's enough to save and eat for another meal. My cousin ordered the shrimp po' boy, which she allowed me to try some. It was also very delicious, but it was a bit on the salty side. Overall, we were very pleased, and I will definitely stop by again when I'm next in the area.
