Exterior street view. Entrance on the left just before the green awning

Stopped in for the coffee, stayed for the crab dip! Came in while waiting for the remnants of the Orange County Christmas parade to finish traveling through. Seated right away with pleasant smiling faces. Coffee was brought out right away and hot and the crab dip was amazing. Hot and fresh, the bread is soft with a crunchy crust. If you're in town and you're looking for a nice place to eat this is where you wanna go. Historically if you want to come for a holiday (like Mother's Day) probably would recommend a reservation. High-backed booths for a private feel, table and chairs for bigger parties or disability seating and seating in the back bar area and side banquet rooms. It's been a while since I've been here since I have moved out of town, but I was not disappointed to visit this local favorite today for a snack and a coffee. Others around me ordering dinner had lovely plates and I heard no complaining from the surrounding tables

Atmosphere was good, food was good, service was fair. I would definitely return! Prices were reasonable.

Absolutely love this place. Gives very local vibes - a classic local restaurant. Servers are great and always remember your face. I had the carrot cake w/ ice cream - cream cheese icing. Yum, yum, yum. You won't be disappointed.

Refused service this evening due to having a service dog. The women at the front is wildly misinformed. I took the liberty of contacting the health department. Just as a heads up, i am not required to present you with documentation of my canine. There is no real database which service dogs are listed. If you see documentation, That most likely isn't a real service dog. She requested to be served this evening I would have to put my cardiac alert dog in the car, my life is more important, we politely declined. I have had my service dog for 4 years and have NEVER been treated this way before..... Edit: heard back from the health department, whom are personal friends. Virginia Food Code follows the FDA Food Code & it follows the ADA. See photo attached. It reads as follows: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has guidelines for distinguishing between a pet and a service animal. A service animal means any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. An animal providing emotional support, well-being, comfort, or companionship is not a service animal. Food establishment staff are only legally allowed to ask two questions to determine if a dog is a service animal: 1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? And 2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person's disability.

    Grand snowy entrance!

Invited here by friends on a snowy Sunday for brunch! First thing I noticed the place was empty so we had no problem finding tables and seats for a group of 10! I am sure the hostess and wait staff was glad to customers. The appetizer, spinach dip was excellent. The ice tea/lemonade mix was absolutely refreshing and delicious! I put in our order of Steak omelet with sourdough toast and potatoes and the food arrived within 10 minutes. We received a generous portion of everything. It was excellent, I thought the omelet was a little runny and perhaps not fully cooked but overall it tasted good. I thought after receiving the food perhaps I should order something else. I did not think what I had ordered was epic. However, the other folks who were with us really enjoyed their food. So it could be an excellent place. Since I have been taken out by someone else to be treated, I did not want to change the order midstream. The wait staff was excellent and very helpful. I would certainly try this place again! Overall I recommend this place! Thank you for the memories!

This place is a gem!! Five stars aren't enough! The food was DELICIOUS!! The ribs were tender and fell off the bone. The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection. Our server, Priscilla, was on point. She made our experience one to remember and will be going back whenever we're in town. The ambiance was quite cozy.

John behind the bar is you're go to guy! He asked our names and then remembered them throughout the whole night (2hrs on a sat night)! Ordered the Mussels in white sauce-which was light & huge-yum. 12 raw oysters-4 different kinds, loved all 8 options! Had the special-trust the chef or John. We had the crab cakes which were delicious-as expected! The main room or bar is ideal but the covered patio is worth the wait! Oh yeah, and the free fries they brought us-delicious!

This is probably our favorite restaurant here in cville, and even after many years, it is still consistently amazing! We ordered a dozen raw oysters of different brine levels, and they tasted so fresh. I especially loved the oysters from Breakwaters Newport, RI. My favorite main to order here is always the Moules Frites. Tried the Classic Mariniere, and it was SO DELICIOUS OMG. The sauce was decadent, that I had to make sure to soak up every mussel and the crostinis. And idk how they do it, but their frites are perfectly seasoned and crispy! The portions for this is pretty large, and shared some with my husband too, and is worth every penny. My husband tried the Rockfish with Chimichurri, with was also very good and fresh! Loved the crispy skin with the chimicurri sauce, gave a nice crunch! But I felt the portion size was a bit on the smaller end For dessert, LOVED the Apple Crumble, not too sweet, loved the contrast of the vanilla ice cream with the warmed apples, and loved the layer of oats on top, gives really good contrast in texture

I've eaten crab cakes all over including several famous MD crab cakes and I work at a fresh seafood market where we make our own crab cakes. So when I say I know my crab cakes.... I know my crab cakes. Talk of the mountain: this is a super cute and friendly small restaurant located on Main Street. It is very local friendly and the kind of place the staff/owners would know your name and your regular order. I LOVE that. The staff are warm and inviting. You can watch them breading your food and chat with them as you eat. I loved watching. We got the crab cake with fried oysters and shrimp plate with Mac n cheese and fries and hush puppies and another fried shrimp plate with their slaw. It was pretty pricey but we expected that when buying quality seafood. The fried shrimp were absolutely incredible as were the fried oysters (minus the pearl my son found in the one he ate... but again not too much of a surprise). The taste was great, the cook time was perfect, they were delicious! The fries were seasoned and tasty as were the hush puppies (nothing to scream about but definitely good!) the slaw was good (according to my son... I'm not a slaw person). The Mac n cheese was definitely different but not exactly mind blowing. I felt indifferent I didn't love it and feel like I needed it tomorrow, but it wasn't bad. I honestly didn't have an opinion either way on it but I did eat it. The crab cake. The good: this was literally packed with crab meat. Obviously we seek out places that Jam Pack their crab cakes with actual pieces of quality lump crab. Talk of the Mountain certainly does this.... In my opinion to the extreme. When they say zero fillers, they MEAN IT. So does zero fillers make a good crab cake? In my opinion not this way. It was not my cup of tea and I love crab and crab cakes (obviously). It seemed like their formula for the binder was a mustard based concoction and then it was solid crab. The flavor left a lot to be desired and it didn't feel like eating crab cake because there was no filler at all. Making crab cakes is such a delicate balance, a true art in my opinion and while TOTM most definitely is serious about ensuring you taste the crab in their "cakes" the end result was more of a pile of lump crab with a sauce. All that being said I would absolutely eat there again. They were fabulous and I truly applaud their style. This is just my personal perspective from the one visit. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area! Rating: my knee jerk is to give this a 4 because I really am not a fan of the Crabcake and would not order it again, however everything else and the people were 10 stars so I feel like a 5 star rating is deserved. If they ever modified their recipe I would try it again happily AND will def eat there again. The shrimp and oyster was phenomenal.
