Mario's is our go-to spot before every basketball game, and it never misses. The pizza is consistently great, with a perfect crust and plenty of toppings every time. It's the kind of place you can count on, whether you're grabbing a quick bite or hanging out with friends before tipoff. We were passing through Orange and stopped at Mario's for lunch. What a pleasant surprise to get a hunk of warm Italian bread right off the bat. We both got chicken Caesar salads, which were terrific. If we ever pass through Orange again, we'll definitely stop for an Italian dinner. The service was great and the prices very reasonable. Google had the wrong hours of operation so we got there a few minutes before ACTUAL closing time. They welcomed us and never made us feel rushed as they closed the facility. Well...three strikes (we've given Mario's a lot more than 3) and you're out. The prices have gotten just absolutely ridiculous and for the money, just no where near worth it. Supreme pizzas have gotten much skimpier on the toppings, and if you order a half supreme, you're lucky if you get those same skimpy toppings on 1/3 of the pizza. This has happened a few times. The menu is deceptive regarding prices. There are surprise up charges upon pick up that are not disclosed on the menu. The pizza doesn't completely "suck", but it's very inconsistent and far from great. Service? Sucks. Value for the money? Sucks. Accuracy? Sucks. We always end up walking out of here feeling kind of angry and like we got gypped and paid too much for a crappy pizza, so we are now 100% done patronizing this establishment. Wow. I've traveled the country and been to great places and I've been to some really bad ones. This looks like something from the before in Restaurant Impossible. I doubt Robert Irvine could fix this place. I won't say it's the worse restaurant I've been in, but it's clearly in the bad group. I've lived in Orange almost 4 years and gone by here many times. Today we decided to go in as Wise Guys is gone and Joe Joes was closed. We came in during a slow time. The middle of the afternoon. Only one table with a couple eating. Otherwise the place was empty minus the staff. Tables were dirty and not bussed. The waitress was up front p, she came over and took our drink order. Then ignored us. It was so bad we eventually walked out. 10 plus minutes to get a drink while empty "enjoying" looking at every table and booth covered with the remains of previous customers isn't a good sign. Worse when we walked out the waitress seemed glad. While sitting it was clear the owners and people who run this place don't care. It's old and worn. And not in a good way. It's the old worn we don't care way seen on Resturant Impossible. I'm actually glad we never even got our drink order. If the place is this dirty and the staff cares so little I hate to think how careful they are preparing the food and cleaning the dishes. If the tables and rest of the place are an indicator I know the answer. It's sad Wise Guys closed while this dump is still open. Those guys cared, they were everything this place isn't. Eat here at your own risk, that is if you're ever served. To the owners. Contact Robert Irvine you need to be on Resturant Impossible. At the least watch the show. You're a before. All You Can Eat Pizza, Salad, Bar, Hot Seafood, Italian Entrees, and Desserts. How hard is it to mess that up? Well, it turns out it isn't that hard at all. Nope, not hard at all. In fact, all you have to do is put food out at lunch that nobody wants and then just relax for the rest of the afternoon/evening. We were at Mario's Pizzeria for over an hour. When we sat down there was part of one meat pizza and one dessert pizza available. They were rock hard and slimy at the same time. Pretty icky pizza. What sucked is that I kept waiting for more to come out. Waiting and waiting. None ever did. Ever. So, we were left with the other warm dishes and salads. Pics of everything is uploaded with this review. None of it was very good and some of it was really bad. The fried seafood choices had clearly been sitting under the heat lamps for a while. Do you like your fried shrimp "crispy" without flavor? Olivia did take solace in the peel-n-eat shrimp. They were edible. The lasagna, fried chicken, mac-n-cheese, pasta, and steak had all been sitting there for hours. We came at dinner time and it was quickly obvious why the place was so quiet. The quality of the food just was horrible since it had been out all day in those heated trays. The steak was especially tough and chewy. I couldn't finish a small piece. Salad options were limited, but turned out to be the safest and therefore easiest. To be honest, I feel pretty bad about giving Mario's Pizzeria one star because the server who brought refills and cleared the plates was especially nice. She deserves better than this. Note to self: Next time you go to an All-You-Can-Eat place that doesn't have any customers for dinner be prepared for some old, dry, hard, and generic food or just simply don't go. It was just the average sub you get everywhere else. I didn't realize the ownership had changed and along with that was a change to the sub. Not bad and not great at the same time. I figured that based on reviews and a glance over at the buffet, I better play it safe and get a sandwich. I am glad I did. The buffet gets one star because of the unappealing and old food. I ordered from the menu and only ordered a tuna sub which was fine. It was a typical mayo-based tuna salad on a sub roll with provolone, onion and tomato. Pizza slices were also ordered at our table. The pizza was plain cheese and was nothing special. Edible. We used to come top Mario's all the time. We started working in NOVA again and hasn't been here in a year. What a difference that time makes! The buffet looked like fake food on display. I don't think that a single thing was edible, including the salad. The restaurant used to be full of customers at 7pm. We were the only ones there tonight. I got the pizza steak and she, the stromboli. My pizza steak was done nicely. I added mushrooms to mine and they were fresh, not canned. The roll was toasted to hold up to the steak, cheese, and sauce. I saved half for later. The stromboli was a whole different world. First bite netted what seemed to be half of an unchopped onion...you know...the bottom that you didn't trim enough so the root core is still there? Next came the sour green peppers. That was the second and last attempt to eat it. We told the waiter about this and still had to ask for it to be taken off at the register. The "owner" (I say it this way because, darn it, Ignacio needs to come back!) grumbled about having to take it off, but did. Unfortunately, we'll not be going back unless we know the real Mario is back. His daughter just doesn't care and it shows all over the restaurant. read more

I am a local resident and with the High Meals Tax, here in Orange, I usually just get a pizza for take out. It is the BEST tasting pizza around. They also include a styrofoam container for extra sauce and one with extra parmesan cheese. This is an every weekend dinner, so they have come to know us by name. Marios pizza is by far better than Fabio's in Gordonsville and better than Ciro's in Culpeper. I am not a fan of Buffet's, so I can't add any comments to that. THERE WAS 3 IN OUR PARTY NO ONE WAS HAPPY: I will NEVER eat there again. My Daughter & I ordered the chicken quesadillas which is suppose to be: Grilled chicken w/ mozzarella cheese, roasted red peppers and sauteed onions. The chicken was cut up so fine you couldn't tell it was chicken (or not), very little cheese, NO roasted peppers and some onions. Came with Sour Cream and NOT salsa ..... Tomato Sauce. When I pointed out that it was tomato sauce & asked for salsa .... I was told "This isn't a Mexican restaurant". I used to work there as a delivery driver and prep cook. So when I say don't eat there I mean it. There is nothing fresh other than the pizza dough which isn't the best. The sauce is canned the fried stuff is frozen the pasta is frozen they have a completely apathetic way of thinking and doing things there. At the end of the day the stuff on the buffet is taken to the cooler and then in the morning it is put right back out fish fried stuff everything. How people don't constantly get sick eating here I have no idea. After one day of working there and seeing how they treat their food I decided not to eat there even if it was for free. read more

I have been going here for the last 10 years and I love their steak subs! Mario's is a local Italian Restaurant located in Downtown Orange and they have been in Business for years (over 25 I think). They are family owned and operated, Ignazio is from Italy and has been cooking up some of the best Calzone's in the area. They offer a Lunch/Dinner Buffet for low price as well as deliver for a $10 minimum. I am not a huge of the buffet as some of the food in the late afternoon or after the main dinner crowd can sometimes taste "old" as if they sat for just little too long on the buffet line. But the real reason I go here and for anyone to try this place are the amazing Cheese Steaks! I love the A-1 Cheese Steak and the Pizza Steak, not only are they tasty they are loaded with meat! In most other establishments you can expect at "steak-um" like sandwich that tastes bland and greasey. With Mario's the steaks are seasoned and taste like steak - not overly greasy and bland. THe staff are also very friendly and attentive. I don't always eat in so I can't speak too much on the wait staff - but when I do go, I don't have a complaint and my drink is always full - never have to ask for a re-fill (always a plus)!!! read more

So decided to get the homemade lasagna. If it was homemade, it was made last month and kept frozen. Ground beef? I don't know what it was but should have told me it was squirrel. We have lived in Orange for about 8 years now and have been eating at Mario's for a while. I moved out from Charlottesville where there were many places to pick from, and I travel quite a bit for work around the country. We have enjoyed everything we've had from Mario's. I have a strict "No Buffet" rule (I worked in one about 20 years ago and have never eaten at one since). But everything we've ordered off the menu has been good. The pizza is New York Style and we haven't had any problems with it. The service and staff are friendly as can be, and they have a weekly "Kids Night" on Wednesdays that can't be beat. For FREE your kids get a slice of cheese pizza and they play a movie in a special party room. On top of that, as a parent you can get 2 slices of pizza and a drink for $3.99. We can take our entire family of 5 out for pizza and a movie for $8. I've never had an issue with cleanliness or poor food quality. I know that anywhere and anyone can have an off day, so hopefully the other reviews on here were one-off issues. Since we eat there fairly regularly, I can tell you that it's worth stopping in - just order hot food off the menu! :-) read more

The cheese steak and fried mushrooms are my two favorite things to have and although still good they aren't great like they used to be. My in-laws were moving a lot of stuff between central and northern Virginia last week and Mario's was the last restaurant open when we reached Orange. The staff seemed friendly enough and the four of us were so hungry, we would have welcomed just about anything. We tried to find their menu online but it turns out you have to use Facebook and view their photos to see it. Imagine riding shotgun down a bumpy road with mixed cell service and scrolling through dozens of images of random junk in order to find one poor image of a single page of the menu and then having to repeat it multiple times. At long last we gave up and our wives drove to the restaurant while we unloaded furniture at the house. The girls put in their order in two parts. A couple of calzones (first order) and two subs and some wings (second order). Unfortunately when the cashier brought out the food, they had forgotten the subs but produced the hot food. When this was pointed out, the first reaction was, "but you didn't order subs". Receipt was produced. "Oh." Ten or twelve minutes later, the philly cheese steak sub and the chicken sub were produced and the girls headed back to the house. When we dug into the food, we were quickly repulsed by a couple of things. 1.) the chicken wings were over-cooked on the outside but raw on the inside. 2.) the chicken sub was nowhere to be found-we had been given two philly cheese steaks though the box on one was labeled "chiken." 3.) one of the calzones had incorrect fillings and 4.) the fries were stale and hard as if they had been sitting for a long while. To make matters worse, three of the four of us got ill from the food. Needless to say, we won't be returning. Friendly, albeit unmotivated work staff, poor food quality and prices that reflected just the opposite. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. read more
