We haven't been to this place before for dinner and man we're we blown away. The place is small and quaint. Service is excellent. They were all over us making sure we had everything. I was visiting Orange, Virginia and it was very difficult finding a restaurant that was open on New Year's Eve. Luckily Spoon and Spindle had good reviews so I wanted to give it a try. I had reservations for 7:30 and upon arrival there were at least five tables in front of me still waiting to be seated. The place is nicely decorated, but on the smaller side. There is only a dining room, no bar. Although there was a bit of a wait to get seated, our drinks and food came out fairly quickly. The mixed drinks were not good. Next time I would stick to wine but the food was okay. The Brussels were absolutely delicious. The hush puppies were very dense and the Poboy was desperate for sauce. We came here after a day of touristing near by and it was delicious. I have to start off by complimenting the staff. They were so friendly, helpful with suggestions, and so attentive. It was an absolutely delightful experience from that stand point. The menu is seasonal (if I'm not mistaken) and limited, which was great because we almost got to try everything with the size of our party. The absolute favorite for the table was the Bonsai Fries. We nearly licked that bowl clean and may have even ordered a second one. The Po Mi was delicious, as was the Garlic Noodle Bowl. The Braised Short Ribs were a tad on the sweeter side than our pallet likes, but it was fall off your fork tender. Five stars for service and ambience, and the shrimp toast. Unfortunately, the mains were a big let down. I was in the mood for a fork and knife meal, not a pickup and get messy situation. Even though our server highly recommended the burgers and the chicken sandwiches, and they did sound good, I veered toward the chef's section of the menu. There were about five dishes to choose from and they all sounded pretty good so I went with the crab linguine and my husband ordered the chicken schnitzel. The funny thing was that the linguine came out ... but was very much spaghetti noodles and not linguine noodles. There was crispy bread crumbs as advertised but that was the main feature of the dish and not the noodles or the crab. The sauce was minimal so it was really like eating a fairly dry, sandy bowl of spaghetti noodles with lumps of crab thrown in. There was zero garnish on either of our dishes and no color. My husband's schnitzel was extremely crispy and good, but just mashed potatoes, chicken and a little cream sauce on the bottom of the plate. Everything was extremely tan. The only green we had the entire meal was thinly sliced jalapenos on our crab toast. I realize there were veggie sides we could have ordered, but I didn't feel like committing to a whole side salad. I assumed there would be a sprig of broccoli or something to make me feel like I was eating more than just some noodles and crab meat. Not a big win this time. If I do return I would stick to ordering the sandwiches. Our server did say they had recently gotten a new chef, so I'm sure they're working out kinks (and in hindsight, she was probably trying to give me a hint). Don't write them off, but ask a lot of questions before ordering...and take a clue from the waitress if she tried to steer you toward something. I'd give 3 stars if I thought this was the norm, but judging from pictures, it looks like there used to be lots of color on the plates. Hopefully the new chef finds some inspiration....and color. read more

I wasn't super hungry so I wanted something light and went for the won ton salad. It was DELICIOUS. Loved everything about it, and it was big--very filling. The brussels sprouts were also amazing. I never would have expected to find this kind of fusion place in Orange. Drinks were on point. The location in a more industrial building and not having a clear hostess desk was a little confusing initially. There weren't a lot of people in the restaurant at the time and the hostess wasn't out, so we just hovered awkwardly until she came out. We brought the family here to celebrate our parents' wedding anniversary. They were able to accommodate the 13 of us in the room across from the primary restaurant. Service was fantastic! Our waitress was extremely attentive while still leaving us down time to make toasts, play a few games, and otherwise chat and reminisce. As for food, our favorites had to be the Loaded Mac and Cheese and the Crab cake sandwich. Yum! read more

Staying in Orange for a long weekend and stumbled upon this establishment last night after checking in at the place we're staying. We walked in and the place was empty so naturally we were hesitant (tropical storm Debby was rolling through and there was a tornado watch...) but we ended up having the best evening! The food was fantastic! Everything from our apps to dessert was flavorful and perfectly presented. Our server was also wonderful and we had a good time chatting with her. My husband and I just had a fantastic dinner here. We started off sharing the Brussel sprouts, They were amazing. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio (after the waitress let me have samples of 2 whites). My husband had the martini with Cucumbers. He said it was delicious. I had the short rib over rice with micro greens. It was perfection. My husband had the pork loin and loved it. They had many desserts to choose from. I really love bienets but they are better when you eat them when they are just made , so I went with the Key lime cheesecake to take home. The inside is well decorated with a pretty built-in floor to ceiling bookshelf along one wall and about a dozen or so tables. Standard but great southern brunch menu fare. Biscuits and gravy, parfait, avocado toast, etc. I chose a cathead biscuit Benedict with bacon egg and fried green tomato. Sooo good. We also tried the yogurt parfait and the Bonut of the week which is a huge portion of a blueberry biscuit/donut. The yogurt parfait was also delicious with some great house-made granola. Everything was great and out quickly and our server was so friendly and attentive. He asked how we found the place and then said they had only been open for a few weeks. You'd never know! This place is nestled in downtown Orange. It's off of the main road but you have to look for the signs. They have a hall to allow them to cater events as well as the restaurant. We went there for brunch and the menu was very good. The food didn't take long to come out, and they offer shareable items on the menu as well. The brunch menu offers a variety, from traditional breakfast food to southern to steak. The servers are very friendly, and we were told that they actually taste the menu items in order to give quality recommendations to customers. We enjoyed the setting of the place. We visited Montpelier and we were lucky to find this place to eat. We almost missed it as it was a little hard to find from the road. It is small. Server was very friendly and made great suggestions. The hush puppies were just about perfect super crispy shell moist and almost fluffy inside. Not greasy. Served with a hot sauce dipping sauce which was good even though we don't usually like anything spicy. We used the sauce sparingly I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Always in search of a great breakfast place for Sunday mornings and we decided to head up to Orange, to give this restaurant a shot. Pretty cool looking place once you get inside and the service was great. We ordered the avocado toast, blueberry bread pudding, breakfast fried rice and Kent's Big Breakfast. The bread pudding was great. The avocado toast could have stood with a little less seasoning. I would rather under salt it and let the customer add a little more, than over salt it and the customer is forced to eat something they don't love. I loved my biscuits and gravy, because the biscuit was so fluffy, but it was a little cold on one side, like it had to wait on everything else to come out. One of the best brunch spots in Orange! I went to Spoon & Spindle on Saturday morning and it was a great experience. The restaurant was busy and had a pleasant energy to take in during the morning. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly. For how busy the restaurant was, our food came out quickly and was all presented beautifully. The french toast I had was good, I was able to substitute bacon for berries which were also decent. The beignets (which I missed a pic of) were definitely the highlight.
