We visited Montpelier and we were lucky to find this place to eat. We almost missed it as it was a little hard to find from the road. It is small. Server was very friendly and made great suggestions. The hush puppies were just about perfect super crispy shell moist and almost fluffy inside. Not greasy. Served with a hot sauce dipping sauce which was good even though we don't usually like anything spicy. We used the sauce sparingly I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. Again it was super crispy on the outside and and juicy on the inside. The Brussels sprouts were fantastic. My husband had the oyster poboy. He said one of the best he's ever had. And the onion straws were really really tasty. read more

Always in search of a great breakfast place for Sunday mornings and we decided to head up to Orange, to give this restaurant a shot. Pretty cool looking place once you get inside and the service was great. We ordered the avocado toast, blueberry bread pudding, breakfast fried rice and Kent's Big Breakfast. The bread pudding was great. The avocado toast could have stood with a little less seasoning. I would rather under salt it and let the customer add a little more, than over salt it and the customer is forced to eat something they don't love. I loved my biscuits and gravy, because the biscuit was so fluffy, but it was a little cold on one side, like it had to wait on everything else to come out. My wife enjoyed her fried rice but i did not care for it, merely because it's breakfast and it's fried rice... All photos provided by my wife. She has threatened physical violence. read more

One of the best brunch spots in Orange! I went to Spoon & Spindle on Saturday morning and it was a great experience. The restaurant was busy and had a pleasant energy to take in during the morning. Our server was extremely attentive and friendly. For how busy the restaurant was, our food came out quickly and was all presented beautifully. The french toast I had was good, I was able to substitute bacon for berries which were also decent. The beignets (which I missed a pic of) were definitely the highlight. Also worth mentioning that the menu is huge and super diverse! Definitely stop in if you find yourself in Orange one morning! read more

This was one of best brunches in my entire life! The staff was over the top incredible. We were even able to meet the amazing chef. His food is not only displayed as a beautiful art work, but the taste is INSANE!!! So delicious. I will be coming here every time I am in the area! My advice is to order as a group so you can try lots. I can't even recommend a specific item because everything was 10/10.... Do yourself a favor and check out this spot! read more

This was so good. I had the shrimp etouffee, my wife had summer berry salad and my daughter had chicken and waffles. All were excellent. Chef Zach also treated us to beignet for dessert, which completed a great experience. The atmosphere was very relaxed and comfortable. When we are in the area, will definitely go again. read more

They answered the phone when we called to make a reservation, but the experience went downhill from the moment we walked in. We were seated quickly, but have now been waiting over 30 minutes just to get water. When we asked the host if we could switch tables, he seemed flustered and responded, "If you don't like your table, I don't know what to tell you," before walking off. So much for Southern hospitality. read more

This place is really a hidden gem! We were looking for a place in Orange which was open, while we were passing through on our way home in Fredericksburg. The menu offers an amazing variety, and the food is absolutely amazing! Judging from the presentation and taste, the chef is a graduate from culinary school, and the staff is both friendly and helpful with menu choices. Do yourself a favor and stop by, you'll be glad you did! We can't wait to come back! read more

This place is the real deal. After reading many reviews of the restaurant, I assumed people were being nice in their assessment of this tucked away restaurant. But, boy was I wrong. We visited for Saturday brunch and while the restaurant was busy, we were promptly seated. Some notes about the food.. a) It all had great flavor and taste b) The portion sizes were very generous There was not a single thing we ordered that we felt was inferior to anything else and we made a valiant (but failed) effort to finish everything we had ordered. Some recommendations, the Fried Chicken Burrito, shrimp and grits, and the biscuits and gravy. We'll definitely be visiting again. read more

This place is happening! Despite being very busy at lunch, they were able to fit us in. The waitstaff here is super friendly and very attentive. The food is spectacular. I had one crabcake over succotash and roasted brussels sprouts and I'm leaving here very full and happy :-) the decor is eclectic and very attractive. read more

Really good stuff. Everything on the menu has been perfected, yet I consistently find myself ordering the poké-inspired bowl with hot-smoked salmon. This stuff rocks! Great find. We'll be back! Great food great service. Sometimes unexpected pit stops lead to deliciousness.

Hubby and I went looking for a good breakfast/brunch spot. Decided to try Spoon & Spindle. Here's the breakdown: Cute little restaurant with charming and modern ambiance. Ordered hot tea and water. Hot tea selections were minimal and aside from a lemon/ginger tea you'll find basic choices. Some fruity/seasonal options would have been nice. They did have honey which is a plus. Served in a mug minus a plate. I'd ask for a plate for your spoon and tea bag otherwise plopping it on the table is an option. Water served in a cute mason jar. Blueberry Breakfast Bread Pudding ($5) made with French Toast, Blueberries, Honey Butter, Lemon Royal Icing. Very sweet, lacked french toast flavor. Should read blueberry sauce as there were not fresh blueberries. My taste buds looked for then but I'm not sure where the honey butter or lemon flavors were in the royal icing. Avocado Toast ($10) on Grilled Sourdough, Avocado, "Local Garden". Pretty to look at with "local garden" being paper thin radish, arugula, and pickled onion. Went well together. Sliced avocado was fresh and sourdough toast was soft. Special item: Breakfast fried rice was unique and was a smorgasbord of breakfast items (egg, sausage, steak, and bacon) tossed with rice and Asian sauces. Interesting. Would be tasty with added potatoes and avocado. I'll keep fried rice to my lunch/dinner options. Hubby ordered Kent's Big Breakfast ($16) Two Eggs Your Way, Biscuit & Gravy, Bacon, Spuds, Grits. Eggs ordered scrambled with cheddar cheese and arrived that way. The bite of biscuits and gravy I helped myself to had cold gravy and the biscuit was airy versus a good ol dense texture. Bacon was soft and lacking just a little crisp. Spuds were little squares and couldn't tell if the were fresh or frozen and the grits were well, grits. Friendly staff. Overall, it was an okay breakfast and we'd probably give it another go and try other menu options. Enjoy! read more

Probably the best food in the entire area! Creative dishes (can you say "bonut?"), reasonable prices, huge portions (just look at my CHIMICHANGA pic), modern farmhouse ambiance, and great tastes in every course to boot. When you are near finishing a meal and already wondering if you should return the next day, you know you have it good. Real good! Course reviews below: 1) Bonut (4.5/5) - I have tried a lottt of things, but have never encountered a biscuit/donut hybrid before (which is essentially a baked biscuit made into the shape of a donut). Admittedly, the first bite wasn't so eye-popping, though perhaps I was expecting a softer donut-y consistency, and this was instead very doughy and dense. After that mental confusion, though, every bite was delish with the dough complimenting well with ample berry/cream sauce. 2) Scotch Egg (4.5/5) - Part 2 of "I have tried a lottt of things, but have never encountered" this before! A boiled egg wrapped in sausage and coated and deep fried with breadcrumbs? I loved how neither the sausage or the egg overpowered one another. And there was a nice flavor zing to the sausage itself. Per the pic, this was also artistically presented sitting on a hash brown (which was actually a nice compliment). 3) Chorizo Chimichanga (5/5) - This was on the Specials menu on the white board, and we all need to do our part as a community/society/world and call the owner of Spoon & Spindle and demand this be put on the permanent menu FOREVER. It is THAT good. A gigantic burrito with both a soft tortilla wrapped around a deep friend tortilla (which somehow holds its texture throughout the eating experience) and packed full of chorizo, eggs, potatoes, and sauce (of which Spoon & Spindle does not skimp on). Flavors galore. Happy belly galore. One of my favorite brunch items ever! read more

Cute, small space but overall, food was just mediocre. We ordered the brunch burrito which had steak, peppers and onion in it. It was pretty tasty but nothing mind-blowing. We ordered the eggs Benedict that came with a side of potatoes. Potatoes were just a tad dry, and the hollandaise sauce tasted odd. Coffee also tasted diluted. For the prices in such a small town with a small restaurant scene, I was expecting a lot more. However I will say that the service was very friendly. read more

Bringing southern food back to Orange, Spoon and Spindle is by far my favorite restaurant in Orange County! If you want southern, this is your spot. They've always got a few things with Japanese and New Orleans inspirations, and there really is something for everyone. I have NEVER been to a restaurant where every single dish is seasoned so well UNTIL I ate at Spoon and Spindle. You can really tell chef Zach Andrews takes pride in everything he does here! read more

What a great spot in Orange! Yes it's a drive but it's a drive that's worth it! Our food was delicious. Service was great. Full bar. Delicious Brussel sprouts. My Cobb salad was super fresh. Great for breakfast/brunch! The food stays hot in a nice iron pan. Delicious! We have been several times and enjoyed the cuisine every time.

I was in town on business and wanted to eat something hot, small, and local. I ordered the Cajun Vietnamese fried chicken sandwich. Been in Louisiana long enough to be a picky eater when I travel. The spices didn't quite strike me as Cajun per say HOWEVER it was flavorful. The meat was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It was as thick as two Chick Fil A sandwiches. A healthy portion. ALSO I ordered the fried pickles. Having had them in New Orleans; they got that perfect even down to some ranch on the side for dipping. It's a small layout, in a shared industrial space, with kind service read more

This restaurant is a hidden treasure. If you're not aware of it's location, you may have a bit of a struggle finding the front door. Look for the awning and follow the walkway to the second floor of the building. Glad we found a place for brunch. The host and servers are very attentive and friendly. The brick building warehouse-like atmosphere was very appropriate for the location The food was very tasty. I had the avocado toast which was delish. Besides the avocado slices was an avocado sauce that added so much flavor to the sandwich. My husband isn't adventurous and chose the breakfast burrito. The server suggested adding the steak, onions and bell peppers. My husband opted for the onions and peppers only. He gave it a two thumbs up. We shared the monkey bread which came out warm dripping with syrup. Needless to say we left with full bellies. Next time we're in the area, we'll need to stop by again. read more

The trail of tears to find a decent restaurant in central VA continues. This place seemed promising. Great reviews, and was packed when we came. Menu looked awesome, with some Southern favourites and some unexpected items. We got the okonomiyaki and two biscuits (gravy and Benedict). Okonomiyaki was ok, but had way too much sweet sauce and mayo on it completely destroying the taste - if you want to know what a real okonomiyaki taste like visit Japantown in San Francisco. Biscuits were old and gravy tasteless. Another disappointment. read more

This place is awesome. My wife ordered the fried green tomatoes. On the first go around and they were magnificent. She then ordered the avocado toast. She said it was the best she has ever had. We drove over from east of Mineral to have breakfast here at the Spoon and Spindle to see what the great reviews were all about! Carin, our server was wonderful! She was helpful, fun and so informative. We really enjoyed her sweet personality! My Hubby had Kent's Big Breakfast, which he devoured. The biscuits were ginormous and sooo good. He loved his beignets - soft, warm, and fresh out of the kitchen! I had the Farmers Frittata. A great gluten free option and very filling! Also added an order of bacon and a fresh bowl of fruit. Honestly my favorite hidden gem of a restaurant, if I could give you 10 stars I would. I've been here at least 10-15 times and tried something different every time, with the same reaction of how delicious and tasteful the food is. The service is fantastic and typically there is no wait, the selfish person in me wants to keep this a low-key spot but it's too good to not spread the word! read more
