This is basically a diner that hasn't changed since the 80s. At least that's how the aesthetic of the place seemed. I had no idea how long they've been open but they know if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The lady that waited on us was extremely nice, charming, and surprisingly witty. As for the food, it was perfect. Nothing fancy and not trying to be something it's not. Plain classic food that just good for the soul. Prices are fair and location is awesome. First time stopping by this gem on the corner. As has been written in publications such as the Washington Post or the Virginia Tourism guide, this diner transports you back to the 1950's in its charm and style. For a Wednesday at lunch, it was pretty busy only having two available booths but ample barstool seating. After looking through the menu, I settled on the Tuna Melt with a side of onion rings. The rye bread was grilled perfectly and tasted great with the American cheese and tuna. The onion rings were great too with the almost soup like bowl of honey mustard haha. Also ordered in our party was French toast made with Texas toast and a BLT with Macaroni salad. Both agreed that their meals were delicious. I finished off my meal with a chocolate milk shake to go. It was delicious! While prices have increased since someone last posted menu photos, it was still reasonable and worth it. The three of us had full meals and I a dessert for only $40 which is great considering how things are presently. Overall, Frost is a great spot to grab lunch before walking around historic Culpeper. I visited the Frost Cafe for the first time last week for breakfast. Not a lot of parking - so had to circle the block to find a place to park. Upon entering - you have two seating choices: Sitting at the counter - or a booth. No stand-alone tables. I opted to sit at the counter. I ordered up some Blueberry pancakes, plus Corned beef hash (extra crispy), two eggs (over easy) and a side of bacon, plus coffee. As always - upon seeing Corned beef hash on a menu - I inquired if it were scratch-made. The answer from the line cook was no. She then told me that at some point in the distant past - they offered scratch-made Corned beef hash - but no one ever ordered it. My guess is that is because it wasn't very good - because if you execute a scratch made Corned beef hash well - people will beat your door down to get to it... Everything was your standard diner-grade, greasy spoon deliciousness. The pancakes were tasty, the eggs were cooked properly, the corned beef hash was nice and crispy (and plentiful), and the bacon was of course tasty! This is a popular restaurant because its cheap and has a 50s aesthetic, but its gone downhill in the past couple of years. They used to serve fries with their food, but now its just ruffles potato chips they pour on your plate. If you want to sub for something else they'll charge you convenience fees without telling you. Me and my boyfriend went and got the same thing we always did. A burger, a tuna melt, subbed chips for fries and two sodas. Typically this was $20ish before tip during dinnertime. This time it was over $30. I was shocked and asked to see a receipt, and the waitress brought out an "itemized" receipt written entirely in shorthand. It was indecipherable besides a convenience fee of $5 on top of the upcharge for fries. Its not as if we are stiffers. We didn't ask for anything extra besides subbing chips for fries, and we always tip 20% in cash. We had never been charged like this before, and probably wouldn't have subbed if we were informed of this new "convenience" fee. We had eaten there 8+ times before and this has never happened despite subbing fries. The staff is not very friendly either. If you aren't elderly or a regular local they aren't going to be very kind. Everything typically has a long wait, even when not busy. If you're disabled good luck, there is nowhere to sit while waiting for a table. read more

Frost Cave offers the ambiance of a small town diner, a touch of nostalgia. There were 7 in our group and we ordered everything from omelets, burgers, to sandwiches. The omelets were typical diner quality. I went with the grilled cheese, which was just ok; the cheese was not melted and the bread was not crispy. I think the specialty here is breakfast, as is the case with most diners. Since I already had an omelet for breakfast, I wasn't in the breakfast mood. I love this little diner. It's exactly what you'd expect. Cheap food that's pretty good! I ordered a fried bologna sandwich with French fries. Their French fries are SO GOOD! Nice and crispy. The fried bologna sandwich hit the spot. Their coleslaw is very creamy and I really enjoyed it! If you order a Cheeseburger, they don't ask you how you would like it cooked, so it'll normally come out well done (and if that's how you'd order it, then it's perfect). All in all, a nice little stop if you live in and around Culpeper. read more

I don't know if it was because I had been craving a legitimate diner breakfast or if this place is just so freakn good. Grabbed seats at the counter and got to watch our food being made. Melted butter on the griddle and heading the sizzling just made me swoon. The chicken fried steak was cooked to perfection. Potatoes weren't the best I've had but they were still delicious. Eggs were done the way I like them. My friend also ordered the half order of biscuits and gravy. So worth the price! We also got French toast and I would definitely go back for some as well. This is exactly what we look for when visiting small towns. It seems this restaurant has been a staple for a very long time. No stripping down the history to reinvent something that works. It is comfortable, welcoming, and feels familiar although we've never been there before. We ordered basic breakfasts with eggs over easy, potatoes with onions. Initially, I was concerned as I was unsure if I was to be seated or grab a booth. After a few minutes a waitress cam left over and ushered us to a booth. Fine. We ordered our food, then waited. And waited. And waited. And then waited some more. Over 40 minutes of waiting. Had I known it would taken so long, I would've gone elsewhere. The food finally came. Pretty good. Biscuits were fluffy and warm, hashbrowns with onion were good. So..that veggie omlette with cheese... the cheese tasted like Velveeta slices. Eww. Not good. Also, we got the waitress that flipped off some other patrons. Yes, she still works there. I was afraid to remind her about my coffee that she didn't bring because I didn't want to have an altercation if she flipped me off. She was actually apologetic about it, and nice the entire time. Steak and eggs with biscuits and gravy and I added a pancake It was all quite delicious except I was really sad that two of our steaks were literally raw in the middle when asked for medium. I didn't expect much but figured it would be an average diner. Having gone past this place for years we decided to try it as we wanted to go some place new to us. Well we were disappointed even with low expectations. The food was not very good. basically bland food that tasted like it was made by people who didn't care. The waitress wasn't very good. She seemed more interested in yucking it up with regulars than checking on us. Then spent more time putting straws on tables. So I'd say avoid this place. it really wasn't worth the cost. Ok y'all I'm not easily impressed when it comes to diner food but OH MY GOSH this place is the cutest they have such a cute vibe with a huge board that says daily specials and old timey arcade games ! We had the pleasure of getting the waitress Bobbie (I hope that's how she spells her name) if your fortunate enough to get her you'll know she gives the best service ever!!! She was so kind , striking up a conversation with us after realizing we were out of Towners. She said she loves her job and says everything is made in house!! AND THE FOOD!!! Y'all I'm vegetarian and my boyfriend eats normal so I was scared they wouldn't have anything for me but they did!! I got breakfast for dinner (Wich was amazing that they had that) and even though I just got some eggs and a bagel and applesauce it was the best I ever had!!!!! You could really tell it was made with love the bread pudding that we split for dessert was amazing as well.
