My absolute favorite restaurant in Culpeper. It was one of the first my husband and I went to when we moved here, about 8 years ago, and at one point we were visiting weekly (sometimes twice a week). The specials, drink menu, and quality of the food has always brought us back. We also love the ambiance of the space and service. Never had a bad meal. When the chef changed, some of our favorite options went away but were replaced by even better, new items. One of my favorites is the chicken Ariana: fried chicken topped with spinach and melted cheese over fresh gnocchi and covered in a vodka sauce. SO good! We were very sad to see that the restaurant is currently shut down but were happy to hear the chef is staying and it's going to reopen to hopefully be even better (if possible) and we also hope some of our favorite dishes remain. read more

I keep giving this place chances because I feel like it has so much potential but they keep disappointing me. Today we were celebrating mother's Day with my mom and she ordered the drunken French toast which was $8 and you could add strawberries or blueberries for $3. She was not asked if she wanted fruit added nor did she request it. It was brought out with strawberries. At the end of the meal we were charged $14 for this item. They didn't have wheat bread which I thought was strange in a fine dining establishment. "Chefs" stood in the kitchen when they were not busy with their arms crossed just talking, very unprofessional. My biscuits and gravy were not hot, biscuit was over baked. Music was loud and in a restaurant decorated in 1920s style inappropriate. I found the whole experience to be lacking. read more

We are so excited that this amazing restaurant opened so close to home. Culpeper is no stranger to great dining establishments, but this restaurant is by far our favorite! The atmosphere is fun and classic with a great 20's theme. You can come here dressed up for a special occasion or dressed down for dinner with friends - either way you fit in! The service is wonderful. The wait staff is very attentive and polite. The drink menu is fun with a lot of unique drinks, but they also have beer/wine for the less adventurous. ;) The food is AMAZING. On our first visit there my husband and I went with friends and shared the calamari and wagu beef sliders for appetizers. Both dishes had great flavor and there was enough to share with our table of 4. For dinner we both had the filet mignon special. Again, great flavor! We left stuffed and very excited for our next visit. My husband surprised me for my birthday and took me here. We had a special four-course, wine-paired meal put together by Garth, the amazing Executive Chef at Flavor on Main. We chose smaller portions so we could thoroughly enjoy every bite and to say we "enjoyed" it would be an understatement. We had a dumpling-style appetizer, bisque, mussels with hand-made pasta, and cheesecake with raspberry sauce for dessert. Each course was paired with a different wine, which I loved and had never experienced before. The food was absolutely, out of this world, AMAZING. Garth is an incredibly talented chef and Culpeper is lucky to have him! Our overall experiences have exceeded our expectations by far and I recommend Flavor on Main to everyone. Four of us ate here on July 30. This was our nice dinner before the Culpepper Olympic triathlon which took place today. We got there at 6 PM and had outstanding service! Great menu, and all those cocktails. I so wanted one but I don't drink any alcohol about 2 weeks before a race. Believe me, I make up for it after... First of all, the warm bread and butter... I was like a ravenous animal! They were kind enough to give us a refill. Roasted red bell pepper soup with crab for me. I chose a salad & added grilled shrimp. Fabulous-goat cheese, walnuts, homemade dressing. My friends had this Nutella dessert that I sooo wanted. Tasted my friend's eggplant app which is really worth ordering. Place was filled by the time we left. Nice outdoor seating too. Remember to tip well. Everybody's working so hard. read more

I never would've stumbled upon this restaurant if my date didn't recommend it. We were looking for a halfway point to meet and he found this place. Since we were meeting on a Sunday afternoon, we were going to have the Brunch experience. I looked on the restaurant's website and everything on the brunch menu sounded amazing so I was very excited to check this place out. I've never been to this area of Culpeper so it was quite a surprise to see how cute the small street was with all its different shops, restaurants, and other businesses. Most of the area is made up of street parking and since it was early Sunday afternoon, it wasn't difficult to find a spot close to the restaurant. We did have a reservation but since the restaurant wasn't busy, they were kind enough to seat me early and wait for my date to arrive. The server was a sweet girl who gave me water while I waited. Once my date and I were both settled at the table, we were given the specials of the day which I chose the blueberry waffle with a side of bacon, while my date went with the biscuits and gravy from regular menu. The waffle was delicious and it came with a very thick dollop of cream cheese spread which was a nice addition to the waffle. The biscuits and gravy looked good and since my date ate it all, I think it's safe to say that he liked the dish! He also ordered the cheesecake for dessert which was devoured in mere seconds (all him since the waffle was my sweetness for the day). The restaurant itself was really nice! I really liked the setup with a bit of that old diner nostalgia with the decor. They also offer outdoor dining if requested. Another awesome thing of the establishment were the bathrooms! They are pretty darn nice...not like fancy nice, but enough nice to be mentioned so that people will dine here to see the bathrooms. lol It was a very great experience from beginning to end. Service was wonderful, our server was nice, and it looked like the staff worked well together. If anyone is in the downtown area of Culpeper, I highly recommend to try this place out. Stopped in here on our way down to our B&B and had a nice dinner w/ good drinks. Pretty decent sized spot with plenty of tables and seating around the bar as well as high tops. Overall, service and food were good as was the atmosphere. Nothing to complain about. We had margarita and old fashioned (very good) and lobster bisque soup to start with. We also had the firecracker shrimp which were enormous and very tasty. Cherry cola braised short rib was pretty good and the wild boar bolognese was excellent. This was my first time in Culpepper and it's such a cute little town. I was only 10 minute walk to this restaurant where my friend had her wedding rehearsal dinner. There's the main section for the dining part but you can also rent out a private area for an event which was nice and intimate. The service was great and attentive. I had the coconut shrimp cocktail for appetizers and then the crab cake for my entree--both were very tasty and delish. If I'm ever in the area, I would come back again to try other items on the menu for sure! read more

My first time here and it did not disappoint, the food was simply amazing. I had the filet (medium) and it cooked to perfection. The service provided by Sam was impressive, she never let me drink go empty and had a strong memory of the drink menu without having to refer to it. Various whiskey (bourbon) selections as well. We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and have always had great food and wine. Now that Fabrizio Perinelli the executive Chef has taken over, the restaurant is now the BEST fine dining in Culpeper. I had the braised brisket, and my wife had the Fettuccine with Peking Duck Sausage. OMG we could not stop eating. Oh and the shrimp cocktail is genius. Made a reservation for this restaurant because of the positive reviews, however, my husband and I were not impressed. The waitress was unfriendly and not knowledgeable of the menu or specials. We asked about any specials and were told that drinks were $2 off before 7pm. So we ordered extra drinks and appetizers. We received the check and noticed they were not discounted, so we kindly asked her about this. She took the check back to run it again. She told us she mistaken told us the wrong specials and tried to manually take it off but didn't work. Mind you she did not ask the manager or anyone for help and did not even apologize. We left with a terrible taste in our mouth from the lack of friendly service and knowledgable staff. The food was good - husband enjoyed his ribeye steak and truffle fries. The gnocchi was delicious. Dinner at Flavor on Main was good. The staff were friendly and professional. I ordered the stuffed zucchini blossoms and the roasted Mahi Mahi. The blossoms were fried nicely. They sat on a pickled cauliflower and tomato vinaigrette. The Mahi Mahi was served with a artichoke risotto. The fish was cooked perfectly. However, the entire dish needed salt and the fish need some acid like a squeeze of lemon. For dessert I had the Chocolate Panna Cotta with strawberries and whipped cream, excellent! Wonderful food in a lovely atmosphere. I want thank our waitress Sam for the perfect service throughout. I had the crab cake appetizer followed by the short ribs. Hubby had the red pepper soup then the filet. Everything was so delicious. A few things need improvement for a five star review. The hostess was downright rude. Didn't say a word just picked up the menus, mumbled something. The cheese in the potatoes pave needed to be hotter and melted. The reservation it asked if it was a special occasion and I noted it was a birthday but it was never mentioned. I'm sorry we were too full for dessert because the selections sounded yummy. The dishes we ordered stood out except for what I thought would be the easiest one to prepare: the filet was well over-cooked. I had ordered medium rare and it came out medium well. It was still a very nice cut at 7-8 ounces and the plate preparation was nice, but the temperature was just wrong. Everything else was exceptional: scallop and shrimp appetizers, roasted red pepper soup and wedge salad, lasagna, and chocolate panna cotta for dessert. Big party but we sat in the hallway across the bathroom which was pretty interesting. We only tried the firecracker shrimp and fried green tomato caprese. The shrimp was lackluster in comparison of other "firecracker shrimps" but eatable and the green tomato was flavorful. Service was good but sitting in the hallway wasn't the best ambience. read more

We stopped in late on a Friday evening for dinner and decided to sit outside... They have a very nice patio to sit on along Main Street in Old Town Culpeper, only issues with sitting out here are: The very loud, annoying cars driving by "cruising" and being as loud as they can be. The more annoying issue is the customers from inside coming outside to smoke a cigarette and they do it right next to this seating area, so we have to smell it. (They shouldn't smoke ANYWHERE near this place!) We did receive really good service arriving, checking in and from out server at the table throughout! The restaurant is beautifully designed and the restrooms were nice and clean. The attention to detail in the design and deco was great, which lead us to feeling like this might be a place we'd enjoy dinning! Their wine list is pretty nice and affordable. Their menu looked amazing! There were four of us and we all found something we'd enjoy. Starting with their red pepper and crab soup was a great idea, as the flavors were fresh and bold - really nice! Second course of grilled romaine consisting of Cesar salad was a really nice choice, especially for those of us who paired it with lobster tail! Their Foie Gras was nicely presented and the overall impression was nice. Their "Southern Comfort" fried chicken (brined in pickle juice) was very unique, moist and amazing! The aspargus that came with it was perfectly prepared (to get the woody stuff off) and cooked and the mashed potatoes were nice.... only issue was the lack of enough gravy. But the taters and flavors of the chicken, as well as the moistness, were enough to make up for the lack of gravy. The only concern (aside from the inconsiderate smokers coming outside to smoke, yet still standing near the entrance, was that we got there around 8:40PM on a Friday evening and they were out of a few items that we were interested in (scallops, brussles, etc)... It's nice that they keep their food fresh and do small batches, but we weren't too late to arrive. Overall we really enjoyed our visit, the venue, the service and definitely our food... Seems like most restaurants these days, (I'll describe as post covid), are really hit and Miss and don't always compare to previous rave reviews. Where to begin? I noticed some little things, the smudges and haze on both sides of the glass separating the kitchen and dining room and the items including an open tin can on the shelf just inside the glass in the kitchen. While the bar was nice, the way the tables were arranged seemed awkward and overall the restaurant was dark for brunch on a Sunday at noon. We were seated and placed an order within a few minutes and our drinks were promptly served. And from then on the service slipped.... I'll circle back to that later. My biscuits and gravy arrived with a deliciously flavorful gravy. It was however lukewarm and there just wasn't enough of it, it ended up being dry. And that's all folks, two biscuits a scant cup of gravy, potatoes for $14 My friends chicken and waffles were simply, a piece of chicken atop a waffle, and went half-eaten, @ $16. No sign of our waitress after I scrapped as much gravy from over and around biscuit #1 to eat with biscuit #2. And the nice strong cup of coffee had been sitting empty for a while now. I was finally able to grab the attention of another server and asked for more coffee and gravy. Minutes passed. Then our waitress shows up to ask how everything is. Well.... The other waitress come over, frazzled, no coffee. I explained to both my desire for more coffee and gravy. It did arrive. My friend was just done. We never addressed the half eaten chicken and waffle. I don't know what more to say, I'm disappointed and out of pity I suppose, or foolishness I left a little less than 15% tip. I was about to leave a two star rating here; but, after reconsideration I'm reducing it to one star. The two brunch items, coffee and a peach belini came to $41.50 before tax and tip. Way over the top, for what we received. You really need to re-evaluate here. read more

Salmon on Arugula Salad Pit stop for a 6hr drive, not a salad person but definitely hands down on the Arugula salad with candied walnuts. Even my daughter's friend (teenager) was impressed. Salmon was under seasoned but still ok. Didn't have pics with the rest of dishes we ordered, but bf enjoyed his philly cheesesteak sandwich. Will definitely recommend! I don't even have the words, I adore this place. My husband and I are frequents here and have been for the last years (3 times a month... or week haha). We love the specials, appetizers, and specials like half off bottle of wine, happy hour from 3 to 5, Valentine's Day 4 course meal. We do it all. Drinks are always good. Service is prompt. We love the atmosphere. Dishes I can think of that our excellent choices are: House salad, Potato Leek Soup (special), Red Pepper Soup (with crab meat), Calamari, Mussels & Frites (my favorite), Duck Wontons (special that was amazing), Sliders, Crab Dip, Wings, Nachos & Salsa (special on Tuesdays), Wagyu Beef Raviolis (special), Mushroom Fettuccine (lunch only), Southern Comfort, Cast Iron Pork Loin, Churros (Tuesday special), and the Molten Lava Cake. After having such a wonderful experience at Lunch, my wife and I decided to try dinner at Flavor on Main. Wow! the Filet Mignon was amazing! Cooked to perfection. My wife had the Crab Cakes and again, blown away! Big chunks of crab with no fillers! The ambiance was even nicer by candle light. Their service is unmatched anywhere in Culpeper. If there is one complaint (and I use the word lightly) the bread was just a bit salty. But I assure you it did not take a away from my evening one bit. The Dr. says I should cut out bread anyway! read more
