Tarte* de Santiago - I ate a lot of it lol

My sister and I had a great time visiting The Exchange Cafe. We tried to find somewhere to eat when we got to the area and they did not disappoint! Upon entering, you order at the register and sit down to eat. They also have coffee options at the front if you're just stopping in for some caffeine. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time but that did not deter the quality or service. We were given instructions on what they offered and told we could sit while we looked at the menus. It was a bit warm but there were plenty of fans to help with it. I ordered the fireman's 1/4 chicken with a side salad with the lemon tahini dressing. My sister ordered the steak with the chimichurri and a salad with basalmic. Both were so good! We were talking about coming back again already. We both got dessert to go. I got the Tarte de Santiago and my sister got the tirimisu. I already have a recipe pulled up to make the Spanish dessert because it was amazing. 10/10, if you come to the Shenandoah area, stop by The Exchange cafe. You will not regret it!

    Ham sandwich on biscuits

I want to bring this cafe home with me! There was so much on the menu that I wanted to try. We ended up deciding ( after a very lengthy debate) on the bone broth chicken soup and 2 sandwich's to share. I ordered the ham on a biscuit and my fiancée ordered the fried chicken sandwich. The soup was served with homemade focaccia bread and everything was top notch fresh, seemed locally sourced and clean. The ham sandwich was very good and served with a simple but extremely fresh salad and good dressing. But his chicken sandwich was the star of the show! Holy moly was that some good fried chicken! It was a thigh, which made it better in my opinion, but also the breading and how ever it was fried made it really incredible! I would make a special trip to go back to this cafe! They also made me a spectacular DECAF latte!

We stopped in for dessert and coffee after seeing the reviews online. The cafe is quaint with plenty of seating. The coffee was delicious and we tried three desserts - chocolate cake, coffee cake and derby pie. Each one was delicious. The food we saw coming out looked great so we will definitely come back! The staff were all very nice and attentive.

This is my second visit. We purposefully drove an hour and 40min for the delicious bourbon pound cake and sautéed kale. The service is always great and the ambiance is quaint and welcoming. Top favorite of weekend things to do!!

I love everything about this place! I love the casual and cozy but sophisticated vibe, and the food is incredible every time. The breakfast sandwiches are the best ever, with tons of egg, on a freshly made biscuit. I have never had anything that wasn't absolutely delicious. Super friendly staff, and the owner himself is often on site, and comes by the table to make sure customers are happy. Could not recommend this place more!!

We parked in the lot across the street although there is 2 hour street parking. Our server was friendly but it was a little disappointing that one of the drinks we wanted couldn't be ordered because it wasn't available (not sure why because it was just an old fashioned and we could clearly see the whiskey displayed behind the bar) so we ordered a different drink and the exotic mushroom pasta entree I ordered had a choice of being served with gnocchi or pappardelle pasta (which I preferred but again, it wasn't available so I went with the gnocchi). One of my friends got the beef sliders with mashed potatoes ($3 upcharge!!!) (they wanted the beef stroganoff but the chef wasn't able to make it without mushrooms) and my other friend the Brazilian beef stroganoff. The food was delicious. The ambiance was typical of a tavern with the TVs broadcasting the Olympics and the tall ceilings caused it to be a little noisy but not unbearable. We were too full for dessert but the carrot cake had been recommended so we ordered a piece to go (the biggest slice of cake I've ever seen!) along with a slice of their lemoncello cake. Good experience, I would've given them 5 stars had they not been out of so many things and unable to accommodate my friend's wish for no mushrooms

It had been awhile since I had been here but I remember the food being better than what it was this time. I got fish and chips and it was good but nothing about it was wow. Family members got potato skins and wings that looked good but I didn't try (I'm dairy free so most of the apps were dairy). The cocktail menu was weird to understand; had happy hour listed but it was confusing what was happy hour, what was seasonal and what was "normal" and when we asked, the response made us more confused/like we were stupid.

After that she was pretty absent. my beef dip was dry and tough, though the onions and mushrooms were plentiful. My wife's liver and oinion was in a sea of thin juice , not a gravy. the butter portions (for the baked potato) were dropped into the juice, creating a mess to handle. my iced tea sat empty for most of the meal, she never came back. Overall, the claim of the owner's long and exceptional culinary experience was not evident here. He either lost his passion or is not actually here, ever. Basicly an overpriced Diner. Maddingly the waitress held onto the credit card machine and stared at the screen while I tried to pay. Is that intimidation for a higher tip, since the machine starts the suggested options at 20%? one and done, other options nearby.
