Nice tiny little market with a few outdoor tables . Nice selection on pre-made sandwiches and some baked goods. Ordered and took it to Jefferson Winery that is just down the road a few hundred yards. The Chicken salad was very good on fresh baked bread. There are some gluten free crackers too. read more

We stopped on the way to Monticello at suggestion of a local friend. It happened to be Saturday when they have crepes and mimosas (no iced coffee drinks FYI but other coffee drinks). The crepes were so amazing. Fromage blanc and herb was our favorite and the smoked ham crepe was so flavorful. We also had the baguette hot ham and cheese--great baguette bread, delicious! So glad we stopped! They have grab and go sandwiches and salads, chips and drinks too, and cute shop packed with kitchen things and other home and gift items. A great find. read more

Back again ! Greeted by two wonderful happy women ! Last time we were rushed out of the place by two men who wanted to close the shop an half an hour early because they had no desire to be there ! I would imagine it was the two women husbands! Hence , the rush noted in my last post! The mood was very different! Food every where! Just treats : like overloaded cookies ; two for $8. We showed up for breakfast on a Sunday morning after this place was recommended to us by numerous people. The door was open and a customer was checking out with her purchases. We asked for a breakfast menu and were told that they didn't start serving brunch until 10am. We decided to get a coffee and sit at an outdoor table until brunch began but when we sat down, one of the employees basically chased us away saying the table was reserved for brunch patrons- which we were, but they never asked. Never been treated so rudely. Will not return. Words of advice: Read a book on Customer Service! read more

Spotted this cuuuuute little market on the way to John Monroe's Highland. We had to stop on the way back - because, CUTE. The staff was friendly, helpful, and COVID safe. This is a cute little market just down the road from Monticello. They have a small selection of espresso beverages available (and non-dairy milk options) as well as pre-made sandwiches and baked goods. This market also showcases a collection of Virginian housewares and goods, wine, pasta, honey and jam, to name a few things. Staff is courteous and quick. Sandwiches and baked goods are first come, first serve it seems. There are several outside tables, no seating inside. We enjoyed our sandwiches and the coffee was good. We also had the Russian tea cakes and they were honestly some of the best tea cakes I've ever had. Great flavor and not bone dry. read more

Possibly the Best Muffin I've Ever Had Before I begin, I'm going to update this review later once I have had more food from this cute location. Basically, everything you eat is either made in-house or is locally-sourced. Nestled between several different vineyards, this is the perfect location to pick up food or snacks to have while you're drinking wine. The muffin I had was made entirely in house, and honestly, was probably one of the best muffins I've ever had period. I'm not even a huge muffin person, but that muffin and the blueberries baked into it were fresh and WARM. One of the workers even brought out a sample of a gluten-free chocolate muffin for me to try before I even bought the blueberry muffin. Holy cow! I was blown away. I heard the owner of this location is a trained baker, and this place does cupcakes and plenty of other goodies. I will be returning to add to this review as I try more of what she has to offer. read more

Not really GF friendly, so be aware. Personnel was not that warm when we asked, they probably are not aware that in the US the flour has potassium bromate which is forbidden in Europe. Be careful what you eat read more

Stopped here to pick up sandwiches to picnic at Jefferson Vineyards. It wasn't particularly busy but they seemed like they were just opening up (it was around 11am). Took a few minutes for him to take our order but it took unusually long to get two sandwiches. It was bad cuz we're talking cold and very basic sandwiches to put together. It took about a half hour making us late for our reservation at nearby Jefferson Vineyards. This place is a hidden treasure in plain sight! We wanted to find some local eats for mothers day (if you live in Fluvanna, you know this can be challenging unless you want to go to zion crossroads or Charlottesville proper) They have the most delicious cupcakes, pastries AND SANDWICHES! Their foods are made with care, and you can taste the difference. We got roast beef with plum preserves and corned beef sandwiches & everyone was happy with them. Also, the quinoa salad was a great side. We had a cinnamon filled pastry, qnd a variety of cupcakes- just delightful! Oh and they have a selection of artisanal/local goods which is cool We WILL be coming back- next time we'll try some coffee! read more

Wow. We are blown away. I am not one to write reviews but this was so exceptional we just have to support their success! We stopped on a whim on our way home from wineries. We ordered a pork sandwich and an eggplant sandwich. The women (owner?) also sold us on their "everything cookies" which I was a tad skeptical of (don't really need a cookie)... but boy do you need this one. My husband was blown away by the pork sandwich and I savored every bite (expect for the one I graciously gave to my husband) of the eggplant. He started on the cookie before I did and he's reaction was "you are going to LOVE this!" And wow. I love it. Can't get enough of it. I am super glad it's as big as it is (that's what she said (that is an addition from the husband))! What a great spot. Friendly staff and amazing food. Next time we will pick up to take to the wineries for the day. Today it was the perfect close to a lovely day! read more

Stopped here after a visit to the winery up the road. We saw a sign that said PULLED PORK and obviously, yes. Sadly, since it was late afternoon, they had just sold out of pulled pork... BUT that led us to some delicious other options! We really enjoyed the chicken salad (one on bread, one over greens,) eggplant sandwich, and ham and brie sandwich! They make a delicious americano, too. The ambiance of their outdoor seating was fantastic and they were very friendly and accommodating. Definitely stop here and try it out. read more

I stopped in after walking the trails at Highland, and ordered a grilled cheese and tomato soup combo. Delicious! Delicious delicious delicious. Simeon Market has a co-vid safety protocol in place. The menu is posted on the door, and the food is ordered and brought to customers outside for safety. I didn't partake, but I saw great looking cookies and an entire menu devoted to cupcakes. Full coffee bar and outdoor seating at this pretty country setting near Monticello. I'll definitely be back. read more

Fantastic little shop. Love the way they repurposed this vintage gas station (I think that's what it was at least!) Coffee is top notch and their sandwiches are phenomenal. I had the pulled pork which was had a nice little vinegar kick to the bbq sauce. Added a scoop of cole slaw on top - perfecto. Oh yeah and the strawberry scone...whoa...so good. Check out this joint, grab some food to bring to local wineries. Enjoy! read more

So glad we stopped by! Yummy food and beautiful location. Corned beef with sauerkraut sandwich met my hubby's approval (a hard task) and he proclaimed it "delicious." My egg and pesto on a muffin was also good. Delicious cupcakes, cookies, and a lovely view. This is not fast food, it's made to order, so sit back and enjoy the view while you wait. Stopped for lunch after James Monroe's Highland on the way to Gordonsville. Unassuming but cute place at a little intersection - it's a classic gas station/country store building. My wife tried the coffee, which was excellent, and we had sandwiches as well. The sandwiches are fairly simple and familiar, and done very well. They average about $10, and came with very good baguettes and generous meats/fillings. Great prices and very high quality ingredients. There's limited parking and a few outdoor tables. If you're heading to a winery that allows outside food, it would be great food to bring along. Highly recommend! read more

The baristas were nice and three of them gave me their input on which single origin I should choose for my pour-over. POUR-OVER - MKT Price +6.50 for Mohammed Aba Nura - Ethiopia (tasting notes: Strawberry, white chocolate, hazelnut) I wanted the craziest tasting option they had, and they recommended this one since it's pretty popular and well-liked among customers. However, one of the barista said he didn't really like it himself. I figured I should still try it. The sips I had while it was still warm was pretty juicy and sweet, but I really didn't like the notes once it cooled down (about 20 minutes later), which tasted sour and off-putting. I should have listened to that one barista and went with a different single origin option. Overall, good roaster -- just unfortunate that I tried something that wasn't for me. The baristas seem knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. I would love to come back next time and try another single origin offering.

And entrepreneur 1 said to entrepreneur 2 "It'll only work if we have a great logo." 2 said "Bet." I mean, they probably have their own version but that's how I picture it in my head. And boom, Maresca's was born. Now, we have been a few times and tried multiple items before writing this. Two iced lattes (hazelnut and vanilla), a vanilla cappuccino, a cortado, a black coffee, and a scone. The cortado was bangin. The cappuccino was just perfectly bold yet milky. The other flavored drinks have a delightful flavor that is just enough there but not so much that you loose sight of a tasty espresso. The scone was homemade deliciousness and the black coffee was good. Personally, I like mine a bit stronger but it was still a good cup of coffee. I also love getting text updates about their location. We even used it this weekend to learn about a festival nearby that we didn't know about until they said they were there. Lastly, the happiness these two seem to have every time we go is the greatest part of the experience. Their smiles when they greet you are 100% in earnest and their logo is itself a work of art. I loved them both equally, but if I really had to choose one over the other, then I would say the sweet corn + cheese was my favorite because I love anything corn. They were the perfect temperature to bite into, we didn't have any trying to ooze out everywhere, and they were so flavorful! I also grabbed us each a Dulce de leche pastry and I thought it was the perfect balance for being a treat while not being overly sweet. My husband said he thought it was very sweet, but I thought that the pastry part was not sweet at all, so the dulce de leche filling in the middle balanced it out nicely. I also ordered a matcha latte and got a caramel latte for my husband. The 2 men on staff were very friendly and the patio was fairly busy when we stopped in. We opted to eat in the car on our way to the park so we could get to our hike faster, but I would love to stop here again and sit outside in the sun should we ever be back in Charlottesville.
