My husband and I stopped in here for our first bakery visit of our trip during our stay in Charlottesville a few weeks ago. I saw online that they did empanadas and coffee (what could be better?) and we knew we had to visit. We live in Indianapolis and visit Che Chori often for empanadas, so we wanted to try Cumbre's breakfast options. I got the sweet corn + cheese, my husband got the ham + cheese, and we each got a breakfast bacon + eggs. I loved them both equally, but if I really had to choose one over the other, then I would say the sweet corn + cheese was my favorite because I love anything corn. They were the perfect temperature to bite into, we didn't have any trying to ooze out everywhere, and they were so flavorful! I also grabbed us each a Dulce de leche pastry and I thought it was the perfect balance for being a treat while not being overly sweet. My husband said he thought it was very sweet, but I thought that the pastry part was not sweet at all, so the dulce de leche filling in the middle balanced it out nicely. I also ordered a matcha latte and got a caramel latte for my husband. This was a nice little bakery which served empanadas and other sweets. We tried a Spinach Artichoke Empanada and a Custard Bun. Both were tasty, and since we ate there, it came with sparkling water and a little biscuit / cracker. Increíble!!! Just, WOW! Qué pena que no vivo más cerca. Okay, enough code-switching; this place is LEGIT and now in my top 3 coffee shops in Cville. Food: Having grown up around Argentinian friends, the baked goods looked and tasted as phenomenal as those the tía's and abuela's would serve with coffee. It brought me back to good times. On display, empanadas and pastries. A personal favorite of mine are the alfajores (warning / they're crumbly!) and the medialunas. They both are delicious with a coffee. Service: 100/100. I was lucky enough to walk in when one of the staff members were talking in Spanish, so I joined in and was treated like a long time friend. I don't doubt that anyone who walks through the door isn't treated the same way; a wonderful warm welcome. The presentation of the coffee and pastry when eating in is spectacularly impressive and very instagram friendly. I would be remiss to not mention the latte art on my cappuccino. Ambiance: Inside is small but cozy for an intimate coffee catch up session. Air conditioned, and comfortable. If you're not in a hurry, stay a while; the patio seating is very nice and a great place to catch some sun, or even sit under a huge parasol in the shade. Highly recommend this cozy spot. Everything I have had here has been so delicious. They serve their drinks with a lovely little glass of bubbly water. Their empanadas are amazing. Just found this bakery/cafe right off of 9th street and it's walking distance from my work!. Stopped in around noon for a light lunch and coffee. It's a tight space but even with about 7 other people in the shop it wasn't over crowded. There are tables outside as well which will be amazing when it's warmer. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. When you first walk in there is a sandwich display, empanada display and pasty display. Everything looked amazing! I ordered the ham and cheese empanada, pastry with dulce de leche and a small iced latte. The empanada was SO GOOD I wish I would've ordered another the inside was cheesy and warm with the perfect flaky crust. The pastry was buttery and not too sweet. The latte was top notch! Can't wait to come by and try more food items especially the different empanada fillings and sandwiches! Will be a regular customer here for sure! read more

If you all haven't been yet, you must go check out Cumbre near the downtown mall. They fuse Argentinian and Italian flavors and it is 100% amazing. To start, the service there was great, everyone was really friendly, and the overall atmosphere was homey. It is a little small but they worked with what they got and there's indoor and outdoor seating to choose from. As far as the food...oh...my...gosh I wish I had gotten more to go haha I had the best beef empanada and pastry to go along with my latte. The empanada was flavorful and flakey and the pastry was like a croissant with dulce de leche and powdered sugar on top. I didn't get the name of it though. They also included a little cookie on the side that was super good but, again, I didn't get the name. Everything was really good though so I feel like you can't go wrong. Just a bit outside of downtown, this freestanding space offers drinks and empanadas/pastries. I am not much of a coffee person, so I took a spinach and artichoke empanada and a dulce de leche pastry to go. Notably, the spinach and artichoke includes cheese, so not much for the dairy free crowd here. It was tasty though, and the dulce de leche offered just enough of a flavor contrast. The employees are genuinely friendly and courteous. They bring your food & drinks out on a pretty little wooden tray with a small complimentary glass of refreshing sparkling water. I have come here twice, and each time my companions have enjoyed the empanadas. We have tried the cut beef, the onions, and ham, and they were all good. The iced Matcha this last visit was kinda watery, and I had asked for light ice already, and it wasn't a really hot day, so I don't think it was the melted ice diluting it... maybe this was just a one-off... Terrible espresso, good empanadas, and great space. Dropped in to check it out two months ago and tried again last week. Tossed the espresso both times (sour, burnt flavor), tried two of the empanadas and one dessert (good), and went over to Lone Light to get coffee instead. I appreciate the intentional aesthetic of the space, but with such great coffee and baked goods in Charlottesville, there's no reason to come back for bad coffee unless they hire some kick ass baristas. Wow! This little shop might become a new favorite. Very small inside with only a few tables-probably not a spot to sit with a computer but a great spot for a quick coffee with a friend, especially in warmer months when you can sit at one of their outside tables. The menu has a quite a few sandwiches, empanadas, and pastries for you to choose from. I tried the ham & cheese empanada which was fantastic and full of flavor. My husband and I just came here because I saw someone post on social media. It is literally the epitome of cute as a button. They have really maximized the space super well and it feels very relaxing and homey, super clean, and inviting. The coffee is delectable. We came at breakfast time and I didnt want an empanada at first but then as we sat drinking espresso and cappuccino, I was like why not. OMG onion and cheese empanada for breakfast was amazing. I am not familiar with the differences in empanada dough between countries but this was unlike any other empanada dough ive had. I ordered a catering order for about 40 people and had amazing service from the Cumbre bakery team. They responded to my emails with extreme speed and even delivered the food TO THE DOOR of a UVA building - the campus is really difficult to navigate and park in, so I was amazed! They called me 2 hours before delivery to ask if I'd also like plates and serving utensils with my order, which they provided for no additional cost. I'll definitely be catering from here again.
