My husband and I were in Charlottesville a few weeks ago on vacation and stopped in here for a coffee + a treat before going on a walk at a nearby park with the dogs. I ended up getting each of the dogs one of their cinnamon sugar donuts (they were on vacation, too!) and they were so moist and decadent. Perfect late-morning treat that all 4 of us loved. I also especially loved being able to get a 24oz latte! It lasted me our whole walk on the nature trail at Penn Park. The staff were SO friendly, had a lot of regulars coming and going while I was there, and had signs up all over about being a safe space for all, which was beautiful. They have a cute, outdoor patio area in the front that I would love to come back and lounge at if we are ever in town again. read more

What a coffee connoisseurs heaven! This petite coffee shop and bakery is a local favorite and I'm happy to say, I felt all the love! Be sure to park in their designated lot behind them. You are instantly greeted as you walk in and smell the coffee and pastries aroma! They have Apple Pay and all the fixings for your coffee the way you like it. You can tell they all love to work for this local gem and it is rated in the coffee and pastries. They know almost everyone's name who walks in the door. How sweet!! I was able to snag their last bacon, egg and cheese biscuit which was so good! Forgot to get a pic of it since I ate it so fast. You are a lucky one if you're able to grab a seat at the coffee bar and catch up with the locals while enjoying some local coffee and treats! read more

Edit: The owner seems to think that a lecture on what comprises a latte is a response to having made two of the worst lattes I've had in Charlottesville. A bad latte is, you guessed it, a bad latte. You know where you never get a bad latte in town? Mudhouse and Grit. If you're reading this, head to either of those spots for a better experience. -- Might have been the specific barista, but the latte was very bad. My wife's latte was also awful. The proportions were off. Went back in to try the espresso from a different barista. Not bad. Basic second-wave coffee fare. Much better than the first round of drinks. I could see the appeal if you're nearby, but if you're looking for a solid espresso-based drink, there are better, more dialed-in spots. read more

Cozy local coffee place off of Fontane and the end of JPA. It's a small coffee bar with seating along the counter and a petite outdoor patio. There is a small parking lot in the front so on busy days, drive around back to find a space. So far, I've tried the iced mocha and really liked the thick mocha flavor mixed with the espresso. It blends nicely when the ice begins to melt so it isn't too strong of either flavor. The pastry selection is something I appreciate because from time to time they'll offer amazing croissants stuffed with ham and Gruyere, or spinach and feta. Delicious. read more

Just updating to say how happy I (still) am to have this coffee shop in our neighborhood. We're moving soon, however, and I will be sad to part with the short walk to this coffee stop. I will still definitely be back though, because it's worth it. It's the coffee shop out of my life as a sitcom dreams: calm, inviting atmosphere; baristas who will chat if you want, or not if you don't; other neighborhood regulars who are open to friendly conversation; and a cosy-sized space! Not enough people talk it up, so I'm here to spread the love. read more

I'm a big fan of Atlas. It's been nice to see a coffee shop with a neighborhood feel and a clientele of regulars grow up in Fry's Spring. They offer warm service and excellent coffee, and the pastries are also delicious. The bacon-egg-caramelized-onion tart and the ham-and-cheese croissant are both winners. Perfect stop off the interstate. I parked next door behind the deli. It's surprisingly hard to find good coffee in an efficient manner driving through Charlottesville off I-64. No longer. Quick route right off the exit. Atlas will be my new go to in the area. If you are looking to stop off 64 and get right back on this your best option by far. I promise I've tried them all. Small shop but lots of outdoor seating. Real good coffee. Plenty of options. Tried a couple breakfast tacos that were yummy...small but inexpensive. Perfect snack. Plenty of homemade pastry type stuff if that's your thing. Very welcoming staff. Knew the customers before and after me. Very clean. Random dive-type location which is cool. Established in 2011.

Two families first had the idea to open a coffee bar together while on a camping trip. Everything was very chic and created a very charming afternoon. I loved all the little details like the cute glassware for drinks and individual glass teapots. Service: Everyone is so warm and welcoming here! Immediately felt like home and also attended to in every detail. Food and drink: Last but not least the food and drink here are so standout!! I'm a big tea lover and can spot high quality teas, and ethos selection does not disappoint. I had the hibiscus tea and mmm so good, and so good for you. Finally, the star of the show, the burger!! Yum! Truly best burger ever. It was so gourmet, with crispy edges, amazing sauce and a real juice to it. This place is the perfect place for a date or girls catch up over a delicious burger + tea/ wine! Can't wait to come back to try more things on the menu and 10/10 recommend the burger paired with a drink! Mm!

I also loved the grilled cheese with a side of beans. I can't remember what they were, but dang they were tasty. It all went down well with a glass of local sparkling wine. I'd happily return.

The inside of this small shop has a good amount of seating indoors and a few tables outdoors. The shop was busy but the lines moved very quickly and I was greeted by the very friendly staff member. I ordered the iced strawberry matcha and an iced maple latte. The drinks came out fast and I love the round bottom cups. I knew the matcha would be solid but the latte was my favorite! It was everything I want in a latte, not too sweet and creamy. This will be my go to coffee stop any time I'm in Charlottesville or passing by!

The baristas are excellent at making coffee, friendly, and the seasonal drinks are creative. They have a cardamom syrup that's delicious in lattes. As usual, I'm looking for the best coffee roaster to go to, and Lone Light Coffee was on the top of my list in this area. The coffee shop is on the smaller side, but it was warm and comfortable. The baristas were nice and three of them gave me their input on which single origin I should choose for my pour-over. POUR-OVER - MKT Price +6.50 for Mohammed Aba Nura - Ethiopia (tasting notes: Strawberry, white chocolate, hazelnut) I wanted the craziest tasting option they had, and they recommended this one since it's pretty popular and well-liked among customers. However, one of the barista said he didn't really like it himself. I figured I should still try it. The sips I had while it was still warm was pretty juicy and sweet, but I really didn't like the notes once it cooled down (about 20 minutes later), which tasted sour and off-putting. I should have listened to that one barista and went with a different single origin option. Overall, good roaster -- just unfortunate that I tried something that wasn't for me. The baristas seem knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. I would love to come back next time and try another single origin offering.
