Fantastic coffee shop. Loved the cold brew, but the pastry was just okay. Not sure is the croissant was fresh or not. Another large and spacious coffee shop in Charlottesville. Option for seating at a table or couch. Totally a place I would spend the day at catching up on work. The downside is that they don't have a ton of parking.

DRINKS/AMBIANCE Shenandoah Joe's is a solid coffee shop with ample space to study/work or sit down to catch up with friends. The place isn't too loud, but there are usually casual conversations throughout the shop at any given time. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and was surprised to see the cost amount to $7+. It's definitely on the expensive side for a latte, but the espresso packed a punch and the drink wasn't too sweet. The shop definitely specializes more in brews and black coffees, so if you're looking for either, this place is perfect for it. FOOD Assorted pastries such as cookies and croissants are available for purchase. SERVICE The staff are friendly and helpful, and their camaraderie with each other is great to see. PARKING Several parking spots area available at the front and side of the store, but tend to fill up quickly.

Shenandoah Joe has ample space for studying, working, or catching up with friends. The high sunlit ceilings create an inviting atmosphere perfect for productivity or relaxation. As a micro-roastery, you can count on the grind being fresh. Along with my latte, I enjoyed a delicious blueberry scone from Quality Pies (5 stars). While the coffee is excellent, I would love to see them introduce house-made syrups, especially featuring seasonal flavors like violets or magnolia blossoms, or highlighting herbs that thrive in the Shenandoah Valley.

It isn't easy to find a coffee shop where they roast they're own coffee on the premises. At b Shenandoah Jie, they do just that. They serve excellent coffee that they've roasted, sell roasted beans, and will even sell unroasted beans. The vibe is excellent, it's crowded cause the coffee is so great. If you're in Charlottesville and enjoy excellent coffee, don't miss this place!

What a great coffee shop! The best part of the shop is that it is large and open and during this time that's a great thing for social distancing! They roast their own beans which is excellent! And they have attentive and knowledgeable baristas who are helpful in selecting your desired cup of coffee... They have a wide selection of beans as well as lattes and teas. Nothing is done half way and they are very intentional about the quality of their cup. The price is reasonable for a specialty shop and I can't wait to come back to try all their roasts! It's nice to be able to take all my inner "coffee snob" and connect it to a store that loves coffee as much as I do...

The best fresh, hot and delicious coffee I've ever had. I wish I lived closer because I could see this place as my daily go-to. Decent prices, large spacious interior, and kind baristas. The variety of coffees they offer is impressive, and they offer most dairy substitute milks as well. Highly recommend this place. Check out my pictures for the menu and prices!

Came here to work on some stuff and was pleased with my experience. I got the medium roast black coffee and it was fine, I'm not picky at all when it comes to coffee. It was very spacious and it seems to be a very popular spot, there were lots of people in and out. Plenty of places to sit, including couches and armchairs, which I like in a coffee shop. Will definitely be back!

Many different seating options, friendly staff, and good coffee. I've always loved it when you go to a place and they serve your coffee looking like mine did in the picture below. Shenandoah Joe was a very relaxing place to meet with someone and I will be sure to return to this place to do work or to go on dates again in the future.

Iced mocha/hot mocha with light fluffy muffins! Try their roasted coffee in a bag, too!

Great coffee shop - that's way more than a coffee shop. Friendly owner and staff will direct you to whatever your palate desires. The baked goods are creative and super tasty without being overly sugared. I had the Mocha - one iced and one hot. Beautifully dispensed (see picture) and tastes every bit as good. As others have said, if you want a parking spot - get there early. We were there on a Sunday by 8:45AM, parking pretty well filled by 9:30. But, if you like Joe, you'll love THIS Joe.

The best coffee shop that we visited while in Charlottesville. We tried a hot chai, pour over and slice of lemon poppy seed bread. It was all amazing. Shenandoah Joe is a must visit.

Shenandoah Joe Coffee Roasters is a great coffee shop in Rose Hill in Charlottesville, Virginia. It opens before 8am on a weekend and brews really good beans including decaf beans. Their latte was perfectly creamy and just needed a tab simple syrup for my sweet tooth. The space itself is massive with all types of seating from bar seating to couches to wood tables. They offer strong, free wifi making it a great place to get work done. If you love coffee and/or love beautiful spaces, come to Shenandoah Joe Coffee Roasters. It's one of the best in town!

Small latte

The ambiance inside is perfect for a calming and welcoming morning that allows you to settle before the 9-5. Most of us enjoy the somewhat somber background of the smiths and the sounds of coffee being made. The latte is very solid and prices aren't terrible, although not a fan of the 1.50 markup on oat milk. All in all, you'll enjoy the experience and hope to become a regular.

The coffee was good. Not a huge fan of the inside- couches are old and dirty and not a lot of tables to pick from. The staff is nice though.

On our way to our Airbnb, a friend and I stopped by Happ, which is located inside an industrial-style building that's incredibly spacious. There's plenty of seating, along with a dedicated area where beans are available for purchase. The barista was really friendly, and we ended up having an in-depth conversation about drink recommendations. When I settled on a cappuccino, he walked me through how each milk option paired with the espresso. I ultimately chose whole milk since it doesn't have an overpowering flavor like almond milk, which allowed the light-roast espresso (an optional upgrade) to really shine. I didn't fully enjoy the cappuccino during the first couple sips because the mouthfeel of the whole milk felt a bit too thick, which didn't pair well with the light roast. However, it became more harmonious as I continued drinking, and the highlight was definitely the bright sweetness of the espresso. I really appreciate a coffee shop that pulls a light-roast espresso well. The barista asked for my thoughts, which I shared, and he then pulled me a shot using their South Paw (house espresso blend) beans to try. I thoroughly enjoyed this light-medium espresso, which was bright and strong, without the unpleasant acidity or bitterness that often follows. I don't typically recommend ordering a straight espresso shot at most coffee shops, but Happ does it well. Overall, it was a great experience -- lovely coffee and friendly baristas who genuinely care about their craft. I left with one of their limited-release coffees (a Peruvian Geisha), which I'm looking forward to trying as a pour-over at home.

She loves them, I thought it was just alright. It was very noisy with all the people and someone was banging on the hinges of the front door. We had some important things to discuss and the noise was making it nearly impossible. I would like to try it again another time and get a coffee drink.

To paraphrase the Beatles, there's nothing I can say that can't be said, but man do I love, love, love this place. Excellent whole bean offerings, roasted to perfection by expert roasters. Delicious hot and iced coffee and espresso drinks that simply can't be replicated anywhere nearby--including, sadly, in my home town of Staunton (hey, Trager Brothers! There's a huge opportunity for expansion in the Queen City!). And top all that off with sublime, informed, and incredibly friendly front of house staff. Yeah, it's a little hard to find, but anything worth having is worth looking for. And in this age of googling and Apple mapping and whatnot, there's no excuse for not availing yourself to the BEST coffee in central Virginia. Y'all who might have read some of my other reviews will know: I usually have a minor nit to pick with even my five stars. Not so with the Brothers Trager, fam. Enter their shop and be greeted by the heavenly aroma of roasting coffee, the whir of a burr grinder, the quiet scream of a steaming wand, the genuine smile and friendly greeting of the barista. Now, you tell me: how could you possibly find a quibble worth the scribble?
