You have not met kinder people in all your life! Yes, I know I don't know you personally but trust me anyway. They make it a pleasure to be in their company and you WANT to come back. I've enjoyed everything I've had when I've visited including coffee, lattes, and smoothies. The price is comparable to many coffee shops but the portions seem more generous resulting in a better buy. They have cute gift baskets and gift ideas if you're looking for a way to be a blessing to someone you care about while supporting an awesome business with a beautiful purpose. The space is nice, bright and always clean. I'm looking forward to them opening another location someday as I am not working out as much as I should and don't get to the Y as much as I'd like. There are two bistros in C'ville that I make a point of visiting every time I'm in town. The first is Bodo's on Emmett Street. I've been a loyal patron for ~28 years. The second is Kindness Cafe + Play. I've been a loyal patron for ~4 days. I learned about KC+P about 2 weeks ago when I ran across pictures of employees posing with bottles of Mountain Culture Kombucha; I made a mental note to try KC+P ASAP. My first visit was 4 days ago. Unfortunately, I arrived near closing time (noon) so I had limited time to scope out and enjoy their fare. I requested a Blueberry Bar from Found.Market (basically Blueberry Cake), Grit Coffee, Water. I got briefly acquainted with the founder, Katie, and was impressed with her devotion and how it is expressed and executed at KC+P. I asked about Mountain Culture Kombucha, and was told they were temporarily out, but would be getting a shipment soon. Good enough for me. The Blueberry Bar was delish, and the Grit Coffee made an excellent pairing. On each dining table was a small sign advertising a Fritatta for $5. Mmmm. Next time. I told Katie I'd return Friday. I returned Friday. Arrived about 9am. Ordered the Fritatta, Coffee, and Mountain Culture Kombucha. I settled down at a largish table, booted my computer, and surfed, checking my upcoming appointment at UVA Medical Center. A server brought my food in about 3 minutes. Note that KC+P has touchless serving. I slowly savored the Fritatta. Excellent. I would call it a Personal Quiche, but what's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. And sipped on my Mountain Culture Kombucha / The Ginger. Always good. The dining area comprises a few circular tables and large sofas, all spaced well apart. Very good Grit Coffee. Very good Kombucha. Very good snacks. Über cheerful staff. While the parking lot is quite large, I have yet to snag a space near the entrance. The ladies' room is very clean, as is the rest of the building. I look forward to returning. Frequently. KC+P is relatively new, but is a wonderful asset to the community. It has taken me way too long to get to Kindness. It isn't exactly on the way to work, and I don't work out at the Y in the morning. Well, maybe if I did work out in the morning I could grab Kindness on the way out... But that's another review. I grabbed a Mocha Latte the other day and it was AMAZING! The barista did a great job making the drink. It had just the right mixture of mocha flavor and coffee flavor. They have a great spot in the lobby of the YMCA with seating to enjoy a drink, read a book, or study. You DO NOT have to be a member of the YMCA to visit. It is open to the public. Kindness is a non-profit that employees adults with disabilities. While drinks and pastries are the vehicle, anyone who visits knows they are actually selling a unique experience where people with and without disabilities interact as peers, where connections are made and lives are transformed. Run, don't walk to Kindness. Grab a drink or conversation, and pick up some great swag too! read more

There is no place in the world like Kindness cafe and no kinder people, the staff are beautiful souls who know how to be burristas and serve us well. I have been going since the very first day they opened and i'm there at least once if not twice a week. My men's group has been meeting for 18 years and when kindness opened we moved over so on Friday mornings we are there being loved on by the staff. We even get valentines from these young people. My sons and I started frequenting Kindess Cafe during breaks in Zoom Kindergarten classes 2 years ago. We came for the curbside or drive by/drive-thru pick up (maybe the most convenient and easy "drive thru coffee" in Charlottesville!) of delicious icy Americanos, fun smoothies, perfect tea selection, and all through the year in winter - FIST PUMPS (hot chocolate with so many treats). We could bring to the bike path or playground with us or now play some games they have set up outside. But not only did/do we continue to come for all of the treats, but for the chance to share a chat and some smiles under the huge yellow umbrellas outside or just passing by with team Kindness. We're SO glad they're here! read more

Ordered our lattes and pastries online and hopped in the car. Drinks were piping hot and ready when we showed up. A smart little outdoor tent system for drink pickup made it easy. Our drinks were next to a napkin flag with our name on it so cute! In sum, such a beautiful concept. And, fantastic execution.
