Got the veggie burger as a late night snack when arriving in Charlottesville. They use huge burger buns that have a slight buttery crisp. The veggie burger was good but I wish there was more of a black bean taste from it. The Cajun fries were the star of the show, they were so so so crispy with a melt in your mouth inside. The spicy aïoli that came with it paired perfectly. My server was Mel, she was really nice and attentive. All of the servers were friendly. Our server was very nice although she seemed a bit uniformed about the menu and drink options. I ordered homemade pierogis in a truffle cream sauce, salmon with mushroom, walnut, and spinach risotto, and the Nutella beignets. The pierogis were underwhelming, but the cream sauce was delicious. The salmon was very flavorful and the risotto was cooked well. The dessert was disappointing-it was one single beignet that was soggy and difficult to eat. My partner ordered the gumbo, jambalaya, and bourbon banana bread pudding. He thoroughly enjoyed the gumbo, thought the jambalaya was good but not amazing, and said that the bread pudding was tasty. I came here today with some girlfriends and we had a good experience for how busy brunch was! We were able to be seated very quickly and order our food. Everything was great and the portions were huge! I loved my biscuits they were just a tad bit dry. My vegetarian egg plate was delicious and packed with veggies as well. I loved all the vegetarian friendly options so that's a huge plus!! Just be aware since it's right near UVA, Sunday brunch can get pretty crowded and be a bit loud with all the college age students. Horrible food. Scrambled eggs were not even warm and very salty. Biscuits so hard that they could not be cut with knife and fork. Gravy also over salted. Fried chicken was dry, almost burnt and fried in old grease. Weak coffee. Server was very sweet. She asked if there was a problem. She took our full plates back to kitchen to show manager. Came here with a friend for brunch. I did not like the online reservation system because reservations must be confirmed by the chef. But if you make reservations well in advance then you should be fine. However, reservations are definitely required because the restaurant gets pretty crowded on the weekends, and it's located on the corner.   We tried the Pint Mimosa, Eggs in Avocado, and Bacon Chocolate Chip Pancake. The Pint Mimosa was good for the price. It's not the best mimosa and you can tell that it's made with cheap champagne and not fresh orange juice. However, it still tastes good and for 3 dollars it's a fun way to start a weekend morning.   I liked the Eggs in Avocado. It was a fun and very millennial dish. The ingredients were fresh. I was not a fan of the salsa in the dish. I would have preferred a salsa with real tomatoes to provide an acidic component compliment the fattiness of the eggs and avocado. However, I didn't have that much of problem with it because I could easily take it off.   The bacon chocolate chip pancake was standard. It was a good pancake, but it wasn't amazing. Simple and tasty, but nothing impressive that you can't get similar to elsewhere.   Overall, Fig is a fun and cute brunch spot. It's not my favorite brunch spot in Charlottesville but I could see myself coming back here with friends. read more

I really, really wanted to love Fig but just couldn't. I've had one brunch here and one dinner, and been for drinks a few times. The drinks are great, they have a great deal on Thursdays and are always fast. For the food: first big note is that they do not split checks. This is fine, but if you're in a group plan to have one person charge and be reimbursed. For brunch the mimosas are a good deal, and you can even take some to go. The food was lackluster, rather dry and not much seasoning. The brunch was fine, but not worth the price tag. Dinner felt much the same way. The food menu for dinner is very small, which I usually take to be a sign that everything prepared is expertly done. However, no specific dish really shined. Overall, the food here is not bad and the drinks are great, but it's not a place that drives me to come back again and again. read more

To fix this entree they should use a white, fluffy sourdough biscuit, cut in half and served with sausage paddies and pouched eggs (Benedict style) but with white cream gravy with fresh ground black pepper instead of hollandaise. Fig can be found on the Corner right on the out-skirts of UVA's grounds, which means they are BUSY! The food was great, but was on the pricier side. The service was also very slow simply due to the number of people in the restaurant. I got the I Dare You Wrap which was made up of a eggs, mushrooms, jalapeños, Cajun potatoes, and cheddar cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. I did need hot sauce however (for anyone like me who needs the spice). My only major complaint is that the kitchen doesn't take substitutions (only subtractions). As a vegetarian, I was able to take out the bacon from the I Dare You wrap, but wasn't able to substitute it for another vegetable. The best dish at Fig however is their fried oreos! They make for THE PERFECT dessert. Although a little pricey, I highly recommend at least a one-time try. read more

I managed to squeeze in a reservation the morning of my visit so by the time I showed up, my group was immediately seated. Service is quick and attentive. The atmosphere is pretty fun. The food, perhaps, is less up to par. I think avocado dishes for breakfast manage to be pretty light but satisfyingly filling enough, so I eagerly ordered Eggs in Avocado. It comes with avocados, scrambled eggs, a salad, and a dollop of salsa with an additional sauce (if I remember correctly). All elements individually were mediocre and standard, nothing wrong enough to complain about but also nothing particularly unique enough to make them stand out. The avocados were slightly firm and without zest or anything charming. The scrambled eggs were decent. Overall, the dish was missing something to unite all these flavors together into one holistic dish. My family and I came in really hungry and at a busy Sunday brunch time. Timing was on our side though as they squeezed us in at a table almost right way and the place was packed and fun music was playing. This is a hoppin' busy place! Lots of UVA students frequently go here since it's on the UVA corner. I wouldn't recommend it for groups, as they add 20% gratuity to groups of 6 or more, unless you're on one check- because they won't split the check. They ran out of food items such as Bloody Marys and biscuits. They even ran out of napkins. Our group made a reservation in advance but still faced a 25 minute wait. I ordered a Mediterranean Omelette & at first it was good. However, as I ate, it was runny throughout so it wasn't cooked through. The pancakes were good... others ordered those! Overall, I won't be returning. If you're in the mood for pancakes though, I would say you're okay to eat here... otherwise not much to write home about as far as Sunday brunch goes. read more

My friends and I went here on one of the busiest days during the UVA's tradition of Midsummer. And the service, Vibe, and food was still stellar! Quick overview: the service is very friendly, and accommodating. For the food, go with something more indulgent. Bloody Mary's are the only thing I would say just don't order here. GET THE MIMOSAS TO GO! (Mainly cause it's cute and fun) I got the eggs and avocado and it was so delicious, but honestly I wish I'd gotten one of their creative menus on your item, such as the bacon pancakes that my friend got and said that they were the best pancakes she's ever had!! The more creative menu option seem like the way to go. I loved my food but it wasn't super unique. It was a good plate of eggs and avocado! You can order mimosas to go and they were really good, and such a cute little innovation that I've never seen anywhere else. The Fig Bistro was our serendipitous brunch selection during our free morning before a wedding in Charlottesville. It was right next to the main campus on Main street. Even though it was busy, the staff were able to squeeze us in after only 10 short minutes. We were lucky to be seated on their adorable little outdoor area right off the main dining room. I got an iced coffee and a mimosa. I was shocked that a mimosa was only $3! That was such a great price for a mason jar of mimosa! I chose the biscuits and gravy as my entree. It was fire. I loved every single bite of that huge plate of food. The home fry potatoes were cajun style, a little spicy but very flavorful. The biscuit and gravy portion was very cheesy and peppery just like I love my Bs and Gs to be! Now the real star of this show, was the BACON. OH BOY. It was crispy as hell dude. It was a gal's brunch date with 4 of us. We made reservations for Saturday, but we probably didn't need them. I started with a figmosa- a mimosa with an added shot of vodka...the PERFECT way to get my meal started! The menu looked amazing, it was so hard for all of us to pick our dishes! Our waitress was a bit over-attentive and would ask if we were ready to order every 2 minutes when we repeatedly said we needed more time and just didn't want to rush since we were enjoying our morning of gossip. Though she came off a bit annoying, she did have great recommendations. I was really happy with the fried chicken and biscuit with chorizo gravy and fried egg. The portion was big, I'm surprised I ate it all! I also had a bite of the chocolate chip bacon pancakes which were equally amazing! But, back to our waitress, we were handed our check right after we were handed our food and were just starting to eat. Came here for restaurant week because I've heard so many people say great things about it. I will give them points for the atmosphere, and the food was fast even though the restaurant was full. Otherwise, I ended up pretty disappointed because my expectations were high. I do understand that restaurant week may introduce extra difficulties in terms of the unique dishes and more customers. However, I do think that we were forgotten about because we waited about 15 minutes after we sat and saw other later tables get water and even their orders taken before we were even given water. The server immediately threw the host under the bus which was a little funny but more uncomfortable. The restaurant was mostly full, but there appeared to be enough servers to handle it based on my own opinion as a server myself. The oysters were great, but my grits entree was disappointing because it wasn't very flavorful and the portion was pretty small. They're on the menu as "jalapeño cheese grits," but I didn't taste any spice whatsoever. Calling them cheese grits was the equivalent of calling La Croix fruit-flavored. I was also expecting multiple beignets, but it was just one that was a little too browned for my taste. My friends also weren't that impressed with the food, and the apple pie was unexpectedly served cold and didn't come with ice cream like the menu said it would. I also didn't expect to be charged for each fountain Pepsi I drank, so that was kind of whack. Not sure if that's a restaurant policy or just something our server did. Maybe we are all big eaters, but we ended our meal discussing where to get something else to eat because we were still hungry. TL;DR: the atmosphere was nice, and the food came out in a timely manner but was disappointing in flavor and quantity (except for the oysters). After stopping by for a light meal and some drinks, I was very happy with their service and the quality of their food. I went with a few people for brunch last weekend, and despite having a reservation we had to wait a good half hour for our table. To add insult to injury, the food was just ok and a lot of it was cold! I ordered a side of cheesy potatoes that came out in a mini skillet (would imply a sizzling hot dish, right?) but the cheese was not even melted and it was cold to the touch. A few others got the potatoes as part of their main course and had the same temperature issues, so it seems safe to say that those are not made to order. I also tried the pain perdu (French toast) and the crab cake benny. The French toast was pretty tasty, but the crab benny was disappointing. There was not enough sauce or crab to make up for the overwhelming abundance of carbs (hearty portion of grits AND an entire biscuit). The Bloody Mary was also quite bland and had very little booze in it. Service was fine, though, and she did split our checks which was nice! What a beautiful place for brunch or happy hour. The interior is clean, modern, and decorated with string lights to give it a really comfortable and aesthetic ambiance. They have excellent savory and sweet options for brunch, and a varied dinner menu as well with underlying southern cuisine dishes and flavors. I really enjoyed the avocado egg bake for brunch and stuffed dates for a dinner appetizer. They also do a weekly survivor hour for $1-2 rail drinks and other drink deals. The service and ownership are incredible as well. I can only comment on brunch and on this day, it did not leave a favorable impression. It was so bad, it does not warrant a return to try the dinner service. The impression began with friends who love locally calling to see if there would be a table. There was a lot of discussion, because it is restaurant week and that was only available later. Though they were still not quick to be take the reservation, which we understood was later into their day, close to closing, but appeared to only be the beginning of the disappointment with Fig. The chicken with the special was over cooked, dry and flavorless. The peach pancake special smelled good and looked good, but that was it. The peaches were fresh and only slightly warmed, which was nice, but they were dry pancakes. Dry pancakes require syrup, the handle of the syrup was covered in syrup. The server did not ask how the check would be. They refused to separate the ticket, saying they do not do that, even though the couple we were with ate there previously and had two tickets. So clearly they do, this server did not. read more

We don't typically visit a Corner restaurant while school is in session, but we wanted to try FIG using our Hospice dining coupon before it expired. It was a great special as it included any of the beers on tap, not just Bud Light, Coors Light, etc. Margaritas were also $2 during Friday's happy hour. Service was not great, as we sat for about 10 minutes without anyone coming over. We had to flag someone down to place our drink order before 6:00. We ordered our food then as well. Our food came out extremely quick, about 2 minutes after our drinks arrived. My husband ordered the jambalaya and I had the pesto penne crab cake special.
