Had breakfast here on a weekend day. Was very busy but didn't have to wait too long. Very clean, staff was friendly. Food was ok. Thought the pancakes would be better.

Came here for brunch Pros: - The pecan pancakes are delicious, big chunks of pecan in every bite - The gravy for the Chicken and Waffles was well seasoned and had good chunks of meat - The cheeseburger was very satisfying - Place is very homey - Very friendly staff - Clean bathrooms - Plenty of parking out front Cons: - The chicken tender for the Chicken and Waffles were a bit dry and flavorless

I had the Country Club Omlette with Pancakes and my Girfriend had the Sausage Omlette with English Muffin today. We both agree the Pancakes are Great The sause on Country Club Omlette is not anything like Hollandaise I have had. It is not bad, just not Hollandaise. Girlfriend said Sausage Omelette was OK but worst English muffin she has ever had. Waitress was great and ambiance was good. Search continues for good Hollandaise.

This place is hopping and just a short jump of the interstate.

Definitely a reason why this place has been around for more than 3 decades. Good country cooking with solid flavors and wonderful service. Such a nice accidental find as well got off the internet for another place that was closed. Will add this to my scheduled stops when passing through Virginia. Highly recommend the Benedict's Cousin!

Our first visit to Kathy's started with us wondering if we picked the right place for a quick, light lunch. We arrived 40 minutes before closing ( we were traveling & it ended up being a late lunch for us) - they close at 3:00. We stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign for a few minutes before anyone acknowledged us, finally a customer (she must have been a regular) got up from the counter stool & said she'd seat us. We waited a while before anyone came to our table. But, once we ordered the food came in a timely manner. The grilled cheese was very tasty as was the vegetable beef soup. My hubby got a burger - his was good too. We decided to go back the next day for breakfast - it was a totally different scene! We were seated immediately, waited on immediately and our food came so quick, in spite of the fact that the place was packed! We both got pancakes - me pumpkin & my hubby blueberry. They were both delicious, they were so light and fluffy! Both were served with a cinnamon butter - very delicious! Everyone was very friendly & personable. The place was very clean, and I loved the decor. I would definitely recommend this place and would come back again!

I lived in Staunton for a few years almost a decade ago and was recently back for the first time since. There were a few places on the list to revisit, one of the big ones being Kathy's as it was always a favorite. Their breakfast is still great! Service is still excellent as well. And prices are almost the same as they were 10 years ago which were always fair! I always loved their bennies, but the crown jewel for me was always the waffles with bacon in the batter so I had to get that. It had a touch less bacon than I remember, but it was still great-smoky and sweet with a little applesauce and syrup on top. I added a couple of over easy eggs and was good to go. Definitely recommended if you're in the area.

Just an amazing place for breakfast. I'm no a huge breakfast person but this place is at the top of the list. The eggs are just so fluffy and fresh the best I have eaten in a while. The pancakes that come with the eggs are jus perfection. Great coffee too sometimes an after thought. Cool ambiance and good service

We were very impressed with Kathy's. The service was excellent, and the food was simple but really well done. The country ham portion was very generous. I mean, look at the pics I attached. Ridiculously generous. Eggs were perfect. Sausage gravy tasted like it was cooked well, not a hint of that flour taste you sometimes get. Grits were very good. Coffee was strong and welcome. What more could you want? Look, this is a simple place with basic American breakfast and lunch. But when a restaurant does a simple thing well, it is a really good thing. Kathy's does it right. Five grateful stars for a great breakfast.

Short visit for breakfast while passing thru town. Definitely wouldn't come back. It wasn't bad, terrible, just wasn't worth coming back so I would probably try something else in the area if I was ever passing thru town again. Dinning area floor could use a refinishing, it looks uninviting. I had an omelette with a side of pecan pancakes. The omelette was ok, not much flavor other than the sausage pieces inside and even those were not that great. Pancakes were good, pecans were mixed into the batter and not just dumped on top.

When we walked it we were overwhelmed with choices. The menu takes up an entire wall and there are sweet, savory and traditional meals to choose from. I'm sure no matter what your preference is, you will find something that meets your palate here. We chose the chorizo, egg and avocado waffle and my wife had the wiskets (waffle+biscuits) and gravy. So this is where things started to become a little disappointing. The staff pointed us to an electronic kiosk to take our order, take a pager, and pay. Oh of course we were asked for a tip. (More on this later) We took a table and waited for our pager. We found silver and napkins at the service counter and wrangled those. When the pager went off, we went up to the counter and retrieved our food. So...the food was really well presented and designed for the Gram. It was tepid at best, and unfortunately, not really flavorful. The waffle was soggy, with more of the consistency of a pancake than a waffle. My wife had the wiskets and I'm not sure if the staff has ever had sausage gravy before, but they may want to try a different formulation. When we finished, we found the Dishroom where we needed to scrape and bus our plates. So if I have to ring up the transaction, seat myself, wait on myself and bus the tables, what am I tipping for? Maybe I'm just salty because we were very near $40 for a mediocre breakfast for two, but the tipping thing just feels a bit tone deaf.

The parking lot is sizeable and there is a rear entrance to the restaurant from the parking area in the back. I walked around and entered through the front and found a very busy restaurant. The restaurant is a good size with a bar and a private room on the side. It took quite a while for one of the two servers working to get to me. Best I can tell is that one of the servers was relatively new so there was lots of instruction going on in addition to serving a restaurant full of people. It was spaghetti night and Armstrong's spaghetti is, apparently, popular! I ordered a hot dog with chili, slaw and mustard. Server came back a few minutes later and said they were out of chili. And did I just want onions and mustard.... So, I corrected her to slaw and mustard and out the hot dog came. Just a hot dog on a plate. The menu said that the hot dog came with chips. I reminded my server of that. She took the plate back and returned with a hot dog and what looked like the crumbs from the bottom of a wavy Lays bag. I had asked for ranch to dip the chips in but very few of these were dippable. The hot dog wasn't great. The slaw here was SUPER sweet and without the chili flavor to balance it, it was overwhelmingly sweet. Overall, just not a great experience. The inside reminds me of a Chili's or Ruby Tuesday, but a bit darker. I think it's a nice atmosphere, appropriate for date night, a group, a family, etc. Our server (who has worked here for 3 years) was friendly and efficient. To start, we ordered a bowl of yesterday's soup special (She crab) and a small order of boiled shrimp. The soup was excellent, creamy, and with small pieces of crab throughout. The shrimp (six in the small order) were prepared well and came with a tangy cocktail sauce. The server brought over a loaf of their complimentary bread, which is actually three breads together in a single loaf. The bread was good (I preferred the dark loaf part) and came with a peach butter. We were told that the butters change periodically. The butter had pieces of peach in it (!) and we enjoyed the novelty. Our server mentioned that they also have a pistachio butter and maple butter. Yum. I ordered a salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad itself was good - fresh, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, apple, almond pieces, etc. Then there was the dressing. Although I mixed the salad dressing in the cup before tasting it, when I did taste it, it was almost all oil with no discernible vinegar or other flavor. I kept stirring and tasting and nothing. So I abandoned the dressing. For entrees, my partner ordered the charbroiled salmon in herb butter with a side of broccoli. The salmon was prepared well and very tasty. I ordered the mahi-mahi, with the sun-dried tomato butter sauce on the side. The mahi-mahi was well prepared and tasty on its own. Honestly, I tasted the sun-dried tomato butter sauce and it was essentially whipped butter. I didn't think it added anything to the entree so I didn't use it. The potato came with butter and sour cream on the side. The potato was very good. Although we were full and not planning on dessert, the server came over with small cups of peppermint ice cream, calling it a "palate cleanser." It was very good and a nice touch. Other than the salad dressing and the sauce for the fish, it was an excellent meal in a nice atmosphere with good service. When we were leaving at around 7:00 pm, the line was out the door.
