Dropped into my first Waffle House a couple weeks ago while in Stanton for work. For the most part, I enjoyed my visit. Joyce my waitress was very nice. She was kinda funny also. It was a pleasure to be in her presence. I ordered the Bacon Texas Cheesesteak Melt with Hashbrowns with a waffle on the side. My cheesesteak melt was so delicious. I will definitely be back for one of those again. My waffle on the other hand was not the best. It soggy and wasn't cooked all the way thru. So considering it's called Waffle House, I was expecting to have a great waffle experience but it was a fail. It could've just been a off day. I really like the prices. Very reasonable. And it was right across the street from the hotel I was staying at, so very convenient as well. I come to Staunton every other month, so I'll be back to give them another chance to redeem my waffle experience.

The service was EXCELLENT. I swear, our drinks from the bar were at the table before we even ordered them, and they were delicious! The food was pretty good. The kids got penne pasta with marina. It tasted like canned marinara, so I wasn't a fan, but they tore into it! I got the veggie pasta and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were delicious. The veggie pasta was pretty good, though it could have used an olive oil drizzle. My husband had the bison Burger and liked it. We also got dessert. The peanut butter pie was sooo sweet. The cheesecake was a good cheesecake. I would eat there again.

To the left is a large seating area that I didn't know was there until I went to the restroom. The bar is stunning. We were served by Jennifer. We shared artichoke dip; hubby had the lump crab cake sandwich with a side of coleslaw which he demolished, and I had the Toosday salad--delicious and a huge portion, with fresh pieces of apple, pecan, feta cheese and well prepared grill chicken. Had both the poppyseed and raspberry vinaigrette dressings which complimented the salad. Leftovers for me and no dessert. Great train area as well for train buffs.

There are so many options in this lovely town but I made a reservation at Zynodoa because I have been on a farm-to-table kick lately. The servers and hosts were all lovely, interacting with both the guests and each other professionally and amicably. My server Sarah gave me as much attention as anyone else, even though I was the only person dining alone. I ordered the tomato and burrata appetizer. I am not a big raw tomato eater but I knew if these were truly farm-to-table, they would taste good, and they did. The flavor felt like a combination of sunshine and a warm hug! The cheese tasted like a sweet kiss. The portion was substantial, and there was balsamic reduction and a generous amount of coarse pesto. I ate the whole thing! For the main course I ordered the flat iron steak. Because I was traveling and didn't want leftovers, I asked the server for a smaller portion than listed, but either I wasn't clear or it wasn't an option--It's okay, though. I ordered the steak medium rare but it was a shade above rare; again, okay. Sides were good but I added salt. The meal was a bit pricey but probably fair given that it was sourced locally. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the chef is heavy handed on the sauces, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. Oh, I ordered the pinot noir and it was good, smooth, balanced. Overall impression of Zynodoa was it felt like visiting the home of a friend with a garden who loves to cook and share with her friends. The portions were generous and the seasoning was substantial. I highly recommend to anyone visiting Staunton.

The cocktail and mocktails were flavorful and well priced. Our waiter was great. Very knowledgeable about the menu, town and ingredients. We started with the Chicken Liver pate. This was well prepared, although I hate when a restaurant provides an odd number of toasts for two people. We asked for an extra piece and thought it was funny that they gave us exactly one. FYI- it comes with several accoutrements which were tasty, but the mustard was really the most satisfying. My wife had the brisket, which I would call a must have. Fantastic Asian spices, fried rice ball and Kimchi. Just an explosion of flavors. I was glad she shared. (This is uncommon) I had the pork chop and it was really pretty. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor and I had to carve off the fat which made up about 1/3rd of the chop. The bone was the other third...so it turned out to be a thick but modest cut. That said, it was on a lovely bed of mash and some of the best blue and white carrots I ever had. We finished with the carrot cake. (All of the desserts are made onsite.) which we learned was gluten free. Honestly if it was marked GF I wouldn't have ordered it. Anyway, when it arrived I thought we received the wrong thing. It looked like a decorative cliff bar. Once we took a bite we were blown away by the flavors and texture. It was delicious. Such a great experience. We were near the kitchen, so we got to see the head chef get orders out. There were some highs and lows, but the overall experience was really nice.

I got a cinnamon roll bigger than my hand to go when we checked out after breakfast. We were promptly greeted upon entry and sat in a booth. My husband covered cream chipped beef because that's not something we usually see on menus near us. I got biscuits and sausage gravy. The portions were HUGE. We could have done with a half serving of that was an option or shared. My husband thought his chipped beef was a little floury but my gravy was good. I did have to add some salt and pepper to my eggs which I guess I can understand that maybe people don't want them pre salted in case they are on a restricted diet. Pricing was reasonable for the portion size. $35 for 2 people with my to go pastry before tip. The restaurant has a bit of an old timer feel. It's been in business since 1947 which is pretty cool. They also have signs about closed areas for groups and they accept buses. If I'm in the area again, I think I'll try an eclair. My cinnamon roll was super moist which I was honestly pleasantly surprised by since it was a to go pastry. They also have a fridge with glass door that showed other to go options like the chopped beef and cinnamon apples.

First, let me say the waitress was ok. What I didn't like was when she filled up my sweet tea for the refill, the serving pitcher of sweet tea touched my glass where I was drinking from. Kind of grossed me out. I stopped drinking the tea. And then halfway through the meal, she put my check on the table. Almost like she was rushing me, but also adding "no rush", like it was passive aggressive. Where was the upsell for dessert and maybe a coffee? Nope, not from this waitress. I ordered from what seemed like an early menu. My order consisted of two breasts of chicken and two sides. This was available starting at 4 o'clock, so I guess it was the earlybird special. The two sides consisted of god-awful dumplings, and coleslaw, which was edible. Also included were two muffins that weren't too appetizing, along with multiple butter packets. I even tried the muffin with some supplied jelly and that didn't work. Anyways, the two chicken breasts were well seasoned, but something was wrong. The texture just didn't seem right when I cut into it; almost like it was raw, but it wasn't. The chicken breast was also dry and rubbery Let me talk about these dumplings for a second. It was like undercooked dough, unflavored, and then some seemingly canned chicken gravy was poured over the top of it. This had to be one of the nastiest things I've ever eaten. I didn't even bother checking the restrooms. I wanted out. Also, it seemed like a manager was walking back-and-forth, talking on his cell phone, with an earbud in, not paying attention to the staff or the kitchen. Now I know why this Cracker Barrel is rated so low. I really wanted to like this place. I really really did. Perhaps when I get back to Connecticut I will try a local one again for a second chance. In my humble opinion, Cracker Barrel needs to shape up with the appearance, the staff, the cook, and the menu. Management from this location needs to go; maybe get a job doing something other than customer service. I won't say this place is a total failure, but you can see it from there
