I came here today with some girlfriends and we had a good experience for how busy brunch was! We were able to be seated very quickly and order our food. Everything was great and the portions were huge! I loved my biscuits they were just a tad bit dry. My vegetarian egg plate was delicious and packed with veggies as well. I loved all the vegetarian friendly options so that's a huge plus!! Just be aware since it's right near UVA, Sunday brunch can get pretty crowded and be a bit loud with all the college age students. It was cute though, it was someone's birthday so they brought out some cake and played a birthday song for this girl and her group of friends.

We've been going to Fig for years but only when UVa is on break. Parking can be tough! Decided to check it out during fall break and were not disappointed. I have an allergy and so asked for an adjustment to my order and the kitchen didn't blink but made a dish that was an adaptation to a menu item. WOW! Anna and crew continue to knock it out of the park here with wonderful food and service. Thanks to all!

Came here with a friend for brunch. I did not like the online reservation system because reservations must be confirmed by the chef. But if you make reservations well in advance then you should be fine. However, reservations are definitely required because the restaurant gets pretty crowded on the weekends, and it's located on the corner.   We tried the Pint Mimosa, Eggs in Avocado, and Bacon Chocolate Chip Pancake. The Pint Mimosa was good for the price. It's not the best mimosa and you can tell that it's made with cheap champagne and not fresh orange juice. However, it still tastes good and for 3 dollars it's a fun way to start a weekend morning.   I liked the Eggs in Avocado. It was a fun and very millennial dish. The ingredients were fresh. I was not a fan of the salsa in the dish. I would have preferred a salsa with real tomatoes to provide an acidic component compliment the fattiness of the eggs and avocado. However, I didn't have that much of problem with it because I could easily take it off.   The bacon chocolate chip pancake was standard. It was a good pancake, but it wasn't amazing. Simple and tasty, but nothing impressive that you can't get similar to elsewhere.   Overall, Fig is a fun and cute brunch spot. It's not my favorite brunch spot in Charlottesville but I could see myself coming back here with friends.

I really, really wanted to love Fig but just couldn't. I've had one brunch here and one dinner, and been for drinks a few times. The drinks are great, they have a great deal on Thursdays and are always fast. For the food: first big note is that they do not split checks. This is fine, but if you're in a group plan to have one person charge and be reimbursed. For brunch the mimosas are a good deal, and you can even take some to go. The food was lackluster, rather dry and not much seasoning. The brunch was fine, but not worth the price tag. Dinner felt much the same way. The food menu for dinner is very small, which I usually take to be a sign that everything prepared is expertly done. However, no specific dish really shined. Overall, the food here is not bad and the drinks are great, but it's not a place that drives me to come back again and again.

Fig can be found on the Corner right on the out-skirts of UVA's grounds, which means they are BUSY! The food was great, but was on the pricier side. The service was also very slow simply due to the number of people in the restaurant. I got the I Dare You Wrap which was made up of a eggs, mushrooms, jalapeños, Cajun potatoes, and cheddar cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla. I did need hot sauce however (for anyone like me who needs the spice). My only major complaint is that the kitchen doesn't take substitutions (only subtractions). As a vegetarian, I was able to take out the bacon from the I Dare You wrap, but wasn't able to substitute it for another vegetable. The best dish at Fig however is their fried oreos! They make for THE PERFECT dessert. Although a little pricey, I highly recommend at least a one-time try.

The big draw to this venue is the promise of cajun taste and it just wasnt there for me honestly. That is not to take away from the food. I got the Big Fig: the eggs were good, the potatoes were probably the best thing on my plate and bacon is BACON sooo lol My plate definitely could have been warmer bit my food came out fast. Of course there were $2 Mimosas which is always a plus. All in all for affordable food that tastes good... i would go again!

It always appeared as a very happening place--a bustling vibe with a constant stream of patrons who have booked reservations. I managed to squeeze in a reservation the morning of my visit so by the time I showed up, my group was immediately seated. Service is quick and attentive. The atmosphere is pretty fun. The food, perhaps, is less up to par. I think avocado dishes for breakfast manage to be pretty light but satisfyingly filling enough, so I eagerly ordered Eggs in Avocado. It comes with avocados, scrambled eggs, a salad, and a dollop of salsa with an additional sauce (if I remember correctly). All elements individually were mediocre and standard, nothing wrong enough to complain about but also nothing particularly unique enough to make them stand out. The avocados were slightly firm and without zest or anything charming. The scrambled eggs were decent. Overall, the dish was missing something to unite all these flavors together into one holistic dish. It was more like an assemblage of breakfast items onto one plate, goal-less and without synchrony.

My family and I came in really hungry and at a busy Sunday brunch time. Timing was on our side though as they squeezed us in at a table almost right way and the place was packed and fun music was playing. It server was fantastic, got us a high chair, took our orders and had our drinks out pretty quickly. Especially, a quick side of bacon to keep our toddler chill. I was really impressed as it was so packed in there. The food quality was good, the mimosa was even better but I do wish the waffle was a bit crispier. We'll be back for sure and I'd love to try those cool seats in the alley!

We had our daughters 40th Birthday at Fig It was fabulous! Planning a surprise party from California was made simple with the guidance and assurance from Anja@Fig.. The food was fabulous, service, could not have been better.. We all had such an amazing experience! Thank you again to Anja and your entire staff, for making a memory of a life time!

This restaurant is clearly formerly a small home, given how it has so many small rooms set up like bedrooms, hallways, narrow stairs, and living rooms with six-pane windows. Plenty of mason jars and small flowers spread on each table. The food exceeded my expectations. The coffee and espresso were made by a skilled barista who steams great milk and can tell apart a cortado, latte, and flat white. My sweet potato hash was very tender, salted to perfection, and matched with a good amount of turkey sausage they managed to present piping hot but not dried out. My companion's smoked salmon and poached egg easily split under a fork and coated the plate in delightful yolk. Sensibly prepared. Nothing dry or cold. I found the entrance quite difficult to locate when coming from the Oakhurst Inn, probably a consequence of how the property is laid out with so many cabins and houses on the grounds. If you can manage the maze of stairs and paths, you'll find a charming cafe across from a new housing development. Definitely come here if you want good espresso or an appetizing breakfast.

My Wahoo daughter brought me here during Family Weekend, and now I totally get why this place is a UVA favorite. The building itself is part of a beautifully restored historic industrial complex off Preston Avenue. It's an adaptive-reuse space (formerly part of the old Coca-Cola bottling works), and the design keeps that industrial character alive: tall ceilings, exposed materials, and a layout that feels open, social, and easygoing. The outdoor area is especially smartly done. They've got roll-down fabric walls and overhead heat lamps that keep the patio comfortable even when the temperature dips. It's basically an all-weather beer-garden vibe, and it works. Here's how our meal went down: * Shared starter: the Jumbo Bavarian Pretzel. Warm, soft, perfectly salted, and killer with both the mustard and the cheese sauce. * My entrée: the Local Steak Salad -- gorgeous presentation, tender grass-fed beef, and those pickled turnips, radish slices, and greens in herb buttermilk dressing absolutely tied it together. * My daughter's entrée: Bratwurst, which disappeared quickly, so that tells you what you need to know. Service setup is counter-service for food with table drop-off, and drinks are ordered directly at the bar. It's efficient, friendly, and gives the whole place an easygoing "European beer hall meets Charlottesville neighborhood spot" feel. Kardinal Hall is one of those places where good food, good architecture, and good energy all line up. If you're in town -- especially visiting UVA -- this is a must-stop.
