I really wanted to like BBQ Country, but this was a disappointment--especially for the price. We spent about $60 for a small pork sandwich with mac and cheese and two beef platters with sides, and unfortunately, none of it delivered. The beef was extremely dry and barely even lukewarm. The mac and cheese was dry and completely lacking flavor, and the collard greens tasted like they came from a can or freezer--no seasoning, no depth. My son liked his pork sandwich so two stars for that! Even the coffee missed the mark--bitter, weak, and cold. I ended up throwing it out after accidentally pouring it into my tea cup, which pretty much summed up the experience. It has a truck stop vibe, which is fine--but I was told this was the best BBQ in the area, and it just didn't live up to that at all. I love hole in the wall places that are hidden gems. This isn't that. Serving the food right in front of you is a nice concept, but it doesn't make up for cold, dry, flavorless BBQ. The bathroom was also very dirty, which didn't help the overall impression. Positives: * Large parking lot--great for trucks and RVs * I got to show my son what a pay phone looks like * There are Bibles inside for truckers who might need a little encouragement BBQ shouldn't be pretentious--but this felt more embarrassing than anything else. It's a little more expensive than it used to be. Inflation. That's what it is everywhere. Yet I'm happy to recommend this restaurant. Do I generally get a meal at a gas station? Nope but here, it's been known as a good place for years. Recently enjoyed another lunch. Wonderful employees, and great service as well. Here you'll feel valued and have a good experience. Are there good bbq places in northern Virginia? Sure. Yet many of them are far more expensive than here. You get mouth watering pulled pork, and the quality and taste are impeccable. The BEST Food, Service and Prices. You can't go by and not stop in! It's a must have!

Having moved nearby, we finally made a visit. It's an unassuming location, but don't let that discourage a try. I went with a large, pork sandwich, spicy sauce, with the baked beans as my side. One downside, they turn off the deep fryers a bit early since we got there maybe around 7:30p, they're open until 9p, but the guy at the counter said they usually turn off the fryer at 7p. Good to note for the future for fries or onion rings. For the pork, they take a large handful from a shoulder and do a rough chop. Personally, I like the texture a lot more this way. Sandwich was really good, the smoke flavor was a bit light, but the texture of the meat was perfect. It's not TOO tender and has the right bit of "bite" to it. Beans were good. Not sure if they're homemade, but they do doctor it a bit since there was definitely minced onions added in which have a nice texture as well. I'm interested in going back to try their other meats. We stopped in for supper early on a Friday evening. Little restaurant with a cute interior (i noticed those curtains) that's part of a truck stop. Dining area and kitchen were clean; bathrooms could be cleaner. Service was helpful, cheerful, and quick. Husband and i both got the 3 ribs plate with one side; husband got an extra side. Portions were generous--it took us 2 days to eat the ribs! We both enjoyed the greens but wished they had been more heavily seasoned (salt pork woulda been nice, but i understand the need for vegetarian options); hot sauce helped. The beans were standard baked beans from a can, which is a shame because the BBQ sauces are sooooo good and would make for some killer beans from scratch. We especially like the spicy sauce. Been driving by here for years and seeing this place and thought it was nothing more than a truckstop type diner, so I never stopped. But they've stepped up their social media presence and I decided to stop in to give them a try. We went on a Sunday, around lunch time and it wasn't very busy, though others came in while we were there. Tried the following: Small Pulled pork sandwich - Meat looked great, but wasn't very flavorful. The non-spicy BBQ sauce was slightly too vinegary. Small chopped beef sandwich - Meat looked great, nice smoke look to it and a decent amount of smoke flavor too. Spicy BBQ sauce was decent. Would've been better with something else on it, perhaps slaw. ¼ Chicken - Nice looking smoke to the meat and decent flavor, though not too deep in smokey flavor. It wasn't too dry; it was decent. Baked Beans - Boring... not a lot of flavor, definitely not the "traditional" baked beans from a BBQ joint. Potato Salad - Definitely would have been amazing if there was slightly more mayo and more seasoning, like salt & pepper. Cole Slaw - Nice, nearly perfect! Mac & Cheese - Pretty good, cheesy, flavorful. Apple Crisp - Definitely no "crisp" at all to it, more on the very soft and mushy side. Resembled canned apples and cake mix baked together. I actually liked the flavor though. Overall, it was OK, but nothing special. It was slightly better than I had expected all the years of riving by though. I have been wanting to stop in and give this place a try for years. Woke up on Mother's Day and my wife and I hopped on the motorcycle and took a ride and stopped by for breakfast. It wasn't packed so we were able to order right away. They have a pretty good selection of breakfast items and the prices are very reasonable. I went with the two eggs, sausage and toast with a small order or biscuits and gravy and my wife got an omelette and toast. We sat down and what seemed like only a few minutes later our food was at our table. The portions were generous and the food was pretty good. I will say this, don't judge a book by its cover. It is not a fine diner but the service and quality are better than some of the chain restaurants I have eaten at recently. My wife and I visited on Sunday March 6th, 2022. She had a pulled pork platter with Baked Beans, Mac and Cheese. I had the Beef platter with three sides, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Mac and Cheese. The pulled pork is tender and delicious. The mac and cheese is tasty but a little dry. The baked beans weren't anything special. The brisket was a little dry but tasty, possibly from sitting in the vertical warmer. The potato salad was tasty. The Cole slaw was tasty, plenty of sauce. It was a little sweet for my taste. For me it needs some vinegar or lemon juice. The BBQ sauce was sweet, tangy, had a little kick-delicous. I would go back for sure, I would like to try their ribs. Overall impression, very impressed. Virginia native here... since 1962. My family, since before the Civil War... 1570, actually. My wife is from NC, which is pretty much "BBQ Country" literally. At least on the east coast, anyway... So, I don't need a luxurious ambiance, and in fact, I've gone to far too many places that looked like they had recently narrowly survived a hurricane but had amazing food. Unfortunately, this was not that place. Yes, there's a small, sketchy horror movie-style truckstop as the backdrop for the joint... but that didn't dissuade my friend and me from checking it out the other day. And yes, the interior also looks like some scene from some dystopian flick, but still, we held out hope for the food. Watching them prep the pork, I knew we were in trouble. No noticeable seasoning/smell was coming from the prep area, and then the young man prepping the meat was over-chopping the meat. It was incredibly bland and over-sauced. VERY disappointing and NOT 'cheap.' Between the mediocre food, and then the glaring "Southern Heritage" patrons, we're done. I miss Sibby's in Warrenton. Definite dive location but decent BBQ depending on your preferences. They chop to order so the BBQ is juicy and tender. The sauce is a little overwhelming but I prefer Easter NC vinegar based sauce. This is a thicker sauce so I would ask for it in the side as the sauce serving is generous. The coleslaw was really good and matched well with the tangy sauce. Onion Rings, Potato Salad, and Collards are just okay. The price for two chopped platters and 2 fountain drinks was $41 which I think is really high for BBQ especially surprising for such a humble atmosphere. Closing hours listed 9pm. Arrived at 730pm on Monday. I walked up to the counter and was greeted with a friendly manner. The server informed me that they had just pork and beef. I ordered a brisket and pork combo with French fries and greens. They were "out of French fries" so I opted for potato salad. After paying for the order I walked over to sit. The server yells we close in 10 minutes. Would have been nice to know that because I would not have drove 30 min to get takeout. I sat down and ate quickly and it felted rushed. In addition the meat was cold, greens cold. The potato salad was probably the best part of the meal. I went to use the bathroom prior to leaving and was very dirty. I'm a local and BBQ connoisseur and had been wanting to try this place based on some recent reviews. Will start off with the sides. They were all good. We had bbq beans, slaw, potato salad and French fries. The French fries were especially good fresh off the fryer. Now for the meats. I got the half chicken. It was decent, however just a little dry, and not served as hot as I would have liked. My wife got the pork BBQ. It was dry, and lukewarm. So dry that it really did it have much taste. Thank goodness for the sauce. On a positive note their spicy BBQ sauce is very good. Will I come back again ? Maybe. But will not become one of my BBQ go-to joints unless next visit improves. A couple of constructive comments: Add some multiple meat platters where you can choose 2, 3, or even 4 meats. Also a salad option would be nice as most BBQ places offer those. Wifey likes those. I live in Culpeper and have passed by this place for many years but I stopped by for the first time after visiting the shooting range. It was significantly better than I expected. I got the pork and my father got the ribs. Both were fantastic but the ribs were a bit tough at the edges, probably due to the cooking process. The sides were fine. Mac and cheese wasn't anything particularly phenomenal but it was well done and the noodles, well cooked. The chili wasn't really chili but pork leftovers that got thrown into a chili. It was more chili than pork but it was also fine. There was no freshly brewed sweet tea and tbh it's something that I do look for in a BBQ joint. Shame. The pricing was perfectly fine and highly recommend getting the pork platter with spicy (it isn't so spicy) bbq sauce. read more

The food was just mediocre and was cold. Ribs were super dry and the mac and cheese was just kraft.

We got 2 platters that consisted of 2 chicken breasts, and 4 huge ribs AND 2 sides! I will say the meat was a little bit on the dry side but the bbq sauce saved it. Sides were also very good, we got the chili which i think had pork and beans in it and French fries and onion rings that came out very hot. I think it totaled to around 30$ which is a good price for the amount of food. The reason I took off two starts is because of service and cleanliness. For starters the person who served our food clearly did not want to be there which is fine I totally understand. there are good and bad days! Also it's not the cleanest place and the ambiance was a little beat up. But I'm pretty sure it was one of those truck stop restaurants so the expectation isn't supposed to be grand anyway. But still I will say this one kid with blonde hair ran the show. He was so kind, and diligent of what was going on. He provided me with amazing service after the first fellow and reminded me of why I like to be in the countryside. His mannerisms were just that. Decided to try this BBQ place because it is local to where I live, and had never tried it before. We'd even heard some good things. We ordered about $60 worth of food, primarily the pork ribs. And the ribs were absolutely horrendous!! Dry, hard, a bit burnt, they even smelled terrible and had a horrid taste. I will try and give BBQ Country the benefit of the doubt in stating that it is feasible that this was just one single bad experience, and that we got unlucky... and that possibly the ribs aren't always going to be this terrible. But unfortunately this experience was bad enough to warrant our decision to never return. This meal literally cost us $60 in food, and it had to be immediately thrown out because after tasting the ribs, even just the smell was making us all gag. read more

Picked up a pulled pork platter with collard greens and cole slaw on 3/18/19. The collards were flavorless and I'm pretty sure were out of a can. The cole slaw was a bit better, but again not much flavor at all. They give you a GOOD portion of moist pork that did have a very subtle kiss of smoke, but otherwise tastes more like roast pork than BBQ pork. But there's absolutely no seasoning on it, needs something to make it pop because the pork is otherwise cooked good. $9.99 is a fair price for the amount of food I ordered, but the quality of the food just wasn't there. read more

First time visiting BBQ Country. I've driven past it a zillion times over the years! I had some business out in Bealeton, VA - and decided to stop and get some BBQ to take home to watch college football for the rest of the day. I ended up getting a "to go platter"which included a half rack of ribs, half a chicken, and a small container of pulled pork. Plus a quart of Collard Greens. Checking in on the Yelp app - brought up an offer for a free side. The free side is a small sized side - I opted for the Mac and Cheese. You can also get other food here, including breakfast - they do serve breakfast. You can also eat in - lots of tables. There are two TV's in the place. This is where I ding BBQ Country a bit. One TV is a small analog-style CRT TV. The other is a so called HD flat screen mounted on the wall. They both look terrible. Don't come in here expecting to watch some football or something and have it actually look good! The BBQ - the ribs, chicken, and pulled pork - all were very tasty! The Collard Greens were solid. The Mac and Cheese was not cheesy though. I had to add some cheese to them when I got home. More like orange colored Macaroni. Very bland. The guys working here were friendly. When I checked in on Yelp - they told me to "be honest" if you are writing a review of them! So hopefully they'll get rid of the old CRT TV and the crappy HD TV - and replace them with 1080p HD or 4K HD TV sets, and "cheese" up the Mac and Cheese! Really yummy BBQ! This is a pure old school barbecue joint. It's along U.S. Highway 15, just north of the junction of U.S. 17. It's a little dingy restaurant attached to an ancient truck stop. Most of the people in there were truckers, which is always a good sign for food. You can see the pork shoulders smoking behind the counter in the kitchen. I remembered stopping here on the way to Gettysburg 20 years ago and liking it, so did so again on this return trip. Then it was out in the middle of nowhere, but now is on the outskirts of the D.C. suburbs. The food is unchanged and pure country however. One thing is for sure, this will be the best BBQ you've ever had in a place that shares its building with a sorta sketchy looking truck stop. This place doesn't worry at all about "ambiance" so don't expect atmosphere. You're here to stuff your piehole with excellent fresh BBQ at great prices. The beef sandwich was freshly cut brisket (they cut in front of you) on a store bought bun with lots of spicy tomato based sauce. This was some of the best, most tender brisket I've had anyplace. I had a side of beans which were pretty good but nothing special and would've benefited from some extra BBQ sauce. Guys working here are nice and friendly too, I asked them what's the difference between the large and small sandwich and they laughed and said "the large one is bigger" before telling me the big one is a couple extra ounces of meat. This place is nothing fancy and doesn't even have waitstaff, just order at the counter. They could stand to clean the restrooms a bit more but other than that, this place is a hidden gem. Very unassuming, not gentrified or pretentious, just very good BBQ. IF you don't like BBQ, then just keep driving. If you must have atmosphere, keep driving. If you're put off by truckers and working folks, keep driving. But, if you love to sink your teeth into some ribs or pork shoulder, or beef, or juicy chicken, then stop here. Eat this. Post love.
